Moto G Versions, US, Canada, International. - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
Just wondering what Moto G versions will be available, specifically what antennas will each version have?
I'm on Wind Mobile in Canada (AWS Band).
So far I found a few diff. versions of this phone, for US, UK and Canadian markets.
US radio specs:
http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/moto-g/Moto-G/moto-g-pdp-ways-to-buy.html
Networks
Global GSM Model: GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
US GSM Model: GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz)
CDMA Model: CDMA/EVDO Rev A (850, 1900 MHz)
UK Band specs:
http://www.motorola.co.uk/consumers/mobile-phones/moto-g-gb.html
Networks

It looks like Telus is selling Global GSM Model

It looks like US GSM Model (sold on Motorola US site) WILL work with Wind Mobile in Canada!
While AWS transmits on ~1710-1755 MHz and receives on ~2110-2155 MHz, this band is known as 1700 or Band IV or AWS.
2100 refers to Band I (2100 IMT), a totally different band which is used in Asia and Europe, but not in North America.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
The US version supports AWS because that is what T-Mobile uses in the US, and it's the same band that Wind uses.

Any other models that you guys can add here?
Thanks!

Wow, the UK version actually supports more band, it should be the global version. There are many countries provide Uim card (CDMA sim card) on their CDMA2000 network.

The Brazilian Dual Chip Version has the same Bands of the UK version.

I was actually wondering the same thing myself. I wanted to buy one here in the UK because it says it supports all the bands (including 1700), but is this in fact true, or is it just the Global version?

Hi
Are you sure Allewar?
Motorola Brasil and the store they point you to (http://www.lojaoficialmotorola.com.br/product/celulares/116699802/moto-getrade%3B-dual)
doesn't list AWS 1700 band. Unlike the UK version.
See my OP.
Thanks

From what I read in Canada we cannot get the 16gb version, have to find online somewhere.

Hello everyone, first post here!
I ordered a moto G from the us store since I have a connection in Washington state to ship it to. On their site they list 1700(aws) but not the 2100 needed for downloading.
I phoned motorola this morning and informed them of my uncertainty. The level 2 technician replied that the american phone will fully support 1700/2100 used by aws. I also informed the technician of my carrier, so it looks like the american gsm model will work with wind.
cheers :good:

Model: XT1032
Baseband: MSM8626BP_1032.3051.51.00R
I would love to know how to enable 1700/2100 bands on it!!!
Do we know if there are hardware differences? I would like to see if we can get a thread going for enabling AWS support on international GSM version. There is an extensive knowledge-base here on XDA when it comes to tinkering with the Galaxy S2 and S3 modems and NV parameters to enable Wind/TMO AWS. I remember at one point there was discussion of whether AWS was even possible on the S3 i747.
Any input would be appreciated!!

Hi matlabwtf! Welcome to XDA
Thanks for sharing your findings.
From what I've researched so far, 1700 MHz AWS band operates on 1700 up and 2100 down.
There's another AWS band as well, 2100MHz AWS band, it operates on 1900 up and 2100 down. It is used overseas, Asia, Europe, etc.
The carriers (cellphone companies and their employees) confuse people when they tell you need 1700/2100 band phone.
In reality you only need to make sure that the phone has 1700 AWS band, that's all.
Please let us know when your receive your handset, thanks.

Glad to help! Is there any way to know the model number and baseband for the US GSM (AWS) version?? If it's the same model then I bet it is just a matter of flashing the relevant modem and nvdata parameters.

Hey
I'd have to dig some more to find out if all the models have same radios internally. Supposedly there were 5 models of Moto G approved by the FCC in the US:
XT1032, XT1033, XT1034, XT1035, and XT1036

UK Version
Just wanted to add that the UK version, despite listing the 1700 UMTS on the UK Motorola site, does not list said band on the box. I checked in store today, and it only had UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100. Appears to be the same as the Global version being sold in the US.

