Multitasking on 4.1 roms - Micromax A110

Hi guys.....im using 4.1.2 based grand v3 rom with thunderzap kernel. But the multitasking is very poor on this rom. Getting 70-90 mb free ram always.i am using gemini task killer and greenify. But all in vain. I tried 4.2 based roms...they have very good ram management..i used to get 150-160 free ram..but that roms have bugs...so i dont want to try it more.
So can any1 suggest me to how to get more free ram and make multitasking more easy....

Using Gemini task killer is a vain attempt to increase performance.
Because it will simply kill the background apps which will restart after 3-5 mins again. It will hence even result In an increased rate of battery drain.
Also android has in built task-killer processes, and I think that do their work efficiently.
Also no doubt that you will get more free ram on 4.2,but in terms of stability and performance 4.1 is still two step ahead.
Yes greenify is good option. Also you may use some scripts to get a pleasurable experience.
And yes.....
REST AND MOST DEPENDS ON USERS.

[Q] Low RAM?

Im not sure why but in the past week, my phone ram was was quite low. (30m - 45m) Before that, even after playing games and stuff, the ram was always above 55m. I have the go sms app, i have lookout running always and battery notifier (big text) to tell me my battery level. these were the apps that i downloaded just before the raam went low. oh and i only have 4 widgets running on my screen. (google search widget, power control widget (the one with options to toggle wifi, bluetooth etc etc on and off), a go taskmanager widget to show me how much ram i have and a music app widget) BTW im rooted running stock 2.1. Hope someone can help me!

must've been the services or processes running hidden in the background. there are some apps you can use to kill or stop them. but mainly i just use autokiller memory optimizer to modify android's default app killer to kill apps even when the ram is not very low(it kills apps when ram reaches a certain level). theres also a function in autokiller memory optimizer which allows you to kill processes. if you want more ram, you could use swap too, but it eats more battery, so i dont.
its a good app, and you dont have to use any task killers anymore. you can use the strict preset in the app if you want higher free ram. swap if you activate swap, you could go up to more than 100m free.

oh ya i forgot to mention i have already been using autokiller memory optimizer at strict level for a month already. yesterday i changed it to aggressive hoping that my ram would increase but to no avail.
then it'd be that you have to many processes running it in the background. see from autokiller memory optimizer. just tap to close. swap gives you a LOT of free ram also. but you have to be using a swap compatible rom of course, so stock but rooted, no. unless u are using the eclair strikes back rom. im also on stock singapore but rooted. average free ram now is around 50 and im underclocked running at 500mhz cos i wanna save battery. its still running smoothly. actually, i dont really care about how much free ram there is, if its smooth then its all right for me. is your phone running smoothly?

My suggestion would be to flash the stock Cincinnati bell sbf. I did that recently it is the most updated one from Motorola and is set at 720 MHz by default. I don't use anything and my ram is around 55-60. Smooth as hell. I use launcherpro. Its prettier, you can choose the keep in memory option which stops it from redrawing the screen. Mine is rooted. I get a day and half of battery life with wifi and autosync in 100% of the time, an hour of GPS, 1 hour gaming, one hour music and the odd texts or calls. Hope that helps. Nothing in my opinion beats stock 2.1

If you have 30m-45m ram and it didn't affect the performance of the phone, then nothing to worry....now if your rom is in the 2.1 stock, you have a problem especially in using camcorder due to low memory... my suggestion is to flash the 2.2 rom like wahhu rom, xda special or the cm6...My ram is in the range of 30m-60m and I'm using the wanhu rom and even the cm6 rom still the performance of the phone is great..... Actually there is something in the phone that eats the ram..... It is one of the reasons why there is a problem in porting the cm7.
P.S. Try to flash the original wanhu rom then apply the latest update of Mioze-update-SC_2.2_XT720_Beta3a-Mz05 and the dark froyo theme.....

Ya i remember last time i use camcorder my phone had frozen. I really want to stay on stock 2.1 cos it has no issues at all until recently the ram problem which was slowing the phone down a lot. even at 1ghz 66vsel and autokill memory optimizer at strict level its quite low ram.

If you are going to do it from scratch, I suggest you use the cincinnati bell sbf. I have had a very good experience with that. Root with universal androot 1.6.2 beta. After that install open recovery and youre set.

