Yea it seems gmail never fails to give me my email notifications right on time, right when I receive mail I get a notification no more then 2 minutes later. But yahoo seems to never update and I get my email like 30 min to a hour later. So this must be droid telling me if I don't have gmail I won't get my notifications on time. Very bias of the android OS. And it sends nobody has a sure
fix for thus as I have searched the forums and have used k9 as well it all fails.

Both GMail and Exchange mail support the feature called Push Email -- it pushes into your phone's inbox as soon as the mail server receives the email.
How do you setup your Yahoo email? I guess you used the POP3 email access which is pretty dumb and doesn't support push email (your phone has to check the mail server every so often to see if there is mail there.
There should be a Yahoo mail app created by Yahoo that also supports push email. You have to use that app in order to get the push email from Yahoo.
Hotmail now also supports push email via Exchange email support. So, no new email app needed.
I have one of my yahoo accounts set up on the yahoo app, but it only allows for one account as far as I know

Then, call Yahoo and ask them to support multiple accounts. Yahoo, Gmail and hotmail all use properitary protocols for their email in addition to support the old POP3 protocol. Gmail and Hotmail have the added advantage of supporting Exchange ActiveSync. So, in order to take advantage of advanced feature like push email, you will need the native client from the respective email provider or use Exchange ActiveSync if there is support for it. It is not any kind of bais in Andriod OS. It is the fault of Yahoo falling way behind the technology curve. POP3 protocol is created like 20 to 30 years ago. Back then, emails often take days to reach the destination.
BTW, the phone's built-in email client only supports 2 Exchange accounts max. I know Gmail client supports multiple gmail accounts as well but not sure how many accounts it can support.
Yahoo does have an app, whether it's any good is a different story. I have tried both, the email app and the messenger app and they are very laggy, almost rendering the phone useless. Then again ymmv
Im looking for an advanced version of the gmail client. Paid or free, it doesnt matter.
I need the basic functionality currently on offer (just for gmail addresses really), but with more options. Landscape view like in touchwiz would be nice, as well as better attachment options, etc..
Pretty vague but you know what i mean
Why not just use the stock Samsung email client?
Regards,
Dave
that k-9 mail is meant to be good
maildroid looks promising to , one free and one expensive version..
Try Moxier... thumbs up from me. Only cost 20 bucks

Nonsense! I get push email from my GApps account using the stock client.
Hint: Use Exchange ActiveSync, which Gmail supports.

hi,
in stock email app, i will to add a account for my *****@gmail.com
later, in account options, is possible to specify the "scan new messages timeout" that
implies the email protocol is pop. imap don't poll for new messages.

First of all you are wrong in that IMAP doesn't poll - it can use poll at intervals if you wish. IMAP IDLE is a pseudo push, and that is what you are thinking of, but it is still a form of polling in essence.
However, all of this is immaterial!
In the stock email client, when you set up a new account you enter your email address and password. At this stage, you could click next and it would set up your Gmail account as IMAP. However, if you click Manual Setup, you get 3 options:
POP
IMAP
Exchange
Select Exchange account and then enter the follow:
Domain\Username : [email protected] (or [email protected] if you are using GApps for Domains)
Exchange Server : m.google.com (for both regular GMail and GApps for Domains email)
Press Next, and then you get the option to change the "Email Check Frequency", which by default should be "Automatic (Push)".
Job done! True push on stock email client.

Dave
Wow, just wow. I didn't know about that exchange stuff. That's insane! Thanks!
hi,
i have configured my gmail account in order to send emails using another identities.
in gmail is possible to select the identity of the sender, but not in stock email app.
it's correct or i'm wrong
Thanks for the info, I just set this up on my tab and I can use the account to send mail but it seems like it's not receiving; also when I click the sync button it says unable to connect to server. very strange.
Thanks. It work perfectly in my tab.

AWSOME!
just tested this on my tab i like the mail app a little bit better then the gmail IMO
so it seems I'm the only one getting this connection error when I attempt to setup gmail exchange on the samsumg email app =(
Has anyone tried this with more than one exchange server? When I try to add an exchange server, the exchange button is grayed out. I'm guessing it's because I already have a different exchange e-mail setup?
Edit: Interesting - I deleted my other exchange account and I'm getting the same "Unable to connect" to server error message everyone else is getting. I even changed the domain to Google (using some old knowledge I used to do something similar to this to sync my contacts with Google on my old Windows phone devices: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636).
Any ideas?
I had set up several gmail exchange accounts, and they all worked. However i think that app is memory hog, it's slow, with buggy notifications and in the end i switched back to the standard gmail one. Did you notice that there isn't really any alternative email client on the market?