Hi Irfan
If they have a working demo, would you be able to check the settings and look at the model number and baseband? Only if you get an opportunity that is...

LTE in Kuwait

Folks,
Please take a Min and help a me out. Me and wife are currently stationed and residing in Kuwait. Kuwait launched 4G LTE service late last year. The LTE network runs on 1800MHz band 3. the same Band as Telstra Australia, and O2 Germany. i have tired almost everything to get my LTE working, yet no luck. Now, the service run on the Iphone 5 and my LTE USB dongle with no problems.
List of things i tried.
1- flashed the following firmware
a- JB Telstra Australia
b- JB Orange France- LTE ON
c- JB SFR France- LTE ON
d- JB Retail Brazilian
Currently running JB O2 Germany
2- tired the service menu to switch to LTE and that didn't work.
3- Attempted to change the band but unable to select or change.
4- the SIM card work fine on the Iphone, so no sim issue
5- The service is activated
Sorry i think i posted in the wrong section. please move to the correct area
4G isn't really LTE. Since you said it uses the same band as used the other 2 providers you should be able to access LTE by flashing the correct radios or the whole rom & using an LTE sim
Sent from my XT925
Also O2 Germany has 800/2600 bands. From which carrier did you purchase your phone?

This phone don't have the 1800 MHZ band ... only 700/1700 mhz band There are two different phone ! One for north america ! One for the rest of the world ! This is just not a baseband question or rom problem... i have post it on many topic but many people think this is the same phone the Fido/Rogers support LTE in 700/1700 band .. and support only hspa to 21mbits ( no DC-HSPA up to 42mbits like others country ! )
Sorry ! You never get LTE !

Well. this just sucks big time!!!!! :crying: im glad someone have an answer after all
Just a quick thought. Did you check with your provider for a separate LTE APN?
I would probably be running the Telestra ROM to check this. Make sure your service menu reads "LTE/GSM/WCDMA". You can't select bands, but make sure it is "Automatic (2G/3G/4G)".
Looks like your phone should have the one that looks like "action.wataniya.com" (http://10.wataniya.com/customercare/configure/default_en_gb.aspx). Perhaps, also give them a call to check whether their site is up-to-date and this is the correct APN for their LTE network. Also, check your wife's phone. Is she using the same APN?
Just trying to help you troubleshoot.

Can you provide documentation? Motorola's site seems to suggest there is only one version based on their technical certifications. Which "model" are you using if I may ask. If you're using the "800/1800/2600" version, would you mind giving me the information on the back of your phone so I can dig up some info (FCC ID, Type, and IC ID). This will help look up documents in their technical specifications to confirm two models or more, if they exist.
It seems weird that Motorola would issue a XT926 just for a CDMA and only ONE XT925 number for multiple models (some of which do run CDMA)? It doesn't make sense from a business perspective either. Why produce many different GSM models, when you can produce one and alter the firmware (if for example it doesn't sell in Australia, flash a new ROM, repackage it, and ship it to Canada).
Just my two cents. If you have any of that info, PM me. I'd love to look into it.

Sir- I want to point out that wataniya is not the provider for the LTE in Kuwait. I had I different SIM card when I took the screenshots. In fact it’s a US AT&T sim that roaming on Wataniya Telcom in Kuwait. The LTE provider in question is Zain Kuwait https://www.kw.zain.com/kw/af/home.do?lang=en . plus I have tried the Telestra firmware and used the correct APN for zain; the same APN I used on the iPhone 5 and the USB dongle. To add, I tried using the LTE/GSM/WCDMA, LTE/WCDMA, and LTE alone options and had it at automatic (2G/3G/4G When I set it at only LTE I lose single completely. The other options allow me 3G H+ only.
UserDemos makes a lot of sense! There are only two modles out there. The 926 and 925. I believed that 925 can run on LTE 700 / 800 / 1700 / 1800 / 2600 as advertised by Moto. She I don’t know where the problem is? Anyways the info as showen in the back of the phone are Model XT925 FCCID: IHDT56NG9 TYPE:M0D46 IC ID:109O-T56NG9 . and the BIG CE number is CE0168.
Thanks for not giving up :good:
Yes I confirmed that you bought the wrong phone.
This what happened to me. I'm in Etisalat 4G, so if you want razr hd with enabled 4G lte you should buy it from Australia or UK.
I recommend Clove or Handtec the release date after 2 days.

