Anyone running these two side by side? I don't really think I NEED to buy the N5, so I wanted to see if anyone is using it who previous owned the N4, is there difference really that big?

It's really that big
If you have the money to buy the N5, you won't be disappointed
I'm upgrading from N4. To be honest, I am still amazed at how fast the N4 is for day to day usage. On the other hand, I've only been using my N5 for a couple hours, and I'm glad to report that it is mind glowingly fast.

I'm not gonna buy it until its readily available, the 3-4 week ship time is nonsense. Google needs to get their inventory in order, I might just end up finding one on Craigslist or Swappa by the time the N5 is available for immediate shipping.

Their delivery estimates are worst case scenario. Many people with the 2-3 week estimate have had them ship out already.
What's the difference between ordering now and waiting for them to ship it and waiting until it's "in stock" to purchase it? The latter will most likely take longer.

To be honest, I find the difference to be subtle.
Don't be discouraged by the shipping estimate though. I was given an estimate of 2 weeks when I placed my order last Thursday. Obviously I've received it already.

If I'm going to dish out around $380 with all the taxes, I don't want to wait a couple of weeks to get it. I have a bad habit of being an impulse buyer, but that also means when I spend the money, I need to be holding the product in my hands almost immediately.

Fair enough.
As the other has said, N4 is fast, but N5 is blazing fast...
Screen is larger, but I got the yellowish warm that I hope it can get fixed through some calibration...
Camera: haven't really tried much yet personally, but reports are that the low light performance is much better than N4.
I just miss the Cyanogen Mod features on N4, will have to wait...
Physically it feels like a very sleek device, maybe because I don't have any case on (yet) whereas with the N4 I have the bumper.
On Google site it said that it would ship out on the 15th, I got it today and had ordered it on Halloween so it came sooner than expected.

I personally dont see big difference between two. Maybe because I have Liquidsmooth and Matrix on my N4. But I still gonna keep the N5 cause its newer and hoping for better battery life

I just canceled my order that I placed on woot.com because all this talk about the viewing angles and no market or honeycomb and I really like to have my devices ready fresh out the box so im just gunna wait for the Samsung 10.1 coming in june with its gorgeous display and slim design .I was having that feeling of buyers remorse after I ordered the gtablet lol
Those were the debates I had in my head when I was deciding whether to purchase the woot deal or not. You know what it came down to for me. The cheapest gtab with 16gb internal will be $499. $499-274.99=$224. That's practically 2 Gtabs for the price of one Samsung Galaxy Tab. Plus I will NEVER trust Samsung again when it comes to software. They have screwed me enough times and still are the slowest Android manufacturer at updating software.

I no have any problem with the viewing angles. For me it is ok. And don't expect cheaper tablets unless the unknown brands... The Gtablet is one of the most versatile tablets, you can flash freely almost anything without brick it.
And of course always is gonna be a better deal around the corner, if you wait, but it can keep you waiting for life. I rather prefer live the present.
Just my 0.02 cents
Angles do not bother me at all. In fact, I was traveling this week and the guy next to me kept trying to see what I was doing and I was glad to know that he probably was having trouble.
I have not doubt somebody will figure out how to get Honeycomb on this thing, but right now, I am happy with it as it is with Vegan. My plan is to keep this for a year while HC gets its bugs worked out and the technology drops in price. Then I will buy a new one and give this to my kids who use it over 50% of the time anyways...

I'm about to return my 2nd gtab.
I picked up my first Viewsonic gTab from Tiger Direct in Canada. The battery wouldn't charge right out of the box. I ordered another one and sent the first one back. The second randomly loses power while on battery. I have to tap it in the right spot to get it back up again.
I think the build quality is suspect on these units. I'm going to wait for Xoom/Asus Transformer/Samsung...I have to be patient...I don't want to get sucked in to the iDarkside available in stores now.
If every device worked "out of the box" sites like XDA would not be around. XDA is here to help improve the out of box experience. if you don't do that what's the point of coming here?

if you think buying a samsung product will get you a great out of the box experience you are sadly mistaken. the samsung vibrant was pretty much useless and took forever to get the froyi update necessary to make it run at even reasonable speed. cannot compare apples and oranges - this is a 285 dollar tablet

Yea and I read in the thread somewhere that viewsonic didn't even make the device or something like that. Altough I know it is a great device for the price, I just don't want to settle for less when there's better tablets coming out in a couple of months

