Text messages delayed over WiFi? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if anyone else has this same issue.. I'm running rastakat 4.4.2, and Franco 23 along with the latest radio and bootloader. When I'm at home on my WiFi, I'm receiving texts very late. If I switch off my WiFi, sometimes I'll get 3 or 4 texts at once, like they were waiting for my WiFi to be off... Anyone else had this experience? Any fix? Thanks for any help...

Yes, this is a pretty well known 4.4+ bug. When connected to Wifi and LTE, incoming calls and texts are not coming through. Google is aware of the issue and is working on a solution.
I haven't determined if this happens all the time or if something triggers this bug, but I'm seeing it pretty much daily. You can search XDA for this issue and it's all over the place.
The way I got around it was to have Tasker turn off my data when I'm connected to my home or work wi-fi. When I leave home or work, Tasker then turns my data back on. This guarantees my calls and texts come through when they're supposed to. Since doing this, I haven't seen the issue again.

Thanks for the info... Your response helped me avoid flashing my ass off trying to figure it out.. I'll have to wait for Google, I just bought tasker and I'm lost.. Thanks again!

I should add to this that if you do it the way I described above, you won't receive MMS since they rely on data. Regular text messages will still come through though.
I just realized this. I'm going to try and find a way to turn off LTE while switching the phone into 3G, since the problem lies in the LTE antenna. There's a way to do this in Tasker but I think you need to be on a custom ROM.

phone doesn't respond when moving out of wifi range

Hi Everyone,
Really frustrated with one problem I'm having. This seems to happen with every ROM (I'm currently use leedroid). Basically, I have wifi at home. When I leave the house, I'm out of wifi range. Then the phone doesn't respond, I don't get calls, etc. This could be for 5 minutes or 50 minutes. I have to wait until until the phone connects to 3G before it becomes responsive. I can't receive any calls or sms during this time. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks!!!

Sorry, never heard of that happening. If it happens with every rom and you have tried different radios... I would try un-rooting and going back to stock. If that fixes it, re run that hack it to get back to root. If not... I would definitely look to getting a replacement asap!

Not receiving texts issue

Hi everyone,
I'm having some issues with my one x. Sometimes (happens a few times a day) I won't receive text/mms unless I send a text out first. Then all of a sudden a wave of incoming texts would come in once I send the text out. I get all 5 bars and it still happens. 'm stock and using Hand cent.
How do you resolve this issue?
Having a similar issue.. mines with sending and receiveing. Even with full tower sometimes they dont send without airplane mode being turned on and off.
What rom are you on, if any? I'm having the same issue from time to time and it is really irritating getting delayed texts. I don't know if it is a rom issue but I am on Viper 1.2.3.

I'm on stock 2.20. Yeah, it's actually pretty weird. I won't receive any texts till I send a text out. Then a wave of incoming
Texts come in after 30 seconds of me sending out a text.
If you haven't done anything to the phone - I'd be contacting the provider... Might be network issues...
See if you have the same issues with your sim in another phone...

I used to have this issue when I was using stock and I would walk into or out of a Wifi area. Texting would just not work for 10 minutes or so. Haven't had the problem since ROMing
Does anyone know how to get to the screen where you can turn LTE on and off? (you had to input some numbers and dial it)
I remember trying to mess around with that and the setting was probably wrong. What is the correct setting?
That sucks dude - do you have the same problem in another phone though? If you do it's going to be a network issue - so you'd need to contact AT&T.

Still wifi issues

I've had wifi issues since I purchased my htc one x for AT&T in may. I have had the hone replaced and the issue was never resolved and I'm kid of fed up with it for the fact that everyone I know who has an android device other then a one x don't have these issues. Issue seems to be Interment but happens a lot actually all the time.
Basically my issue is I have wifi turned on sometimes I lose connection.i notice this due to delayed alerts at times and when I'm using the phone such as on the play store, Facebook or any app that uses the I telnet every once in a while ill get a connection loss message and have to wait for the Internet to come back, usually comes back quick but still very annoying. Another ways can tel is when the phone is in sleep mode is when it happens the most. For example ill unlock the screen at times then all of a sudden I receive all my alerts such as gmail, google talk and any other alert that never came through b c of loss of connection. I also notice a lot when I open google talk right after I unlock my screen that it says I'm offline, then after a few I see it come online and if I had any google talk messages they then come through. I also see the time stamps when this happens, like emails come in and google talk messages and they can be anywhere from like 2-15 mins delayed at times.
I have also performed various of tests when the phone is asleep and I s end myself an email or google talk message and it does not come in until I unlock the phone. FYI this is Interment does not happen all the time but happens very often.
Are you guys still having issues with wifi ? Will getting a replacement possibly resolve the issue or sis this a known issue that cannot be fixed? I love the phone but sick and tire of not receiving all my alerts in real time. This is the first android phone with this type of issue and so frustrated.
Have you checked your wifi settings to make sure it's staying connected while the phone is asleep?

