Dear All,
I purchased a 32gb Nexus 5 in White from play store UK.
It was switched on for approximately 3 hours. When it was originally switched on there were some updates to install which it did fine. I was using the phone when it suddenly crashed and rebooted. At that point it was stuck on the white Google logo.
I held power button and reset it,still stuck on white Google logo.
Held power button and volume down which loads the bootloader and in red it shows "Fastboot Enabled"
If I try to select recovery it just resets and stuck on white Google logo.
I unlocked bootloader and ran the flash-all.bat to reflash the stock rom. This completes without any problem at all but for some reason the phone refuses to boot into recovery pr main system. The only thing I can get into is the bootloader with fastboot enabled. Choosing any option always results in the phone getting stuck on the Google logo.
I am unsure if this could be a hardware memory chip error or something else.
If you are able to go into stock recovery where you will get an android logo with exclamation mark... When on that screen hit the power button first then volume up. This will get you into stock recovery wipe everything or erase it's the third option I think. If you want me to refer you to a video let me know it is for nexus 7 but I followed it to fix the same exact issue as yours on mine .

Sounds like you got a bad phone. I'd warranty it.

Thanks I have seen this video. Unfortunately it wont go into the recovery mode i.e the android with the red triangle.
It will only go into the bootloader. Any option chosen after bootloader results in stuck at white Google logo.
I have flashed and reflashed recovery and the entire rom plenty of times.
The key question is why can it not get into recovery despite flashing all working.
I will try to record a video and upload it to youtube because I have never seen this problem on any android device I have ever used.
Have you tried flashing a custom recovery?
Better yet, boot a custom recovery?
If you get that working, you can adb sideload a ROM? And see if it'll boot.
This is one reason I like a removable battery. I have gotten out of a few hung situations by pulling the battery for a couple seconds.

You can hold the per button fish for about 15 seconds. Works just as good as a battery pull

I was attempting to go into CWM recovery so I could make a backup but instead my phone went into the boot loader so I did a battery pull and restarted the phone by just pressing the power button no volume buttons and the phone still goes to the boot loader tried hooking it to the pc and ejecting it then a battery pull and then powered it up went right back to the boot loader Anyone know how to fix this??
Did you ever figure this out?

No I didn't my phone is basically bricked I tried switching back to the stock recovery but it still does the same thing so I called Virgin and they are sending me a new one when they have them in stock again maybe 4 or 5 days the rep said. Thank goodness I was still under warranty.
Oh well that's good. I wonder what went wrong? I just want to avoid it if I can. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, completely lost with what to do so hoping you guys can help me out. I am relatively clueless (but hopefully able to follow direction).
Heres the story:
Bought a Nexus S second hand for Rogers here in Canada. Been working great for 3 months or so.
The phone, to my knowledge, has never been rooted in anyway, hacked, etc.
So I have had Go Launcher and its associated widgets installed for some time. No issues. About a week ago I got an update notification for 2.3.6 (I was previously on 2.3.4, and even though I checked it never did find 2.3.5)
Now I heard about issues with tethering, and since I never had the search pop up issue I kept ignoring this.
Well today, the Go Launcher got 'stuck' while I was switching orientation( horizontal to verticle) and once it got unstuck recevied a ton of force close notices. I decided to power it off. It got stuck in the power off animation. I pulled the battery.
Since then, it gets stuck in the boot animation (rainbow x?). I have pulled battery numerous times, one time it sat in the animation for 20 min or so, only to restart itself and do it again.
I went to fastboot, and rebooting that way does nothing. Also, I can't go to recovery, when I do it restarts, and then the Android pops up, but eventually I get an Exclamation mark and Android and need to pull battery.
I don't think I can hook it up to the pc because I don't think I enabled usb debugging.
What are my options, any help would be greatly appreciated!
You need to flash the clock work recovery to put a new rom, first install the usb drivers for the nexus and the using dos flash the clock work recovery

Is that possible even though I'm pretty sure usb debugging is not enabled?
Any idea what caused this?
Surely there is a way to reset?
OK so did the rooting procedure but stopped before actually hitting the rooting stage.
Any ideas what happened?
Could it have been Go Launcher? Or maybe enabling orientation switching caused it to freak out...

Follow up to step 7 in the nexusshacks how to root guide and goto recovery mode now, select mounts and thrmen mount usb storage and copy a downloaded rom like cyanogen mode and goto install from zip and fromsd sdcard to install and then advance>clear delvik cache and clear cache partition before installing the rom

If you don't tick the prevent force close, a month ago mine were stuck on home screen and keep forceclosing, all i do is just install another launcher press home screen and voila
The android ! Is the recovery. Stock recovery.
You can try a factory reset from in there.
Or do the entire unlock bootloader and root thing. Unlocking will wipe the phone anyways so just try a factory reset from recovery.
At the ! There is a button press that brings you to the options. I can't recall for sure what it is though. I think it is volume up and press power but I am not certain. If you can't figure it out on your own just look it up.
You probably corrupted your sdcard partition while pulling the battery while it was trying to unmount. If that's the case your sdcard is now bad and the only way to fix is to send it in to service.

