Is google even going to acknowledge the microphone problem?? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This mic makes this phone almost unusable. I HATE having to constantly repeat myself because everyone keeps telling me they can't hear me. Makes me not even want to call...
Something tells me Google just doesn't give a **** because why would they? They've already sold their phones and I just don't see them putting in any real effort to fix this.
The more nexus phones I own the less I want to buy another...sigh it could have been so nice. Guess I'll probably end up trying to trade for a g2 if this doesn't get solved.

It just baffles me how many nexus users are so accepting of this and just shrug it off. If this was any other major release is from apple it would be all over the news. I guess we've just been conditioned to accept crap because of the low price? Doesn't seem worth it if you ask me

no problem with my microphone. i hear it well, and people that i talk to hear me well. especially people on tmobile, who have the tmobile hd calling option included in their phone as well. google would only work to take care of it if many were having the same issue, which it appears that the issue, if exists, is very limited.

Are you a quiet talker? Or does your voice "carry "? I don't think this has anything to do with hardware because I've seen threads of people who have returned with phones with no luck. Like others have postulated I believe it has to do with the noise cancelling reading (part?) of my voice as background noise.
This is a real issue and i know I'm not the only one

I'm on Tmobile and that doesn't make a difference if the other person has Tmobile too
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

I fixed my issue by only talking on my right ear because my left ear would cover top mic and people couldn't hear.

do you have tmobiles hd calling in your area? it makes a huge difference over regular calling!

No problem on my microphone. Only problem that I have is during a call I lose signal resulting in a dropped call.

Free from T-Mo in areas where they support it.. I believe it's just a 3G/4G requirement and a phone that is compatible. Both phones have to be able to do it, with the proper coverage, and then it greatly increases the bitrate on the call making it just as good as a Skype to Skype call for instance.

My mic is just fine. In fact, most people say I sound like I'm on a landline. The N5 has some of the best call quality of any phone I've used, surprisingly.

I have no issues at all and people are telling me I sound better both on the phone itself and via bluetooth than I did with my sgs4. I'm on AT&T.

Is it just during phone calls? Have you tried doing just a voice recording or recording a video? It's not a problem with the mic if your voice is fine after you try that.

Ring back tones on Nexus S 4G?

My wife has a Nexus S 4G with Sprint. The music plus app is not available. Does anyone know how we can get ring back tones on that device?
Isn't this a carrier feature rather than a phone feature?
I thought that is a lame Verizon feature?

It is a carrier feature I think its 5$ a month extra on sprint

I tend to agree on the lame part (I hate being subjected to someone else's music choices involuntarily), but try not to judge. I'm pretty sure a majority of carriers offer this, since it's another way to part subscribers from money.

I just remember when Verizon first got the service and everybody started using it. I wanted to throw my phone every time I called a Verizon customer!

If thats the case, thats your answer....NO WAY 3 phones are all bad.
Well we will get maybe 1/5 calls. And texts are coming in hours after they are sent to us. Its on all the phones.

But its happening on THREE different phones.....i know you know the probability that all three phones are bad is Super Crazy.
ehhh who knows though.....its trial and error my friend.
I called at&t and they said they are doing updates to different things and its gonna make the network flip out.

If you have issues like that on everyone's phone in the same area, first thing to always do is call att.

This is a horrible question to ask. If there are 3 different phones on the acct in the same area having the same problem do you really think its miui thats causing it? I thought people have more common sense then that. Seriously dude. Think about it.

New to one s

on t mobile with the one s any issues I should be aware of? should I get something else?
I'm loving mine. 4.3" is the perfect size screen for, and It's very fast.

So I'm guessing no problems to report

On some tests i see that Tmobile One S has inferior battery life than the international one.
That's due to the bloatware they put on it. Rooting fixes that though.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
No disrespect--just curious
Why would you be "new to the One S" and now asking if you should get something else and wondering about issues. If you mean you don't have it yet then there are many threads and posts on the forum already. And as far as I can say, it is perfect if you are OK with no SD Card and 9.3gb available internal memory--I am. Some complain on Multitasking--I have no issues. Although, all that is individual needs and opinions--and is covered extensively in various threads--
Highly recommend starting to read the General and Q&A sections for a wealth of info--
Whatever your currrent status is with the phone--enjoy it if you got it--and you will enjoy it, if you buy it--
Ken
I love the phone only thing I've noticed is multitasking, and signal. With regards to multitasking what happens is let's say you're web browsing or playing a game whatever then you do something else like check xda app. When you go back a lot of times instead of those apps continuing where they left off from it has to start up back again. It actually does it for xda app also. With the signal cell tower signal I just get a lot of fluctuations between bars dropping and coming back.

I flashed Trickdroid and Axiom S and wifi calling still not usable. I have turrible reception in parts of my house.
I wonder if the crappy wifi calling quality has its root in an buggy radio, if another ROM is also suffering from it? Anyhow, that is really the only "defect" I can find with this model. Otherwise, it's good! I wish it would have a removable SD card, but I recall reading somewhere in the forums that it is possible to mount external drives and such on this phone, but you need a USB Y cable (since the phone can't power the external device), or at least that's what I remember. One might also need a ROM to use the phone as a USB host. The possibility to do this makes me a little less upset over having just 16 GB of memory (or on TMob US only 10GB because of all the junk it comes with).
GS3 FTW!
Earlier today I received a notification that said I needed to get a newer sim for WiFi calling. I'll stop by the T-Mobile store tomorrow(today).

Might go to the gs3 the more I think about it. Expandable storage is necessary considering I use the camera on my phone as primary and I have a 7 month old daughter. Is the storage on the one s accessible in any way?

Hardware issues resolved?

I have a Galaxy S3, but Im considering moving on to a Nexus 5. I heard there were issues with the headphone mic and some other hardware issues. Having a working headphone mic is pretty important to me...can anyone tell me if that issue has been fixed? Any other input from someone else's experience who has perhaps came from an S3 would be great...positive or negative.

There are no different hardware versions of this phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597276
So basically some people got some lemons as it happens with pretty much any product. But over all the build quality is as good as it looks? Hope so because I really like the looks of this phone and I really over and done with sammy phones.

There are certain manufacturing tolerances with any mass-produced product which results in small variations between different units of the same device. Overall, my experience with this phone has been that most of the "issues" it supposedly has have been really overblown in these forums. I came from a GS4, and the N5 blows it away in terms of build quality and feel.
Mine is a launch day N5 and it is flawless. It's just the luck of the draw, as it is with every piece of tech these days.

Quick Question

I can't get a straight answer on this. Is there a speaker phone on the 4G Gear S2? I want to get one for $99 but only if it has a speaker phone.
Yes it has a speaker. You can see this on YouTube reviews if you want.

I have not found anything on youtube that shows speaker phone capability. I thought I had read some where that it has a speaker for music but no speaker phone. Had to be paired with a blue-tooth headset to respond to calls. So, it does have speaker phone capabilities? Or it just has a speaker? BTW thanks for the response.
