I've been researching this for a couple of weeks, and have finally managed to change the Flag of Knox on the Bootloader... at the moment, I'm no closer to actually repairing the 0x1 counter, but it does let us know that it is indeed software/firmware related.

Wow I thought aboot sent a command to the TrustZone kernel to set the fuse. Where did you find this flag? Newer versions of aboot will probably verify it using public key cryptography.

that seems to be done since the new KnoxBootloader came into the phone, it looking for matching keys and if they're not present well it will trigger Knox 0x1 and it seems like it won't kill your warranty, but i'm not sure how its outside EU but several people claimed that it doesn't void the warranty (except US)
Well as i'm not wrong it's even stated by samsung that it looks for keys and if it's not the correct key the Knox will be triggered and the TIMA (Knox) won't working unless you somehow contact a service center for help (but yeah it seems even if you've rooted your phone) which means you'll get knox 0x1 you're still able to get the Knox but well that explains much but seems to be not an efuse due to the mention by samsung that it uses keys and also that it can be fixed bla bla

Yes in order to be sure, I think you should try to reflash an old bootloader to see if the flag will be set again to 0x1. If not...

That's why put a big "DEV" or "R&D" tag in the title, and stick it in the developers only section. If anyone has issues as a result of it afterward, you can't say you didn't warn them.
As with many things in life, I'm sure the benefits would outweigh the costs if you simply shared your work.
Of course, in the end it's your choice and no one can force you to do anything.
But realize that there are other ways to go about this. A private hangout for example, or G+ community, or something like that. I simply think discussion would be beneficial.

I tried to root device for Titanium Backup and Adblocker and maybe to play around a little bit. At first I was afraid of this new counter and how bad it could affect my mobile life. I tried a safe method to root but at least I'd done anything wrong or it hadn't worked with my device at all. So it was an accident but it didn't change anything for me xD. I am used that Samsung devices are die-hard and in the past if something was to repair the most easiest and fastest way was to repair it by myself. So never mind.

I used Root de la Vega and it worked. But when I wanted to try out Knox it told me I'm unable to do so. I checked it and I tripped the flag. But it also has its advantages because I'm pretty much open for new Roms etc

Latest UK firmware - Knox Flag 0x0 - Rooted with Universal RDLV
But it takes much time to make sure nothing goes wrong. Maybe I'm getting bored from reading forums for hours, just to keep the knox flag at 0x0. If it takes too much afford or stops me from getting new firmwares, I'm not afraid to trigger the flag, because I don't need Knox and the loss in sales value should be marginal.

does tripping the knox counter affect the system integrity by any chance? a damage to system or anything? or is it just for warranty purposes so that samsung service centers can check for unauthorized modding? i am planning to get a n9005 note 3 myself in the coming days but this knox thing has me spooked...i read it everywhere with so many people tiptoeing around it...thank you

Self explanatory, warranty void 0x1....
Doesn't affect anything else except the using of the Knox security which is geared more for businesses anyway...

I didn't trigger knox on the 900V with the Kingoapp root.
To check Knox Status :
1. Power Off Phone
2. Hold Power, Volume Down and Home button at the same time till it boots
3. Press Volume Down
4. Check Status then Hold the Power Button till the Phone reboots.
Tripped intentionally .. look at the de la vega thread and cf root thread.. way simpler..
anyway.. who cares.. I live in europe.. the warranty is in the store.. not samsung.. the people working there think root is something from a tree ..

Tripping Knox is no concern at all for me and shouldnt be for any UK/EU personal user. I would never use Knox itself anyways, to be this is for corporate use not personal. I have Vodafone insurance so if there is a problem with the phone the Knox status is moot.

With you there. Problem is that there aren't many alternatives that are any better, at least in the US. I moved away from Motorola because of that. Ironically, now Samsung is locking down and Motorola is loosening up. My timing sucks.

Problem is you cannot root your phone or use custom firmware, or it will trip the knox flag. In some countries this means your warranty is voided. It cannot be reversed.

I agree I was worried at first but as my phone is only personal use I thought "who cares" ultimately if the phone fails due to a hardware issue it is still covered by warranty on most countries. .. I'm now on 4.3 rooted , phillz touch and Abyss Kernal ... I'm glad I did .. hope this helps

I agree, I have a rooted 4.3, activated warranty bit, for me it is not a problem, but people should know in some countries warranty wouldn't cover it even if fail is not a direct hardware issue but a sw issue. For example, they could think that if you have wb to 1 is because you probably flashed in any moment a custon rom or custom kernel > maybe overclocked > maybe inapropiated overclock > burn any component > hardware issue...

From a legal perspective, at a basic level no company has to guarantee/warranty you /anything/. They give warranties to attract customers as part of the contract of buying the item. However, they are free to put whatever terms&conditions that will void your warranty.
The reason you can get warranties covered even with the knox disabled etc is because in some countries the government passes consumer protection laws that make it mandatory to give warranties (because of unequal bargaining power - who really negotiates the terms&conditions with these mega corporations?). These statutory laws override a company's power to negotiate freely in contract, therefore they may be forced to cover hardware damage etc. This is by far from a global standard, so you have to know what your local laws are to know what your rights are. Samsung (and any other company) will always put in their t&c something like 'warranty does not cover blahblahblah; unless required to by local laws'. They're never going to tell you in the contract whether or not your local law covers it, their default position is that it doesn't.

