Driving me insane. Doesn't matter what ROM I'm running, it does it 90% of the time for incomming and outgoing calls.
Anyone have any ideas?
Mine randomly does this as well. It's a rather unpleasant experience to have the speakerphone on @ your ear when someone responds to your answering the phone.
I've had mine turn on in the middle of a call once or twice. I thought I had somehow hit something not knowing it.
Had that problem. Believe it has something to do with the "car dock" mode. somehow it gets turned on or something. Don't really remember what I did other then try resetting it, pulling battery, or just smacking the crap out of it onto a table or something. I'm serious, not hard enough to break it but enough to fix it hehe. I'm actually pretty sure that's what I did lol.

I'm having this issue all of a sudden as well. All I know, is it didn't do it before I got the Gingerbread OTA update, and now it does.
Very annoying!

Same issue here. Running stock non-rooted GB. Also on wife's LG Phoenix. Could be something sent down from ATT?
Try going to settings - dock - remove check from Auto-launch. I'm wondering if it thinks for some reason it's docked and therefore defaulting to Speaker
Just found out that GoSMS was the problem. Updated on both phones and the problem is gone. They actually admitted to it with the update description.
I have the same issue. Went as far as flashing back to stock unrooted. Still occurred. I believe its a hardware problem with the usb on the phone. Something about the contacts crossing.

GoSMS Pro was doing it for me. Uninstalled and problem went away. I'm gonna reinstall to see what happens.
Just updated my GoSMS, and was surprised to see the issue came from there. It will be nice to not have to deal with this anymore!

Was there a solution to this issue? Because I have the same issue, but I do not have the GoSMS app.

If you read the thread you would have seen that the two causes of the problem were dock mode and also go sms. Not to mention this was dug up from 3months ago
Thanks for your reply.
Guess I should have mentioned dock mode does not seem to be whats causing it on mine.
I understand this was dug up from 3 months ago, but I am having the issue now was good back then.
Same happens with me... i hav removed dock mode also but still have speaker always on..
any solutions?
I recommend root and custom rom. Never had this problem since then.

Okey I am having this problem on every rom whether its ics or gb.
The culprit is carhome app.I have be after this problem since I got my inspire. It gave me whole lot of trouble. Latest one is force auto-rotate screen.
Another thing is u need original inspire charger and usb. If u have anyone thing which is not original. Carhome app will cause problems. Unfortunately my inspire charger and USB r broken.
The only solution is to open the rom zip delete carhome.apk and carhomeluncher.
How I come to conclusion.
I charged my phone then flashed aospx rom everything was fine no auto speaker, no forced auto rotation but as soon as I connected my USB carhome app pops up and
All these problem started to happen again.

Hi, I have the same problem with the New Att stock sense 3.0 (3.20.502.52) rooted ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810461
The Car Panel app was launching randomly, so I first froze it using root uninstaller, no more car panel launching, but my screen started randomly turning on while in sleep, so I completely uninstalled Car Panel, my screen still goes on sometimes, and it did not solve the speaker always on problem.
Cheers.

Once carhome starts there is no way to solve the problem.even after removing it problem remains.
Best solution is delete it from the zip before installing

I have found my screen won't stay off when I hold it up to my ear. Light sensor is very sensitive or my ear is shaped weird... Probably the later. I then think 'fat facing' because of this has attributed to random hangups and speaker phone engagements.

I'm here writing on tapatalk and browsing and have noticed that all of a sudden the WiFi will go off, drop out and restart. I hadn't ticked the : best WiFi performance, which drains more battery, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I also have he app: power manager and I'm not sure if there is an app doing that to the WiFi.
Anyone else had this issue?
Edit: definitely having this issue. Best performance or going manual on the WiFi Settings seems to have settled it. Hope HTC comes up with an update for it...

I also tested the static rather than the automatic solution for the WiFi, and it tend to drop equally. Only way it doesn't drop seems to be if I use the: use best quality WiFi, which reduces the battery life tremendously!
By the way, this is not happening during te phone's sleep mode, but during normal operation.

