I recently pulled the Wired Magazine .apk from a cousin's Kindle Fire, and have found that it works well on the Nexus 7, and presumably other tablets. The current version is ̶2̶.̶7̶.̶0̶.̶1̶1̶.̶6̶0̶2̶0̶1̶ 2.9, and the only downside is that it seems like the magazine itself does not fill the entire screen while in viewing mode.
Some prerequisites:
-both Adobe Air and the Amazon Appstore must be installed (you must be logged in, too) for the app to function
-if you have an ad blocker installed, you must add any any websites that include adobe to your whitelist. Mine included "broker.adobe.com" and "stats.adobe.com". This might not be necessarily, but it is a good precaution. If you ignore this and the app crashes, uninstall it and add them.
Just install the app normally after checking the first two things. Also, you must have already purchased the magazines (at least in my testing). If you have a print subscription, I would advise creating your account on a computer, not in the app.

Thanks for this, any chance of pulling the latest version? I believe it's 2.9 or so.
Thanks! Works great on my N73G.
Just wanted to say thanks. I also have the problem of the app not filling the screen on the Nexus 7. Funny that it (presumably) works on the Kindle Fire HD, which is the same resolution.

The Kindle Fire HD is the same screen resolution, but the regular Kindle Fire is not. It's 1024x600 vs 1280x800, a short coming of ~200 pixels in each direction. This could explain the black edges. Maybe it defaults to the 1024x600 resolution unless it sees some indication of being on a Fire HD (ie: build.prop or other file). If so, I imagine there could be a fix for this to mimic the HD and get the full resolution.
OR, Wired could just release the damn app for all Android platforms. :silly:

I think you're right, but I unfortunately don't have access to a Fire HD. I think they use different versions on each different model, so that might be why. That is a complete guess, through.
I don't know if it helps but Wired is now available via Google Magazines in the UK at least.

Is it linked to a print subscription? We can get a glorified .PDF here (I'm the US) and we have to pay extra for it.

Yeah, F* that. Wired will give a free interactive digital issue to iPad and Kindle owners, but charge existing subscribers extra for some crappy PDF version that I could download for free from a number of places.
If Wired doesn't change it's tune, I'm planning on cancelling once my current subscription is over - just on principle.

Anyone else have an issue signing into their accounts? I've followed all of the install instructions and the wired app starts up normally. I just can't sign in to download any content.

On N7, Wired app says "App not owned" and redirects to amazonappstore and there I get the "App is not Compatibile" message.
No chance to click on the grey button (in the wired app) in top right corner "Current Magazine Subscribers.."

I used to get this error on my Nook Color but was able to successfully ignore it. Make sure you have the Amazon App store installed, logged in and updated. I think you also need Adobe Air. If you haven't already, "purchase" the Wired app in the Amazon app store via the web. It won't let you download the app and will say your device isn't compatible, but maybe it will get rid of the ownership message. I'm guessing here, so no promises this will fix anything.
Still not working on my n7. I've gotten it to work on my cm7 nook color, but I've tried everything on my n7. I've even re-installed the amazon app store and adobe air. I've also tried the previous version of the wired magazine apk. I get everything to install and open normally, I just can't log in to download my subscriptions. Anyone have any other suggestions?
The messed up thing about this is that it was a wired article that I was reading on my nook color that made me want to upgrade to the n7.

Make sure you disable any ad blocking software or changes made to your hosts file to block ads. This prevents you from logging in to the app.
Thanks, but I'm not running any ad blocking software (unless there's a native app on the n7 that's doing this and I'm not aware of it).

If you have Adobe Air installed, then I don't know what you can do. Try uninstalling Air and the Wired, and then re-install them. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. Wired doesn't offer ANY support so you're just out of luck.
Hoping someone can help. Running paranoid android on a note 2. Installed Adobe air and Amazon AppStore (logged in). I am able to open app, sign in, download, and install an issue...but when I go to view the issue it crashes/force closes.
Any advice?

It's probably am issue with paranoid android and the fact that the app is not meant to be compatible with anything other than the kindle fire. Do you have a stock device to test it on?

Google play finally allows you to sign up for free subscriptions using your existing print subscription. As of today, there is no longer a need to do the Wired app dance with Amazon.

Can you test it out and make sure it works? The way it sounded in the article was that TW only allowed a few devices for it to work on. Thanks btw.
I would but doubt it will be all that effective for what I coukd test, I'm with Comcast and the parental unit controks the only set top.

Doesn't seem worth testing. Just use tv listings app from Market. Time Warner app doesn't stream live unless you are on an iPad.
Which is why I've never bothered with the XFinity TV app, they only support *real* watching on an iOS device.

