I'm planning to buy Xperia L sometime later, I was just wondering some ROMs here do not require CWM to install? Like Clean and Tweaked
Oh and will Vengeance Kernel work with clean and tweaked ROM thanks alot!

As of now Rom's need to be installed via PC and not ClockWorkMod ...
And Yes, the Vengeance Kernel should work on both Rom's since currently all the Kernels as well as Roms are completely based on STOCK .
Hope that clears your doubts .

first i gotta install the kernel or rom?

hey guys 2 days ago i just bought HTC sensation and its an amazing phone!but i have a question...i flashed my phone to S-OFF and modifed recovery..
so ihave seen lots of roms to download with kernels but the thing is first i gotta install the rom itself and then kernel?or first i gotta install the kernel and then the rom?
thanks!
ROM then Kernel, reason being is the kernel comes bundled with the ROM. That being said, flashing a kernel isn't necessary. You can try them out and see which one you like best, but usually the best kernel for a ROM is the one that was made for it.
thanks buddy!

[Q] Best kernel to go with Android Revolution HD 3.2.1?

I'm not terribly good with kernels, and the only thing I understand is that if I have a custom one, I can overclock on SetCPU and do a few other things. I have ARHD 3.2.1 right now, but I don't know how kernels really work.
Sorry if this is a bit of a nooby question, but I am a noob C:
Thank You.
Try TastyMeh (in my signature)
Or Guevors test kernel (dev forum)
Both are similar, have awesome fixes, and oc to 1.7Ghz
You just got to try them out. Every unit is different so what may work for me might not work for you. +1 for guevors. 11b tends to still work best for most people.
Sorry for abusing this thread for a noobish question.
I was on stock ICS, rooted and installed guevor's test13 kernel for a while. Then switched to test15.
Yesterday I downloaded Full Wipe Script and Revolution ROM from dev thread, and used them:
1. Full Wipe
2. Install Revolution
My questions are ...
* Which kernel do I have now?
* Did the ROM installation change the kernel to the one that is included with the ROM?
* Maybe the ROM doesn't include a kernel, so I am still on test15?
BTW, I already checked on system info but I wasn't able to extract any useful info from that. I think that now I am using whatever kernel Revolution includes, but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance.

It will be the stock kernel that comes with the rom. Flash the test kernel again if you want it.

Thank you very much. I'll keep the stock Revolution kernel for a while.

[Q] help : installing cwm recovery without flashing any kernel

Hi can anyone help me in installing cwm recovery in c2104 without flashing thunderzap, phantom or any other kernel?
My device is entirely rooted with an unlocked bootloader _
I don't know if this will work, but search xparts in the play store, it is an app for flashing xperia recoveries. Idk if it supports L though. But worth a try. Or just download a recovery from ROM manager. Also found in the play store.
Sent from my ST18i
Nothing different between flashing kernels or installing recovery. Flashing kernel is way easier and faster so I would just flash this instead going around and bothering with recovery instalation.

Thank you replying, actually i wanted to flash a couple of tweaks by using cwm_but it looks like now i really have to install a kernel_i have tried both phantom and thunderzap kernels before, phantom was laggy, and games were taking a lot of time in loading on the other hand thunderzap was pretty good but it consumed a lot of battery even when i was using the max frquency at 1ghz only_can you suggest me which kernel to install then, and if it is thunderzap what should be the cpu configuration?

I'm using Extended Stock kernel by @Rachit Rawat
It's pretty solid, games like GTA SA & Minecraft run smooth.
I didn't overclock my phone, only debloated & rooted

There are HUGE differences between flashing custom Kernels and installing Recoveries Do make some research before giving others a false info :victory:

[Q] why need to update with Karnel and what is OC ??

Right now I am android 4.1.1 and now I am going to update a ROM which is of 4.2.x but in every thread I have seen that first flash with kernel. Why we need to flash with karnel . In earlier many tym I have flashed many different ROMs but I never flash any kernel and without flashing kernel my ROMs are working fine in my device so why we need to flash kernel and what is OC mean over clock?? Thanks in advance..
You need to flash 4.2.x kernel so that your device runs according to rom. Kernels are like brains. They control how your device works. Si flash an appropriate 4.2.x kernel when you flash a 4.2 rom. And yes OC means overcloak. It basically is a process of increasing your processor speed more than usual. Lets say if your processor is 1ghz, you overcloak it to 1.2 ghz. OC may speed your device, but it also creates heating problem and battery drainage quick. Hit thanks if i helped.

Thanks. I found the kernel and updated it. Suvi ROM is working fine after this without issues. Free RAM is mostly above 200MB

I have used AVD 1.6 for almost 1.5 year .. just bought Redmi for primary use..
tried many roms and kernel
Right now my XJ is on riches kernel .6.03 and Alien ROM 4.1 .
CPU overclocked to 1.5Gz .. and still battery goes for 4-5 days on moderate use. needless to say ROM is buttery smooth + no bloatware + both cwm and TWRP recoveries in kernel.
have 32G SD card, install onandroid backup and feel freedoms like never before.

I agree with you, i tried almost all roms on XJ. But I keep going back to alienrom.
But if looking for best UI, seraphic is the best.

I havnt seen any OC statement in Changelog of Vengeance http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-j-e/orig-development/kernel-vengeance-t2134810
If you mean Vengeance reloaded .... that kernel doesn't work in XJ and thread is paused / abandoned.
I willl have to search for Intuisy though. .. never see people posting about it for XJ.. thanks ..

+ Simple kernel (1.7) support OC. I dont like vengeance because of microphone problem, while you listen to music and if somebody call,he cant hear you talking, until you reboot phone! Intuisy is great, but I dont like intuisy logo, i like Sony official. So "Simple kernel" is the best choose for me. It's fast,it has overclock + standard features