Were able to figure this mastery out?
In many cases such as Milestone, Milestone 2 etc. there was a Canada / Latin American version and Europe / Asia version with different 3G bands - yet, the phone was called the same for all these versions (MS1 -> A853). Verizon's CDMA Droid (A855) was called differently and other CDMA carriers also had different name (such as MS A854).
This is the same thing, only about 4G bands.
There are 3 version of Razr Hd

XT925 for EUROPE & Australia 4G bands 800/1800/2600 ( and some LATAM country) ( Have Dual Channel HSPA up TO 42 mbits )
Is just not a baseband problem like many people say ... if the hardware don't support ... the hardware don't support ! Yes some phone have hidden band ! but not the case in the moto hd

Again same version as the Canadian and Mexico version ;p
Motorola Argentina :
LTE: 700/1700 GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 WCDMA: 850/900/1900/2100 HSDPA+ HSUPA: 5.76 Mbps EDGE GPRS
....
There are 3 version :
1 for Europe/Some asia-pacific !
1 for Canada and some latam
1 for U.S.A with Cdma and Lte just for U.S
if you want lte just check the band in your country ... and buy the device you want ...
If you want best battery go with the xt926 ... but you never get LTE . only 21mbits HSPA around the world !
if you want DC HSPA because no LTE ... buy the Europe Asia Version ... ( My carrier telus in canada have great DC HSPA coverage and speed are great near 25 mbits in download - i have sold my rogers version for the europeen version ... i never get LTE but my baterry is really good ... and have DC hspa in many many place )
if you want LTE choose the right phone before buying...
and oh yes ... the Motorola phone from U.S ... you can't unlock the bootloader !
and again don't listen people who claim is the same phone and this is just a baseband file problem !
motorola brazil razr hd has 2600mhz band.
I have one and all carriers here use this band...

[Q] Canadian Moto G (Telus) - Is it carrier locked?

I'm dying to know, is the Telus version carrier locked? I have a sinking feeling it is, but one can hope, right?
I just bought one this morning. I will let you know when I get it. I unlocked my moto x for $8 and I'm assuming this should be just as easy and cheap to unlock.
my question too, i wanna buy one but use it on wind mobile i was wondering the same thing too.
I bought one today. It's locked (tested with a Rogers sim)
Yes, it is locked.

In for more info on unlocking it. I've never owned a Moto android phone, but I have owned Samsung HTC and Sony. I was looking to buy one outright from Telus as well and use it with my existing Rogers SIM... currently an i896 Captivate...

the g doesn't have AWS/1700 band, so it won't work with wind.

Wind Mobile provides UMTS wireless services with High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) for data, using its license on the UMTS IV frequency band, also known as Advanced Wireless Services (AWS). Using this band, user equipment transmits at 1710–1755 MHz, and receives at 2110–2155 MHz.

yeah ickecked too, on paper it should work but then again they r all locked to telus/koodo and looks like no one has unlocked theirs yet
Now that it's confirmed that there are 2 GSM models of this phone, can anybody confirm which one Telus is selling?
http://www.motorola.com/us/shop-all-mobile-phones-1/Moto-G/moto-g-pdp.html
Global GSM Model: GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
US GSM Model: GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz)
If anybody can post the FCC ID, that would help... Or perhaps the sticker on the box lists the available bands?

