In Android 4.4, we have a feature of saying "OK Google " in home screen. Is it possible for dev to develop this feature similar to Moto X, like touch less control.
Thank You.

It's definitely possible, or so I've heard, because the Snapdragon has a low power, always on core, that can perform that function. So in terms of hardware, it's available.
It's just a matter of time and ingenuity of the developers to create that function, which I have no doubt they can. They are XDA after all.

I would be willing to pay $5 to have something like this on my Nexus 5
As long as you're not hoping for Active Display, I think this is possible.
It's going to take some time due to the fact that it's buried deep in MSM8974 and some dev has to go ahead to enable it.
Not only that, but right now our pseudo-Touchless Control is managed by Google Now and I don't believe that it's that way on the Moto X (it's simply a Moto feature I think).
I'd pay $10

This is my one and only disappointment when it comes to the Nexus 5. "Touchless Controls" does me no good if I have to turn on / unlock my phone to take advantage of it. If you've already turned your phone on and swiped to unlock it, why not just press the microphone button at the top of every home page and start talking instead of saying Ok Google first? Makes no sense.
Hopefully there's a dev out there working on this mod. I'd happily donate to the cause.
On the moto x a search of "listen to wrecking ball" will search your songs and play that song...only works on song name only sadly. On my nexus 5 that search does not play the song, though nexus and moto x are doing the exact same "Google now search". So moto x has some custom code in the Google search app?

Most likely. Looks like Moto's really got a few tricks up its sleeve. I don't think that if you moved the Now apk from Moto X to N5 it would work, because I think it's independent of Velvet.apk...because if it wasn't, every time you updated Google Search, you would only get the features of every other device that's compatible with Google Now.
Stop screwing with us Google!
Wrecking Ball...lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0Og4LaB1Zc
Was in the car yesterday and realized how great it'd be to be able to get directions, send a text, without touching the phone even once. Would be nice to see this come to the N5.
you can try open mic+.
It isvery disappointing that there is no moto apps and features like moto voice, touchless control , double tap to wakeup etc in nexus 6.
They want to sell their X 2014 too. ?

Hey, guys
I am Android developer & recently I have launched an app which Intelligently locks & Unlocks your device using various sensors.
The name of app is Cover Algorithm.
Edit: Now, name changed to Automaton.
So, I wanted to design my app to use special /extra Sensors like Infra-red, proximity, etc.
So, I need to help of S4 users / developers to find any way to use those sensors programmatically to make my app better.
This thread will help all, possibility to use S4 sensors in CyanogenMod & lot more

What I do really believe is that the unlock feature shouldn't be noted anywhere as it would totally invalidate the locking feature itself, it has to be the owner's 'little secret'!

For that combo I want to see a droid doing a fatality to a bitten apple, lol!
I don't know, something simple like the droid burning the apple with his laser sight and the apple turning into a roasted one like those from the fairs and carnivals :victory:
Yeah, something simple... XD
@akshay:
"Cool, but the users wouldn't get it.

That's precisely the point!
The owner of the phone should be the ONLY ONE to know that an alternate unlock method is available, if somebody else knows about it... well.. PUFF! the surprise/cloak factor goes away
So, if you are the owner of the phone or tablet and along the normal locking methods (pattern, pwd, pin) you decide to implement this alternate, quick unlock method we can safely assume that you know what you're doing and in the event you forget the keys combination for the quick unlock you can always unlock your device the traditional way
In fact, the alternate, quick unlock method should be used when alone or with the people you care and you should rigorously stick with the traditional unlock method in front of strangers.
Call me paranoid but I believe I'm just cautious.
---------- Post added at 12:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:11 PM ----------
MOREOVER: you must bear in mind that if you ultimately develop this feature then is matter of time that it's getting noticed so you need to find a *perfect blend* (nothing less) between security & usability, something that sounds easy when thinking in loud voice but starts getting complex once you start to draw on the board.
If the person that got your gadget happens to know about this type of secondary-unlock method he/she can easily try some combinations to unlock the phone.
Just take your time to analyze what could be the best way to implement it

I can try to implement the feature you want. Actually, I tried it.
The shake to lock & shake + key to unlock.
Privacy Factor :
The user of the device will only know that feature as he will be the one using the app.
I tried of using Power key but I failed maybe I should try more to use it. But, I can try using other keys like volume, menu key, etc.
I think of keeping an option to change the key according to the user opinion & key availability on device.

Has anyone been able to get the smart dialer from the Nexus 5 working on the Moto X? I have a Nexus 5 and and the smart search feature in the dialer was actually really nice to use. For those who don't realize what I am talking about- this is the feature in the dialer where you can search "AutoZone" within the dialer and it will pull up the 3 listings closest to you. Also when you call local businesses it displays their name and picture instead of just the phone number.
I'm trying to decide between the Moto X or the N5 and it is such a hard decision every little thing is factoring in. Thanks!
Edit:
Some people later in the thread have had success with this dialer apk in the download link below:

Let me tell you from my own experience. I bought a nexus 5 moments after launch. Upon receiving it, I liked it but its really barley different from the nexus 4 (which I was coming from) other than kit Kat. Fast forward 3 weeks, I sold my nexus and bought a moto x. I'm much happier with this device. Its way more innovative than the nexus 5. Touchless control and active display are amazing. As far as hardware I notice no difference. The display is just as good but in a different way. And the camera may not be better but takes good pictures. Overall I'm 100% happy with my decision and will never look back.

