3g fixes for Defy, wcdma 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100Mhz

If you loose your 3g after flashing a rom or sbf, try to flash one of those zip to see if you get your 3g back (based on the wcdma(3g) freq your operator work on).
(Edit: in the previous sentence, "operator" was meant for the "original operator" of your phone. So in other words, select what matches your hardware, not your carrier. If you still have the original box, theres a label with the freqs on it.)

Has anyone been able confirm that all these different variants of the Defy actually do have different hardware radios as well? Or are they all the same hardware with soft-controlled bands?
Example: If someone lives in an area where AT&T's coverage is 1900 MHz only and no 850 MHz, you shouldn't get 3G on a T-Mobile 850/1700/2100 Defy. What if you flash the 850/1900 3G files - do you get 3G now?
Do different country variants have a different FCC ID inside?

ps. are you sure about cn850/2100?
china has cdma800, gsm900 and wcdma2100, so would make more sense to have 2100-only or 900/2100 since wcdma850 would never happen.

Mobile phones can have their 3G antennas optimized for certain frequencies. They can all work on all existing UMTS frequencies but it does suggest that different areas means different radios. Now that still doesn't mean that the radios themselves are different of course but at least it is something to look into.

i can assure you that 3g radio must be different. unless it has a quad/quint-band 3g amplifier, which doesn't exist yet. intalling multiple amps while not using all of them sounds really stupid to me

the baseband chip should be the same just the rf part is different.

I'm not 100% sure. I looked for the information yesterday on Motorola's site, specs for Defy in the respective countries. Today I can't get to the ME525 spec page on Motorola.com(chinese). So I can't confirm.

Awesome! I now have a working Defy in the Movistar Argentina 3g/H network!
Even though out of the box, the unlocked Defy made in argentina did not work with Movistar Argentina, Froyo + this fix did work. Very weird bug.. but very cool fix!
NOW I'm happy about my defy!

U.S. T-mobile on 2.21 Chinese Retail Firmware, confirmed the 3G works with the patch!!!! tks

Hey that sounds great and this was the last thing keeping me from upgrading to Froyo. I'm on Australian Telstra network (850) so are you saying I can use either of the US/CN or that last one...do you know which the Au Telstra network is based on or it doesn't matter?
Will wait to hear and then give it a try and report back...

What are the differences between these two?

Hello I live in New Zealand and we have a network here called Telecom XT which uses 3G freq: 850 & 2100 mhz.
Unfortunately all Motorola Defy sold here have their freq specified as: 3G Network: HSDPA 900 / 2100
Does this mean that I can flash the "freq_F_CN_026-850-2100-signed.zip: 850, 2100MHz (ref)" file from OP to the 900/2100 phone and the phone will operate 3G on the 850/2100 freq?

Aittle off topic here but, the vibrant has AT&T 3g and T-Mobile 3g built in. You just have to activate the AT&T 3g radio through the secret settings.

Mentioned this already in the Adlxmod F4D thread but I needed the 3G fix to enable reception of 2G GSM 900 MHz on my Chinese/Asian made Defy. It only detected 1800 MHz networks. I used the Chinese 850/2100 fix for this. The UK 900/2100 fix had no result which means I will probably never be able to receive UMTS on 900 MHz with this phone. Not such a big deal though because as far as I know that frequency is quite rare if used at all somewhere for 3G connections. 2G works fine now but we better rename this thread to 2G/3G fix. Not sure about other 2G frequencies though. Isn't the Defy a quad band?

Excellent...today just flashed Froyo UK version and this fix worked a treat.

Success with the US 850/1700/2100 for my Australian Telstra (850Mhz) DEFY.

noob question.. how do i install this? all i see is meta-inf and system folder

I recently bought a HTC-Sensation 4G from T-Mobile Store in US.
I also purchased an unlock code in the internet.
Getting to Mexico I started the phone and the voice portion worked great...
BUt Data only hooks up at 2G speed, I have a 3G with unlimited data plan...
I have a friend who has an HTC-INSPIRE and his does hookup at HSPA/HSPA+ (3G).
I was told buy a compnay in Mexico that sell a version of the sensation 3G, which they say does have 850 MHZ radio, that T-Mobile Sensations does not have the 850MHZ Band required...
But in various sights I have seen the spec and it says I qoute "Bands 850, 900, 1800, 1900, 2100, 1700"
I have checd the settings menu etc.. and have not found anywhere to change the setting... can someone help?

Sorry, but the US T-Mobile Sensation does not have the 3G 850 frequency. You can't change it. It does support 2G 850, which may be part of the confusion in the frequency listings you've seen. About your only option is to sell it and get the Mexico compatible model.