With everything stock, the RAM is 130MB or even less. In normal use, the RAM management of the stock ROMs is very bad. I get down to 50-70MB before it starts killing apps which results to lag.
The solution is simple but it involves rooting and/or installing custom ROMs. With the stock ROM just remove apps you don't need (there is a full list of the apps in a dedicated thread here). Or install a custom ROM (best for RAM management is CM7 but you will lose most of the 3D functionality).

mines 130~140 with 3 screens full of widgets all teh way from showing cpu clock, ram, internal sd, external sd, weather, text time app folders etc to xboxlive stats, facebook, opera favorites etc. Since it's o/c'd to 1.3ghz on acura v21D it's still quite fast.

[Q] Ram issues withICS

After updating from GB to ICS 4.0.4 using the official update my nexus has slowed down.Earlier available free RAM always used to be above 180 mb.

Hi...
Maybe u have to many app running in backround...
sent from my nexus s - xda
i checked on the running apps also
even if i close all the apps (except android keyboard which is taking 11mb) available free memory is 130-140 mb only.
That seems about right. I have about 140 free once everything has been set up(google voice always running). But you said the phone was running sluggishly. Have you installed any other apps that weren't on your phone before the update? My phone got the official OTA and was pretty fast even before I rooted it again. Last resort would be a factory reset.

I came from GB 2.3.6 and upgraded to ICS 4.0.3. (no root/mods)
With ICS 4.0.3 the average free RAM was around 70-90 MB. After demanding programs everything felt a little sluggish for a few moments. The biggest problem was the launcher (Nova) that often would redraw all the icons.
With the 4.0.4 (also stock) i had 80-90 MB free and everything ran noticeably smoother.
Then i rooted and flashed the Matr1x kernel. Now i typically got around 120-150 MB free.
stock rom are bad... i tip to flash mod rom... the best i think is cyberGR rom....
can anyone suggest some ways to free up more RAM to atleast 180-190mb
Get a ROM and kernel with bigmem support? I just flashed the latest matr1x kernel and constantly have over 180mb free. I don't really need all the extra RAM as my phone has never really bogged down.
130? I'm lucky to stay above 60mb free. No sluggishness though, and I use the stock launcher, and it doesn't redraw.

You need a custom rom. CM9 V6 works the best for this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399035
Basically when you install this. It just installs a new system which basically wipes all the useless crap you dont need on the stock rom. Also if that doesnt help. Try the free astro manager and its modules. It basically allows you to enter your phone data and SD card. And research on what to wipe and not to wipe.
Also if you dont mind. Wipe dalvik cache. It wipes your application data. I highly recommend you to research on wipe dalvik cache and cache.
is it possible that available free ram is less bcoz of cached apps.
GB didnt use cached apps unlike ICS
It is not particularly wise to draw far-reaching conclusions from the size of free RAM, in particular on Linux based systems.
Some used RAM can be anytime freed if necessary (cached/buffered/shared), otherwise it will enhance the general responsiveness of the system.
The Linux kernel manages RAM great, so you shouldn't worry about free RAM, unlike on Windows systems. If the system needs more RAM, Android will find the best possible way to produce it through removing really unneeded processes and services from RAM.
It can happen, that it seems you've got no free RAM, still the system is pretty responsive.

Having greater than 100 MB free is enough to create a smooth experience. Actually the more RAM your phone is using for recent apps, the better the experience is since your phone doesn't have to keep loading all of the app data into RAM. On the contrary, I would think the more RAM is used the less loading and therefore quicker app launching.
More RAM does not equate to a faster phone.

That said, if you're looking at the memory display in "Running processes" in the Android settings, memory used for file cache or by cached background processes counts as "free".
In my experience, ICS does tend to use more memory than Gingerbread, but not so much so that it's a problem. I do run with 64 MB swap, which makes no appreciable difference to speed either way, but reduces the number of launcher restarts.
I usually have 50 to 60 MB free. My phone is very smooth at all times.
Eat at Joe's
tooy and then under the development section is the stock rooted tom that has a performance mod to ti. I would then save that to the phone and then in clock work mod do a factory reset three times and then install the performance mod and it will be alot better.