Looking at the UK website for the retail Moto G http://www.motorola.co.uk/consumers/mobile-phones/Moto-G/moto-g-gb.html
It lists the following bands:
Bands/Modes
CDMA: 850/1900
UMTS: 850/900/1700/1900/2100
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
So that's penta-band 3G and EV-DO CDMA!
This may be a mistake and it seems more likely that the version for sale in Europe is actually the quad-band Global GSM model above?
I dropped by at a Telus store today and asked to see the box for a Moto G. The FCC ID on the label was IHDT56PF1.
From the "Exposure Test Report 1" you can see that the WCDMA bands tested were 850 and 1900MHz. (the FCC only tests the bands that are used in the USA): https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...rame=N&application_id=640163&fcc_id=IHDT56PF1
The US GSM version is IHDT56PF2 - differing only in the last digit. The SAR report lists 850, 1700, and 1900MHz: https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...rame=N&application_id=836630&fcc_id=IHDT56PF2
So unless some trickery is possible such as flashing the radio ROM of one phone onto the other, the Telus-sold version of the Moto G won't have 1700MHz support out of the box.
The label also had the Industry Canada certification number on it, which was 109O-T56PF1. I searched it on Industry Canada's Radio Equipment List, and got this result:
http://www.ic.gc.ca/app/sitt/reltel...ssionid=0001VktzEWaH7HTarJ9DM_DcqaQ:6LBRFVSML
Edit: Looks like I can't link to a search result, but you can perform the search yourself here: http://www.ic.gc.ca/app/sitt/reltel/srch/nwRdSrch.do?lang=eng
Given that they have the same certification number, it looks like the XT1032 and XT1035 are probably identical hardware. My guess is that the latter will go to another provider like Rogers/Fido.

I just got the Moto G from Koodo for my niece to use on her Telus account. Hopefully, it will work without being unlocked.
I just sold a mint i896 to a friend of mine. That phone was awesome and is still heavily supported with the latest CM releases
Moto G versions
Hey Guys
I'm trying to make a list of Moto G versions, so that people can know which ones will work with their provider in Canada or other countries.
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544708
If you can add your findings in that thread, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks again!

Yes. I believe the difference is that the US version has the 1700AWS band for T-Mobile. Global has the 2100 band that works better overseas.
Ok thanks I don't have TMobile or one of their subsidiaries anyway and tend to travel over seas in the summer so looks like I made the right choice anyway

I'm thinking of getting the G. I will use it in Germany for 3 wks next year, and use it once (2-3 wks) in Taiwan when I visit my friends and family. I will mostly use it in the US trying out different prepaid plans. I think I'd better get a US version, but is there any chance to get 3G in Europe or Taiwan with a US version?
Thanks.

No with the US version you will NOT get 3G in Europe or Taiwan. You will get 2G however. If you want 3G overseas you need to the global version but you lose T-mobiles AWS band support.
thanks. Is there a phone (moto x, nexus 5, or anything) that support 3G band of all carriers in all regions?

A thing that I've noticed in the reviews is that the US versions of the phone, the cases (at least the black one) has a "metallic" look on that M on the back while the Global / European version that M it's only glossy.
Just got my US 16gb model yesterday via Amazon. Back cover has a glossy black "M" logo, nothing metallic about it.
Bummer to hear this phone won't do 3G in Europe, I went with the USA model since I just moved over to T-mobile, and a lot of the 3G signal in my area is still on 1700 mhz. My AT&T phone was getting 3G in a lot of areas, but just enough EDGE data to annoy me and make me buy the G.

Will moto g lte from fido with with wind if unlocked?

Sorry if this is stupid question but I'm new to this whole band thing. I've tried researching but no answers.

