If you don't know what is imap idle, it's the email push.
do you know if it support it in the standard email client, not the gmail one.

Very disappointed from this. Very disappointed.

yep.. guess we are stuck with k-9 (or k-9 clones)

I have no idea why Google continue to not add this feature.
I ended up with AquaMail, which for me is the best mail client I've tried, others being K9 (nonsensical priority system), MailDroid (too many bugs and slow). The push email is lightning fast and I often get an alert faster than with Thunderbird on my laptop.

Emails

I have over 400 emails and my phone only showing me 100 of them. Amyone else having this issue?

I guess no one is having this problem?
I am suprised no one else having this problem, I guess I have a defective one.
I noticed this just a day ago. The POP emails seem to age off after 1 week or if they get deleted on the server.
My assumption is the email client on the phone is doing this; it should not, but there is no other reason for it. The only relevant email setting i can find is if the client should delete on the server.
I was starting to like Touchwiz, but Samsung really messed up the email client. I hope custom Roms give us a better email client.
I also have a problem with POP3 fetch. I have 1 Exchange, Gmail, and 3 POP3 accounts. Exchange works as it should, but the POP3 accounts seem to stop fetching overnight. Even manually refreshing doesn't work. I may have rebooted before or just waited... not sure.

I had the inverse problem. IMAP stoped retreiving my mail and POP3 worked
(I had 2 IMAP + 3 GMAIL)
Now 1 IMAP, 1 POP and 3 GMAIL
Email Client Is Too Slow
Why is the email client so dang slow?
It's slow in general but mostly when I go to delete emails.
If I select several emails for deletion they pop off one at a time every 5 seconds or so.
No other phone I've owned has ever taken this long to do something as simple as delete an email.
Is this a problem with just the Captivate and TouchWiz, or does it happen with other Android phones as well?
Will this be fixed in FroYo?
Also for some reason some e-mail clients like Eudora, has an issue with the stock e-mail app from Samsung, it does not have proper mail headers and Eudora will show up as gibberish. I have switched over to MailDroid and it seems to be a lot more responsive, less of a memory hog and actually has no problems with Eudora and other mail clients that require mime in the headers. As well as I got a -2 e-mail on an iMap account under the Samsung Stock E-mail app...
Cheers,
Charlie

Samsung email app use push?

Is there anyway to make the samsung email app use push for gmail?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
nope, it does not
you can use instead the Google Mail app that comes pre-installed in the tab. have used it in conjunction with bb9000-blackberry internet service and I can say the tab receives the gooble email as soon as my blackberry receives it. I have now discontinued the use of my blackberry and instead relying on my tab to receive emails.

Errhh! Yes it does!
You can use Exchange ActiveSync protocol to "push" your Gmail to your Tab in the standard email client. See herefor details (iPhone instructions, but the basic setup is pretty much the same).
Regards,
Dave
The K9 email client uses IMAP-push for my Gmail account. It also handles PGP signing and encryption. I'm not sure about Exchange though.

Best email app?

Can someone recommend an improved email app to me?
I currently am using the default program on cm7. I want one that downloads the messages as well as headers (default takes time to load each.) Also one that lists more emails at once and let's you search them. I really just use pop3.
Thanks

I Personally use K-9 Mail. Can anyone tell me though, does IMAP accounts support PUSH notifications?
Because I set K-9 to only update every 1 hour on the server, but if I send a test email I get it on my phone INSTANTLY. So is this constant polling, or is that push?

Yes, K-9 supports IMAP push(IMAP_IDLE) although it might still be a good idea to have it poll periodically as a backup. Here is a list of K-9 features with push holding down the first bullet.
One annoyance, which is not a K-9 issue but rather a google issue, is with gmail's implementation of IMAP push as it fails to sync read/unread flags. An email you've read in K-9 won't show up as read on your computer(or vice versa) until a poll is done or an email is deleted from the server to update other devices. This works fine with my school IMAP account so it's no fault of K-9 but rather google not pushing read flags for gmail.

no, you don't understand. My email comes through in plain text, hot html like an email application should since about 2006.
Oh damn. That sucks.
I have always forwarded my hotmail to my gmail account, so I haven't seen this issue.
Any settings you can change in your hotmail account? Is it possible to set it up as a POP3?

[Q] Looking for another email client

I really like the Gmail email client because i get emails on my phone almost instantly, sometime even faster than my desktop Thunderbird client. One thing that the Gmail client missing is the "combine" inbox. I frequently flash different ROMs, it a pain to have to setup about 8 email accounts every time. I did use Titanium back up but it doesnt seem to back up the accounts and settings. So i have to manually setup every time.
I've tried K-9, MailDroid, and Enhanced Email program from the market and they all are very good except they "poll" email every x amount of minutes. I like the feature from Gmail where it get email right away when you get an email.
Anyone know of alternative clients that have what i am looking for?
Thanks.

Hi,
You'll find that K-9 will work without polling and work instantaneously on Gmail and also on any other IMAP server that will suppport IDLE. IDLE is a part of the IMAP protocol that allows a mail client to sit with a connection open to the server and get notified immediately an incoming email arrives. This is also what Thunderbird on your desktop uses.
I use K-9 and get notifications immediately (sometimes slightly before, sometimes slightly after my desktop client) on Gmail. It's a feature I value also!
Cheers,
John
but that will eat your battery
Ive used the gmail clinet for abput a yeat now and been havong good battery life, assumimg thr rom dont have a battrry issue. If it worked the same way as the Gmail client wouldn't it be good on battery as well?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using Tapatalk
yes, thats google PUSH notifications. bit IMAP IDLE is not that. IMAP IDLE will eat battery.
But thats a server problem also. for push notifications to work, your mail server needs to be setup so and your client also.
Oh dam, that's sucks. Does k9 or any other email clients do that push thing??

none that i know of. if you find one let me know
I think K9 is the one. I tested last night by fully charge the battery, setup four gmail accounts in K9 then let it sit over night (with out charging). Woke up this morning and i'm still at 100%. This is about 7 hours of idle time. I will setup the rest of my accounts tonight and do the same thing again and see how it goes. I'm liking the result so far though. Maybe you can test it too so we can compare.

It is possible to set up the standard HTC client (at least here on ICS), using the Gmail Exchange active sync method.
To do this you have to add an email address in Mail and then do Manual setup,
Make sure you use SSL security, use your full email address as the login/username and set the server to m.google.com and it should work (well it does for me). YMMV

I will try this latter. As of right now i like K9. I tested it again last night. Woke up this morning and it lost about 2% in the 8 hours that i slept. So it definitely good use on battery life.