Your only way arround it is to sell it and get the sensation from bell canada.

Buyer beware.
Lesson one: Every modern phone out there now has quad-band GSM, and will list "850, 900, 1800, 1900" in its frequency list. You know they're talking about GSM (2G) when you see that string of four numbers, because 1800 is a 2G-only band which has never been used for 3G.
Lesson two: If a phone has 850 MHz 3G, you will see the number 850 repeated twice in its band list.
For example:
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS 850/1900 <--- Yes, buy this phone, because you can see 850 repeated twice.
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS 900/2100 <--- No, do not buy this phone, because 850 is listed only once and it's under GSM.
Lesson three: If the only band info you can find is 850/900/1800/1900, then the seller is a lazy douchebag who can't even bother to give you the 3G information you need to know.

Chinese phones on T-Mobile?

I'm hoping someone can give me a for sure answer on this. I have a company we met at CES offering me some chinese cell phones. Basically they are an S4 knock off. I have definitely decided against selling these, but since I have a really old phone... I'm thinking about buying one for myself to play with.
I am currently on the t-Mobile network. Here is what their website says about "bands"
T-Mobile's UMTS network operates in Band IV, which uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies. Specifically, T-Mobile uses the 1700 MHz frequency to send information to cell sites and then uses the 2100 MHz frequency to receive information. A device must be able to use both frequencies to use T-Mobile's domestic UMTS network.
Most international UMTS networks operate in Band I, which uses the 2100 MHz frequency.

Everything sounds like it should work, but the concern is the 850/2100 on WCDMA. T-Mobile claims it uses 1700/2100.
For comparison, here is the t-Mobile Nexus 4

I do understand that the chinese phone is only 3G, and the Nexus I compare to is 4G.

According to what I just read on another tmousa page (which agrees with your quote) their data (3g, 4g, and lte) all work on 1700/2100 as of this date of posting.
From your quote about your phone, it operates on gsm 1800/1900. That does not match with tmo.
I know you probably already figured this out, but I am searching on same subject, so others will follow.

It looks like US GSM Model (sold on Motorola US site) WILL work with Wind Mobile in Canada!
While AWS transmits on ~1710-1755 MHz and receives on ~2110-2155 MHz, this band is known as 1700 or Band IV or AWS.
2100 refers to Band I (2100 IMT), a totally different band which is used in Asia and Europe, but not in North America.

Wow, the UK version actually supports more band, it should be the global version. There are many countries provide Uim card (CDMA sim card) on their CDMA2000 network.

The Brazilian Dual Chip Version has the same Bands of the UK version.

I was actually wondering the same thing myself. I wanted to buy one here in the UK because it says it supports all the bands (including 1700), but is this in fact true, or is it just the Global version?

Hello everyone, first post here!
I ordered a moto G from the us store since I have a connection in Washington state to ship it to. On their site they list 1700(aws) but not the 2100 needed for downloading.
I phoned motorola this morning and informed them of my uncertainty. The level 2 technician replied that the american phone will fully support 1700/2100 used by aws. I also informed the technician of my carrier, so it looks like the american gsm model will work with wind.

I remember at one point there was discussion of whether AWS was even possible on the S3 i747.
Any input would be appreciated!!

Thanks for sharing your findings.
From what I've researched so far, 1700 MHz AWS band operates on 1700 up and 2100 down.
There's another AWS band as well, 2100MHz AWS band, it operates on 1900 up and 2100 down. It is used overseas, Asia, Europe, etc.
The carriers (cellphone companies and their employees) confuse people when they tell you need 1700/2100 band phone.
In reality you only need to make sure that the phone has 1700 AWS band, that's all.

Glad to help! Is there any way to know the model number and baseband for the US GSM (AWS) version?? If it's the same model then I bet it is just a matter of flashing the relevant modem and nvdata parameters.

I'd have to dig some more to find out if all the models have same radios internally. Supposedly there were 5 models of Moto G approved by the FCC in the US:
XT1032, XT1033, XT1034, XT1035, and XT1036

UK Version
Just wanted to add that the UK version, despite listing the 1700 UMTS on the UK Motorola site, does not list said band on the box. I checked in store today, and it only had UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100. Appears to be the same as the Global version being sold in the US.

So i have been searching and i have found out that the one plus one supports these bands according the their site.
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
will this give me tmobile 4g and lte support
i know tmobile uses 1700 and 2100 for a majority of the network and on gsmarena it says it has it but with the bands off the official site does it support 4g and lte

what did you use as a search its simple say as little as possible first all I put in was oneplus tmobile - oneplus tmobile xda - Google also filled out the rest of it for me since it seems many have searched it
