So just installed the newest update and am having a few problems...just want to confirm others are having the same.
As a side note, I haven't rooted my shield so however that factors in.
First, on the Shield, under shield games all of my games are gone.
Second, on pc, my shield apps folder was rewritten and is now empty of all game shortcuts.
Third, when adding shortcuts in the shield apps folder, shield won't update the shortcuts. So I'm stuck with shortcuts that don't work in my PC section. I can always use steam but, the dead shortcuts are pretty annoying.
Haven't done much else yet, I hope the rest isn't so bad.
Sent from my SHIELD using xda app-developers app
Never mind, steam isn't working either. It says 'cannot find steam'. I have geforce updated, not sure what's wrong. Anyone else?
Sent from my SHIELD using xda app-developers app
i haven't been able to download the new update yet!!!
my shield says up to date!
Well by how its going that's probably a good thing
Sent from my SHIELD using xda app-developers app
Well apparently for the dead shortcuts to be taken off and for steam to work I just had to restart my PC and shield. But, that still leaves the other two problems...new shortcuts won't go on, shield games list still empty.
Sent from my SHIELD using xda app-developers app
you mean as in when you press the Nvidia Logo the Shield Games section theres no android games appearing?
i also have this issue now that i am finally updated to OTA 65
Yup that's exactly what's happening to me.
Sent from my SHIELD using xda app-developers app
your gonna hate me for saying this but after me formatting my shield to factory default everything works fine even the nvidia dashboard game short-cuts,
FWIW I ran into the same problem of game icons disappearing. No fix for now but will investigate.

Ha, then you're really gonna hate me for saying this: for some unknown reason, I turned on my shield today and all those games returned. I had already tried resetting my shield several times before without it working, so I have no idea why it did now.
Still one problem though, still can't add apps in the shield apps folder on my PC.
Sent from my SHIELD using xda app-developers app
phew! I;m not the only person experiencing issues with steam!
Seems there is an issue with OTA 65 or the geforce experience update.
I am also getting the issue with my shield saying it cannot find steam, or it cannot launch steam. such a pain, it will set my pc screen to 720p res and then get stuck there.
my advice is not to update yet as it doesn't really offer anything new, expect for pc streaming in console mode to tv but no use if it can;t even launch steam.
Interestingly the icon issue fixed itself for me as well.

*note, this is backwards compatable with honeycomb and cell phone, it is NOT a stretched out version like the previous market updates and it also still gives u Staff picks for tablets.
*note 2* this will not over write your original market so u will have 2 to choose from"its a good thing imo"
*note 3* we can now leave reviews for the apps
*note 4* new option to use a pin number to download paid apps*
*note 5* it will say it will over write market but it doesnt u just end up with 2
UPDATE. I didn't realize, ton of apps force close now. Deleting the new market and rebooting fixed it. Sux
I'm not saying this doesn't work on the TF, but this it NOT for HoneyComb as stated in the big red alert box in the article. This is for Phones. Have you actually used it? Can you upload some screenshots on your TF?
Am I missing something, or is this the market update that rolled out on phones weeks ago and actually has nothing to do with our tablet android market?
i should have mentions 2 things, this does not write over your market, so in turn u will have 2 markets to choose from* thats a plus * also dont listing to what they say in that link its def also for honeycomb and not a streched out version of the market
I would upload a pic but it is not letting me, it wants me to replace my current market...

This actually caused issues in a variety of apps when it was released. News Republic was the one I had trouble with. Basically, it would FC on startup. Rolled back to stock market and it was fine again.
This is not 100% compatible with Honeycomb
EDIT: btw, I was not the only one to report issues

all my apps working fine here with it.
It looks fine and works great on the TF. Just like the new market for phones but..."tablet-fied". I'll upload a screenshot shortly.

