Pressure sensor stops when screen is off - Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S III Developer Discussion

Hello,
I am writing an application that uses the built-in pressure sensor. I experienced that after the screen has gone dark the pressure sensor stops delivering data. The onSensorChanged() method of the SensorEventListener never gets called when the screen is off. When the screen is switched on the sensor immediately starts providing samples again. I tried setting a wakelock, unregistering and re-registering the SensorEventListener triggered by a ScreenOff Action, running the service that hosts the listener in foreground - nothing works. I use the latest stable version of slim bean but I doubt that using stock rom would behave differently. Has anyone tried this before and maybe even found a workaround? Any hints that point me in the right direction appreciated. Same Code works as expected on a Nexus4.
Best Regards
Paul

Just guessing, but maybe the sensor is turned off by kernel

Yeah, it seems like this is something beyond my influence. The sensor is a fabric by Bosch, but I don't even know where to find the relevant files in kernel source. Maybe I just disable that feature for the Samsung devices. Thanks, anyways. And cheers from Cologne. Tomorrow half the town is going to be drunk here because of 11.11....

[Q] Missing sensors in Nexus 5 after install Android 5.0

Hello,
After clean install Android 5.0 on Nexus 5 I have lost all sensors.
Do you have similar problem?
Is there any solution to fix it?
What app are you using? This looks like a bug in an app, than in Android itself.
I had this problem even before installed any apps. In android l developer preview I didn't have sensors also, so after installed final version of lollipop the first thing I made was check sensors. On kitkat everything worked perfect.

i don't have light and proximity sensors too...
i did full wipe and flash stock OTA
hope they will fix it soon
Since upgrading to Lollipop my proximity and light sensor also stops working after a few minutes. It works again after a restart, but only for a few minutes.
I have flashed 4.4.4 again and the problem is not present there. After upgrading to 5.0 again the problem came back.
the apps are the issue here gentlemen.
1.On call as you bring your phone to ear, screen turns off?Proximity working
2.Adaptive brightness enable and use the phone on same brightness settings in bright and dim areas, screen brightness intensity change?Light sensor working.
3.Screen rotates views?Accelerometer working.
4.Play asphalt or any other motion requiring game, car turns?Gyro working.
5.Open maps, get pointing direction?compass working.
6.Use pedometer, counter change?step counter working.

No sir, it's definitely not the apps in my case. After a restart the light and proximity sensors work as expected, but a few minutes later they stop working. I could confirm this with the Sensor Box app as well as with no's 1&2 in your post.
I noticed it first because my adaptive brightness did not work and the screen did not switch of in call. I only installed Sensor Box to see if the sensors still work, this confirmed that they actually stop working and that it is not a calibration issue because Sensor Box shows no reading from these sensors.
This is definitely an issue with Lollipop because I flashed 4.4.4 again and everything worked fine confirming that it is not hardware, but after once again upgrading to 5.0 the sensors stop working few minutes after the phone starts up.

That's interesting, have you tried any other custom roms or kernels based on lollipop? I know that is a long shot or even that best advice but could you, or have you checked on other roms?
SO only your Proximity and light sensor the issue? Or all the other sensors a bust?

I haven't tried any other Lollipop ROMs, I thought about it and I might actually give it a go to see if the problem persists on other ROMs as well, but I would prefer to have stock Android running on my phone, so I'm really hoping for a fix from Google. I'm on few other threads about the same issue, so I know there's a lot of people with the same problem. I had this on the dev preview as well.

I have tried Code-Blue kernel as I have heard it's a good one, but the problem is still there. I might try a different ROM in the near future.
For me it is only the Light and Proximity sensors, all other sensors work 100%

The Same Problem For Me As Well, My Light Sensor & Proximity Sensor Arent Working. I have downloaded the Final Image from Google Website for 5.0 hammerhead. But still the problem persists.
Nyk
After I got the Play services (with secure locations) update two days ago my light and proximity sensors are gone too. They will work for a while after reboot, but eventually they die.
All other sensors are working fine and only other updates have been to Skype, SwiftKey and TuneIn Radio.
Edit: I'm on stock OTA, no root and never unlocked the bootloader.

So uninstalling the play services update resolve the issue? I'm back to KitKat as without light sensor I find uncomfortable to use the phone. Will await the fix before moving to lollipop..

"Clean install" using factory images? I did, no issues here.
It seems to be working until I get a phone call, after that the sensors will die.
Have uninstalled the Play services update now and the phone has been up and working 100% for a little more than 4 hours now. Will try to make a phone call to see if it still works after that.

Hi I have the same problems . Sensors are working after restarting my phone random time. Also you can read here
Uninstalling Play services didn't do it for me either. Sensors work for approximately 4-5 hours then they die.