Used the screen to your advantage huh lol nice, and yea I get you by christmas the xoom will probably be around 400$ and also lg tablets toshiba tablets and the rest of the bunch
For the price, I'll take the drawbacks. I just need to do a bit of reading to figure out how to tweak it once it arrives. Hopefully some of my experience with the DX will come in handy.
Samsung makes decent hardware (though my sig might suggest otherwise) but their software sucks. Go look at how stressed out the CM guys are trying to get CM on the SGS.
At $280 the gTab is in the toy category. If I paid $400+ I would expect the thing to work flawlessly.
To each his own really, for me the excitement around the gTab is that it is nearly 100% unlocked so tinkering with the thing will be super easy.
Even some of the complaints people have with the device with the newest patches are kids play compared to some of the crap I had to deal with on my SGS in order to make it work the way I wanted.
That ran through my head for about 5 seconds. Then I remembered that I have a Vibrant.
The hardware's fantastic, but the software it shipped with was garbage, and samsung clearly doesn't give a crap about showing the modders any love with releasing source. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone, but it's the combo of Samsung hardware and Team Whiskey software that makes it good.
Personally, I'm avoiding giving Samsung any more money (Android-wise) unless they start acting more like HTC (who mostly does well, I think) or something.

Hey guys, i really love the one s, i wanna get it so bad but then there's all these other phones that are cheaper, have more features, just lower build quality (which might be a big deal) So what would be better, to wait for the one S till they lower the price a little or go with an Xperia s or Galaxy Nexus? i currently have an htc sensation and the battery life on it is killing me so that's crucial too!
I had the Xperia S and it was the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune of using. Terrible Battery life, unresponsive buttons, out of date OS and really clunky.
The One S is a far superior phone imo, however I'm going through a exchange due to MAO, apart from that it is a wonderful piece of kit.
Make sure to read up on GN screen. I hear (and seen) they have lots of bad ones.
i yesterday exchanged my gnex for a one s.
i just can say that the one s feels much much better in hands the only problem is that the resolution isn't really high you can see the pixels if you are looking closely.
thats the only "issue" but i would go with the one s.
although now that Gnex is $400 bucks.....it might be a good choice
I'm thinking about just buying a one s and selling it and getting the nexus to make money lol

Haha I am in a similar situation. I am eligible for an upgrade on T-Mobile but I have a fairly new GSM Galaxy Nexus that I received through work, which I absolutely love.
I'm juggling around the idea of using my upgrade to buy the One S to turn around sell it for a profit. I just can't decide if it's worth using my upgrade on since the Galaxy S3 is right around the corner...

I ended up ordering One S today for $260 w/tax + shipping + activation fee (no $50 rebate here, I think with rebate it would have been $10 bucks less but have to wait a few months). I will also get $100 rebate back, so end price will be $160 (buy new 4g phone send them ****ty Shadow II and get that $100 rebate....that phone worth nothing lol...i am still gonna sell MyTouch 4G for $200-250 to another country). I also got $80 account credit few days ago....so if you count that in, phone was $80 bucks w/2 year contract.
I really liked the phone in store. Built quality is REALLY good. Nexus One and now this phone are the ONLY 2 phone that you just wanna carry without any case....its just so good.... I dont think none-HD or pentile display is an issue here. My BIGGEST concern is the development. Will play with phone a bit when I get it, maybe sell it for $400-450 or whatever it goes for and buy Galaxy Nexus.
Have to give Sense 4 at least a day to see if its any good....
oh and I have to play around with Bluetooth 4, I hear it has problems with some devices. If its not working for me then I am ordering Nexus for sure ASAP. Bluetooth is something I use almost everyday to stream music to car. < radio, CDs, and even media storage....those days are over for me Pandora and Tune-In Radio + 5GB data plan !
Will also check out Nexus tomorrow at Verizon to remind myself what it looks like I was dying to get that phone at release date but now its not as sexy anymore.....

ps Nexus wins in 3 things: development, 720p display, and NFC. Everything else goes to One S
I wish One S had GLONASS in addition to GPS. HTC hasn't joined that camp yet. Does any HTC phone have NFC?

if you sell the one s, you will be making money if you buy the nexus off expansys cause its only like $450 i think considering all its features and that its the GSM version, so you wont have to make a contract with verizon. i was thinking about getting it too! still undecided though.
Checked out Nexus today....and frankly speaking One S is a better over all phone. Its much thinner, you dont even feel it in pocket, its much better made due to AL body, they have the same 4.3'' usable screen too.
now the screen on Nexus phones i checked out in Verizon, one had burn-in, and 2nd one was a bit off white compared to One S. The 720p resolution is there, but colors on One S seemed better. I also haven't really noticed anything different when watching Youtube or viewing web.
So in the end it all comes out to development and ROM, do you want CM9 or AOKP on Nexus or Sense 4 on One S (maybe later it will get those 2 ROMs as well)
Right now, I am keeping One S

