Hey guys, i really love the one s, i wanna get it so bad but then there's all these other phones that are cheaper, have more features, just lower build quality (which might be a big deal) So what would be better, to wait for the one S till they lower the price a little or go with an Xperia s or Galaxy Nexus? i currently have an htc sensation and the battery life on it is killing me so that's crucial too!
I had the Xperia S and it was the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune of using. Terrible Battery life, unresponsive buttons, out of date OS and really clunky.
The One S is a far superior phone imo, however I'm going through a exchange due to MAO, apart from that it is a wonderful piece of kit.
Make sure to read up on GN screen. I hear (and seen) they have lots of bad ones.
i yesterday exchanged my gnex for a one s.
i just can say that the one s feels much much better in hands the only problem is that the resolution isn't really high you can see the pixels if you are looking closely.
thats the only "issue" but i would go with the one s.
although now that Gnex is $400 bucks.....it might be a good choice
I'm thinking about just buying a one s and selling it and getting the nexus to make money lol

Haha I am in a similar situation. I am eligible for an upgrade on T-Mobile but I have a fairly new GSM Galaxy Nexus that I received through work, which I absolutely love.
I'm juggling around the idea of using my upgrade to buy the One S to turn around sell it for a profit. I just can't decide if it's worth using my upgrade on since the Galaxy S3 is right around the corner...

wow, that was helpful thanks!
I ended up ordering One S today for $260 w/tax + shipping + activation fee (no $50 rebate here, I think with rebate it would have been $10 bucks less but have to wait a few months). I will also get $100 rebate back, so end price will be $160 (buy new 4g phone send them ****ty Shadow II and get that $100 rebate....that phone worth nothing lol...i am still gonna sell MyTouch 4G for $200-250 to another country). I also got $80 account credit few days ago....so if you count that in, phone was $80 bucks w/2 year contract.
I really liked the phone in store. Built quality is REALLY good. Nexus One and now this phone are the ONLY 2 phone that you just wanna carry without any case....its just so good.... I dont think none-HD or pentile display is an issue here. My BIGGEST concern is the development. Will play with phone a bit when I get it, maybe sell it for $400-450 or whatever it goes for and buy Galaxy Nexus.
Have to give Sense 4 at least a day to see if its any good....
oh and I have to play around with Bluetooth 4, I hear it has problems with some devices. If its not working for me then I am ordering Nexus for sure ASAP. Bluetooth is something I use almost everyday to stream music to car. < radio, CDs, and even media storage....those days are over for me Pandora and Tune-In Radio + 5GB data plan !
Will also check out Nexus tomorrow at Verizon to remind myself what it looks like I was dying to get that phone at release date but now its not as sexy anymore.....

ps Nexus wins in 3 things: development, 720p display, and NFC. Everything else goes to One S
I wish One S had GLONASS in addition to GPS. HTC hasn't joined that camp yet. Does any HTC phone have NFC?

if you sell the one s, you will be making money if you buy the nexus off expansys cause its only like $450 i think considering all its features and that its the GSM version, so you wont have to make a contract with verizon. i was thinking about getting it too! still undecided though.
Checked out Nexus today....and frankly speaking One S is a better over all phone. Its much thinner, you dont even feel it in pocket, its much better made due to AL body, they have the same 4.3'' usable screen too.
now the screen on Nexus phones i checked out in Verizon, one had burn-in, and 2nd one was a bit off white compared to One S. The 720p resolution is there, but colors on One S seemed better. I also haven't really noticed anything different when watching Youtube or viewing web.
So in the end it all comes out to development and ROM, do you want CM9 or AOKP on Nexus or Sense 4 on One S (maybe later it will get those 2 ROMs as well)
Right now, I am keeping One S

Sold One S and bought Nexus......Nexus getting exchanged now because screen is just horrible compared to One S. I dont know what the deal is but Nexus has had screen issues ever since November release.....its ridiculous....i just have NO words (Nexus One had serious issues, dont know about Nexus S, and now Galaxy Nexus again....) I read people exchange 5+ phones in order to get decent quality screen.
that said, One S screen had zero issues and for that reason looked much better. But despite the excellent design and quality of One S, Nexus feels better in hand, but One S feels better in pocket because its thinner
I would NOT purchase a used Nexus without warranty ! I am gonna milk Google till they ship me what I bought, a phone without any issues. Thank God for their over night free shipping....