About a ram booster advice

High ram is draining battery quickly thats why i always have to use the task manager which is coming with android . However i want to more succesfull apk which is also make it automatically . More important thing is my ram is about 550 mb always . If i open new apps it raises to between 800-1000mb . When i clean it from task manager it drops about 670 mb not to 550 mb which is also only seen after reboot. How about your ram datas ?
Thanks.

Ram runs at about 1v on the note. Nowhere near enough to kill a battery. I would suggest it's your aggressive use of an unneeded task manager that is killing your battery.
Also please educate yourself on how android utilizes ram, as you are going out of your way to cause issues for androids built in resource management system. 1.4GB of free ram is a total waste.

the reason it isn't draining as fast when you have all that free memory is because you've killed the app that is draining your battery. you need to isolate the application and possibly remove it.

I have had to answer this and similar questions a million times... DO NOT USE TASK KILLERS!! THEY KILL APPS THAT WILL JUST RESPAWN ANYWAY! the apps you close will just reopen and ramp up the CPU clock causing battery drain. Android isn't like windows, apps in ram are put into hibernation when nor in use and the ram barely uses any power anyway. A rogue app is causing your system to not go into idle mode more than likely and so the CPU isn't sleeping. Also what is you're average battery life? Screen uses a ton of battery also.
Edit: ps , android holds the last used apps in ram in hibernation so that when you need to reopen it it takes less CPU and less power top open it. When it needs ram for a task it will kill off the app that's been hibernating the longest to free up what Oort needs on it's own, you don't have to do it foot the system the system had it handled. You will only cause issues using task killers. The cyanogen team had covered this before

When a segment of RAM is not in use, it does not power down, nor does it use any less energy at all. Whether you are utilising 10% or 100% of physical RAM, the power draw is identical.
If battery use improves after you kill an app, it is probably because of the CPU that the app used. It is certainly not because of the memory.
In your "Battery" settings in your device you can see how much energy each app has used since you went to battery power. There you can see if an app has been "keeping awake" the CPU, or using a lot of the CPU's time.
Then, report and/or uninstall that app.
Don't use task managers to free up memory, Android is much better at handling memory itself. Freeing up memory using a task manager simply means the next time you need to use an app you'll have to load it again from flash storage which may even take up more energy - but not enough to make a difference. Mostly it'll just slow down app launches.

[Q] Xperia J poor perfomance

So... My J performs a little... bad. Most likely that I got that retarded faulty one. My RAM is never above 150mb free, mostly around 100mb. Antutu benchmark was around 4000 if I remeber correctly. Games are not performing well (and I'm not talking about über games). FreeCiv crashes quite often, probably because lack of RAM. Etc. Is it known to be like that? I'm all stock and JB. Would CM10 help me? And also, what is that actually? What does it change?
Thank you.
CM10 will help, i think that. For me, help a lot, just try, i will never back on stock, its my opinion. Try the new version FXP220 for J.
Games like Ravensword2 or other 3D working well.
I'm running stock JB and root my phone, then delete some useless applications like Facebook, Timescapes etc. Now my phone running fast & smooth, I've use cm10 for sometimes but its not as smooth as stock rom, and my first concern is the camera quality,
Stock rom has like 10x better quality.
Also stock rom has better battery performance.
not trying to have negative tendency to CM10 or something, but its just a comparison based on my experience.

first of all think of what you want from your phone and then decide
If u want smoothness in your ui and overall performance root you phone and deleted some unwanted bloatware system apps
if u don't care about smoothness but favour performance go with cynaogen mod as its a minimal ui and much better performance...
PS cyanogenmod is just stock pure android with lot of customization options from overclocks to performance tweaks

I would suggest if ur a newbie to root and stuff u root and delete bloarware apps and see the performance if ur not satisfied flash custom rom like cyanogenmod and then if still not happy then play with scripts like v6 as scripts are bit complex

That's not totally right a percentage of ram is set aside for user apps and games which are never cached by the system so the free ram is needed and heavy games need a lot of free ram to run propperly. Evan cached system processes are killed after 30 minutes by android by default so free ram will change up & down as its killing processes just to restart them again the system is wasting ram. Zepplinrox's v6 supercharger changes this as one of it's features from 30 minutes to 24 hours so the system uses less ram and has more free ram for user apps and games.
Running the scripts is not rocket science there really easy read the original thread if that seems intimidating then read the noob tutorial which goes through step by step.
