Hi,
I have a strange but a small problem with my phone.
Its with the proximity sensor and screen freeze.
The problem is that when i make a call, put the phone near my ear the screen goes off (Which is normal). But when i hang up the call, screen never comes back to life. Its total black... and when i tried calling to the phone....... it WORKS.....but then again the screen is total black. it doesn't comes back to life.....
I tried pressing the home button....No Luck.
Tried pressing the power button....No Luck.
All that i could notice is a red light in the proximity sensor. That's it.
I am on a stock ROM 2.3.5, Indian Firmware. No Root, No Custom ROM.
I started facing this issue after i gt this phone from SSC for motherboard replacement. Before it, i had used it for a month, it worked far well.
Moreover this issue occurs on a very random basis, like 4-5days once.
All i could do is plug the battery out and plug in.
The below posted link also the same problem, but with no solution
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195858
Try doing a factory reset.
If that doesn't work, reflash your firmware.

But could anything be estimated ?? i.e. a h/w or a s/w problem ??
And that is why i dont like factory reset, I will again have to install all my apps and other stuff all over again...!!!
this happens to me too.....
but sometimes on titanium rom..

To get rid of this use titanium backup application (free version also available)

I used to have that problem in the stock Indian rom too.. But it went away since I upgraded to stock 2.3.6 xwla4 austria rom. I've rooted and flashed titanium and still no problem, so I think it's a rom fault.

Ok people...
But when i had bought this fone, i used it for a month, i never witnessed such prob.
Its nly after the motherboard replacement.
So it makes me think, whether other parts of fone are manipulated or watever....
If its a software glitch, not a issue. it shldnt b a hardware issue.....!!!

Doesn't seem like a hardware issue. Hardware problems are generally more consistent.

I too have started facing this problem started since a month back but appears randomly. It might have happened around three to four times by now. I am on stock rom 2.3.5 too.
Even i had the same problem. But never appeared again after a factory reset. Maybe ICS update can fix every bugs.
I have exactly the same issue, moving to xwla4(Titanium) didn't solve it but haven't experienced any freezes since I moved to zcla1(glx-r rom). Its still early stages though, I switched just 8-9 days back, keeping my fingers crossed
However, I would like to share my findings
1. The phone restarts on looooong press power button(10 sec appx), so no need to take out the battery (At least it worked for me)
2. Its not just Galaxy-R, the problem occurs with many phones, especially on Custome kernels/Roms. It can most likely be configured by Proximity sensor calibration in the kernel. See this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951858
But the application posted here doesnt work on our kernel right now, not for me atleast. Maybe ardatdat can help us out with kernel changes for proximity sensor recalibration in his next release.
Hello guys...strange things are going on in my phone from last 2 months..at first it used to react as if the back softkey is prseed..it used to bring me back to home screen through all screens i passed to open a app (like setting->wireless and..->internet seting..->apn..)and reversly it sent me back to home without letting me to change any data.....then it used to act as if the option/search soft key is pressed..like if the home screen is not altered for 5 sec..the google search option opens...many times pressing home key took a screen shot...and my touch screen started to be unresponsive...firstly i could use my for but sometimes the screen remained unresponsive which could be fixed by pressing power button and locking the screen agin..then it used to response...now a days the phone hardly responces 2-5 times a day and accepts only one selection(like i may open app drawer but cant se;ect any app its frozen or open the phone app but no number could be pressed..its frozen)
i have flashed almost every rom but none fix the problem...recovery mode key test does not detect my 2 soft keys..
...samsung care is verry laggy here ..and irresponsible..last time they took my samsung j 150 and returned it after 3 months with a new defect of speaker blown and a huge billl..
plz help me... thank you
On my device, if I put the phone in my pocket with the screen facing my thigh, i tend to sweat a bit in long pants and thus the phone gets some sweat on the screen. After wiping it off, the phone would not be very responsive. I would pull everything out and leave for a while, I assume water had gone in, then it worked. So is something similar happening?

