[Q] Make Hangout recognize international number format - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i got my Nexus 5 i restored all my sms from my old phone (about 20 threads).
when i opened hangout, about half of the threads were matched with the contacts, the other half wasnt
problem seems to be the following: almost all my contact numbers are of the form "079 123 45 67"
The (unknown) numbers that hangout displays is "+41 79 123 45 67" (no 0).
Somehow the app cant match those two. With the stock sms app i used to have on my HOX+ (CM 10.2) i didnt have that kind of problem
has anyone encountered a similiar issue and found a solution?
I dont want to save the same number in two different formats for every contact

There's no need to store two numbers for each contact. You can store all your numbers with the international area code ( = full, complete number) , or at least just the more relevant numbers to you.
I started to save "+39" in front of each number as a habit many years ago, since in pre-smartphone era you HAD to do so, otherwise your phone could not match the incoming caller with numbers in your phonebook.

Contacts not recognized while calling

Hello!
I have quite a strange problem. It appeared after I updated my Polaris to Windows 6.1 and the radio to the newest one. In general, I am really satisfied with the new sys, however there is one problem: telephone calls are not recognized basing on the contact list (which I imported using sprite backup).
It means that even though I have e.g. PersonX with telephone number 1234567 in my contacts, when I receive a call from him there appears the telephone number only (it is not changed into the "PersonX"). Have any of you ever had such a situation? I would be grateful for any suggestions how to solve it...
Best regards,
Theriel
Do You have only one contact with the same number? Not doubled - one in Phonebook and second with the same number on SIM?
Or if you have same contact under different names with the some number two or more times...
Joe Pesci with number +1-555-5555 and
Joe's house with number +1-555-555 and
Pesci, Joe with number +1-555-555
will confuse any mobile phone, and device will write only number. Check toroughly your contacts for duplicate numbers...
Nope, they are not doubled, and there are no contacts on the SIM. There is however another difference that appeared (I do not know if it has anything to do with the problem but...): previously I had all the contacts in the form:
"Johnson, Mike".
Now I have everything in the form "Johnson Mike" - there is no comma. But I am not sure if it tells you anything (maybe just a cosmetic change between roms?)
What is interesting - I can normally call using the contacts list (even from the "Phone" window) - they appear there properly.

Contacts name not appearing on screen

Hi everyone,
Really hoping someone can help me. Just got the Touch Pro a few weeks ago and been having problems... Most problems I can deal with after spending half hour with my good friend Google (we go waaaay back ). But this one has me stumped.
My contacts: if I store the number with the international code, i.e. as +447852******, when I get a call from the number, it shows the number on the screen but not the name. It shows in the national format, i.e. as 07852******.
So I thought, "Ah, I've got it!" and I changed the number of my test contact from +447852****** to 07852******. And when I received a call, the name came up on the screen!
But then I got a text from the number... And as you might have guessed, the name didn't come up, but the number did, as +447852******.
Ergo, I have to save two numbers in the contacts if I want it to show both when being called and when receiving texts - one in +44 format and one in 0 format.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Opps. Someone already started a thread about this... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503268) I'm sorry!
But it seems they had no luck in finding a solution. That's three people with the same problem. Any ideas?
Well known problem on many branded Touch Pro's

[Q] A contact bug on 2.2 froyo.

Hi, I just realized there is a minor bug with android contacts.
Chinese mobile phone number, no matter whether it is wcdma, cdma, cdma2000 or gsm, are consisted of 11 digits. If I have two contacts with last 8 digits identical, then no matter I am calling out or receiving calls, the name appears on the screen were exactly the same despite the first 3 digits are different.
Making an example, if person A's mobile number is 13912345678 (number begins with 13 is a typical GSM number) and saved in my contacts, and I am calling 18912345678 (which is a WCDMA number), person A's number will appears on screen instead of the name of the latter.
Furthermore, if you click person A's name in your address book, a notification will pops out saying that you have two people having the same number and suggest you to merge these two guys.
Based on discussion from Chinese android forums, an guess of the theory behind this phenomenon is the phone only distinguish people from their last 8 digits of their numbers. Therefore, the address book might works fine within those countries who have less than 8 digits for their mobile numbers, but this cause troubles for people who have a number that is more than eight digits.
Anyone have idea how to fix this?
Cheers,
and by the way, please excuse my poor English

[Q] International Dialing

Having searched this and various other forums I'll see if anyone here can help on this item. I've been using WM devices and XDA for many years and have now had to switch to a Droid 2 Global on Verizon due to work rather than choice. For over ten years I have entered my outlook contacts in the format +XX (YYY) ZZZ-ZZZZ where obviously, XX=country code.
When I dial by contact on the droid it fails and tells me the number is disconnected etc.
If I manually enter the number using this format with the "+" sign into the dialer then it switched the "+" to "011" and dials successfully.
If I create the contact on my phone and enter the "+" sign in the phone number it seems to automatically create a second number entry as "011" as well so it then dials successfully.
The odd part is several colleagues seem to be able to use their existing outlook contacts in the same format successfully.
I have tried switching on and off the assisted dialing and it doe snot seem to make any difference, calls still fail to go through.
I am using a D2G with a stock (but rooted) ROM
System 2.4.330.A956.Verizon.en.US
Android 2.2
Baseband N_01.48.05R
Apologies if I have missed something obvious, I know my way around WM but this is all new. Thanks in advance for any help.
I had a couple of issues with telephone number formats, installing the "More Locale 2" app (available on the market) seemed to fix them.
Mine was more a presentation issue though, I'm not sure if it will solve your dialer problem but it's worth a try.

Problem in pulling up contacts by dialling numbers only pulls up by name....

I have installed cm 14.1 recently and the problem am facing is that whenever I try to dial any unknown number from call history it never show up. Actually it never pulls up contacts from dialling number I can only or have to type name, if contact is saved. Else, have to scroll through the whole list to look for the number. I tried everything almost but failed to fix. This is the same issue with my friend using Lineage 14.1 on redminote 3. Suppose I got a call from some unknown number 2-3 days ago and I remember that there was 567 in that number and when I try to dial it won't come up. It only looks for saved numbers. I have also tried all the dialers and there is some else going on.
