Yeah, it's not a 4k screen

Google disabled 1440p in Youtube for phones that are not 1440,or are 1440 but do not support their newest codec.
It's a 1080p screen.. it's pointless to play video at higher resolutions as it needs to be downsampled to 1080p anyway

Is there any news as to when (or if) Google will update the Nexus S to allow for 1080p? Is it a hardware limitation?
1080p what?
Video output, video recorder
If regarding the camera, nope - hardware limitation.

I'm an idiot, sorry. I was thinking the iPhone 4 did 1080p recording which was why I was asking but it only does 720p which the Nexus S does seem to do now.

Nexus S does not do 720p (1280*720 res). Nexus S does 480p (720*480 res).

Oh... that's disappointing.
And another issue.
Whitch kind of videos is best for the J??
Hd? Mp4 HD? Mp4 720p?
Becase the firmware video is awersome, but i cant find the same format for this quality.

well you can enhance the quality (not resolution). if you are interested see my thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121645
Just share my experience although mine is Xperia Miro.
The device is capable to hardware decode PSP MP4 video(480P), H264 Main Profile @3.0.
720P videos that required software decoding are varies from case to case, it maybe smooth or lag if the video bitrate is high.

If by firmware video you mean the 'Xperia HD Landscapes' video, it was encoded at 854x480 resolution in baseline profile with a good bitrate.
In my opinion, the best settings are the same used in the landscape video.
Main profile skips frames at a high bitrate. So don't use the main profile.
And regarding HD videos, J relies on software decoding which in truth is not enough. So even if you try HD videos, go for a low bitrate.
Pretty much all phones with a snapdragon 800 support 4K video recording, but there was no mention on whether the nexus 5 will support it?
Not in the default camera app, 1080p is the maximum

It seems that I can't watch 1080p videos on my N5 because of an horrible stutter.
I tried remuxing the videos, and it seems that play is smooth only removing audio.
Any hint, please?
I've been using bsplayer with 1080p videos fine. Other players I tried had the stutter problem.

Or try mxplayer and turn on hw+ rendering, hasn't been a 1080p mkv I can't play yet

From Amazon their device listing here. Not sure if it's been updated for newer devices or not.

From every other device i have seen, if yours can't play hdr the hdr type won't display in the app.
Is anyone able confirm if their S8+ can or can't play hdr on Amazon Video? My experience is the same as the OPs (same with netflix unfortunately). Is there a way to enable it that I've missed?
Are you guys on 1440 or 1080 on your display settings?

I'm using wqhd+ (2960x1440) only, have tried with the video enhancer (on&off) and amoled cinema, adaptive and basic display settings.