Thanks for weighing in there. I actually think the Nexus 5 is an amazing phone. Each phone has pros and cons. The Smart Dialer being a pro of the Nexus 5 since I was actually using the feature. So back to my original question, anyone? anyone?
I'm guessing it is more than just installing the N5 dialer apk otherwise it would be readily available for install.

Feels more like you are searching for someone in your contact list vs. googling the number. Time wise it is probably the same if you are quick with google now. It is nice having the functionality in the dialer app vs switching over to google now if I am already in the dialer. The caller id feature is what I really like about it though. Say yesterday I called Autozone and then I need to call them again today, I can completely skip over opening google now and repeating the search process, just go straight to my history, see the name and location of the Autozone (especially helpful I I had called multiple locations) I called and click to call, no searching, no trying to remember what time of day I called them yesterday, what number it was, etc.

With the new dialer it would be labeled in the history as AutoZone + location info, with the stock dialer all you see is the number, so if you have called many numbers that are not in your contacts then good luck remember which number was AutoZone in your history.
Anyhow I switched back to my Nexus 5 anyway as I decided I liked it better than the Moto X, so for me this thread is now a moot point.

I'm thinking it's some lib files or something missing.
cause it seems like they changed it and wondered if it would change a lot. i assume they are going to have to put the menu option in the apps which is not as convenient
Yeah I never understood the reasoning behind this. How often do I hit the menu key? How often do I need the Multitask key? I'd say menu is alot more important at least for my use.

The thing is, the menu key is inconsistent. Some apps use it, some dont, and it has different purposes in each app. The multitasking key is a system function, always the same therefore reliable and less confusing for users. Also, another major issue is you wouldn't believe how many casual users have no idea that long press goes to the switcher. This encourages people to use their phone more efficiently.

Very.
The one big surprise in the hardware department is that Samsung is dumping the menu button and replacing it with a "Recent Apps" button, finally following the recommended button layout Google introduced three years ago. The removal of the menu button means the top-right action bar overflow menus will now properly appear in all apps, no longer hiding important options from users. Samsung loves to have unity across their devices, so we expect this to be the new button layout going forward.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014...-and-tabpro-new-screen-sizes-and-magazine-ui/
So in order to offer the same functionality as the Pro's and Note 12 either Samsung changes the button on new-build N10.1-14's or keeps the button the way it is graphically and it performs the new function as described above. A disaster scenario would be because of the stupid button and wanting uniformity across devices Samsung decides not give the N10.1-14 the new UI. It's hard to believe that Samsung would throw purchasers of their heretofore most expensive tablet that's less than three months old under the bus like that but it's certainly something Samsung's going to have to make some decisions about.
Samsung has two choices with older devices that have the "menu" graphic rather than the newer "apps" graphic introduced for the first time on the four newly announced tablets.
They can:
Be purists and leave newer devices without the proper graphic (SGS4, N3, N10.1-14) on the older UI but update the OS to 4.4.
Ignore the mislabeled graphic and treat older devices the same as newer devices and update them to 4.4/Magazine UX.
And there's no point arguing which direction Samsung will go as either is possible and no one here (including me) knows what Samsung's thinking. I do think something's up in that when talking about their 2014 premium tablet line there's not been one mention of the N10.1-14 and how it fits in their product strategy. If it was going to carry on as the "Note 10.1 2014 Edition" and receive 4.4/Magazine UX you'd think they would have said something. In PR/Marketing what's not said is sometimes more telling than what is.

That means landscape is the default orientation and the hardware keys are placed along one of the long sides.
Those are the old Menu, Home, Back keys, even though Samsung is already moving to App Switcher, Home, Back on some of its recent devices.

trade your n5 in for a g2, you dont need or want a n5.
Whoa guys, a little hostile today, are we? Just because you hate LG's interface, doesn't mean everyone does or even should. I, myself, don't like it either but OP came here asking an honest question about modifying his Nexus 5. We could at least have the decency to tell him what we know, or not respond at all.
Anyway, OP. I personally do not know of any way to flash the G2's ROM to the Nexus 5, or any custom ROMs that were inspired by the G2. Your best bet is to try to download something from the Play Store that mimics what you like on the G2. Just doing a quick search, I found this app. I haven't tested it or anything so I'm not sure how well it works, it's just one of results that came up from searching the Play Store. Seems legit, but like I said, I can't vouch for it.

Can't do it, it will load g2 drivers onto the nexus and it will be a paper weight. We did tell him what we know, you'll brick your device, can't do it.

these are just some of the kernels that have the "knock knock" and sweep to wake or sleep or whatever. They will benefit you potentially in more ways than just that specific added functionality.

