This procedure is the simpliest way to get CWM on your phone. And by the way you get Voodoo Lagfix installed so it's cool.
I assume you have Samsung USB drivers installed but If you don't you just have to get Kies installed on your computer.
To make this short and sweet, you gonna need those files :
ODIN
http://d-h.st/gU0
Entropy's Daily driver kernel with Red CWM
http://d-h.st/TCp
Once you get those files, extract them and run the ODIN executable file in Administrator mode. You have to put your phone in download mode now. Have your phone completely shutdown, hold the vol + button and plug your USB cord in your computer. Normally, your phone will ask you to continue to download mode and you'll see a yellow box appear in odin. It will shows like this "COMxx" (x's are for the com number ). Then you just have to click on the PDA box in ODIN and choose the file you get from Entropy. Click on start and let the magic begins. Your phone will reboot after the process. It will stick on Samsung logo and you will hear the female robot voice tellilng you that voodoo lagfix and RED CWM is flashed on your phone. Once done it will reboot again and that's it you're done.
To get in CWM the procedure is simple, phone completely shutdown, hold the vol + and vol - buttons and press your power button. (hold the volume buttons once he's started) you will get in CWM in no time

I believe you can install it by rom manager

Yes, you will need a Kernel with Red CWM.
This can be achieved using The Heimdall One Click package with Entropy's DD Kernel. Post courtesy of qkster.

Kernel info starts at post 2 but definitely read post one as well.
OR
Read Zen Arcade's post about flashing one of his kernels with the SGS Kernel Flasher. This info is in post 1.

hi, if you still have this phone, flash this (link below) with odin 1.70, it is stock deodexed android gingerbread with root and CWM. after it flashes, let it boot and install some features, if phone starts speaking some things, don't worry, let it do it's thing and after it fully starts up, you should be running android gingerbread and cwm should be installed, so you can flash other roms.

SGS 4G won't boot up

I got a little happy last night and tried tinkering with my SGS, and ended up causing it not to boot up. It currently just sits at the Samsung Galaxy S 4G logo screen, so now I'm just trying to go back to stock and start over.
I do not have odin (still not really sure what it is), but I do have CWM and I've wanted to flash this rom; but towards the end of the thread, some users say not to flash this and to use some other rom with odin instead.
Also, this rom won't even flash in CWM. It just says "installation aborted."
Thanks
I just tried flashing this with Odin, using these instructions, and I just got the bricked screen......
Can someone please help me.
recover a nandroid backup...
If you can't figure out Odin, but can boot into recovery, reinstall packages to get into CWM. Then you can restore to your last nandroid backup.
I can no longer boot into recovery or download. I'm stuck at the screen with the phone and computer with the yellow triangle in between. Odin still recognizes my phone when I plug it in (I think), but that's it. Also, I don't understand what there is to "figure out" about odin anyway. I followed the directions exactly, and the flash simply failed in Odin and when I rebooted, I got stuck at the bricked screen.
Looks like a trip to T-Mobile is in order...

YOU DID NOT BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!!!
when i pulled the cord on my phone during download mode and odin it gave me the same screen as you
THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT ITS BRICKED
your computer will still recognize your phone and SO WILL ODIN!
that screen is basically another download mode
heres what you do:
download whitehawkx kd1 deodexed
go into download mode like you normally would and plug the phone in
you will notice that odin still recognizes your phone
in odin ONLY press the PDA option and then choose whitehawkx PDA_KD1 file
flash and wait for reset.... then BAM your phone has the new kd1 rom and its not bricked
i promise you the screen your getting doesnt mean a brick, ive seen that screen like 10 times throughout my flashing days
^ omfg man, you seriously just saved my entire Sunday. I have no idea why it didn't work like this when I first tried it, I literally went through the same steps.
Thank you so much.

yea you need:
Odin
any sgs4g rom like whitehawkx kd1 deodexed
take your battery out, put it back in and hold both the up and down volume buttons, then while holding them down plug your phone into your computer via usb and you will enter DOWNLOAD MODE from there you open odin on your computer and click only the PDA option look for the whitehawkx pda_kd1 file you downloaded and click start
that should fix it
Biggggggggggg Thanks

Flash it with one of the options you've been linked to by Kyndig. The first two are for Odin the last for Heimdall. That's an alternate DL mode your looking at. It still works the same.

