Mobile Hotspot not working on GB 2.3.4

Since I installed the 2.3.4 leak the Verizon Mobile Hotspot app is no longer working. I am getting the following message when I attempt to activate the hotspot:
"If you would like to subscribe to Mobile Hotspot/Mobile Broadband Connect, call....."
I actually have the tethering option on my plan (company phone). I'm not sure if this is a problem with the leak, or Verizon has something messed up on their end.
Anybody else having issues?

That's because the lonnnnnnnnng extended trial period is over now.
You probably have the promotional hotspot feature expired. I called today to add it and it was 30 bux for the unlimited tethering feature. I had to tell them to look again 3 times and they finally found it.
I have the 2.3.4 leak and am using the built in hotspot feature without a hitch. I got the same message this morning prior to having them add the 4g hotspot feature (not the promotional hotspot)

FOUND: FoxFi Jelly Bean workaround

This is a method to make FoxFi fully functional, and to verify that you are not being charged by your carrier. Steps will need to be adjusted based on your carrier and their native tether bloatware, and may depend on your phone. This is based on a 'rizon Slll.
Enable FoxFi:
1. Open FoxFi Key app.
2. Enter Mobile Hotspot from the window shade, as it should show up there automatically.
3. Set up WPA2 encryption.
3. Enable connecting device: You will need to enter the MAC address and name of your connecting computer. You can name it whatever you want; in OS X, the MAC address can be found in WiFi > Network Preferences > Advanced > Hardware.
4. Connect to FoxFi on your computer.
DONE!
Verify that your carrier is not charging you:
1. Enter Mobile Hotspot.
2. Toggle it off.
3. Toggle it on.
4. If you are not being charged, your phone will say that it is checking for service, then a message will appear that you must call your carrier to enable service.
5. Close Mobile Hotspot and FoxFi, as you will no longer be able to use FoxFi after the service check has been completed through Mobile Hotspot.
6. Reopen FoxFi

I thought Verizon didn't charge for tethering anyway. Unless some people that still have unlimited data get charged for tethering?
From what I'm aware, Verizon still charges a monthly fee for tethering. I could be wrong, though.

Tethering is free on Verizon LTE phones. Of coure it will use data from your data plan. Look at Settings->Wireless and network->More Settings->Mobile Hotspot.
You can thank Google's "Open Access" provision when the C Block was being auctioned off.

I thought the ruling in that tethering case was they couldn't charge customers that are on the new share everything plan and thru couldn't block tethering apps.

It was explained to me that "grandfathered unlimited accounts" could be charged the $30 tethering mobile hotspot fee. All new shared plans cannot be charged per court decision.

That's what I thought also.
Gs3
hotspot
so for those of us on the unlimited plan, is there a way to disable the " verizon hotspot" from kicking in every time we try to use a 3rd party hotspot provider?
i am running jellybean 4.1.1 and just rooted my phone today and installed titanium pro. yet i can't seem to find anything in there to disable the verizon hotspot from being the primary hotspot app.
any help would be MOST appreciated!:fingers-crossed:
Correct. I still have an unlimited plan from VZ and would be charged for WiFi Hot spot unless i am rooted or can get my FoxFi work around going. Will try this later and hope it works.

There are tons of different roms that have the hotspot baked into it, I used Beans Build 7, But also if you look in the theme and apps section TrevE wifi tether mod works with 4.1.1.:good:

Sorry for asking, but I'm not seeing where to put in the MAC ID? How are you getting to this field?

Did all that and it worked. (kind of, I think)
Then closed FoxFi again.
Reopened FoxFi and the VZ Mobile Hotspot still continues to pop up. When the toggle is "ON", i can connect with my laptop. When I toggle it "OFF" so VZ Hotspot closes, and only FoxFi is open, the connection quits.
When I just open FoxFi and I can get a connection, the VZ Hotspot does not mention anything about a subscription (it only does when you toggle it off/on). Does this mean I am not being charged for it?
Unlimited data accounts are unlimited data for ONE device. A laptop or tablet constitutes another device using the data so there still allowed to charge a tethering fee

Not to be glib, but am I missing something here? I've been using FoxFi for over a year and a half and have never had any extra charges from VW. Install the app, set up a password, turn it on, good to go. No extra steps at all.
Foxfi did not work with my Gnex that was running android 4.1.1, but my S3 that I just picked up about a week ago is working fine. I am using it now to post this comment. In the description of the app it says will not work on "most" phone with Android 4.1. I am also on the unlimited plan and don't plan on giving it up lol.

Tether

Has anyone been able to tether from this phone without using the data from the tethering bucket?
In other words, Were you able to tether from it and use the data from the data bucket?
I have unlimited data with 3gb of tether. I would use the data from my unlimited data bucket to tether.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
You can use easytether however the full version is a paid app...this is confirmed to work with my older t-mobile grandfathered account which has unlimited 3g/h+ and no hotspot/tethering. It requires running an app on the pc side since it uses adb to build the connection. (usb and under windows also bluetooth).
Were you able to create a new APN by clicking on the + sign in the "tethering and hotspot" section?
You can just use the official lollipop tether. Doesn't count towards t-mobile tether data usage. Pulled down 25 gigs yesterday with no issues

Wireless Hotspot

Anyone on a Verizon grandfathered unlimited plan try the hotspot? I know Foxfi doesn't work on Android 7.0 for wireless tether, however I tried the mobile hotspot and it checks and says my hotspot is enabled and starts. Works great, checked my Verizon features and I am not subscribed to any tethering plans. Not sure what to do with it, anyone else try this? Will we get billed for this?
I'm wondering the same... I want to make sure before in go all in on this phone that this key feature is enabled while I remain on old unlimited plan.
Thanks!
I'm still grandfather unlimited and it tells me I need to subscribe to the hot spot service.
PDAnet?
Likewise, has anyone tried PDAnet with it for tethering?
delete
Tells me to subscribe
just got an s8+ today and found out that the native hotspot will work if you pop sim tray out, it will then take you to lock screen, pull down tray and turn on hotspot. You may get an error saying no sim installed but just keep pushing hotspot button until it turns on. It is working on mine now but now I am trying to figure out how I can disable ota updates. Anyone have any help for me? Thanks

Hotspot unavailable???

I'm using my safelink wireless simcard in my AT&T note 8 phone. When I try to turn on the hotspot I get the message saying "mobile hotspot unavailable. You need a data plan on att network ect...." Clearly I'm not able to contact att to add a data plan when I dont have service with them in the first place. The only wat I can tether is using my pdanet app. I want to use the mobile hotspot icon? Can any1 help me please?
Yes, my friend had problem with hotspot on unlocked att but could not find the solution
Package Disabler Pro is $3 but after removing bloatware I am able to use hotspot on Cricket.