I installed the app and registered. It works, but the above post is correct. It's easier to use the set top box. If I'm not at my TV, what do I care what is on?
It does, however, allow you to view your shows set up to record, and to set shows to record. While that may be occasionally useful, I'll probably forget I have that capability and never use it.
No pooint if they don't suppose live streaming right? I just checked, it's available on the market, but I don't wanna download a stupid and useless app..

I have the app on my Transformer and I use it allot. It can control all of the boxes in my house and change the channel as well. Pretty useful if you have you tab in hand.

Thanks for checking guys. I will post the .apk if no one has by the time I get home tonight.
Just signed up for my free 14 day trial of epix, and tried to download the app with my kindle, but the market was pretending my device wasn't compatible. So I downloaded it to my phone and side loaded it to my kindle no problem, then just went to the website and activated it as an Android device and everything seems to be working fine.

Pretty cool so far, hopefully they get enough interest from people without cable to offer this as a stand alone service.

I'm on hellfire's ICS. I downloaded the app above and when I opened it up it says that I don't own the app. When I press see details it takes me to the Amazon app store with hbo go tantalizing close. Yet it won't let me "purchase " it because it says it is not compatible with my device.

go to the amazon WEBSITE and purchase the app, not the amazon app store application...you should still have the stock kindle on you amazon account which would allow purchase

I am using gede's rom as well. I had the hbo 1.4 from the market before this and worked as well.
But I did go through the website as suggested and purchased the app from amazon. However the app does not show up under the amazon app on the KF.
I first made a tb backup of my 1.4 first and then uninstalled the app all together.
I then side loaded the apk in the thread after I purchased the app from amazon. Installed the apk from my dropbox account.
At first I tried to open the app right after the install and was getting force closes at random times. So I knew it worked and so I decided to just reboot and see. And viola! The app opens without an issue. I am watching Kung Fu Panda 2 right now in HD
I wonder why TWC isn't listed in the providers with the new HBO Go app. This kind of irritates me since I use TWC and can not use the new it.

what's crazy is HBO is actually owned by the Time Warner parent company...and they stated only 1% of their viewership even use Go.
the regular one on the play store has TWC, and so does the ipad one (which the KF one closely resembles), so it's just stupidity
Thanks. I got it to install and run but still force closes after reboot. Any idea why?
edit: wiped data in Titanium Backup and ran app a few more times and it finally works lol

Any know how to update the Photoshop Touch app that came preinstalled?
The play store shows there was an update on Sept 5th but I have no option to update because it is not showing as installed and $9.99 to buy.
I checked the Samsung app store thinking maybe i had to update there, like i have to do specifically for all the faotd from Amazon, but the PST app isnt even listed in Samsung market.
Confused.....

The app is customised for the GN 10.1 so most likely Samsung would need to push it out via Google Play like with their other apps. Best to pose the question with Samsung.
not so much that it's customized for the gn10.1 but that it's licensed to only be used by your gn10.1.
if it were available through any market i'm pretty sure they'd be violating some kind of license they have with adobe as you'll then be able to install it on any device linked to the account.
It gets updated when updates come for the Note itself. And update to JB will surely update it as well.

Hi,
Photoshop is amazing for photos, coloring etc., but in my experience it's not good for drawing.
Try Scketchbook pro, layerpaint (palm rejection can be configured and it's very good), tv paint (beta) etc.
You can draw and color at one of those then add effects in photoshop.

You would also need to get the Flash enabled version of GTV Chrome working, since that is really what the app relies on.
EDIT: At least that is the case on the Sony NSZ-GT1. If it is different for your device, I'll have a look, but from what research I have done, it is not an easy task & it will involve a few modifications that will not sit well with other apps or the Play Store.
Post it up though, I just got my dev environment setup on my new machine & the missus will be out of town this weekend.

Well, I have to report that I have had little luck getting this to work on any non-GTV device. I even built an AOSP build with using a GTC boardconfig. No luck.
I am very pissed with Amazon though, so I went & bought a LTE KF HD 8.9 & I am going to play with getting it working on other tablets. Man I hate the Kindle stock experience. Thank goodness for root. I'll let you know if I find a simple way to get it running, but it will take some time as business is wicked crazy right now.

Yes & no. I have firstly been playing with the Nexus 10 & the KF HD 8.9. I was able to finally get AVOD to work on the Nexus 10, BUT, *BUT*, I essentially had toport the entire KF rom to the Nexus 10. It is buggy & there are some graphical & resolution issues, but it worked.
The only other instance I have found was also similar. A guy got it working on a Galaxy Tab, essentially doing the same thing, porting the whole KF rom.
You could of course use a different launcher, but it is still ICS, 4.0.3, & aside from losing a lot of the N10 cool features, it really is far from stable. I don't have a lot of time for this stuff at the moment, work is crazy busy these days. At any rate, I am going to see if I can try to go about it the other way & try to port some of the KF framework & core apps to JB when I get some time. Right now though, it is a no go.
