Pricw - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Price of n5 16 gb is 349$ on playstore and 425$ on online stores!
Wat is the reason for such difference?

Retailers need to make money.

Retail pricing isnt govern by Google... If you dont like reatil pricing, by from Google Play or sign a contract to get discount on the phone.

Google doesn't make any profit from selling the phone. They just want to get their services into as many hands as possible. A retailer, on the other hand, actually wants to make money on the sale of the phone itself. It doesn't make sense that a retailer would buy the phone from Google or LG and then turn around and sell it for the same price. They're in business to make money.

Exactly. Essentially, Google has "cut out the middle man" by providing Nexus 5 for a reasonable price on the Play Store. They're at least covering the costs if not making a small profit on each sale.
Anywhere else you're still dealing with the middle man. The middle man always wants his cut.

A little Craigslist tip, send your seller multiple extremely low offers from separate email accounts, lower his confidence a little before going in for the real but still below value offer.

Lol nice im trying that next time
this Thunderbolt has been Infected with a Virus for all Eternity
I usually sell mine on Ebay and buy them on craigslist or Ebay.
Swappa.com is another. It's where I bought my Thunderbolt.
You can also sell your used/broken phone at Buy Back Pros other than Amazon or eBay. I can say this because I also sold my broken phone at Buy Back Pros where I got a very good price there even all beyond my expectations. They provide me free pickup and also the 30 days money guarantee

[Discussion]Rent a phone.

That would be a great idea right? Rent a phone - just like rent a car. Just launch an online webpage with contact details and rent the latest phones to customers for reasonable prices including insurance and stuff. And when the latest phone comes out just return the previous phone and then rent out the older phone cheaper and the newer phone at a higher price. This way one would not be fixed on one phone and developers especially would have the opportunity to develop for many more phones.
sounds like a good idea but for the price of phones i find it easier to just go buy it or take out a contract plus a contract is like renting a phone till your contract is up apart from they dont take the phone back just want your money lol
Well in the Netherlands its already happening. You can lease your phone for a period off time.
But I think the amount you need pay for leasing is still quite high, so I think you can as well buy it yourself.
Or maybe you can also lease a phone lol

Terrible idea. What happens if you break it etc?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
the amount of time you would have to lend it out, you would barely make profit until phones are paid off. would take a while unless they are paying some crazy monthly rental fee.
In fact if you are developing for sony ericsson xperia devices you can borrow a phone from sony Mobile developer site
At this pont in time , I don't see it .
Before cell phones were so common and the providers charged high roaming fees , rental car company locations offered cell phones for rent . The rental and airtime were pricey but worth it to business people on the move.

My initial reaction too... I'm not sure I'd want to rent a phone with all the strings attached for damages
People on contract are basically Rent-to-Own.

I called VZW to find out if I could rent an Iphone just to see if I'd like it. They said that would be an awesome idea, but no, they have no such service. I ended up just getting the GNex!

Well actually, in the Netherlands, it's possible. Kind of.. however, you're stuck to that one phone when you take it.. It's like leasing a phone.. You pay for it monthly, but with great replacement service etc.
Rent a phone ? O boy . Who the f..k will rent a phone . And why
well for the reason you mentioned for renting, you can just buy and sell it back when you need another device.
Sounds good, but
1) a phone's price is probably not high enough to justify a renting scheme vs data moving inconvenience. How often do you see rented laptops?
2) the current contract system is already entrenched.
I wish I could have rented a phone when I was having a issue with my razr, to see id it was the phone or not. I would have saved me a LOT of time, dealing with verizon on the phone.
I think renting for a day or a week could work, but even that would be hard.
day
older phones are so cheap, I think that would make this a bad call. You can buy older blackberry curves for like 20 bucks on eBay. So if you just need a loaner smartphone, you can always do that. Granted it won't be the latest and greatest, but it will work.
...though it would be funny to get other people's calls on your rental number. haha.
sounds like a good ideaļ¼
better to just buy a new phone, rather then renting as some mobile phones are cheep anyways.

Sorry Microsoft....after the scumy move you pulled, I'll pass on surface and go Asus

US Start Price $499........$519 in Canada????? Why , when both Apple and Google can have standard price.
Then you move our launch to Nov.4/12???? Again why, when Apple and Google can also have standard launch.
So after this...I'll pass and take my money else where.
I could have been a cheer leader for Surface had you not put this bad taste in my mouth !!!!!!!!!

You can blame your government not MS for this! They charged the high tax rates to import and they held the devices at customs. Yes MS should not of been in a situation that customs would hold things up but that's not to say this sort of thing does not happen with Google or Apple. Plus if you arguing about the price then saying Apple is better take a reality check there. I agree to a point about price it is over priced all round but then I think your paying for quality hardware (even though reviews have been down on RT itself).
Also USD and CAD though almost the same are not the same currency.
lol, its a bit ironic that one of your point is the launch date, and right below your post is an ad that says "Get ms surface on 10/26 at Toronto Eaton center"
The 519 is pretty lame though, unfortunately that's Canada for you. I believe when i bought the IPAD 3 when it first came out it as at that price point as well

That's actually a worse price, its not 'closer' at all.
$209 is a 5% increase over $199
$519 is only a 4% increase over $499
It seems closer, sure, but if you look at the absolute price of the items, its actually a lower markup

[Q] question about returning product

question related to note 10.1 but not really related as well.
i'm about to buy note 10.1 in US just because nexus 10 is out of stock in US. For those of you in US (or more importantly in the state of new york), if i buy note 10.1 32 gb (550$ + tax) and i return in the next 30 days, will i get a full refund including the taxes or only the 550$ price tag? I have a tight budget on tablet and I want to decide whether gnote 10.1 or nexus 10. So i decide to buy gnote 10.1, refund it before 30 days, buy nexus 10, decide which 1 i prefer, re-buy gnote 10.1 if i want it back.
I am sorry if this question sounds retarded, i am kinda new in the country (just here as a college student), so i don't know how it works in US. I'm aware that it might be different from each store depend on their return policy but i've been trying to read the return policy and found nothing regarding the tax. So, my question is directed to those experienced in returning items in any specific store (amazon, bestbuy, anything). Thank you.
Best buy refunds include test, as does most retailers. If u purchase online, u might have to pay it own shipping to return.

You'll always get your tax money back. What you want took out for are called "restocking fees," which could be 10% of the purchase price (or more). Purchase through Best Buy to avoid those fees, as they don't charge you for that.

[Q] Purchasing Nexus 5

Hey guys, looking at getting a Nexus 5 and wondering why most of the Ebay prices I've seen are much HIGHER than the Google Play store? Considering Google Play has them in stock.... What's up with these ridiculous prices?

People are stupid?
You don't want to deal with UPS as your order fulfillment provider because they can't seem to manage to not screw up your order and fail to deliver your device in a timely manner?
You pick.

I just assumed that most people would check Google before going straight to Ebay and paying (in some cases) over $100 more. About to order one from Google Play right now..

When the Nexus 5's were first being sold, when it was sold out on the play store, people put them up on Ebay with a ridiculous mark-up.

This phone sells $800+ outside usa like in brazil or other places that cannot buy from playstore. No price is ridiculous as long as there is somebody willing to pay what you ask.