Like others have already suggested, I would suggest considering android for three reasons:
1. I love Android
2. Right now isn't the best time to buy an iPhone 4 because it will soon be outdated by the iPhone 5 (but still a great phone for a couple of years).
3. If you're able to sign up for a new contract, there are some pretty amazing phones out now: (I assume you're in the US because you said $300) like EVO 3D, Sensation, GS2 (soon), etc.
Definitely going iPhone 4? It depends on the condition the phone is in... is the battery totally fried? Is the glass free of major scratches, especially on the display? Are there any dead pixels? Is the phone glued together because it was chainsawed in half? If you can't confidently answer "no" to any of those questions, you're taking a risk. Maybe a small risk, but still a risk. If it's ebay make sure the seller allows refunds.
Assuming there are no such glaring errors and it's just an average iPhone that has been used, $300 is a steal. I would buy it if someone randomly walked up and offered it to me just so I could resell it on ebay and turn a quick profit!

Thanks for your advice, you say right .
(if this is the answer you are looking for)
1. US$300 is a good price for an used/second-handed iPhone.
2. iPhone 4 is still a good phone even for the next 1-2 years.
Considerations tho' :
1. iPhone 4 will be outdated very soon due to iPhone 5
2. Android armada is in general better than any of iOS armada at the moment, especially Android in combination with the new flagships like Sensation, Galaxy SII or EVO 3D. I prefer the EVO 3D since it has a relatively bigger battery capacity.
Not a bad price if you really want the ip4.
-=JK=-
Some rumors place the price at around $200-$230 for T-Mobile. Considering I got the Sensation 4G for free a few days ago (and S-offed/installed ICS), I am trying to decide if it will be worth returning it and getting the One S for $200 within my 30 day return window...
As far as I can tell, the benefits over a S-off Sensation would be:
(1) SAMOLED screen
(2) Faster processor - S4 @ 1.5Ghz > S3 @ 1.5Ghz
(3) 42Mbps Internet
(4) Thinner
These things worth $200 more...?
Downsides:
(1) No removable battery
(2) Non-expandable 16GB storage
It seems like we can't get the Micro-arc oxidation version till June, and that is past my return window. I can also get Sense 4.0 on my Sensation, but thats not a big selling point for me anyway.
My girlfriend has the Sensation XE and its a nice phone, has the beats audio headphones if your into that which are worth £80 in the UK. It is a fair bit fatter and the screen doesn't seem as nice. I'm sure you can flash it to sense 4 as well.
To be honest the deciding factor is what you'll be using the phone for?
Will you be doing anything on it that will really push the more powerful processor? Does the form factor bother you?
How about camera? Thats better also.
I love new tech so i'd say yes go for it. Others who wont see the benefit of the new toys i'd say possibly not.

This. And the One S looks waaay better ^^
The One S is a slight upgrade over the Sensation. If you can get it for 200.00 on contract I think it would be worth it.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
I'm usually not hunting for the latest and greatest, so if I pay $200-230 on contract (which is high-end as far as contract prices go), I expect a phone with almost every new feature. If the One S had a 720p screen and NFC and perhaps expandable (or more) memory, I could see it. Sure there are trade-offs with thinness and the like, but if I pay that much, I would want the factors most important to me to be considered. After a certain thinness I don't care much more. 10-11mm is plenty thin. Hell, make the One S thicker and give me more battery life any day (a la Droid RAZR MAXX).
I think I've decided for me (since I'm not a tech junkie) the $200 premium won't be worth it. If my phone is free (like my current Sensation) I can forgive it for lack of 42Mbps speeds and the occasional slow down.
Now if the One S goes on sale or has a rebate bringing it $100-120...
Maybe I'm just cheap, or don't put much value in the latest gadgets
P.S. Apparently Costco will give me 90 days to exchange my phone! Might be a chance of a sale on the One S within 90 days. Hell, the black MAO'zed version may even come out by then.
i want to but a one x but i was wondering about the price drop for the mobile will it go to lower than 600$ after the SG3 is uncovered
and i would like to know if the video recording issue of 23 frame rate is a software or hardware related issue
I don't see the price dropping on the HTC unless the SG3 is ridiculously nice.
It's pointless to speculate when we don't even know the release date of the SG3.
i think the SG3 is on 3 may i dont think there will be much different between the two devices except the SG3 will have a better battery and better graphics and a micro sd while the design will be cheap looking as usual
i don't think that price go down so fast
but i hope it.
It really depends, actually. I know where I lived, the Nexus's price went down in about a month.. but that was with a different carrier. As one lead, the others eventually followed. I guess it just depends on timing.
I say sgs2 for right now and wait for stable roms to come out for the sg3

