Is there any news as to when (or if) Google will update the Nexus S to allow for 1080p? Is it a hardware limitation?
1080p what?
Video output, video recorder
If regarding the camera, nope - hardware limitation.

I'm an idiot, sorry. I was thinking the iPhone 4 did 1080p recording which was why I was asking but it only does 720p which the Nexus S does seem to do now.

Nexus S does not do 720p (1280*720 res). Nexus S does 480p (720*480 res).

Oh... that's disappointing.
I love my Nexus S phone but it's almost the only Android phone being sold today without HD video. The camera's resolution should support 720p video (as the Galaxy S), and the problem is the lack of support for HD video by the native Android operating system.
Now, that the Galaxy Nexus will support 1080p video recording with a native Android, do you think the Nexus S will get it too?
No. our hardware is limited.

This is a question I am very interested in hearing the answer to as well. It would he nice to see HD video capabilities as well as the super fast shutter speed be provided by the OS to the Nexus S and not a hardware exclusive feature of the Galaxy Nexus.
It would also be nice if the update to ICS fixed the screen burn in on my phone caused by the notification bar.

I think it's the same camera as the Galaxy S

Have you tried fast burst camera in the market? Just until we get ICS. Works very well
Not even 720p?
i recall the nexus s not getting 720p recording due to codecs
Nexus s is not doing 720p video. It is not a limatation with the os.
Search the forum if you want a detailed reason why.
Yes. Do a search. It is a hardware limitation, not software.
Nexus s camera sensor is different than galaxy s sensor because they needed the extra space in the phone casing for the NFC hardware in our phone. The sensors are physically differant. The pics are around here some where if you search for it. It shows both camera sensors to compare.

So that means the Nexus brand will always have a lesser camera
The Nexus One had a 5MP at launch with no HD video at launch.
The Nexus S still have a 5MP camera with no HD
No, the Galaxy Nexus still have a 5MP camera when everybody else use a 8MP camera.
I can't understand why google equip their flagship phones with relatively crappy cameras

Ahh you are falling foul of the MP myth dude, MPs are a size issue so unless you are printing posters then its not the MPs but the sensor too. You could have a 12mp camera with a ****ty sensor and an 8 mp with a good one and it will take the better picture. It is also dependent on the cameraman too of course.

Someone can confirm that video mode have an image stabilisation option? Or this feature is only important for Apple?

The Galaxy Nexus has it, will the nexus have it nobody knows. It depends if it is hardware or software based.

Look somewhere is the settings, I think it's there
Ah man, would have loved 720p recording
I love my nexus 5, I just hate how it doesn't have slow motion video! All of the other hot phones are doing it nowadays, and google just left it out. Is it possible for this to come in a custom ROM/is it being worked on already?
Up
I'd like to know if it's only software related or it's also hardware related ?
If it's only software can we expect mods ?
Thank you
Please answer
All phones?? Only the iPhone 5S has this feature!
No Android phones natively support it.

The HTC ONE X have it too, if I remeber
There were a thread on xda to add this feature to the N4, but I don't remember if something was released. The socket of the N4 is in theory able to do this, so I think the N5 too.
I'm really interested to have this feature on my N5. I will try to find something
No other phone can do it. The iPhone 5S has a camera that can record at 120fps. No Android camera has ever supported this feature yet.
HTC one, one x, galaxy note 3, s4 can do slow motion video.

It's not true slow motion that you see on TV though. It's software based. They can't record at 120fps!
The 5S is the only phone to record video at 120fps.
The Moto G can record slow motion although its not 120fps

sorry but it's not software based at all.. I own a s4 and iy can record 120fps videos in 720p you can se it's actually 120 fps by furiously increasing file size when recording...

That is entirely incorrect. The GS4 supports it. The only difference is that the resolution is reduced while shooting slow motion, whereas I believe the 5S does 720p. The phone is actually shooting at 120fps though - it's not using software interpolation.

It is true slow motion video, they record at higher frame rates and replay at 30 fps. My htz resound had this in 2011, [email protected], the new Samsung's and htcs have it as well, they don't shoot 720p at 120 fps but they do 480 up to 240 fps (note 3). Also there is many iOS apps that allow you to record up to 1000 fps on iPhone 4s and newer. It is software related, also all tegra 4 phones can use camera awesome and record 1080p @120fps.
Bump. Is it possible?

No.
Sorry for revivng the thread, but Google mentioned that the N5 can do 8MP 30FPS with the new camera HAL they are working on. If we can have full resolution 30FPS, 120FPS HAS to work in 720p. BUT we still have to wait for it.
And now with 5.1 lollipop, look at what's possible today, lol
Does the Nexus 5 comply with this HFR-Recording Standards?

From Amazon their device listing here. Not sure if it's been updated for newer devices or not.

From every other device i have seen, if yours can't play hdr the hdr type won't display in the app.
Is anyone able confirm if their S8+ can or can't play hdr on Amazon Video? My experience is the same as the OPs (same with netflix unfortunately). Is there a way to enable it that I've missed?
Are you guys on 1440 or 1080 on your display settings?

I'm using wqhd+ (2960x1440) only, have tried with the video enhancer (on&off) and amoled cinema, adaptive and basic display settings.

Yeah, it's not a 4k screen

Google disabled 1440p in Youtube for phones that are not 1440,or are 1440 but do not support their newest codec.
It's a 1080p screen.. it's pointless to play video at higher resolutions as it needs to be downsampled to 1080p anyway