Ever since I switched from my Tilt2 w/at&t to my Epic 4G w/sprint, I've been obviously using my gmail account more often. Thing is, the built in email client, even for gmail & even when I try it with pop3, just plain sucks. Also, I mainly use my hotmail account, which there isn't really an app for yet. So I have two things. 1. To find a much better email client for android. And 2. To find a way to get all my hotmail to my android. Now, I can fully access and export my entire hotmail account from inside outlook. But I haven't found a way to import pst's into android yet.

I lot of people say K9 mail is the best. I would say its the best of the non-Gmail apps out there. I can't use any other mail besides gmail because I'm so used to the threaded conversations. BUT, Gmail could be better for sure.

Use Seven email client (latest version 7.5.4)with homescreen widget support
It supports Gmail/yahoo/Hotmail/AOl n more
It is push mail client.
I see that you've gotten some good suggestions. I just wanted to tell you to avoid POP3 at all costs. It's a very primitive protocol and should really only be used as a last resort. Use at least IMAP.

Hotmail can be setup for push just like Exchange.
In the email app, tap Add Account, then put in your email address and password and then tap "Manual Setup"
Tap "Exchange Account"
Set the Incoming Mail Server: m.hotmail.com
Leave Domain blank
Set your username to your full @hotmail email address (i.e. include @hotmail.com or @live.com)
Enter your password.
Tap finish.
I recommend to use K9 mail. I use it with my 6 email adresses - 1 gmail, 1 imap and 4 pop3. As far I know hotmail does support pop3, so with K9 you should be able to check all your emails, including hotmail..
K9 is a very nice email client. I've used it for about a year now with imap.

Using K9 with 4 mails accounts, 3 IMAP and one POP3.
Works flawless so far.
K9 mail client is useless as it doesnt accept Exchange, this is ridiculous
Our tabs built-in email app is perfect for me. Only problem i have is that I cant get my corporate mail to work. Gmail and Ymail works fine. Our office uses MS Exchange but we can only access through OWA (even my PC Outlook is configured to go through OWA).
I've been using Seven Mail for quite some time now but recently its not updating my emails well.
Any help would be appreciated.
Btw. Tried Touchdown, K9, Kaiten, Moxier, Maildroid but did not like them.

I use the native email apk for corporate exchange email and it works fine. I prefer it over touchdown.
In my case, I entered the email address and password for my account, selected exchange, then I had to change the user name to my corporate domain\userid. I also changed the server name to owa.company.com. I had to select accept all SSL certificates.
Our exchange service requires some security controls on the device so you have to set a screen lock pin or password.
Same experience for me as for grogzero.
Technically speaking, as long as you can access OWA and your company is not using Exchange 2010, the email client will work. Specifically, the client uses ActiveSync (technology used by Microsoft) and this protocol works over OWA. This emans that as long as OWA works, your tab default client should work as well.
In Exchange 2010, mobile access must be enabled on top of OWA to allow ActiveSync to work. Otherwise, you should email your support and ask them about it.
Can you give us more specifics on the specific situation you have to deal with?
C.
Same issue
I am having the same issue.
My company uses exchange 2007 with SSL and has some security features requirements also. (pin requirement for example) The settings I have set up fine on my iPad but I really want to use the SGT instead of the iPad.
I am currently using TD and it has worked but I love the split screen on the native email app.
Any suggestions?
the solution to that issue is upgrade to 2.3.3, actually this works for me.
call your internet provider and ask for pop3 port. For ex mine is 26 instead of default 25

Hello everyone
First of all, very very nice forum, a great place to learn and read.
I am having trouble with the stock gmail app.
itf not as push as should be!
does anyone have another app to sync gmail and get it push to the device?
Cheers !!
Stock Gmail should do the trick as it's the best there is for gmail sync. Mine pushes straight away everytime.
If you really must look for alternatives then try the Samsung email client as that pushes promptly or K9 mail for third party fix.
Are you sure that Samsung Email is able to push?
For me it does not push my mails, but I didn't try to fix it, I'm using my providers App.

the stock email app will push gmail as long as you set it up correctly through activesync...just google gmail activesync settings and put those into the email app

Absolutely I had set up my Hotmail (before official app) and it pushed every single email to me (although i had it set up via imap settings). It even showed all my folders that I had set up on my mail account.
I used both and neither pushed properly, they would sometimes and sometimes not.
You want a good mail app that will push? I can strongly suggest K-9 as one of the best out there.

and for using push gmail, I need to create an accout with which type of account??
POP3
IMAP
Exchange (WebDAV)
??
thanks for the help!
I'm using Gmail with K-9, when i first loaded it up, it configured it automatically without having to set anything specifically.
All I did from there was adjust my polling/fetching and push settings.
I've noticed even K-9 doesn't push instantly and sometimes not at all, but at least it's a better overall program I find then gmail and the stock samsung app.
I've read that it seems to be an Android thing, I suppose just another caveat you have to live with like not having a voicemail app.

Use Exchange and set up manually. Server for gmail is m.google.com.
The best e mail client is enhanced e mail available on the market.