I could see this dropping maybe $50-$100 when the SG3 is actually released, the unveiling is May 3rd. As for the HTC One-X I dont see that dropping in price until HTC released a couple other phones later in the year.
I specifically asked the salesman at TMobile about the GS3 because if it was to come out soon, I would wait for it. he said it would not be until fall or winter. I believed him and opted to not wait and got the One-S for my upgrade/2 yr renewal. That was 2 weeks ago. I had an issue with the phone (lock screen would not unlock, Maps was all pixelated, random apps not working..) and got a replacement. I am still not completely satisfied with the phone (maybe I was just used to my previous phone, GalaxyS, but some apps I use on a regular basis do not work the same on the One-S) and now I hear that the GS3 is hitting TMobile in a few weeks. Is there any chance I can call and complain about the issues with my One-S and get the GS3 to replace it when it comes out? I loved my Galaxy S and opted for the One-S instead of the GS2 due to it having ICS, but really want to go o the GS3 if it will be available in a few weeks. Is TMobile going to tell me to screw myself?
the S3 is in stores everywhere from tomorrow here in Italy and Austria. (29.05.12).
Wow... tl;dr
If like phone, keep phone.
If not like phone, don't.
Same here I would love to know this.
Return in the first 14 days, and can't remember if that charges a restocking fee. 30 days for exchange and whatnots. Gs3 coming on June 20 and the day you bought the phone counts as day 1.

When you exchange for a different phone its 50 bucks restocking fee
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
I have not seen anything that proves the SG3 will come to the U.S. before the fall. There are only rumors that it will come in the next few weeks. It still has yet to be approved by the feds... so I'll say the Aug/Sept time frame is reasonable.
As the other members have stated you do have a 14 day return policy (if purchased at a corp T-Mobile location) with a $50 restocking fee. It is highly unlikely that if you are out of your return period that they will replace it with a SG3. I would sell the One if you really want the SG3 after I get an unlock code for it, and pay full retail for the SG3, or I'd add a line and get the SG3 at a discount, toss the line to a family member make a lil profit off of it, or simply pay the 200 etf and say 199.99 off the cost of full retail for the device.
Just my 2 cents.
Noone's mentioned this yet, but I'd be wondering why anyone with a One S would be wanting to switch to the behemoth that is the SGS3.
One of the greatest selling points of this phone besides its speed is its size. It's 4.3 inches, and is PERFECT at this smaller size. OP -- if you get an SGS3, remember that youre getting yourself into a device that has a 4.8 inch screen, and STILL has capacitive buttons. It'll be an absolute giant. One-handed operation will not be possible for most.
Just food for thought....
After having this phoen for a while there is no other phone I would trade this for I had the gs2 and the 4.65 in screen was to big for me and I have big hands. And development for this phone is really starting to boom

I had the same concern and asked but like mentioned above they will charge you for the restocking fee if your over the standard trial period, new customers is 14 days and customers over 5 years get 20 day which is cheap if you ask me if you've been there over that you should get 30 at least.
I'm torn myself and long story short a friend got the One S and now he's looking at ATT for the Note the only way this was going to work was buying in with the Buy-1-Get-1 free deal and selling one to get the money to get the SGS3 when it gets here.
I also put a few (the wife has no clue) bucks aside just in case because that's going to be one hell of a rainy day in the US when it does arrive.

Im pushing for the S3... I love the One S but........
With my provider, Vodafone UK, I cannot get a strong signal in any HTC phone, I had this exact issue with my last phone, The Sensation, I sent it for repair but they couldnt find a fault, I kicked up a fuss and they offered to give me the One S free of charge.
However i have the same issue with this phone, Ive sent that for repair too, Its due back tomorrow so i will see what they say in the notes.
If they find no fault im left with this device that has weak signal, some places it has 0 signal... I refuse to keep it for the next 13.5 months so im gonna push for an S3, Ive never had signal issues with any other phone other than HTC, I know its not HTC at fault either as this is a common issue with Vodafone & HTC devices, I dont know how this is possible but it is..
So it looks like the only other phone, Thats equal / better than the One S is the S3.. So lets see how things go.

