Wcdma question - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use signal check pro. Since getting my n5 I have normally seen umts when the 3g icon is showing. All of the sudden today I am seeing wcdma when the 3g icon appears. I have never seen the wcdma before today. Now I'm seeing that in places around town that would always be umts. Can anyone explain why this would happen? It doesn't seem to be affecting my data though. Thanks

Radio band

If I am in an dchspa+ 42 area what would be the best setting to use in the hidden menu setting such as wcdma, LTE gsm, wcdma preferred, etc... These are just some of the stings inside the radio shortcuts hidden menu. I only get 3-5 Mbps and I feel like being on the 42 hspa+ that I should get better speeds. My town is small also. Population 15 k.
Here's the hidden menu.

You shouldn't need to touch this. That's why its hidden Speed can be down to distance from the mast.
I don't know if CDMA means CDMA or WCDMA.
Depending which it is, either LTE/GSM or LTE/GSM/CDMA
Really its this screen you should be using

Agree with rootsu. In addition you should set it to 3g in that screen rootsu posted. It'll take care of itself

If you aren't using lte then it would be wcdma preferred, which is the same as selecting 3g in the other menu mentioned.
I use this screen to force test areas with weak lte (lte only mode). Stuff like that.

When I change it to 3g in the hidden menu it changes to gsm auto prl not wcdma preferred. So what should I do? Should I manually set it to wcdma preferred or when I set it to 3g and it changes in the hidden menu to gsm auto prl just leave it? Thanks

That isn't a hidden menu its just an app called phone info it does the same as going to mobile networks and selecting 3g. You really don't need an app to enable this super leet hacks speeda

New Nexus 5 - network problem (a complicated one)

Hi
need your help, I have tried everything..
I can not connect to 3G
I tried to flash image factory/set correct APN setting with the operator/switch radios/replacing new SIM.
didn't helped my!
When I connect to 2G everything works for me, calls and online.
When I switch to 3G, I have no service, it writes me Unavailable operator.
It get stuck on the "Search" when I try to search manually.
When I try to go back to 2G, it is still stuck on "searching.." and I have no reception! Only reboot fixes it and I can go back to work with 2G.
It is important to note that when I take out the SIM I can find operator on 3G.
How can I fix the problem or even understand what it comes from?
I have Nexus tool kit, maybe I can sent you Catlog \ bugreprot?!
Thank You in Advance
What about, when you are in LTE ? Will you get 3G ? You should get either 3G or Edge (came to know that your country don't have LTE yet).

I don't have LTE in my country yet, and my operator only have 2G (no EDGE)
If you choose LTE on your phone, it supports all lower versions (i.e 3G / Edge) ! So you must get Edge (2G) !
LTE option doesn't force only LTE !

I know, if I choose LTE I get the same problem, no service..
Which network do you use?

This. The Nexus 5 very well may not support the 3G frequencies your network uses.

I certainly know that this is not the problem, Nexus 5 is supported in my country
Should not be a problem with the 3G frequencies of both models 820 \ 821.
If that's the case, I'd recommend contacting your carrier.

LTE scan

Can someone tell me how to modify how the nexus 5 scans for lte.? I would like to change how often My phone scans for LTE. I was able to do this on my evo 4g LTE so I figured it would be possible to change on the nexus 5. I'm having problems connecting to a certain LTE tower and I figured I'd give this a short to see if it makes a difference. Thanks to those who might reply

No data during calls?

Searched around on here but saw no results. Just noticed that during calls, data doesn't work. Is there a fix?

Data only is available during calls if you're on LTE and not doing VoLTE. Can you confirm what your connection is like?
I have LTE most everywhere but it does drop to 3G occasionally at my house so that could very well be the reason.

Yeah,,,the M8 is SVLTE, not SVDO (like the old Thunderbolt that could do voice/data on 3G) nor is it VOLTE.
You need to be in an area that your phone is receiving both a 4GLTE and 3G signals as it will use the 3G signal for voice and uses the LTE for data. Our phone never utilizes LTE for voice (I presume it uses 1X when there is no 3G signal available for voice...but that's rare as Verizon's existing 3G footprint is huge).

At your house, though, it should have data access over wifi. Unless, of course, you have wifi turned off.
I believe Wi-Fi was indeed off in this particular case. Thanks for all the help though!

Simple. U see 4g network in nav bar u can talk and surf internet. U don't, u can't UNLESS connected to WiFi. Easy.

T-Mobile LTE band 2?'s

I'm just trying to get a idea of if I'm experiencing a problem or not. Lately I've been in areas in town that I'm only getting edge signal. Is there a way to find out if t mobile is supplying band 2 and 12 LTE in the areas I'm experiencing edge only? The areas are plenty populated.
Is there a coverage map that shows what bands are being used in my area?