Restore to Stock "FAIL"

Hey Guys...
I Have a Concern that I would Like Help with... I am Trying to Install / Restore My Friends Galaxy S 4G to Stock but Once I get Past the FactoryFS and Etc I Get a Fail When it's Time to Write (which is what it states)
Now, I'm a Dev Assistant and a Tester So I Know How to Get Around but Samsung is a bit Harder as it Needs to Be Done via Odin
Any Info on to What Might be Causing this or as to What I Can do to help him resolve this... Every time I Try to Turn on the Phone Now I get the Recovery Menu... I Guess Since Odin was Unsuccessful @ the Writing Point?
I'm Sorry but I'm Lost Here... Thanks In Advance for the Help!
There is a thread up top labelled noobs guide to flashing. It has the stock rom link available.
You will need to run Odin before next step.
You will put the phone into download mode.
Do this by holding down the power up and power down button as you plug in the usb cable.
Your phone should recognize ODIN.
Follow the steps in the Noobs guide to flashing on how to load the files into ODIN.
It is very simple because you dont change any settings in ODIN. You leave it how it is and it really makes flashing back to stock pretty easy
Let me know if you have any questions.

Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
So I actually have a similar problem but I get a FAIL every time I go through the process. Here is what I have tried:
1) Tried to root with ODIN and sent my phone into an endless boot with funky colored dots after boot screen. Apparently i failed.
2) Tried flashing with ODIN KD1 deodexed rom referenced in another xda thread about how to unbrick a galaxy s 4g. This quickly sent up the FAIL box in red in ODIN and then my phone was solidy bricked -> black screen with an arrow from a cell phone to a computer.
3) Used the One-click unbrick tool here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252#post15330252
4) This one-click too solved my black screen problem but now i'm back to the endless boot. I can still enter into download mode but not recovery.
I have been working on this all day without any luck, so I hope someone is willing to help. Thanks

You will not need to enter recovery only download so that is ok.
Make sure you have the correct drivers for your phone installed on your computer. Also make sure you have ODIN running before you enter download mode.
I have had instances in the past where I had to reinstall ODIN and restart my computer before it would flash as well.
Let me know if you have any questions or need to know what files I use.
So I think I have the correct drivers installed on my computer but I could be wrong I suppose. The computer seems to recognize my phone fine so I think it's OK. Is there anyway to double check this?
I'm also not sure if I'm using the proper rom for flashing in ODIN. Thanks for offering to help.

If it is recognizing the phone it should be alright.
I would personally use [ROM-ODIN]T959VUVKB5 Stock + Root which can be found in ALL ROMS thread in dev section.
Once you have it downloaded take all the previously mentioned steps.
Run Odin... download mode.... etc.
Dont change any of ODINS settings.
Go down Odins list and upload the files to the correlating places. If it does not work PM me and we will figure out whats happening.
Trying this now. Thank you so much for your help.

KB5 is good, but i would recommend raver's KC1. it will clean up all problems that have accumulated from the bad flashes.
So I already flashed KB5. I would like to upgrade the phone to 2.3.5 if possible now, or is this a bad idea with all the bad flashes?

So I did a little more homework and it appears that I need to flash something like KG4 through ODIN? Once I have done this I can flash Valhalla, which appears to be the most popular/stable release.
just search for fbis251's GB start pack. that is all you need to follow. read the whole op first before doing anything.