Not sure if it's related, but there are definite wifi issues with the one s. Mines completely stock, no power managers etc. It locks onto wifi points that that have always worked well for me (work, home etc.) with my desire and never disconnects. It seems in this mode it uses much more power and even gets a little warm. I can have left home for 4 hours and it still thinks it's connected and then has no data connection. The only solution seems to be to disable and enable wifi again. It doesn't seem to be able to roam from ap to ap without getting stuck on one of them
I think this may be an issue with Android 4.0. I have a Transformer Prime tablet running 4.0 and I get the same thing. WiFi drops out for a few seconds and quickly reconnects. I have noticed that it only happens in the first 12-24 hours after my tablet has been restarted though. After about a day running solid it doesn't happen.
I had a Nexus Running 4.2 and the wifi was great so probably not Android , more radi problem as discussed on other threads
I'm getting mine replaced tomorrow just to see if that will improve things. Unfortunately I was not able to make sure that the handset's serial number

Update.
The WiFi signal on this current phone seems to be spot on. No signal drop with any case on or covering the top of the phone. Signsl doesn't go to sleep along with the phone being on idle and overall really pleased.
I must also add that this new phone seems to have a remarkably better battery life as well. With my usuall use of web, tapatalk, a couple of photos a bit of WiFi, continuous account sync etc, on auto brightness, im at 13:20 and I have the phone on 83% battery when on the previous handset with the WiFi problem I was eating up the battery really fast. Usually I was at about 60% by now

I had exactly the same issue. Since I have changed the "option" / "wifi"/ "settings" / "extended" / "keep WLAN active in standby" = "never" (I don't know the correct terms in English), I haven't seen that problem anymore. I seems that the issue is standby-related, WLAN rescan won't start properly when waking up.
However, I don't think that this issue is related to the issue mentioned by the TO - it's the opposite.
I just noticed this issue when I left for work this morning. I have "Best Wi-Fi Performance" enabled, which was mentioned as a fix in previous posts, but it does not appear to be helping. When I leave for work and get into my office about 5 miles away it still shows as being connected to my home wifi network, when I try to use data like going to a webpage etc, it says "Data Connection Lost". Its like the phone doesnt know how to disconnect from a wifi network. I have the latest update to 1.84.531.2 710RD and still seems to have this issue. Have there been any updates from HTC or T-MO on this issue?
To follow up on this issue, I have called HTC and T-Mobile to find out if it is a known issue. They both told me that they were aware of the issue and that HTC is asking the carriers to report the issues customers are having back up to them. HTC said they are working on a software update that resolves the Wi-Fi disconnect issue. The T-Mobile rep said to have anyone else who is experiencing the issue to either call T-Mobile if they are your carrier so they can report the issue, or call HTC directly.

Been having this issue too. Called up T-Mobile and since I'm still within the 20 day window for return, they are sending me a new device. The girl that helped me didn't even want to talk about the issue or if it's been happening a lot. She didn't even ask if I had tried any trouble shooting. Just sent out new phone with free standard shipping. Works for me I guess, just hope it's hardware related, though I suspect it's software. We will see.

I did a factory reset on my phone and have been having much better luck with the WiFi issue. I think its definitely software related.

Not here. Factory reset was first thing I did (and always do) after applying the latest update.
I just noticed that on my phone as well. If I set it to beat performance the WiFi signal goes crazy. So I uncheck it and it works "normal"

I also disabled best wifi performance and have not noticed the issue since. I dont know if its because of the factory reset or because I have disabled best performance. I have also changed "keep wifi on during sleep" to never and that may have contributed to fixing the problem. I really have no way to tell, and now that it appears to be working correctly, I dont want to mess with it
Hello,
Something's wrong with my Nexus S. I have used this phone occasionally as I use my Galaxy S2 mostly but ever since the JB update, I've been using the Nexus S. I don't remember dropping the phone in the last week and today, out of the blue, the phone stopped vibrating. No vibration AT ALL. Not even when you turn the phone on/off. I tried wiping caches and reflashing the stock OTA that I'm using but to no avail.
I really don't want to pry this phone open as I don't want to pop its cherry but as a last resort I guess I'll have to UNLESS someone here has a fix or a better idea
By the way, I'm out of city and am stuck with a phone that won't vibrate
Looking forward to some good solutions.
Thank you and regards.
So it's not under warranty anymore?
Noop, I've had it for more than a year and a half now but it's been hardly used for 6 months in total as I kept switching in between to my Galaxy S2
I've tried tapping the phone in the right places, pulling the battery out, turning vibration on/off a hundred times, everything. Nothing seems to be working
Update: I tried using 2 other motors from different dead Samsung phones and none of them worked. Is the phone sensitive to the specific part that the motor is on the Nexus S? Any insight into this would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