S6 (not Edge) Auto brightness not working

I have the TMobile S6 variant that I've had for about 6 months or so and noticed a few weeks back that that auto brightness does not work. it stays very very low even in very bright settings, I always have to go in a manually change th3 screen brightness. Is there a fix for this in an update or something because I seem to be the only one with an S6 having the issue although it has been reported for the Edge only.
Me and others have the same experience with the S6.
Samsung support told me that it's no issue - just an "individual perception"!
I use the app" AutoBrightness" to substitute the issue of the "world best Smartphone"

Xperia Z5 series jack input issues

I decided to write a post here, on Z5 forum, because on Z5C section is dead.
I read many topics where people have the same problem as I do. My phone is a Z5 compact, but this problem have all Z5 series phones and many others from Sony.
Everything is presented in a movie. Sorry for my english.
Found someone so far a fix for this?
I have exactly the same issue with my desktop speakers on Z5 ( headset connected via Bluetooth).
I would appreciate to get a fix for this.

it does not help, because i have for example 4 pairs of headphones with the same input and ONLY one of them work.. Same with aux cable
i have the exact same problem, but only when i plug it into my car. does it for like 5secs and just connects. but if i use headphone have never had a problem at all.
i figure since it only happens in my car im not overly fussed. usually takes the same amount of time to unlock my phone and start playing music, i use Shuttle so i set it to not auto start when headphones are plugged in.
im more annoyed that it has that notification that you cant get rid off!!! dont mind the headphones icon at the notification bar but just annoying that it stays in the notifications and you cant swipe to remove it.
I also have this problem with desktop speakers but never with headphones. Sometimes headphones will buzz a little when I spin the jack around but this is only temporary and if I blow into the headphone jack and put it in again there's no problem.

and no fix so far?..
If you wet the device, it can happen. Wait dry. If it are already dry, Wet the device again and wait to dry. The problem will be solved.

not that i know of. like i said it only happens when i use my phone in my car and it only lasts for 5seconds and it goes away. so it doesnt really bother me as much.
when using headphones, like my sennheisers or my xiaomi's or the sony ones that came with the phone i dont get that issue.
but like i said im more annoyed with that stupid notification that just stays there when ever anything is plugged in =/

I do not think that is hardware issue, because it's doesnt help me so far...

Is it a scam?

Hello fellow phone users,
Rescently I bought Samsung Galaxy s6 from selling site on the internet, it was used and not in good shape by that I mean on the metal edges of phone it was damaged but i still bought it. I needed a phone
But few days ago it wasnt charging from usb, it was charging wirelessly, but something stinked of fried component so i broght it for repair in official repair shop. It have waranty. But i got an email which specify that I got to pay a lot of money to fix damaged screen and dammaged rear pannel. But I replied with request for offer for repairing just USB charging which was broken. But they said I must replace screen for resolving issues with my charging. What to do? Am I being scammed? Is there any connection with usb charging and screen? Help Pls
I attached their photos of the phone.
I dont think screen needs to be changed for USB to get fixed and broken backplate can't break USB in my opinion

Definitely something fishy since there is no connection of the screen with the USB port.
What to do in this case, how to aproach them? I think they are hesistating to answer my e-mails or they are just too busy.

I don't think that too... Just take you phone from them and go to some more no-official point where it's just GSM service (repairs all etc), ask just about fix USB-port nothing more I think not more then 30€.
Official point's always will tell you something like that, and costs always are so hiiigh
Update: I picked it up yesterday. I didnt get an explanation from the service guy by email or telephone, but seller guy told me that Samsung did write some rules about servicing. If your phone have one little mark on display it need to be replaced because if they break it you cant just go to them and tell them that they broke it. That is Samsung guide for repair, probably design doesnt allow servicing from back panel, so glass need to be removed. So with that scratch service shop and Samsung are protected. What now, should i take it to another repairing shop or just live with my wireless charger? Cheers!
Thanks, considering their price of replacing something ~270€ (2000HRK) I think I will pass this repair, risk is too high for me for someone to broke my screen idk how much is screen for Galaxy S6. I paid phone ~200€ (1500HRK) so the price of repair is high. I will try to live wireless charging and wifi data transfer. BTW, for Galaxy s6 users: how much hours you get of screen on time (SOT)

Is depend mainly from your ROM/kernel/battery (because can be from S7 Edge 3600mAh), your settings (kernel and all sett.), what you doing on phone (just browsing etc/benchmarking/gaming...) and do your using internet with it and what connection (WiFi/HSPA+/LTE) and even signal affects to battery life (in case HSPA+ and LTE, worser signal takes more battery).
In my case on Ultimate Nougat ROM and N0G33K V7.0 RC6 Kernel with stock 2550mAh battery I reach 6h SoT on WiFi connection, just browsing, chatting, few calls/SMS's etc, little bit YT, 2 races in Asphalt 8 (just try) etc. (no benchmarks/tests). But on my kernel settings so undervolting and underclocking applied

This sounds more like a hardware issue. Likely defective FM decoder or internal wiring.
Obviously as you say from other sound sources it's working. So your unit is correctly cabled to the speakers and working. Your amplifier seems to be fine too. The only difference to the radio source is the origin of the sound being emitted from the FM tuner internally on your head unit. Assuming this the sound/noise on your right speaker will be produced by defective FM tuner and likely is just amplified as any other sound. So the volume level of the noise likely increases when you turn up the volume.
If this is the case I would recommend to send the unit back or have it repaired as this problem is not software related and cannot be fixed with another radio app.
The only work-around I could see is to use another radio source (e.g. external FM tuner) or use a source like DAB or internet radio. But your internal FM chip/wiring seems to be broken.
Thanks a lot for your statement. I'm in contact with the seller and hope they send me a new unit. They have offer me a partial payback but i want a unit wich is working for 100%.
DAB+ or other things are not an option for me.