Except almost every response was worded in a very condescending way. Plus, just saying "Nope can't be done" then the issue getting dropped very rarely happens on XDA. Look at the G2 battery in the Nexus 5, people still haven't given up on it despite a bunch of reasons why it "won't" work One guy said he'd basically hard-mod his phone, taking stuff out, to make it fit. You get that innovation everywhere else on XDA. For some reason this only happens when a feature from another phone is requested to be ported to, or run on, a Nexus device. Since the Nexus (and Android in general) is all about choice I figure hey, throw the guy a bone and elaborate and help him a bit by throwing up alternatives or workarounds instead of providing a brick wall and then moving on with my XDA browsing.
Guess all I'm trying to say is just because some guy might not fully appreciate the Nexus 5 and/or vanilla Android and wants a feature from another phone, one's response shouldn't change from the response one would have given if it were a question about a cool ROM they used on another phone or whatever else (but it commonly does).
As more of us get our phones today's, ive noticed little things missing
I cant seem to find simple sharing (I looked in the gallery)
Where is the Samsung stock internet browser? (isn't it needed to use finger print to log in to sites)
I didn't see onedrive installed., don't we receive 100 gigs?
the touch buttons (cant be turned off or put on timer) -.-
What else you notice?
I too noticed the samsung browser missing. I even looked in the samsung store to see if we could download it , no dice.
Verizon has thoroughly gimped the Samsung Galaxy S6
Looking through one of the nicest devices I've ever owned, trying to find all of the features that I've been reading about everywhere on the internet, when the realization slowly dawns on me: Verizon has removed many of the features of Samsung's software suite that made it worth using in the first place. Gone is the Samsung Store. I can't actually find it anywhere, which is really rather odd (hopefully Samsung will sneak it in during the night when nobody is looking...) Gone also is the ability to link Samsung's native music player to a variety of cloud services, instead you are locked into Verizon's rather poor attempt at cloud storage (meaning no playing music straight off your Drive from within the stock Music app, and you can forget about playing from Onedrive through it too.) Speaking of Onedrive, it didn't come preinstalled. That was one giant read warning light, followed by confirmation buzzers when I installed it and then scoured through all of the settings looking for the button to press to get my free 100GB of online storage. It would appear that this option simply doesn't exist for us. Funny. I forgot to laugh. Another thing that I found to be fairly odd: battery life. It isn't terrible, not really, but the device ran warm and got absolutely terrible reception for a few hours after activation. I'm going to have to keep an eye on it after it's had its drink from the mains to make sure that it was merely a fluke.
Has anyone else noticed anything that Verizon appears to have nixed on their Galaxy S6 that I've missed?
they answered a lot of the reasons i would root and mainly i finally get to add more columns and rows THANK GOODNESS
but i can not seem to figure out how to switch back and forth to my Bluetooth stereo or headset when on a call there was a bluetooth button that appears to be gone and i have to hit speaker button to get off BT
samsung account
The Galaxy store will show up when you log into your Samsung account and install some updates. Still I've yet to find our 100 gb's of One Drive or the stock browser.
I'm most frustrated by Simple Sharing and capacitive settings missing. Most of the other stuff I don't really care about.
Hopefully we'll get root, and then be able to flash ROMs with these options baked in
Overall I'm very happy with my S6 though. These are mainly just minor grievances
I was going to get mine today because Verizon I 100$ less than the rest and then use it on t Mobile. Us it not worth it? Should I pay the extra 80 or so for a t Mobile or unlocked variant? Or are you guys alright with what you have?

Sprint version is only 48$ more so would you all recommend I grab that instead and just have it unlocked?

Also is the 100 gigs of one drive unlimited or for a limited time?

I really don't understand the point of removing the stock browser. I understand verizon or any provider throwing on their services even if i have no use, but why and what gives them the right to change the fundamentals of a product.
I can't use google music right now because I have to many devices authorized but when i go to de-authorize it says I can't. A call to google and they have to have a specialist get back to me as they are not in there office now. I get not wanting more then a given number of devices authorization but what do they care what device i de-authorize. Make it so once de-authorized i can't authorize the same device without jumping through hoops. This is not how I pictured this all going down while I was waiting for this phone. Like the phone and how speedy it is, but these problems plus what seems like not to good of battery life are making me rethink.
Where is the task manager?
Is the favorites widget for contactz missing or am I missing it?

If someone made a lot if another variant like t Mobile or something we'll get all these features right? That's how it was on my Verizon g2. Cloudyfa was a dev who made a international variant rom for all devices so we had all the lg features. If this happens then the Verizon version Wil pretty much be the best since we can use it with relatively any carrier, and it's also 100$ cheaper than all other carriers when paid in full.

i did and it was right there the whole time but not as convenient as the old method before LP. when you are on the call look for the "More" button at the top right of the screen and its in there.
i blame it on the Underhills
If you download OneDrive from the play store, it will still give you the 100gb. Same thing happened to me on Verizon.