I guess it wouldn't be a software issue, how'd it go with yours?
I've search high and low but it seems like any thread related to this was closed when the forums were split up. In any case, please report any screen flicker issues here and what keyboard you might be using and whether or not you're rooted. I bought this phone new and had a screen flicker before I rooted it. I figured it might be software related so I rooted and installed another ROM. I still notice it from time to time when typing. I don't think this flicker will ever go away. I'm now on CM10 and still notice the problem. I've been using Swiftkey from the start but I'm not sure yet if that's what causing it.
Thanks to TechSavvy2, I think this problem has been fixed.

Not sure what it does, but you will need to tick the same option every time you reboot if you're on CM10 official at least(I can't speak for the other AOSP ROMs.)
You got a screen flicker BEFORE you did anything to your phone tho? That's the first I've heard of the flicker anywhere except an AOSP ROM. Hmmm. And was/is it only when you used Swiftkey? If so, gotta be some conflict between Swiftkey and our phones. (I really don't care for swiftkey since it doesn't have any kind of swipe option. I use Touchpal, which is pretty good on the autocorrect/predictions especially for a freebie)
I've also had the screen flicker on my phone since I activated it. I am on stock touchwiz and the thing that kepts it from occuring every time i opened the keyboard was installing thumb keyboard. I really wish Samsung would send a fix sometime in the near future. I am hoping this is just a software issue and not hardware.

Ya, I know for a fact, I had the flicker before I rooted or even changed the bootloader. I've tried every rom out there and still have a real bad flicker every now and then. It does go away when I turn hw overlays off but by turning it off I can't use SwiftKey which really bites. Isn't this an indication its software related?
And I'm not sure if it's just SwiftKey related. I guess, I'll experiment with the other keyboard to test.
By any chance could it be kernel related?

It happened to my GF's S3, lets call this S3 A, screen fickers and with series of lines vertically, phone freezes, had to do hard boot, then the battery dropped to 3% instantly. We think it's the battery, lucky us, we have another S3, we'll call this S3 B, in which has no flickering issue, and we exchange the battery and the flickering did not happen on S3 A anymore but it did happen to S3 B in which has no flickering issues at all from the start.
And we noticed the S3 A battery is beginning to bloat (it is getting fatter than the battery of S3 B) maybe due to wear and tear or over charging.
So our conclusion, the battery is culprit, we've replaced it and we'll observe for about a week.
I can also experience flickering and very crappy battery life. Guess I need to buy a new batter then? I don't want to waste money if changing batter doesn't work so please tell me if I should buy or not.
I used to have a One XL on AT&T, and when I was connected to wifi, my push notifications (email, gTalk, and pretty much everything else) would not come in until I turned the screen on. It was as if WiFi sent to sleep when my screen was off, even though it was set to always on. Many other people had the same problem.
Has the problem been fixed yet, or is this still something that some One XL users experience? Particularly curious if the Jelly Bean OTA fixes the problem.
If the problem has not been fixed by HTC, does running a custom ROM such as cyanogenMOD fix the problem?
Thanks for any feedback!

That is a power saving feature, it turns wifi off when screen is off. You can set it to always. I dont believe evita really has a wifi bug, like any other hardware some devices are incompatible and speciaply with computers some adapters and routers have issues with one another.

As I said in the op, I did have it set to always on. And this happened at all hours of the day, not just in the middle of the night. It could have been an issue with my router, but I didn't have the problem with any other android phone. And also, it was a pretty wide spread issue.