Canadian motorola site lte specs
Networks - Moto G with 4G LTE
US GSM Model:
4G LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, 17 (1900, 1700, 850, 700 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
Wind requires AWS 1700 and 1900
I'm not sure if all UMTS 1700 is always AWS? I'm not sure if the US GSM model is the same as canadian model, but it seems to be. Fido doesn't list UMTS but I'm assuming it is since thats the only specs provided on the motorola site. If someone could explain or just let me know if it will work on WIND that would be great.
Thanks
Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: HSPA is a superset of UMTS (you may also see WCDMA, not to be confused with CDMA, which is for our purposes identical). Band 4, a.k.a AWS or UMTS 1700 is a bit unusual in that traffic from the phone to the tower is on 1700 MHz (uplink), but on 2100 MHz from the tower to the phone/user equipment (downlink).
There are three models sold in Canada: XT1032 ("Global" HSPA model) XT1034 ("US" HSPA model, AWS, sold by Wind and Videotron) and XT1040 (LTE model, the US one is the XT1045, what actual differences there are remain to be seen)
Were either of you able to confirm?
I'm on the same boat, conteplating buying the 4G LTE version from FIDO to use on Wind.
Thanks in advance!
Yes to wind
From everything i read it will work on wind as the the only moto g lte with lte 2600 is the same one that has 1700 3g band, Have either of you guys rooted and if so how and where did you find directions. Ill unlock tomorrow am and then let you guys know.
Thanks guys!
I've contacted wind tech support for an official confirmation.
As Darkshado mentioned, the only 4G LTE model listed on Motorola.ca is the US GSM 4G LTE model with the following specs:
Networks - Moto G with 4G LTE
US GSM Model:
4G LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, 17 (1900, 1700, 850, 700 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
Everything points to this being able to run on Wind - 1700 and 2100 MHz. It'll be cool if it can..
gthompson75 - by rooting, i suppose you mean a network unlock, right? I dont think you need to "root" to get it working on Wind
wind works
OK I unlocked my Fido moto g LTE today. My model is xt1040, once unlocked no problem on wind. Took a while to get a signal but worked none the less. Hope this helps you guys.
yup, so you're in the same situation as me, i went to 2 different fido stores and no one has it in stock
went online to order it the past few days, error in the last step
call the number and order it over the phone and save your time
hopefully i will be getting the phone soon
i actually found a store called wirelesswave and they had the moto g lte, i took a look at the box, it was the xt1040 (i was expecting the xt1045 just from reading around the subforums), the front of the box does not advertise the 4g/lte at all, it's in small print on the back of the box
I can also confirm it works. Thanks for the help guys.
where did you unlock it from and how much did it cost

if i could get a website.
I have the same problem : I can't find any website to unlock it for sure.
If those who already have unlocked their XT1040 could reply, it would be fantastic.
Thanks.

Don't believe so. In Canada, phones which work on Bell, Rogers, Telus networks will not work on neither Wind or Mobilicity networks, even though Wind mobile phone have full functionality on Mobilicity and vice versa, after unlocking, of course. In my experience, however, the unlocked Wind/ Mobilicity phone does work on the other networks, you wont get 3G or LTE data connection though, only 2G.
@chichibud31: Dude.... Did you read the thread? Multiple posts from users in the field confirming it works.
The whole "Robellus phones don't work on Wind/Mobilicity/Vidéotron and vice versa" is mostly obsolete. (Caveat emptor, but usually the worst case scenario is that you'll have to play with QPST.)
There was some truth to it back when the new entrants launched their networks and penta-band HSPA SoCs were not common. But even back then you had devices like the Telus Galaxy S 2 X that worked on AWS HSPA because it was the same model as what T-Mobile USA sold.
I've been using a Mobilicity T889V on Virgin Mobile then Koodo for about two years. DC-HSPA worked out of the box and I got LTE working as well. Activating AWS HSPA on the Rogers/Bell/Telus variant is easy.
It's been said before, the non-LTE XT1032 won't work with AWS carriers; out of the box at least, it remains to be seen if it could be modded.
That's actually a non-advertised feature of the LTE Moto G versus it's HSPA-only siblings: it can roam pretty much worldwide on 3G.
