Hi all, I want to buy n5 in south korea next week. I want to take it home in Indonesia unlocked, and I read in some websites that said that most of the phones there are contracted in 1-2 years.
so what I want to ask is: do they have place to buy phone freely(without contract) and unlocked(which means I can use it in Indonesia :laugh ?
thanks!
Nexus phones are always unlocked. And you can use Google play to buy the phone "freely".

I would try Craigslist for the area you are going or try a local dealer, or electronics store. And for those bands I'm pretty sure you'd need an AT&T phone

Head into Town
If you are going to be in Miami for just a few days, then I would simply head out into town and within 5 minutes I'm sure you will come across at least an AT&T or Verizon store, if not both. Just going into one of the stores (your favorite carrier or the one with the best plan and price combo) and trying out the android phones in person really helps you to decide on the right smartphone phone - which is a decent sized investment.

No, its more just like local people trying to sell things. You can get some really good prices on there. A lot better than buying brand new from att

Honestly if you want a good unlocked phone, just order it from the company directly. You get quicker updates and no bloatware anyway.

LOL. Don't come to the US to buy unlocked phones. We do not sell them unlocked, they're almost ALL carrier locked.
The only phones you would be able to use with proper frequencies is AT&T models.
Just buy from an importer man. Not sure where you're from, but surely there are easy ways to buy phones and ship them to your place. The US is a terrible place to buy a phone that you don't intend to use on that carrier's network.
nevermind,i bought an unlocked i9100 at the dolphin mall

Hey. I have a Nexus 5 32GB that was bought in the US. I'm using it at Lithuania and it works very great. We don't use 4G on mobile phones yet, but 3G works perfect.

Assuming that you bought a D821, which is the international version, it should work anywhere.

to mention also that in some eu countries the lte signal covers only the central geografic areas as capitals and big cities
I am eligible to upgrade my S3 to a Nexus 5 for $65.00 through Rogers.
Do the carrier versions vary from the Google Play ones at all? Is there Rogers bloatware on the device? Can I flash any ROM and perform anything on the device the exact same as if it were purchased from the Google Play store?
Secondly, I know that this may vary from carrier to carrier, but if I upgrade the device, will my contract start over again? I really don't want to deal with Rogers anymore.
Thanks!

The Nexus 5 is unlocked and free of bloatware no matter what carrier it's on and of course if Roger is willing to give you the N5 for $65.00 that means that they want you to sign some sort of contract for a year or 2.
Remember this phone is $350 (16gb) and $400 (32gb) so obviously you will have to sign a contract.

I tried searching things like 'nexus 5 carrier vs google play', 'nexus 5 att vs google play', 'nexus 5 carrier version', as well as search the first three pages of the forum, and could not find a thread that related to mine.
Thanks for the useful reply though. Especially your link to the others threads for future reference. I really appreciate it.
Hello, I am going to buy this Nexus 5 in U.S. (NY) next week.
What should I know befor buying it? I am not from U.S. (from Israel).
What should I check or ensure?
I am going to buy it from T-MOBILT by the way.
Thank' guys!
You should know that you'll be buying the wrong version for use in Israel. There's two versions of the Nexus, one for North America (D820) and one for the rest of the world (D821), the difference being the radio bands that are supported, specifically the LTE bands. So while a North American model will work oversees for voice and 3G data, it won't for work 4G, as it doesn't support the proper bands.
Everything he said^^^^^^^. Also you should check out a few review videos on YouTube to get an idea of what the Nexus 5 has to offer.

why would i, as an american, need to generally buy a phone that is meant for European countries?
the US uses different LTE bands than the European countries, so thats why the hardware (note: radio only bands only) is different.

http://www.myworldphone.com/ sells the international Nexus 5 D821. Their store is located in New York City (in Queens close to JFK Airport). You can do online chat with them to confirm before you depart home.
Ex Samsung Note buyer here.
It was a toss up between the Moto X Pure Style and the Sony Xperia Z5 premium and went for the Moto on price.
I'm assuming it's not region locked like Samsung phones as I'm in the UK and need it to work out of the box. Network bands seem to be OK.
I've ordered from the states and I like that the US version has CDMA also if I need that on my travels.
So bye bye Samsung and HELLO MOTO!
I agree with you. I got a note 5 about 2 weeks ago and after experiencing touchwiz lag I just can't take it. It has the best hardware but touchwiz just ruins it. So I ended up preordering the the moto x pure for a more vanilla android experience.
I also like the subtle moto features like moto voice. I used google voice and siri often, so having an always listening feature is killer.

I always go completely unlocked.
Currently have 3 different PAYG sims from 3 networks plus some American sims though they differ from UK ones which never run out until you spend all the credit.
Maybe T-Mobile will finally break open the American market and go with the unspent credit model? LOL
Was asking just so you double checked the bands to the UK networks. I know the US version wont work with Three.