I got mine 1 week ago, very happy with it, not a single complain, everything as good ss expected, nice screen, good sound, long lasting battery, quick and nimble responses, as a bonus, the screen is very grease resistant, my former phone was a S3, I had to clean it several times a day, the note 3 barely shows any fingerprint, Im very happy with this phone
All is well and good until Samsung's new annoying security features start haunting you! Lol! Note 3 is Awesome, But sadly, it could be my Last Samsung Phone....

It's just a secure container, mainly designed for business use and IT Managers and such. It can put data on a secure part of the phone also which no one can access except you. If you are rooted, your KNOX becomes void, therefore secure container can no longer be guaranteed secure.
I did not recive mine N9005 yet, so I dont know which rom on it
but I read that flashing or rooting will void the warranty, with my old note 1 flashing the stock rom will return device to official state, is it the same with note 3?

I had the same problem. I bought my note 3 in December and since then I was thinking about rooting. Finally, few days ago I finally decided to root my phone. And to be honest, now I feel like I have a new phone. Finally I could install apps like SD maid, greenify, Wanam, I could freeze/uninstall all this bloatware I have never been using like Knox, printing services etc. Now I have full control over my phone and I don't regret rooting and voiding my varranty (I used cf auto root)
My battery is a lot better now too!
Thinking right now about flashing a custom kernel to improve my phone even more.
If you don't worry too much about varranty, i would recommend rooting this phone. Even though this phone is one of the fastest devices now, there is still room for improvements.

I really dunno I scared really because the custome ROM will not add any new for the phonebut maybe disable do much features on it. I Agree with you that phone really do good and one of the best now but. .. This need to think about it so much so lol

There really is no downside to rooting, if you know what you are doing.

I'm caught in limbo too. I've rooted every Android device I've had and that is a lot of handsets. For me just to remove bloat and put a decent ad blocker on makes it all worth while. However, when it came to selling my Note 2 I noticed how hard it was to sell my device rooted. The only time I got any interest was when I completely returned it to stock and reset the flash counter etc. As this is currently not possible as I'm on 4.4.2 then I'm sat very much on the fence. I don't want a device that has no resale value but I wan't all that root has to offer.
I am broadly very happy with the phone. The battery is remarkable and it's as snappy as I need. but I am inching towards the rash decision to flash away and root. TBH the bloat stuff isn't bothering me and KitKat makes it easy to freeze apps... but I really detest all the adds in the browser and adds when using YouTube. If there was a non rooted solution for adds I doubt I'd even bother. The custom ROM scene is fairly ho hum by the look of it if you wan't to keep S-Pen functionality so which way to go?
Root it -> Install Custom ROM and Kernel
Don't wuss out after you start rooting, they joy of the scene are the new things developers can put into the device to enhance the experience.
The KNOX is your only thing you should think about, but once the tables are turned, go all the way in.
The battery may be friendly at first, but it can't be as friendly as a custom kernel built upon the basis of battery saving.

You won't lose your warranty because rooting or changing system software does not directly void your warranty i.e if you rooted and flashed a ROM, then a repair was needed, Samsung have to prove that rooting or changing the system software was the direct cause of the malfunction, if they can't then they are obliged to fix the problem at no cost to you under statutory law.

I'm not sure, but I have an experience with this. My previous phone (not samsung) is refused for warranty because it's rooted when I came back to the store where I buy it. And I have no time to argue with them, so I decide to paid for them to fix my phone.

Even if that's the case in your country of residence there is still a risk of being denied if you trip knox. You then face a lengthy dispute process to get them to honour it. In the mean time you are either without phone or have to pay for the repair.

Anyway, I just got my S6 2 days ago and I stupidly downloaded the latest update without checking if root was possible. I'm on AOF1. Is there any possibility for downgrading / rooting in the future?

As of right now, yes I believe your chances of root is hopeless unfortunately. Maybe after we obtain 5.1.1 update, hopefully.

Can you tell me what the lottery numbers are next week? Can anyone? No one on this site AFAIK can predict or see into the future. No one has any idea if someone has an exploit that they are working on or even finishing up. Kingroot 4.1 just popped up out of the blue and is allowing some Verizon devices on 5.01 ro be rooted...no one knew the day before it was released. It is ludicrous to say anything is impossible and will never happen in the phone world.

Patience, all it takes is patience. Chances of a KNOX non-tripping root its much less likely, but root will most likely show up.
I'm with you on this, i hate that there is no root available for the phones running AOF1 update, i badly want to root my phone, and wish the was a method available :/
To everyone who is on OF1...unless you bought the phone with that update on it, it is your fault you don't have root. You broke the cardinal rule of this community. Never accept an update from the carrier. No excuses. Please stop crying

yeah i get what your saying, i just got the S6, never really needed to Root, but after seeing the massive amounts of bloat they add, i figured it was time to look into options, hopefully something comes along to give me Root, for the time being it is what it is.. lol
