[Q] Portable battery charging speed - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a TENERGY 10000mAh battery charger with 2 ports. A 2.1A and a 1A.
Any reason why the 1A charges faster than the 2.1A? I have the battery monitor app.
Thanks

Battery Charge Rate

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good app to measure how fast your battery is charging while connected to an outlet.
I just got a Duracell usb car charger that says it outputs 2.1 amps, but when I check in settings>about phone>status while charging my phone it says it's charging as USB (slow) rather than AC (fast), so need an app that can show me the rate at which my phone is charging.
Any suggestions?

I don't really know of an app.. But I do believe its the phone that regulates the amount of current to the battery not the charger.

Yeah I know that the phone will only take in what it can, so I wasn't expecting it to charge at the full 2.1 amps or anything but it's bugging me that it says it's only charging as USB.
I just want to make sure it's not charging slower than my other charger (1 amp) that DOES charge as 'AC'.

Gotcha, I use a compact power inverter in my vehicle it has a USB port and a 110 socket. Says AC if charging in either port..

Do I need a special charger?

I just purchased a hyperion extended battery for my gs3,do I need a special charger, or will my wall charger be ok??

Any micro usb charger is fine including the wall charger that came with the phone.

but all cables are not equal. I lose 1% every ten minutes at dimmest brightness using google maps through gps and playing music while in my car charger.
This is with a generic usb to micro cable from the dollar store. OEM htc/smasung cables yield positive charge in the same ten minute span with the same charger and apps running.
This is with an extended battery using a usb to micro car charger that u lose 1% every ten min?

Your stock charger will be fine. If you are using any other charger or car charger make sure it is rated at 1A. Otherwise you will see very slow charging and/or the inability for your phone to keep up with discharge while using apps that discharge the battery quickly. (ie maps or navigation)
regular charger should be fine

I meant volt. Sorry

If the amperage is more it won't make a difference, all usb chargers should be 5v. If the amperage is less than that of the HTC charger it may not charge or register a charge but actually discharge (fatal to a lipoly battery if it drops too low). The amperage is the maximum load the device can safely output the 5v. If the charger was rated at only 0.5amp then the voltage would drop (it might only output 2v or spike randomly) if the phone tried to draw more, if the charger used shoddy conponants then it may overheat and set on fire.
A higher amp rating is fine, infact you may get a cleaner output. For example your wall outlet might be rated at 13amp but you can plug in a 1amp shaver or a 13amp kettle - it makes no difference.

New charger

Hi guys.
My charger which came with the phone doesn't really work now so I want to buy a new charger. I just wanted to ask if can buy Samsung EP-TA12E black charger which has 2A output, because the original charger has only 1A output. So will my phone just charge faster or it can damage my battery?
Thanks for your reply.

No, it won't damage the battery. It will charge faster than before (when using a damaged charger) but only to the maximum current (i.e. charging speed) the system allows.
You just can't buy a charger with less than 1A because it won't be able to feed the battery and therefore can get too hot and even melt or fire up.
Okey, thanks a lot for your help
