Wireless Hotspot - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Anyone on a Verizon grandfathered unlimited plan try the hotspot? I know Foxfi doesn't work on Android 7.0 for wireless tether, however I tried the mobile hotspot and it checks and says my hotspot is enabled and starts. Works great, checked my Verizon features and I am not subscribed to any tethering plans. Not sure what to do with it, anyone else try this? Will we get billed for this?

I'm wondering the same... I want to make sure before in go all in on this phone that this key feature is enabled while I remain on old unlimited plan.
Thanks!

I'm still grandfather unlimited and it tells me I need to subscribe to the hot spot service.

PDAnet?
Likewise, has anyone tried PDAnet with it for tethering?

Tells me to subscribe

just got an s8+ today and found out that the native hotspot will work if you pop sim tray out, it will then take you to lock screen, pull down tray and turn on hotspot. You may get an error saying no sim installed but just keep pushing hotspot button until it turns on. It is working on mine now but now I am trying to figure out how I can disable ota updates. Anyone have any help for me? Thanks

Mobile Hotspot not working on GB 2.3.4

Since I installed the 2.3.4 leak the Verizon Mobile Hotspot app is no longer working. I am getting the following message when I attempt to activate the hotspot:
"If you would like to subscribe to Mobile Hotspot/Mobile Broadband Connect, call....."
I actually have the tethering option on my plan (company phone). I'm not sure if this is a problem with the leak, or Verizon has something messed up on their end.
Anybody else having issues?

That's because the lonnnnnnnnng extended trial period is over now.
You probably have the promotional hotspot feature expired. I called today to add it and it was 30 bux for the unlimited tethering feature. I had to tell them to look again 3 times and they finally found it.
I have the 2.3.4 leak and am using the built in hotspot feature without a hitch. I got the same message this morning prior to having them add the 4g hotspot feature (not the promotional hotspot)

[Q] Huawei Unite Q on SIMPLEmobile...wifi hotspot problem

I have activated a Huawei u8730 "Unite Q" on simple mobile for someone. It is on the unlimited 4g plan. The phone was originally a t-mobile phone. Oddly enough, we activated to two phones and the other one's hotspot works fine! I can't remember what phone it was though. Anyway, the phone has a sweet, fast 4g connection and can browse the web, download, stream etc. with no problem. HOWEVER, when I try to activate the hotspot, I get a message saying "cannot connect to mobile data network". I'm inclined to believe that this phone has some sort of limitation on the wifi hotspot functionality put in place by t-mobile. I've also tried Foxfi and it will cycle through "verifying internet connection...starting hotspot 1 2 3" then flash something about failed for like a 10th of a second and turn back off. Would anyone happen to know of a workaround for this?
Bump...anybody?

tethering randomly doesn't work

I use the AT&T s7 on cricket and I have a reoccurring issue with the mobile hotspot that I need help with. With no rhyme or reason the Hotspot will work one day and then the next day I get an error message "to enable mobile hotpot go to at&t.com to activate service". The next time it will work, does anybody have a suggestion on how to get this to work all the time. Thanks
They told me at cricket that the AT&T s7 on cricket will not tether. I can't even sign up for it on my line.
You may want to try FoxFi, its on the app store. I know it works with the Verizon S7 to enable the tethering while bypassing the carrier checks.
Foxfi does not work with Sprint.

Enable wifi hotspot on a unlimited AT&T plan

Just signed with AT&T tried to use hotspot and said call. I did, have to lose unlimited data to use it. No thanks, any work around for this. I am stockC567B138
That's nothing new - hotspot aka tethering has never been approved on their unlimited plans. I have family share plan so I'm good. There are some workarounds, at least there used to be in the past.

Yeah I know, have been trying to find something to workaround it. But most I find isn't recent. We can run adb on these stock right? Just got this thing, saw some adb posts.
Was just reading you have to root to get it to work with ADB
I only have the 15GB family share plan and I just tried hotspot on the Mate 9 and it says to call AT&T. What gives?

try FoxFi from the PlayStore, or go old school via USB tether.

If this is a TTL issue, try adjusting that? May help your Wi-Fi issues? Most Russian providers have the same limitation on their "Unlimited" plans.
AT&T is the devil when it comes to tethering. I can tether fine on my iphone but my sim mostly lives in what ever Android device I'm currently carrying around. If I try to tether when on an Android device I get the dreaded call customer support message.
Data Issues
I have an issue with sharing data with any device either hotspot or tether. I'm using a MHA-L29. Huawei has replaced this phone once and I'm about to send back for second time. Cricket provided me with a new sim card and verified that everything should work. I'm on Advanced plan, 20GB plan with only 2.6GB used so far. I can swap sim into my Ascend Mate2 and data flows great. Anyone have any ideas?
I use straight talk, the sim uses at&t towers. The default tethering app works perfectly to hotspot my laptop.
I use it about 1-2 times a week, when I need to look something up, when I'm out in the field working on something
and don't have access. I MIGHT be connected 10-15 minutes, just web browsing.
Try this via ADB--You need to be rooted
adb shell
su
content insert --uri content://settings/global --bind name:s:tether_dun_required --bind value:i:0
"net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" >> /system/build.prop
OR from phone w/ terminal emulator app
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
exit

Hotspot unavailable???

I'm using my safelink wireless simcard in my AT&T note 8 phone. When I try to turn on the hotspot I get the message saying "mobile hotspot unavailable. You need a data plan on att network ect...." Clearly I'm not able to contact att to add a data plan when I dont have service with them in the first place. The only wat I can tether is using my pdanet app. I want to use the mobile hotspot icon? Can any1 help me please?
Yes, my friend had problem with hotspot on unlocked att but could not find the solution
Package Disabler Pro is $3 but after removing bloatware I am able to use hotspot on Cricket.