Totally hear you. I had this issue on my Galaxy S 2. I actually barely got a discount on my One S because the 3 months I owned the GS2 it simply could not get a decent signal, even compared to my Vibrant. I almost paid the $200 fee and switched carries as it was simply unbareable. Of course my wife's GS2 not as bad as my GS2 but wasn't close to the One S but it just sucks when a phone has awesome specs but fails to do the most important thing well.
If the GS3 build design is anything like the cheap feeling GS2 and GS1 for that matter... count me out.
Yes ! Samsung's biggest failure is Build quality other than that i cannot complain, Except TW, but that would be gone in a flash (pun intended!)
Saying that, Every phone ive had has always had a case on, to add that extra protection, even on the HTC's ive had cases, even tho they are not needed. So i guess a case would hide the cheap plasticky feel...... If it has it of course !
OK... T Mobile's new promotion where they'll cover your ETF is very tempting.... I'm still stuck in my VZW contract.... my SIII, my wife's Gump-phone (LG feature phone from... 4 years ago I think).... But their new promotion is outstanding... basically, they'll pay my ETF and I can get a two line contract with TWO Nexus 5's (for each of us) and pay LESS than what VZW is shaking me down for now and give me what amount's to a month's payment to turn in my current phones.... all with only $20 down. Not a bad deal.
Now, I'm seriously considering the Nexus 5 (T-M actually wants LESS for the 5 than another SIII....), but I'd like to hear the God's-honest truth feedback on the phone... Not just "OHMAGHERD, ITS TOTES MAGOTES!" Where's the scars? The ugly bits.... the parts that even those with Nexus love think kind of stink. Does the battery blow? What flakes out on you? ROM support is lacking, etc...?

its a great phone!
but it cost less than the sgs3. google sells the phone for $349(16gb) brand new, tmobile sells it for $450, still less than the sgs3. just because samsung overcharges for its phones when new, doesnt make the nexus 5 bad. google sells them not to make a massive amount of money off them like samsung does with its phones, but to get the newest version of android out into the world. id say that right now, the nexus 5 is the fastest phone on the market. everything on it works, as it should. the camera is wonderful. id say nothing is lacking. and rom support/development.. its a nexus. nexus devices always have the best rom support/development, no other devices compare.
Take this for what its worth. This is the BEST (IMO) phone I have owned (I've owned quite a few). I get constantly 5 to 5 1/2 hours of SOT (or more depending on usage, flashing new kernel or flashing new ROM), more than enough power (even when under clocked to 1.5) and anything else you would want out of a phone.
The camera does all I need it to do for a phone (some say it could be better). If I need to take any better pictures I'll pull out my real camera.
Take a look through here.
I've got no rattling power buttons, no light bleed, no yellow tinted screen and no weak vibrator motor.
So all in all I believe (remember this is all IMO) one of the best phones on the market.

I'm already with T-Mobile and my JUMP upgrade is in 10 days. Being said I will go from the One to the N5 without question.. T-Mobile did just lower the price of the N5 to 396 which makes it $0 down and $16.50 per month... Keep in mind you do pay tax which is almost $30 per device plus the $10 Sim fee. So you should be looking at about 80 down.

T-Mobile sells the n5 for 50 more than the play store, but it is arguably one of the better values to take advantage of their etf promotion(since you need to buy a phone from them).
Its specs and low price make it a great bang for your buck compared to their other offerings if you want the latest specs. Since T-Mobile doesn't carry the motog, the lumia 521 is probably the next great budget phone if your wife doesn't really want a smartphone....
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the n5. Its a bit power hungry when you run the processor at full throttle, and the speaker is a bit tinny, but the performance compared to other phones at this price can't be beat.

I love my Nexus 5, it's the first android device that didn't have me wanting to go back to the iPhone and now I'm sold. Nothing I don't like about the phone at all.
I think you'll enjoy it.
Just keep in mind, you have to get the phone from T-Mobile for them to pay for your ETF. I went in yesterday and they told me I'd have to give them my Nexus 5, and get a phone from them. I told them no thanks and I'm going to pay the ETF myself by selling my iPhone.

Best f'n phone out there, imo
Some people buy the phone, knowing what they're getting and love it
Some people buy the phone, not knowing what they're getting and hate it.
Some people get a faulty device and get scarred.
Some people are idiots

I have debated between a Note 3 and the N5 for a while with the screen size, battery and camera leaning heavily towards the Note, but I cannot argue with $13 less per month and the fastest updates

I just traded in my Verizon S4 and had T-Mobile pay my ETF. I got the N5. So far I'm loving it. One of the best internals available and it's buttery smooth. I'm missing the 13mp camera. Pictures are alright and video looks amazing on the Nexus 5. I don't miss the IR Blaster much. The nice matte is very comfortable.
I love this phone. Would switch again.
