About Carbon
Huge thanks to Coderz for letting me port his rom from the MyTouch 4g and huge thanks to flinny/devil-kin for the kernel and some system files!
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.
Features
Simply stated, we can't really list features here. There are too many and they change too frequently, and we now support a truly insane number of devices. Chances are, if you like a feature, we have it already. Seriously.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Join our G+ Community: http://community.carbon-rom.com This is where we spend the bulk of our time and the best way to reach us and other community members. We update and frequent this community far more than XDA, simply due to time constraints and the convenience of G+.
5) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Remember, every penny you send to us goes right back into the rom. It's used for hardware, server costs, etc - all the things that help us make Carbon better with every release. Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

A simple google search "gapps" and ul find them and telling people dont install is just rude.

Tommypacker first of all thank you for developing for a device you dont own..... But why not build carbon rom 4.2.2 based on andromadus 4.2.2 ... I am saying this coz 4.2.2 is rock solid and very good base... Just my two cents..... Thank you again

Calls work. Speaker Works. Music Works. Headphones Work. Camera Works (including Focal) Wifi works, Gps works, Backlight keys work.
So far so good Many thanks
clocked to 1.2 (ondemand) to reduce the slight lag.
Also using Trebuchet launcer.
Good Rom will test the battery drain overnight.
MANY THANKS
I like it, I really do, I might even give up cm on my phone for it, but the stuttering animations kills it. Please find a solution because I'm really looking forward to using this ROM.

So, uh, you do know that there is an ACTUAL CM rom out, right? Those guys were all doing unofficial ports, which is awesome, but kmobs stepped up and has an alpha build out for the device (which is now listed officially on the CM forums), so the other guys stopped trying to port it...you know, cause its already done.

yeah and I know that but also there is sense 3.0 or GB out there that are made and devs take them and change some stuff to their liking or little tweaks here and there that users may like better than whats put out .....after all that is how alot of this android revolution started and as I remember back in the day that was how CM started ....giving people different options of what was put out bu google ............extra feature here extra feature there little tweaks and all ...........

Both ROMS are based off of CM7.1 which is still in Alpha and source is not released. I hope they will be back up and running once CM 7.1 is out of development and source is released. Also the CM alphas are pretty darn solid, so hopefully they will progress quickly.

Sounds to me like these guys want something that's released as alpha, to be ... not alpha right off the bat and handed to them on a silver plate?

CM has already stated, they won't release source until it's absolutely up to CM standards. Otherwise, you have dudes just re-releasing broken stuff when they kang the sh*t out of it. I don't understand the rage these guys are exhibiting over this.

1) Learn to write in coherent sentences please
2) There is an OFFICIAL CM ROM out! Official CM >>>>>>>>> the rest of the CM ROMs
first off... they're upset with kmobs for using security measures to stop winzip devs from hacking up the alpha builds they were kind enough to give us in the first place.
second off... cm WILL NOT open their repos until all temporary hacks and major bugs are removed. deal with it! it's their code to do with as they wish. end users should be glad they prefer to use clean code over dirty hacks.
third off... kmobs and company have been working hard for months to bring you the alpha builds you see now. can't you see how someone coming along and hacking their work up with 7zip, throwing in some minor changes (i hope you're at least using smali), and then redistributing the work saying it's faster, cleaner, and better MIGHT SEEM A LITTLE DISRESPECTFUL to the original creators of the code?
Lastly, the cm team has no problem with people using their work, but at least have the courtesy to let them finish it before you DEMAND they give it to you to build from and keep it open source. by that i mean dont take their source, compile and build it, release a rom and then never release any source of your own. prove why your rom is improved over the original instead of just saying it is. oh and if you do improve upon it, submit it to gerrit for approval and GIVE BACK to those you take from.
sorry for the rant but demanding someone release their source before it's even finished is totally disrespectful and i couldn't just keep my mouth shut.
well first of all i write how I wana write if u wana read is really up to u buddy if not then look at another post I think the dust under the screen is were he party is at ;-) .....and I'm sure people are not DEMANDING I'm sure they are asking ....demanding and asking are 2 different things .......and all this community is about giving props and sharing hasn't it always been like that ......is not like props or proper thanks isn't given ........ but of course people will disagree cuz that's how the world goes round .....
fan boys will b fan boys ......
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
Mmmmmm... No. What's been going on in Kmobs personal G+ feed is waaay closer to demanding than asking.
The ability to see that has nowt to do with fanboyism on either side of the issue, it's simply taking those rose-coloured glasses off and realizing that your favourite xda 'aosp from CM7' 'devs' are most likely not on this development path for the thrill of innovation, nor the joy of doing something truly useful for Android as a whole (like adding new features and such.) Nope, they're mostly in it for the length of their 'thanks meter' aka e-peen, and those clickthroughs/donations. Which means that they will certainly release roms that are based on an alpha, change a bit of ui wording here and there so they can feel justified in telling everyone that 'it's 90 percent their code', add a few half-assed tweaks that cause even more issues on top of that, and then claim it's the best, cleanest, most awesomest rom in the whole wide world.
Small wonder, then, why CM would want do a little 'brand-protection' that they are perfectly entitled to under Apache license.
But then, nowhere is it said in the big book of life that reality pills should be easy to swallow