I dont know what the deal is but Nexus has had screen issues ever since November release.....its ridiculous....i just have NO words (Nexus One had serious issues, dont know about Nexus S, and now Galaxy Nexus again....) I read people exchange 5+ phones in order to get decent quality screen.
that said, One S screen had zero issues and for that reason looked much better. But despite the excellent design and quality of One S, Nexus feels better in hand, but One S feels better in pocket because its thinner
I would NOT purchase a used Nexus without warranty ! I am gonna milk Google till they ship me what I bought, a phone without any issues. Thank God for their over night free shipping....
Hello all,
My Nexus 4 just finally gave way after over two years of dutiful service. I am currently using an LG L90. It's a fine phone for the $25 I paid for it, but the resolution and performance is a huge step down even from the much older Nexus.
I want a 5.5 inch screen and was able to secure the Alcatel Idol 3 for $199 preordered, shipping at the end of May. It looks like a great deal, but I'm envious of the performance of my partner's G2 with a Snapdragon 800. My N4 was not exactly snappy at loading webpages, which is my primary use, and that's something I value highly. The Idol 3 apparently has some lag apparently, most likely due to software. The battery life is also very important to me. The OPO seems to excel at everything I'm looking for, but it's at the top of my budget.
I'm hoping to get some opinions on whether or not it might be worth spending ~$365 after shipping for the 64GB OPO ($165 more than the Idol). The OnePlus 2 is coming out later this year and there's supposed to be a price drop on the OPO as they sell off their remaining supply, but I think the most we can expect is $50 off. Going through with the Idol 3 order and selling later is an option, but the resale value is not likely to be great.
We also have the G4 releasing soon that might push the price of the G3 down into OPO territory.
On the other end, I've heard rumblings of an influx of bargain phones in the US market like the Idol 3 later this year.
Any thoughts?

No its not a good time to buy an OPO. As you know Oneplus is speculated to launch two phones this year and right now they are trying to saturate the sales of OPO by removing the invite system. If I were you I would wait at least 6 months right now before buying a phone. But you alao gotta settle somewhere since phones will come and go but still its not a good time to buy the OPO

And i also said that you gotta settle somewhere. And usually companies release devices after a gap of one year so it makes sense to wait for about 6 months and then remain in exclusivity for a year.
Anyways it was my opinion so nobody is bound to agree to it and a debate on it is unnecessary.
I think this is the best time to buy it
1. Hype for touchscreen issue is way too high, hence you'll get proper support.
2. I think device manufactured after Jan doesn't exhibit this issue.

I think the only issues with waiting for the OnePlus Two are:
1. It won't be anywhere near as price competitive as the One, OnePlus have confirmed this.
2. The invite system will be back.
3. Spec-wise we're not likely to see much of a bump.
Considering those points, if I was in the market for a new device right now I'd definitely buy the One still.

to be fair my screen didn't have the touch issue until after 4 months of use. about the same with 3 of my other friends. sure it's good bang for its buck but having to restart the phone every time the touchscreen issue happens is a nuisance. it's a great phone when it's working 100% though. with that said, I wouldn't mind paying for this used, the g3, or m8 which is all ranging from low to mid $200s something to think about.

Exactly why I ordered mine on May 1, and got it today!! So excited to get back to home!
Does anyone know if it's gonna be in stock again before preorders end?
Nevermind. Saw it came back earlier & got myself a 128. Cancelled my 32 really blue.

wow that's QUICK
If you see a 128GB or other model out of stock, you should sign up for the waitlist. That's how I got my preorder for a Pixel 128GB Quite Black.
I just preordered a Pixel 128GB quite black as well. Too bad the wait time for delivery is over a month
I'm glad there is a wait. I already have the Samsung s7 a. D I like the small form factor of this phone. I'm sure the pixel will fit well in the hand. I need for the camera and battery life to be on par with the S7. Waiting allows all the reviews to be done. If there good I'll keep my order, if not I'll cancel the order.
I'm hoping for the price the phone it will at least be on par with the iPhone 7. Can't wait to see.

Yeah, that is definitely a good mindset. My Nexus 6P is great, but I'm kinda disappointed that they dropped the Nexus line (I assume no future updates aside from flashing).
I just pre-ordered to be able to get it early and if the reviews don't match the hype, I figured it'd be easy to return. I was really debating to get the XL for the battery size, but I figured that software and hardware as a "Google" phone would be optimized since Google controls the process so I chose the smaller form factor. I like the smaller form factor as well, especially since the specs are primarily the same. Just worried about battery life but I guess that should be answered shortly when customers starting receiving their phone.
Ideally, I would have it early so I can sell my Nexus 6P before it's depreciation hits rock bottom.
Since the wait time is like a month on shipping, I have s question. If I out an order thru Google store, and let's say in two weeks I can find something to be shipped quicker, can I cancel that one with no hassle before it got shipped? Do you actually prepay, or they will charge only when it is shipped?
They only charge you when they process the order. When you purchase it says preorder (status of orders, are preorder, processing ,shipped, delivered).
Right before your order is ready to ship they process and charge your card. I'm not sure how to cancelling works when the order changes status but it's fairly easy to cancel when it still preorder status