[Q] Can't get blue recovery screen to load up

I have been running on the gb 2.3.3 rom (rooted) that I have flashed using odin back in summer and now decided to do some more upgrading . So I found a new rom that was very intriguing to me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145 After doing some research I realized I needed to do a different type of flashing (cwm?), and not through odin. So I downloaded root explorer into my phone and followed the procedures in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122508 but every time I try to put my phone in the recovery mode (holding volume up + down + power) it wouldn't go into the blue screen. Instead, it would just restart, and restart, etc.. Any suggestions? Do I need to do something with the kernels?
p.s.hahah after messing around and looking through forums all day, I got a little impatient and flashed gb 2.3.6 using odin in the mean time

Try this.
Basically do what youre doing but instead of keeping on holding to it, hold on to Volup+voldown+power for 2 reboots, then on the 3rd reboot, the gs4g screen in the beginning lights up a slight lighter than usual. Let go of the power button, See if this works.

This thread says the original GB rom changed the key mapping. Any ideas on where I can find a fix. I think thats what happened to me.
hmm I'm still relativley new to this kind of stuff as well, so the only route I know that you can do that will most likley fix the problem is to odin to a newer rom, perhaps the one I have linked above, then odin the kernal as well to get it rooted and follow the guide on how to do it if you're confused. Then turn off your phone, hold (volume up + volume down + power), screen should boot up then dissapear, boot up again, then disappear, and on the third boot up, just release the power button but continue holding on to the volume up + volume down buttons and just wait. The cwm screen should come up from what I experienced on two different sgs4g's. Hope that helps somewhat lol. I'm sure there might be a easier way to just fix the key mapping but I'm not to sure on how to do it. gl
I just verified that method works for me as well. I'm lazy, though, and downloaded Quick Boot from the app store as it lets you boot into recovery or download mode. Less fuss.

HELP! Did I just make my phone a $600 brick??

Probably true or at least I should have done my homework first.
we all learn somewhere. funny how thought of a brick gets people researching more than they normally would, right? lol, all been there
Upgrade your recovery from cwm touch to cwm 6.whatever.it.is. Cwm touch is buggy. I don't know how exactly you do that if it's not booting to the rom but maybe this can help point you down the right path.

Downside of all the one click this and one click that. You should be required to root at least once using odin and adb before having access to the one click tools as you may end up needing those down the road.
Ok guys I got my phone back up and running! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/good.gif Thanks for the help! However the bloatware that popped up right away is about enough to make me risk flashing 4.1 again.

If you really don't wanna take the risk you can just delete it all with Titanium Backup. But hey, if you really want to, go right ahead. Just do a little more research before you jump in. We've all been there, though, so don't feel stupid.

[Q] Samsung Infuse 4g Stuck in Bootloop after Root

I updated the phones ROM and rooted it perfectly. In the process of the newest rom update, while in Clockword recovery mode - wipe data was accidentally selected, in the middle of the data wipe I tried to save the phone by removing battery. Now its stuck in bootloop, Recovery mode doesn't even come up, but I succeeded in getting the phone into Download Mode, but it has the Triangle up with CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES(2 COUNTS) and CURRENT BINARY :CUSTOM. I have used Odin to try to install the Stock Att version, still no luck. as of now the phone is bricked, and can only get it into download mode. Can somebody please help? Ill die if I can't fix this phone, and Just so you know, I don't have a USB jig to delete the custom binary files. Is that the only way I can get the phone to actually turn on and function? Help plz Im freakin here...

After flashing to factory rom I get this error message: E:failed to mount /dbdata (File exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /dbdata your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for forma and reboot actions.
Try using heimdall, go to download mode with that triangle.

if u don't now what to download here's my 2 links, using heimdall flash stock then flash kernel.
The kernel will give u root and recovery (faster way of rooting )

Thank you so much, my phone is working now. I just have to find a way to reset the binary download count(get rid of the yellow triangle) without purchasing a USB jig. Any suggestions? Im trying to update firmware to ICS and then Jelly bean. I tried flashing it to a newer version(ics), but then the phone goes back into bootloop (i think bc of flashing it to ics, then jelly bean, and then back to a rooted stock verison), so I have to keep using the rooted stock firmware. Any suggestions? Thank you btw

