I'll pay $50 to get root and another $50 for bootloader. Let's start a bounty!
I would happily put $25 to it as i'm really missing my root on this phone :crying:
EDIT: 9.30 when did that one come out. I'm on 9.18.94
i have root it

There are 2 different but the same builds for the latest ota, the one you are on and 9.30. Just depends on which one you were on, to determine which one you moved to. This isn't the first ota that's been like that.
The devs have reported, they can find no noticeable difference from one to the other, that's why you will only find one build on sbf-dev.
Tappin G2 Style
Lazy box... I read your post on droidrzr.com. of course you can root on an unlocked boot loader. Some of us have received warranty replacement phones that VZW have on the latest ota. So as it stands right now that means no unlock and no root.
I will throw in $10 on the bounty.

I will throw $20 into the pot. Got one from Ebay but already with the fixed OTA...
I good to throw in 20.00
I'll pledge too
I'll pledge $30 to a bootloader unlock bounty and $20 to a new root exploit bounty. And I'll make an equal donation to xdadevelopers.
I had a XT926M on 9.16.6 and dropped it while traveling. Sent it for repair (screen broken, otherwise worked fine). The service center essentially lost my phone. They replaced it with a brand new XT926M on 9.20.1. I have frozen the updater and I would, once again, like to have the insurance an unlooked boot loader offers for maintaining root into the future.
I'll throw $25 in. I really like this phone but it's almost worthless to me now that it's un-rootable. Wish I knew how to help figure out how to find an exploit
I just update everyone bounties on the bounty forum that I create and it has the total dollars as well.

Well I really hope that what someone told me in the past that jcase would have an exploit by the Summer, is true. Because I accidently bricked my phone months ago and screwed me back to 4.4 KiKat non-rooted. I just hope someone out there is working on finding another exploit.

Probably the someone. I know it was just a tweet, so maybe he was joking, but jcase tweeted about a month ago that he will no longer be providing anybody with any *unpatched* exploits. Based on the way people complain about him not "sharing" any exploits he has, I don't blame him. Anyway, I'd pin my hopes on somebody else.
Or, better yet, put the phone up on Swappa or something and go out and buy a developer edition of something, because that's your surest bet that you'll be able to root a phone going forward.

So your saying jcase probably has an exploit or two but he just doesn't want to release it to the public? Lol. That's messed up! I guess its just a waiting game until somebody else out there puts out an exploit for us non-rooters to use. *sigh* :/
P.S. : What do you mean you don't blame him???

I didn't say he had any exploits. I reported what he tweeted: he will not share any unpatched exploits. That means, I am pretty sure, that if he has any exploits (for any phones), he will wait until they are patched with an update before he shares it publicly, if he shares it at all, making it rather useless for somebody looking to root the phone with the exploit.
Here is the tweet: https://twitter.com/TeamAndIRC/status/460157450318929920
I am pretty sure it was in reference to a non-Moto device, but I'm sure he means the same for any device.
OK, here's a perfect example. Read this whole Twitter conversation between Jcase and some tool who thinks he's entitled to a root exploit.

Seems like pure stubbornness to me.
Hey, look, because of the 4.4.3 update, Jcase ended up releasing the root exploit after all. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53129908&postcount=248
...As I'm sure many others like me will visit this forum, read guide disclaimers, and still ask themselves "is it really true??"
If we accept the latest OTA (186.43.15) WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader, we are screwed. There is absolutely, positively, nothing that can be done (hacking, version rollback, etc.) with the phone forever. The bootloader has been locked and we're stuck with what we've got. No way to unlock it now.
So, is it really true? Please say it ain't so.
Yes, it is true, at least with the Motopocalypse method. There are other ways to bootloader unlock phones such as Sunshine, but I think that only supports newer Motorola devices.
http://theroot.ninja/
Also, you have to be rooted. If Towelroot doesn't work on the latest OTA (no idea if it does or not) then you'd have to wait for a new exploit.
Thanks for the reply.
What's most frustrating about this is that I knew it was coming, I knew the bootloader was going to be locked by the next OTA but I was too nervous to unlock the bootloader and possibly brick my wifes phone in the process. She would be pissed.
The system update notifier kept bugging her and I kept telling her to not to do it and eventually she just she went ahead with it. Ugh.

