I pulled my sim from an iPhone 5s and put it in my Nexus 5. It auto provisioned the APN's and MMS is listed in the type field. I can send MMS to people, but not receive. Anyone else seeing the behavior?
I'm on aio (pre paid at&t)(7gigs/$70) with same problem. They put the apns at the store.
Side note. Not really happy with service. Co worker has post paid at&t. He gets easy better speeds standing right next to each other.

i currently have a nexus 4. i walked into a retail att store and asked for a microsim card and they handed one over free of charge. first off, i'd like to clarify if this sim will work in a nexus 5. is there an LTE specific sim that i'll need? or can i just swap from the n4 to the n5?
second, i'm currently using the $60/month gophone plan. i had to spoof an s4 imei with customer service in order to get proper hspa+ speeds. can i just leave everything as is (assuming my sim is good to go for a simple swap) and i'll get LTE speeds? well, not leave quite everything... i assume i'll need to switch from the phone to the pta apn, but other than that, will i be good to go?
i wanna be sure my transition to the n5 goes as smoothly as possible.
You should be good to go.
If they provisioned your current micro SIM for an S4 then you would already have the LTE SOC associated with that SIM.
All you need to do is pop in your SIM once you get the Nexus 5 and enter the right APN and you should be set.
What I'd watch out for though is when they do an IMEI sweep, if AT&T can read it as a Nexus 5 (or a generic smartphone) they will provision your account as such and you'll be put on a 3G data plan (which is the default for a smartphone they don't carry). This will cause you to have to get a new SIM and have customer service provision your account as an S4 again.
Full disclosure, I'm a former AT&T store manager (left a little over a year ago) and I've seen this sorta thing happen before. If you're on go phone, unfortunately you don't have as much leeway as a post paid customer when it comes to both customer service in store or over the phone. Personally, I'd tell them you had an LG G2 (D800) as the model number will be pretty similar, so that can help you get swapped back easier should they screw up your account.

Right now i have my N5 up and running on AT&T'S Mobile share 4gb plan. Works awesome, But im looking at over $100/ Month. My question is this, I purchased a T mobile Sim starter Kit and i was thinking to try the $70 Unlimited plan, But my biggest concern is speed and coverage.
What would happen if i took my att sim out of my n5, Then set up t mobiles sim and plan on the N5 and tried it out and it doesn't work (Coverage isn't good). Does this cancel my att plan and what not? Can i simply put my att sim back in and go on with what i had before?
Thanks in advance!

You have the freedom to swap Sim cards at will. Taking your Sim out doesn't cancel your service.

Only way to cancel your service is if you either call in and cancel the line or port out your number.

Also T-Mobile does have a roaming agreement with at&t.

If i like T Mobiles service and want to stick with it, Can i port my # from att even tho i set up a new # with T Mobile?
Changing Sim cards doesn't affect you service at all. I use google voice as my primary number, so I change Sim cards all the time. That means that I never have to port my number anywhere.
Although AT&T usually has better coverage, T-Mobile generally has better non-LTE speeds. This is a valuable fact to look at, especially when you realize that LTE consumes more battery power. That and the fact that T-Mobile has a much bigger data allowance (unlimited), means that I tend to switch to them several times a year.
One advantage you'll get from using the carriers, and not their MVNOs, is that you automatically get their data APN settings.
Go to settings/wireless and networks/mobile networks/ access point names , and check that you are using the proper APN.
Also, you may have mobile data turned off.
PS, the roaming agreement may not include data roaming, as that costs companies the most money, so you shouldn't assume that you will depend on ATT roaming.
The case will work perfectly on my white 16gb nexus 5. I actually had one in my amazon shopping cart

Earlier this week, I went to AT&T to get a new micro sim for my Nexus 5. It works fine on HSPA+. However, I never see it go to LTE. Using the speedtest app, my d/l speeds max out at 2.5Mbps.
I am in an LTE coverage area. I stood right next to a couple of my co-workers with a Moto X and iphone 5. Both of their phones say LTE.
I called 611 (AT&T customer service) to make sure I had LTE coverage. According to their system, both my phone and plan say LTE.
Am I missing anything? Do I need to do anything (play with any settings) to make LTE go on?
Help...
Is it set to LTE and CDMA/GSM?
LTE is selected
Interesting I'm getting mine today and will be using AT&T I'll let you know if I have the same problem
Very weak LTE for me too. I'm a little disappointed in that, but I'm getting 5-8Mbps down with HSPA+
My LTE works fine on AT&T, I've ran some tests and seen 30Mbps
is your account provisioned for LTE?