Getting to download mode is all the USB jig does. U can get it with out one. I believe if u hold down volume and plug in cable. Its something like that I forget. And a return to stock using heimdall or Odin should fix anything

im having troubles too!!
i have a similar problem myself. I rooted my infuse it has cwm9 and ics. but for some reason the phone cuts off and starts boot looping. i cant get it in download mode or recovery. took the battery out put it back in and its starts doing it without touching the power button. ive beat and banged on it still nothing but the loop. this is the longest it has done it, usually it would quit after a few minutes but its going on 24 hours now. any help would be awesome!!!
Try holding the volume up and the volume down (but not the power button) with the USB plug already in the phone and hooked up to the computer and then insert the battery. If you don't get into download then you either need a jig or have a power button problem.

Can get into download mode,
I am able to get into download mode, Ive flashed the OS a number of times back to stalk, then tried ICS, and jelly bean, and I still get the same error message I got at the beginning of this post. But I was able to reset the Binary counter, if I could get my phone to work again I would literally pay somebody to help me....I know it is possible to get it back up and running, it's just a complicated process it seems. Help please!
Chainfire had a program called Triangle Away. Do a search but be careful, it might not work with Infuse and you could get a real brick.

i have bricked my infuse many times, and xda members always have been helpful to me
i am now that the point of believing that my infuse is un-brick-able, so I am writing down my instruction as a noob for you
A/ Preparation in your computer:
1. Install/Update Java (http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp) and Get the driver for the Samsung ready (download and install Kies software at http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I997ZKAATT)
2. download Heimdall One-Click Back-To-Stock UCKJ4 + Easy CWM install at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381 (maybe put it right there in the desktop)
3. Download SGH_I997 Entropy 4_4_2012-One-Click-Heimdall.jar (maybe put it right there in the desktop)
4. Download: CM-9-20120620 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844
5. Download: CWM-community-kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119598
6. Download a rom and gapps ( i use the AvatarROM and Gapps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174227)
*connect your phone to the computer and copy and paste the 4, 5, 6 items into your sd card
* i am not so sure where you are at, but maybe you don't need flash the cm-9
what you need to do:
a. pull out the battery, put it back on, holding down both the volume buttons while plug in the use cord, the other end of the usb already plug in the computer, that would put you to the download mode
b. by now your computer would be noticing the phone is connected, you then click the Heimdall at 2 above to turn it on (read that thread so you can know what to expect) if you have the drive and the phone is really connected, then, you can click "flash" and the Heimdall will do it job - don't do anything the phone will be rebooting itself back to stock (in the thread, the dev. said you might need to flash two times, but in my case, I only did once and it worked right away)
c. be happy with result for a while, then you put the phone back to download mode and flash the Entropy Heimdall at 3 above, your phone will get the red recovery if things go the way it should
d. then you wipe everything (maybe no need but whatever... after bricking your phone, it doesn't hurt to spend a min. to do this), 2 wipes at the main red recovery and then go to advance and wipe advik catch and battery state .. i would do every wipe 2 times ... and also select the "fix permissions" in there too
e. then you flash the cwm community kernel at (5) assuming that you already put it in the sd card of your phone (if not, then you choose the option from the the red recovery "connect as usb drive, your computer wil read the phone and allow you to copy and paste - i must say here that I tried this step a few times in order to make it work, i even reboot my computer)
then you flash the ROM and Gapps that you want to (assuming that you already put them in the sd card of the phone)
if jellybean didn't go through then maybe you should try the cm-9 first ...
be patient, very patient if things to the way it should, your phone will reboot a few times and recovery will change its color ... and you will get to the ROM you want
while you are waiting for those reboots, take time to read at least the first 3 pages of the threads that I put the links above to learn about the problems and what to expect
don't panic very much it will led to bad decision
your phone will be fine as XDA dev. have spent a great deal of time, energy, thoughts on the infuse
once again, hope you understand my noob instruction and esl writing
you phone will be working again
Thanks but I didn't needed these. I may not be a pro but definitely not a noob. I was only responding to the previous comment.