First of all..THANKS for your reply..yes..u r very right..even in early days(near abt 3 months..when problem started) the phone used to be more unresponsive after taking it out of my pocket..but pulling off didnt fix anything..a funny fact (may be logical due to drynesss) is keeping the phone in a.c room makes it work for a while(not the soft keys..every thing else)..so your guess is right..but pulling out all didnt help me..

Then your problem may not be the same. Maybe a hairdryer will do. If it still doesn't work then maybe it's your touch panel. My phone works perfectly at home

I think you should clean up your phone and then cover the gaps between the glass and the chrome colored plastic design.
Try it?

bye thhe way my phone is a white GTI5801(indian version of I5800)..
This can happen also due to bad flash or kernel malfunction...due to wifi panic
Try flashing zero fill tar and flash fresh rom.

Deep sleep kernel panic makes the phone unresponsive when exposed to some heat and moisture... generally a clean flash would solve the problem...
zero fill is a tar file that helps clean the system by removing all the previous system data..just flash any rom after flashing zero fill.tar normally.
also you have to take care that screen stays out of sweat(moisture)

sorry, tried your advice...but no luck...thanx anyway....(i dunno why the touch buttons not working???i am sure they are the culprits..)
Unconventional, but if you wanna check the softkeys you could open up the phone (it's really easy if you use a guitar pick) and disconnect the buttons. Phone should still boot. If the behaviour is better, you could swap the softkeys for a replacement and problem solved. I take no responsibility for this. I myself have changed some electrical parts including the display, but I cannot say for sure that the phone boots without the softkeys connected without taking permanent damage. But you sound like it can only get better^^

Hi everyone, my desire s is acting strange since few days back.. it keeps on restarting for no reason. At first I thought its due to kernel updates to modified kernel 3. But then I installed reaper gingerbread. It restarted when I opened camera.
Then I installed Nik's project x . Still same problem sometimes when I open camera or other heavy application.
It restarts continuously 5-6 times without completely booting and battery drains to 10-15% from 80-90% within 5 minutes..
I've not got this problem when in charging mode..
I'm now using ice_ds 4.3
If anyone have same problem before , is there a solution to this?
Thanks in advance..

I get this too on all custom ROMS.. sometimes if I knock the phone a certain way it resets.. so it must be hardware related.
Can you let me know what your 'SOLUTION' is? All I see if the cause. Thx

my solution: buy new battery
Put a bit of paper between the battery and the holder clip, that fixed it for me to keep the battery in place.
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone of you have ever tried lagfix(fstrim) on our core, it promises great speed improvement, but have the risk of hard bricking your phone, there was also this app from chainfire to detect if your phone has the possibility to be bricked but since our core is still somewhat new in the market, it wasn't able to detect if our phone is compatible or not. So if anyone has ever tried it. Please do tell and give me some info if it really improves our phone, thanks!
Never tried it sorry.

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum thread, but recently having lots of problem with my N5.
i have a 32GB N5, when I use LTE & Location on the road, it heats up, the screen starts flickering and eventually, gets to a point when I don't see anything, I have to wait for it to cool down, turn off from recovery by guessing and after 15-20-30 mins, it will be back to Normal. Is this an issue with N5 or is it just with mine.
I bought it from Craigslist, so I do not have any warranty info. not sure if I can get it replaced.
I have used many many different ROMs on my N5, it was unlocked & I rooted it. Currently I am running stock rooted with Faux kernel with Gravitybox for customizations.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,
Dhaval.
From the way it is described it is way more than just software especially with screen flickering clearly this isn't an issue with every nexus 5 or Google would have addressed it immediately.. I would restore back to complete stock and see if it still does it. Too bad you bought it from some guy off craigslist, he probably knew about the problem and just didn't RMA it.
There is a Q&A forum.
Do you get some weird colored lines sort of like TV static also? Randomly, my phone does this every so often and I'm somewhat worried about it.
It only occurs in apps, on the home screen it doesn't occur.

A stock Nexus 5 should be pretty well protected from over heating. I would recommending restoring the factory firmware to see if it fixes the problem. If it is still over heating then it probably needs a visit to service.

OP
if i were you, i would download the Google N5 Image from their servers and wipe your device clean
before knowing is for sure its hardware related, i would rule out all signs of software issues first