Forget another bootloader unlock exploit. That was a once-in-a-lifetime chance. As for root, well, there might be, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Of course, that's what we all said when the first KK OTA came out and look what they gave us - Towelroot AND bootloader unlock, but the bootloader unlock was a mistake - they accidentally reverted part of the code back to the original exploit code. So, that was a mistake on Moto's part.
But, this latest OTA is the last OTA for this phone. No more updates from Moto so don't expect the bootloader exploit to show up again.

That's what I was afraid of. Same thing happened on my Droid X once updated to the last build of 2.3.4
I guess the bottom line is this: I don't care that much about the final KK build as much as I care about wifi hotspot tethering. That's really what I'm after. After her phone was updated to KK from JB it killed the tethering app that we were using. So my only recourse was to flash the phone back to JB. But I just didn't have the time to mess with it, plus it's my wife's phone and I didn't want to risk bricking it.
Near as I can tell, after quite a bit of searching, I don't have any way to fix tethering with this latest build. I'll ask the question in the Q&A section.

Exactly what version of KK is she on? If she's still on 183.46.10, then that allows the bootloader to be unlocked which will then allow you to root it and then apply a tethering hack.
If, however, you are on 183.46.14 or 183.46.15, then yes, you are hosed and cannot revert back to 183.46.10 or JB.

She actually hasn't been happy with her XT926, so I think I might just buy a used phone of the same generation and mod it. If successful, we'll just swap the hacked one onto her account. I'm thinking Galaxy S3? I'd be curious to know what the "most hackable" phone of that generation is (JB or early KK)? Or should I post that question in the XDA General? I've searched and haven't found that question asked.

And for everyone complaining about the cost of Sunshine,JUST BITE THE BULLET N DO IT! IT'S WELL WORTH IT! IF YOU'RE ON A HIGHER FIRMWARE,your Gonna spend more than$25 worth of man hours TRYING (almost positively unsuccessfully) to find a free way, and most of the free routes died with the older firmware. JCase n Beaups have done a great job,and once u use sunshine on your device,no OTA can take away S-off or an unlocked boot loader ,they may kill root, but as long as your s-off ,that's an easy fix. So to save yourself future aggrevation ,just get it now while u STILL CAN

I am completely psyched for this!! I passed on a galaxy s6 just so I could still use my microsd card from my htc one remix, and I passed on a g4 for the fingerprint scanner so this is awesome news for this device, I would love to use cyanogenmod on here and its a definite positive knowing that once this is released, I can use marshmallow before its official ota release too! Plus the chance of this phone becoming dead in the forums will be slim to nothing once this is released, this is absolutely amazing news in my opinion. I don't care if they charge to unlock the bootloader or not, I'll be one of the first too pay to get mine unlocked and then I can be one of the cool kids with roms again lol ?
---------- Post added at 07:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:10 PM ----------
And the Verizon would pay quote I think is bs, they're making money either way, they could care less.
I hope it works. I have the dev edition and development is getting stale. This would open up a lot more development, assuming the devs haven't already abandoned this phone.
Only a few more months with the phone, why not go out in style! Hope this is true.
And they're probably going to sit on this and never do anything with it, or worse, sell the exploit to Samsung/Verizon. :/
Does this mean those of us who have unrooted, stock OG5 builds might also get root? Normally root comes first, then maybe unlocking the boot loader, correct? I am noob, but was hoping an unlocked boot loader might make a root exploit easier as well. Am I crazy?
Root, with the unlocked bootloader, would mean I could finally get out of my stock Verizon rom (when I'm on a t mobile mvno).

It depends on what the unlock method requires. If it needs root then it won't work. If it doesn't need root then it's likely that OG5 will be able to unlock.

Once bootloader is unlocked, the possibility is unlimited, any custom roms can be flash and root is just a piece of cake. If the bootloader is unlocked, we can flash a custom kernel where it allowed to root....at will. ...
And i just saw this comment and it made me sad.

If OEMs or Carriers bought exploits, I would be rich and no longer be posting on XDA. They don't.
According to what he's actually doing on the computer via ADB, he's using root commands which means it may require root. This is only speculation though because he does flash a bootloader file via Odin too and obviously you don't need root for Odin.
So essentially it could just be as easy as flashing a bootloader file via Odin.

Sunshine is the only option. I highly suggest paying $25.
It's a more than fair price. (Think about the number of devices they make paperweights providing us this option. Also they are the only option . You can ship it out to a Java card, but that's shipping fees and paying to use the card unless you're friends with them and do it for free, and even then shipping is prob more than $25..
Save up and enjoy the unlocked device thanks to sunshine. If you can't afford it, that is something you will need to figure out.
Best of luck!