Just installed this, It works great and looks very nice.
It does indeed install a second market, so you still have the old one if you want to use it.
the interface seems more tablet optimised, you can swipe the screen to the side to reveal more lists etc for example.
thx for the share! love the design of the new market app! I can easily post some screens if people want me to
hopefully not a dumb question, but after download when installing it says this is a system app and will replace the previous system app. Will this replace the other mkt or overwrite it
I know others said there would be 2 mkts but did others get that pop-up.
I just wanted to make sure before I went thru with it...

yea we all get the pop up but just hit ok it wont over write it
Yep, i got that message as well, but as said, it does not replace it, you get 2 market icons in your app drawer, one for each version, and they both run fine still.
It's interesting that it has the action bar in it, which makes me think they're working on getting it to tablets as well.
I loved the look of it, and browsed it for a good 10 minutes. Then i tried to play sprinkle and it kept force closing....I tried riptide and it force closed....i tried Big Bang Racing and it force closed...
I removed it and somehow everything works again....this market does have problems so to save everyone else the time, dont download it because you will love the look of it and be forced to uninstall it due to FC issues sadly

well I took the leap and it is as nice as on my phone. Looks really nice on-the tablet.
I have not experienced any FC's on the games you listed.
I will report back if anything changes.
Try and freeze factory market in titanium and let me know if that resolves the issue cus it has for me, ill edit OP if someone comfirms fix other than me
After installing the new market and uninstalling it again via Titanium Backup I get force closes when I click the "My apps" button in the Market. How do I fix this?
I always had issues with the peel application shutting off my tv, but now after doing the update to the application today it's working flawlessly.

I'm not sure if it was in any of the prior updates, but now the app starts on boot. I don't know about anyone else, but i prefer to only have things running when I want them to. I'm sure it's not that much of a battery drain, but it was enough reason for me undo the update...
Thanks guys! I work for Peel. Recent updates no longer trying to power on your TVs when internally the app state machine thinks your TV is off

I recently pulled the Wired Magazine .apk from a cousin's Kindle Fire, and have found that it works well on the Nexus 7, and presumably other tablets. The current version is ̶2̶.̶7̶.̶0̶.̶1̶1̶.̶6̶0̶2̶0̶1̶ 2.9, and the only downside is that it seems like the magazine itself does not fill the entire screen while in viewing mode.
Some prerequisites:
-both Adobe Air and the Amazon Appstore must be installed (you must be logged in, too) for the app to function
-if you have an ad blocker installed, you must add any any websites that include adobe to your whitelist. Mine included "broker.adobe.com" and "stats.adobe.com". This might not be necessarily, but it is a good precaution. If you ignore this and the app crashes, uninstall it and add them.
Just install the app normally after checking the first two things. Also, you must have already purchased the magazines (at least in my testing). If you have a print subscription, I would advise creating your account on a computer, not in the app.

Thanks for this, any chance of pulling the latest version? I believe it's 2.9 or so.
Thanks! Works great on my N73G.
Just wanted to say thanks. I also have the problem of the app not filling the screen on the Nexus 7. Funny that it (presumably) works on the Kindle Fire HD, which is the same resolution.

The Kindle Fire HD is the same screen resolution, but the regular Kindle Fire is not. It's 1024x600 vs 1280x800, a short coming of ~200 pixels in each direction. This could explain the black edges. Maybe it defaults to the 1024x600 resolution unless it sees some indication of being on a Fire HD (ie: build.prop or other file). If so, I imagine there could be a fix for this to mimic the HD and get the full resolution.
OR, Wired could just release the damn app for all Android platforms. :silly:

I think you're right, but I unfortunately don't have access to a Fire HD. I think they use different versions on each different model, so that might be why. That is a complete guess, through.

Yeah, F* that. Wired will give a free interactive digital issue to iPad and Kindle owners, but charge existing subscribers extra for some crappy PDF version that I could download for free from a number of places.
If Wired doesn't change it's tune, I'm planning on cancelling once my current subscription is over - just on principle.