Yes of course checked all bases including forums for the last couple of months. Please note as per my op even when I'm using the phone sometimes I get lost connection errors even while using the Facebook app etc like google play store and other apps. So although while asleep seems to happen the most it also happens during normal use.
This is a known issue with many HTC phones. Even if you have WiFi to never sleep, when your display turns off the WiFi goes into some sort of battery saver mode. It doesn't turn off completely so you get your alerts eventually. I have not found a working solution short of flashing a custom Rom. HTC knows about this but hasn't fixed it. They think it is working as it should...

Thanks for clarifying this for me. If you flash a rom like for example cm10 or other rooms it can resolve this issue? Funny bc if wifi is shut off on just data works good, but the whole point is to use wifi as much as possible since I only have 3gb limited. I was thinking of upgrading to a one x+ but I'm afraid it will have the same issue as the normal, one x. This makes me want to go with a different company such as Samsung etc.. Anyways thanks for your help.

[Q] Strange signal problem

When I first got my Nexus 5 I thought Hangouts was a bit buggy. When sending texts (SMS) it would sometimes try and try to send texts to no avail and other times work fine. Signal in the notification bar was fine so I assumed there was something wrong with Hangouts.
Since then (after rooting the phone with CF auto root - don't think this has anything to to with the problem) I have noticed that at the times my phone won't send texts, in the setting pull down section it shows no signal whilst still showing signal in the notification bar. I have also noticed that mobile standby uses a large proportion of my battery.
I will upload screen shots from my phone soon.
The only thing I could think of that might be causing it is that the SIM card I'm using has been cut down from normal size to micro size.
I just wondered if anyone know's what's wrong or could suggest any fixes?
Thanks
Also forgot to mention turning Aeroplane Mode on and off seems to fix the problem temporarily which is why I don't think there's a problem with the SIM card.

I observed something similar since unlocking and rooting with wugfresh toolkit yesterday. The mobile signal just drops completely for 10s, then comes back. Mostly happens a few minutes after boot. No idea what is going on there.

When I'm at home mines doing it constantly too, and I haven't rooted yet . There's not brilliant signal here, but forcing onto 2g mode worked absolutely fine on my nexus 4.I'm considering returning it, it must be something wrong with the phone, unless the firmware is dodgy?
Just got the phone yesterday, and I have been experiencing the same problem while I was at work. I would turn the phone off and on again and the problem would be fixed, but then later would just stop working.
When I got home from work, (and ever since then) it has been fine. I am a little concerned.
I to sometimes have this issue, and receiving texts late also. The weird thing is signal bars are still full...
Are all of you using battery guru like the op?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Nope
I have this same issue, it's really weird.
I was on a call and the call was fine. As soon as I hung up I looked at my phone and it said I had no signal, but my signal bar on the notification bar showed a fine signal. Very weird to see a good signal in the notification bar, but no signal in the toggle section.
I can get a signal back by either going into airplane mode, toggling back and forth between LTE and 3G or restarting the phone.
There's a thread on the Google forums here: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/T5ey4dttBOA
Although the last Google reply was referring to APN settings, however this seems to have been refuted by the users.
It would be nice to get this narrowed down between hardware and software. If it's hardware we'd obviously want to exchange.
This is a huge issue too since you can just be sitting around not knowing you have no signal.

Sorry for not updating - started using the Google forum alamarco linked and totally forgot about this post. Have just come across it again.
Just in case anyone looks here for a solution to this problem in the future, getting a new SIM fixed it for me too.

Text Message Issues

First things first: I'm new to Android & this phone (came over from iPhone about 2 weeks ago). So I apologize in advance if this is some old issue that's been talked over endlessly - I'm new to this Android stuff.
That said, I'm having tons of issues with my text messaging. First, I downloaded and tried the "SMS Messaging (AOSP)" app and it was giving me problems of not getting messages from people. This was android & ios users alike. So then I switched to Google's "Messenger" app and it seemed to work a lot better - I was getting picture messages, iMessages, everything in order and speedy. I have yet to do my texting thru Hangouts because I'd prefer not to, but if it'll solve my problem I guess I will.
Right now it's at the point where everything is out of whack, and sometimes just not sending/receiving at all. I think WiFi has something to do with it because if I'm sitting at home connected to the WiFi, it's almost non-functional, but if I switch the WiFi off, it seems to work a little bit better. Also, at this point it seems like texting from Android to Android is fine, but sending/receiving from someone on an iPhone is huge problems.
Is there a setting I need to change? A different app? Is this just something I have to live with til Android M? Help!
Thanks!
Did you get the phone brand new? I can't say this is an issue I've seen mentioned really before

No. I got it certified pre-owned thru TMobile about 2 weeks ago. It works perfectly in every other way and when I unboxed it and unwrapped the cling wrap it looked like a brand new phone.
I really think it has something to do with WiFi because when I'm out all day and only connected thru LTE, I send and receive messages completely normally from iOS and Android devices. Never heard a complaint or "hey are you getting my messages" when I'm on LTE.
WTF.

Texts and MMS use your data plan, not WiFi.. How is your signal where you are having issues? Hangouts will send MMS via WiFi if going to someone else on hangouts.

Signal is just fine when these texts are giving me issues. I'm usually within 10 feet of the router and full signal. If I walk or drive a block away, I'll get texts immediately that I know were sent earlier. Same goes if I turn off WiFi on my phone.
This makes absolutely no sense.