So just went ahead and rooted and now running cm7.
Unfortunately lost everything on the phone but had no choice. It was not possible to get into fastboot and use recovery. It hung at the exclamation mark.
Oh well. First time using CM7.... pretty good... mostly just seems to be stock android?

Again the exclamation mark IS the stock recovery.
Hi,
I'm new to this site and just bricked my white 16 gb verizon galaxy s3 sch-i535 :crying: I was running touchwiz and decided to run cyanogen 10.2, I had to install a bootchain to unlock the boot. Downloaded RomManager and was using CWM 6.x.x, went to install it, rebooted into recovery and it started going through the system update, it finished and was about to install gapps when the device turned off and has not been able to turn back on since my computer won't recognize it, i plug it in and it makes a sound and tries to download the drivers, then it just stops and won't be recgonized. tried booting into recovery/download mode, nothing. I left it and used my old gs3 for about 4 days, tried plugging it into the charger, light turned red for about a minute and I thought I was saved, but then it turned off and nothing. Is this completely dead? Does any one know how to fix this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Samsung is now offering free repair of brickes phones. You can try that?

With a good battery boot into recovery using the three finger method volume+ and home and power buttons. Hold it until recover boots.

hi,
i got a problem with my nexus 5 which is pure stock and unrooted . i think it was a SOD,the phone was turned off automatically . i charged it for next 5 hours. but still it doesnt boots up. i have gone through this and this links for help. Following the second link by pressing volume down and power button the phone wont enter bootloader mode. But when i connect the phone to a pc while pressing the key combination it enters the bootloader mode for a second and switch off then turn on again to bootloader and this cycle continues. Bootloader mode is not standing there permanently for flashing again too. also if i connect phone to a charger it keeps on showing google logo and then turn off and again this cycle continues.
Any help to this issue is welcomed.
More than likely corrupted data somewhere. U need to factory reset/wipe data. I've only ever used custom recovery but I'd assume that you could do this is stock. Have you tried holding both volume buttons down and power then selecting recovery in bootloader (some seem to have 2 bootloaders)

i have tried the key combinations ,the phone will enter into the bootloader just for a second and screen turns blank again and then back again to bootloader. this keeps on repeating and as a result i cant choose any options to enter recovery or reboot or wipe data. :crying:

Is your bootloader even unlocked? Sounds more like a hardware issue to me especially if you haven't put any custom ROMs on it or anything.

No bootloader is locked, pure stock and never rooted, phone is just a few weeks old. I want to confirm whether its a hardware fault or not. it never shows charging icon too. just android logo turning on and off

I would strongly suspect hardware issue then. These Nexus devices are really hard to brick in software. Can't speak for the Nexus 5 specifically since I haven't had it that long but it behaves almost identically in how you unlock, custom recovery, root, and ROM to my old Galaxy Nexus and I put that thing through the ringer with how many ROMs I put on it and never had a problem I couldn't fix by going into the bootloader and using fastboot.
I would RMA it if I were you unless you're feeling adventurous and want to use iFixIt or something. From the way you describe it, it sounds like the connection to the battery is going loose. Could be something else but if you can't get into the bootloader there's nothing you can do software side.
This happened 2 days ago to my girlfiiend and I tried any possible combination to make it boot, but i just didnt, i called google for an RMA because it seemed like a hardware failure because it didnt get past Google Logo , not even for the Stock Recovery..
Phone automatically turned off and never turned on again.
So i recommend calling google for a replacement.
My friends moto g is stuck in boot loop model is xt-1033 dual sim Indian version,in stock ROM without rooting
Got into boot loop after switching off and on since he felt some lag in phone
What do you guys suggest can I try something or should I sent to service centre only
He want to keep the data safe
I felt bad since I recommended to buy him
Any help would be greatly appreciated
edit :
finally switched off phone by pressing power and volume down after numerous attempt then left in power off for 30 min and connected to the wall charger now it booted into screen with android with exclamation mark under which written no command
now i pressed and hold power button for 7 to 8 sec it booted normally and i was able to use it
then i charged it for nearly 2 hrs
now i decided 2 boot into safemode to see if any 3 rd party apps are causing the problem
now it is stuck same boot loop will wait for 30 min and retry what i did earlier
edit 2
this time i am able to switch off by pressing lower volume button for 3 sec when fastboot loads then pressing power button
same boot loop happened when i powered on or plugged into wall charger
switched off as i have mentioned and left it like that overnight
in morning i plugged into wall charger
boom it booted into recovery
this time i loaded options of recovery by pressing power and volume up for 5 sec and releasing it
then i wiped cache partition
it switched off and on and booted into safe mode
did a backup now
have to reboot and see what happens after some time

No u don't need to unlock the boot loader to install the stock firmware. There is a thread in general section with the indian firmware and the detailed instruction to flash it. I am sorry but i am unable to post links