I'm getting LTE with no problem. I'm getting about 20 down and 12 up. The only so far I don't like is the speaker volume. It may be YouTube, but it's horrible.

mine is correctly provisioned, and i do see LTE, but it's very weak for me where friends with a Moto X and iPhone 5 see full LTE coverage.
My Nexus 4 on T-Mobile would stay on LTE all day, but my Nexus 5 gets off LTE and goes back to HSPA+ when it drops to 2 bars or less. I am very aggravated. I can get it on LTE if I show it that there is LTE around by going to the secret dialer menu and enabling LTE only, but it is like it doesn't want to get on LTE unless it is 4-5 bars.
I need to see how my wife's Nexus 5 operates and I may end up RMAing mine.
I have yet to see my Nexus 5 on LTE (AT&T), i'm coming from an HTC One and that has connected to LTE without issues, not sure what the issue is, if AT&T is blocking it because its an 'unknown device' or what, has anybody discovered anything new on this?

Works great on AT&T's LTE network on the n5, SIM originally from a Lumia 920 also LTE.
No problem here with SIM out of S3. I did notice that he automatically changed my APN's. It only pulled ATT Phone and ATT WAP. Its set to Phone. I am roughly same speed as s3

I'm using a new micro sim since I was previously using a galaxy nexus. I'm thinking that it might be an apn setting issue. If there any way you (or someone else) could list their apn settings? A screenshot would be great.. Thanks in advance.
Works fine for me using the stock APN
I walked in my AT&T store, handed my Nexus 5 still in the box to a tech, she unboxed it, put in a sim booted it up, download SpeedTest app and with a LTE tower right next to the store these were the numbers I got.

exactly the same experience. walked in today with my N5, handed it to the tech, transferred my # (coming from VZW), activated a new sim, put it in and off i went into LTE land. no issues at all
I've had the same issue since I got my Nexus 5 last Monday. Went to store, she put in LTE sim. Mine only show H. That's it just "H". Called at&t several times. They tried different settings on the phone. Suppose to send me another sims card in the mail. Also, said they "escalated" my case to a specialist. I should have it resolved by Nov. 11th.
I just simply pop in my sim from my s4

I'm new to the prepaid game. I just ordered my nexus 5.
Now I want to get straight talk because I hear its att or Verizon towers?..
Anyway.. Is there a special sim or settings I will need to order or can I get it from Walmart?

Your Nexus 5 can't connect to Verizon, but no worries. StraightTalk can connect to either AT&T or T-Mobile depending on which sim card you choose. Make sure you check coverage to see which suits you best.
The Nexus 5 takes a Micro sim card.

I just activated my Nexus 5 with straight talk over the weekend. I got a BYOP kit from Walmart, which has 4 SIM cards: 2 regular SIM (for AT&T and T-mobile towers) and 2 micro SIM (AT&T and T-mobile). You need the pick the micro SIM of the service provider that you want to use.
To activate, just go the straight talk website. The kit has $45 1 month unlimited talk, text and data card with a service PIN. You would need to enter the serial number of the SIM and the service PIN to activate the service. You can choose to get a new number or port an existing number. I ported mine from Verizon and it took only a few hours.
You would also need to enter the APN settings from the straight talk website. There is a flashable zip here in the forums that can help automate the process or you can enter them manually. After you enter the APN settings, LTE should be functional. You may need to reboot the phone.
My Nexus 5 works perfectly with straight talk with AT&T as the service provider.
Any speed test? Also the zip can you post link?

And what's better to get T-Mobile or att? In my area I know att is better. (ma). But that's full. Not prepaid and through straight

One big issue with Straight Talk
Not sure why nobody else is mentioning it in the forums but I just discovered that Straight Talk severely limits video streaming on LTE or 4G. Trying to watch a video on Youtube is pretty useless since it will keep stopping every 3-4 seconds to buffer and will never pre-load any of the video. But if you switch your phone to 3G, Youtube works like normal. I can't deal with this problem so I'm dropping Straight Talk very soon.
So me and two people bought n5s and straight talk and got att Sims.
Two of us it says home as data network. The other says at&t. But the other has a NJ number. And we have MA numbers. But were all next to each other.... Why isn't it at&t?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Just replaced my Sim and it went from home to att. I am in the same location, and just assumed it was a newer Sim as nothing else changed.
And what's wrong with Home? I'm in Queens and it seems fine. Fast and always connected.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Just the point of it saying home vs att..which is what people want.

Shouldn't even say AT&T anyways, i'm on a MVNO of AT&T also and mine shows as H2O which is my carrier.
Net10 also says that so yours should say Straight Talk instead of Home. That's a simple SIM update though and it doesn't matter as mentioned. Eventually ST will push an update to your SIM which will change the naming.
