Do I need a special charger? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just purchased a hyperion extended battery for my gs3,do I need a special charger, or will my wall charger be ok??

Any micro usb charger is fine including the wall charger that came with the phone.

but all cables are not equal. I lose 1% every ten minutes at dimmest brightness using google maps through gps and playing music while in my car charger.
This is with a generic usb to micro cable from the dollar store. OEM htc/smasung cables yield positive charge in the same ten minute span with the same charger and apps running.

This is with an extended battery using a usb to micro car charger that u lose 1% every ten min?

Your stock charger will be fine. If you are using any other charger or car charger make sure it is rated at 1A. Otherwise you will see very slow charging and/or the inability for your phone to keep up with discharge while using apps that discharge the battery quickly. (ie maps or navigation)

regular charger should be fine

Battery Charge Rate

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good app to measure how fast your battery is charging while connected to an outlet.
I just got a Duracell usb car charger that says it outputs 2.1 amps, but when I check in settings>about phone>status while charging my phone it says it's charging as USB (slow) rather than AC (fast), so need an app that can show me the rate at which my phone is charging.
Any suggestions?

I don't really know of an app.. But I do believe its the phone that regulates the amount of current to the battery not the charger.

Yeah I know that the phone will only take in what it can, so I wasn't expecting it to charge at the full 2.1 amps or anything but it's bugging me that it says it's only charging as USB.
I just want to make sure it's not charging slower than my other charger (1 amp) that DOES charge as 'AC'.

Gotcha, I use a compact power inverter in my vehicle it has a USB port and a 110 socket. Says AC if charging in either port..

Charging while using gps :(

Before I got this charge I ran nothing but HTC phones on tmobile. while being plugged into car charger and using gps the battery level goes down fast. It doesn't maintain the charge or add to it while navigating. Is this a samsung thing? Any remedies?

That cannot be right. Make sure your car charger, when it charges your phone, is pulling AC instead of USB.
GPS uses very little juice. Just get the 950ma Motorola charger from Amazon for 5 bucks. Something is messed up if your phone doesn't charge

I think you both are onto something. I'm gonna pick up new car charger, than see what happens..

Mine doesn't discharge, but it doesn't charge hardly at all. I'm using the Verizon dual port charger (the one that has a USB port on it as well as the standard charging end)

I use a Monoprice 2A USB charger with an OEM USB cable. Charges extremely slowly or just stays level, but never drains.

With GPS on, you barely Charge with that charger? I know its limited by the kernel at 800mA or so, but damn, that should charge you up fine.
I rock GPS in the car all the time and I still Charge pretty quickly...

All depends on what you're running at that time-4G, cell and GPS reception, etc.

Make sure you are using a high amp charger. I like the one from Motorola.
Even so, with 4g and the screen on - the phone charges slowly. Turn the screen off and it charges much quicker.

You're completely fine. I think the battery might get hot, so keep the phone in a somewhat cool environment.

as long as it is 5VOLTS it should be no problem, but that doesn't mean that your phone charges faster

I do use a 2A charger in my car because the 1A was overheating. I do always use the GPS in my car + mobile network and BT are always on.
The 2A charger can charge my phone (now) whilst I`m using the phone in the car.
The battery draws only the power it needs from the charger not the other way round so you can use a 10Amp charger if you want to without doing any harm to the battery.
It might actually charge slower as the phone could pick it up as a generic usb which will only draw half an amp so as not to over-draw a usb port. I believe to get full 1 amp charging the data pins in either the cable or charger have to be shorted (connected.)

charging galaxy s4 i9500 with 2.1A and not 2(stock)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-1A-Dual-U...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item565a917530
hello
My stock charger is us for galaxy s4 (samsung regular charger)
and then I found this (link above) with 2.1A
is it matter charging via 2.1A and not 2A? what is the different? it will charge faster/slower?
thanks
In Stock kernel there is current limit 1.9A. So everything above it, will be the same as 1.9A.
In reality, you will find that even 2.1A charger doesn't supply even 1.9A. Chinese charges definitely don't supply current thay claim. And beware of them - you may fry your device by such cheap charger.
Also, it heavily depends on USB cable as well. It has to be very short and very thick.
I have a Mediabridge car adapter that has a 2.1 amp charger on it. When I charge my S4 with it it barely charges faster than the 1 amp charger does. I think it charges at either 1.3 or 1.7 amps, sorry can't remember exactly.

How do you measure the exact amperage that it charges at?

I don't have the equipment to measure it exactly. So what I did was charge my phone from 50% for 40 minutes on my stock Samsung wall charger and then recorder the percentage it increased. I then took that number and assumed it was charging at 2 amps and used it as a baseline. Then I did the same test with my car adapter and recorded the results. The I figured out the percentage difference and came up with me estimates. I just don't have the data in front of me anymore but I remembered it being somewhere between 1.3 or 1.7.

The stock charger is fast at charging this phone. On my s3 it took forever . I would stick with stock

Chargers, power supplies, etc, don't "decide" the amps that go to a device - the device "draws" a certain amount. Just because a lamp is plugged into a 20amp circuit in your home doesn't mean 20 amps are going to be shoved through the bulb.
So if, as sorg says, the phone is only going to "ask" for 1.9a, you could plug it into a 5 amp charger and it would make no difference.

You already got your answer above.
No, your phone will NEVER charge faster than 1900 until a developer comes along and figures out how to hack the system to allow this. And it would be a potentiallly STUPID idea to charge faster than Samsung has deemed safe.
Go here to find out how to test your charging rate:

ZeroLemon 7500 deplete during charge ?

I am currently using now the ZeroLemon 7500mah. I have the Samsung USB component plugged into the wall, then a USB extension cord, then the actual Samsung cord. When I have the phone on and plugged in, in the stock battery the phone still charges when I use the phone while plugged in. I noticed the ZeroLemon 7500mah battery actually depleting while plugged in while being used.
Does this happen to anyone else ? Just making sure it is not a battery issue.
It charges when I leave it alone, but when I am playing with it plugged in it is using power.
Never happened on mine.
Just charging slower when being used.

Likewise. Never depletes just slower to charge when being used. And I'm talking watching films which have a lot of drain. Sounds like either a battery or charger issue. If you have another charger give it a try and if the issue continues I'd get them to send you a new battery.