I used to get this error on my Nook Color but was able to successfully ignore it. Make sure you have the Amazon App store installed, logged in and updated. I think you also need Adobe Air. If you haven't already, "purchase" the Wired app in the Amazon app store via the web. It won't let you download the app and will say your device isn't compatible, but maybe it will get rid of the ownership message. I'm guessing here, so no promises this will fix anything.
Still not working on my n7. I've gotten it to work on my cm7 nook color, but I've tried everything on my n7. I've even re-installed the amazon app store and adobe air. I've also tried the previous version of the wired magazine apk. I get everything to install and open normally, I just can't log in to download my subscriptions. Anyone have any other suggestions?
The messed up thing about this is that it was a wired article that I was reading on my nook color that made me want to upgrade to the n7.

Make sure you disable any ad blocking software or changes made to your hosts file to block ads. This prevents you from logging in to the app.
Thanks, but I'm not running any ad blocking software (unless there's a native app on the n7 that's doing this and I'm not aware of it).

If you have Adobe Air installed, then I don't know what you can do. Try uninstalling Air and the Wired, and then re-install them. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. Wired doesn't offer ANY support so you're just out of luck.
Hoping someone can help. Running paranoid android on a note 2. Installed Adobe air and Amazon AppStore (logged in). I am able to open app, sign in, download, and install an issue...but when I go to view the issue it crashes/force closes.
Any advice?

Google play finally allows you to sign up for free subscriptions using your existing print subscription. As of today, there is no longer a need to do the Wired app dance with Amazon.

I just picked this surface up last night, it had 55 updates that I let install. Then it said 8.1 was available, it would download half the way then stall and give me error code 0x80240031. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
You just have to try again, it does happen sometimes, just keep trying. Jim
You may also want to reconsider updating as the jailbreak will no longer function
It's brand new, no jail break or nothing
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
My point was that 8.0 has a jailbreak whereas 8.1 does. If you update to 8.1 you wont be able to jailbreak in the near future.
Oh that's fine.

On second thought... maybe I should figure out the benefits and what I can do with jail breaking it. I've always been android, so not sit what the surface is capable of.

With the jailbreak you can run third party desktop applications whereas without the jailbreak you can only run the desktop programs that come on the device already. They still need porting specifically for windows RT though in most cases.
The jailbreak is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092158
And then there is a list of software to go with it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092348
Got some nice little gems in there, if this doesnt concern you too badly then go ahead with the 8.1 update.
I finally got it to update, but now I'm getting furious. Getting another error code. 0x8020002e when installing a simple ****ing app. This is getting old quickly.

are you on a metered connection?

Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
That is probably a no then, and the only known thing to cause that error to occur across multiple platforms.
Open the settings charm (mouse to right of screen or windows key + I), Change PC Settings, Network, Connections, Select the connection and under data usage it has a metered connection toggle. It being on seems to cause that error, but it wont be on unless you set it to be on.
Otherwise I cant find anything about why that error would occur and only a handful of people experiencing it, all of whom have had it go away after a system refresh, but you've just gotten a whole new machine which should have sorted that.

Thanks man, It's not on a metered connection, this is so confusing.
So i have the Shield Tablet and i also have a Nexus 5. I noticed the Shield Home Screen has 5 panels, regardless of if they are empty or not. On the Nexus 5 empty panels are automatically removed when they have no icons/widgets. This doesnt seem to happen on the Shield Tablet however. I have the main home screen full, and 1 screen to the left and 1 screen to the right with some content but not full (3 panels). I still have the 4th and fifth panels even though they are empty. Id really like to remove these as they are not in use.
Has any one figured out how to remove the panels?
I should mention i am NOT interested in using another launcher. Thanks

There isn't any way to do this using the stock Android launcher. The Nexus devices use the Google Now Launcher

It does not break any of the NVidia stuff. They were just using the stock launcher without anything modified to begin with. The stylus stuff all still works (I don't have a controller to test but it should still work as well). I first tried it out with an APK from AndroidPolice but it was also just updated today by Google to work with any device running 4.1+ and can be installed via the Play Store. If it's a staged rollout you may just not be able to see the install button yet.
Yea I tried finding it yesterday and it wasn't in the store. If you pull down the settings from the top right so you still see the square for the stylus and controller in with other settings (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc)?
I'll install it when I get home to check it out. Thanks