Regarding there source, just let them work until it's done, after all look at MIUI! They turned around & based the foundation of that rom off of CM & now it's in Production... Don't get me Wrong, they put alot of work into it & I hope everyone understand what I mean regarding that.
Until then, just sit & relax... Have a beer or a case until they release the source for it..

OP EDITED..
This thread is dedicated for the bounty of CM9 (Android 4.0) on the HTC Doubleshot. kornyone from Cyanogenmod has brought TBalden into the project and has released CM9 for the Doubleshot. So please show some support, and keep this thread positive and productive. I shall try to keep up with the amount of donations to the pot and update every so often.
All donations will be made directly to the developer(s). I think some information in regards to who and how to send your donations will surface soon. I will make a new link and spreadsheet as well but here is the list of all donators as of 2011. This is how we say thanks to kornyone, TBalden and Cyanogenmod for the hard work put in. I don't think I need to stress how important it is to support our developers - they spend countless amount of time developing, maintaining and updating their work. I have moved on to the HTC One S but I will donate something as I think it's well deserved.
Here is the link to the CM9 for the Doubleshot thread.. Enjoy!!

CM9 is what we're aiming for. If Cyanogenmod makes it happen then the pot shall go to them. If someone else or another team steps up then so be it. Let's keep this thread productive and show some support - or keep it moving.
I'll throw $10 into the pot.
I don't know how or where I chip my money in, but when its time, original poster please PM me.
I got 30 on it.

Chill? We are chill.. lol. Stop posting jibberish and stay on topic. We are offering a bounty for a reason. If you are not with us then keep it moving. Posts like "chill"and "kinda pointless" do not belong here. So please if you don't want to support this bounty thread then keep it moving. We choose to support this and that's what we'll do. There's nothing wrong with rewarding the developer(s) for the hard work put in.

The bounty is for a stable ROM for every day use. This I can imagine takes time so we are patient. I would hope to see some kind of beta before Christmas but I don't want to push it. I will try to update the OP every night (EST) for the total of the bounty.
CM team working on ICS
Hello,
I am working with CyanogenMod on bringing ICS/CM9 to the Doubleshot. It has been a labor so far, but as of today, System UI works and multi-touch touchscreen has been implemented. I think this is more progress than others have experienced with the MSM8660 platform.
Anyways, I just posted an update to my G+ about it. Here a YouTube video I took demonstrating multi-touch functioning:
I will be updating G+ whenever I make a new step forward. Next on the list is Data (both HSPA and Wifi), sound, and other things that make it a phone

Yep, he updated the CM7 alpha thread to let us know.
Absolutely worth it. I'd much rather see him/them working on CM9 then CM7 since ICS source dropped.

I realize that, but partially disagree. I would like to see cm7 updated to fix the major known bugs. It shouldn't be too hard. Then I would like him to work on ics. Just my opinion, I'm grateful for everything he's done for us regardless.

Cm7 is buggy and we don't have full source therefore Miui is dead!!!! Once we get ICS we will cm9 and MIUI!

thanks but ive tried all of them red sonia to.... sean is a beast i like his stuff.. hes the only true DEV from what i see... but kudos to all that are doing a little something.. Cheers!!
There is a thread in the dev section about "compiled ICS msm8660". Best I can tell, it is full of a bunch of tallented people that are compiling code line by line and debugging to get an ASOP ICS base for this phone. If those people are not defined as "Devs" I don't think the word should exist. Plus, several great ROMs to chose from in the DEV section. Personally, I'd like to see more done with the "stock" ROM, but there are limitations as to what can be done to an Odexed ROM. It should be interesting to see what happens when Samsung leaks true codes for this phone.
Dude, why don't you do a little something then? Its called contribute. Have some respect for the devs here. They are supporting MANY devices in MANY aspects besides just ROMs. They also have families, friends, and full-time jobs. I have great respect for the devs here and I appreciate all they're work, my device supported or not. I didn't see what I liked so I modded a stock ROM the way I wanted. I didn't sit here and ridicule. I've researched, I've read, researched and read some more. I learned. I'm also doing my best to help others. So now is the tome you shut up or nut up bro. Have some respect for our ass busting devs. Not to mention pro bono. ****. Sorry devs and mods, I appreciate your work and wish I knew or could even do half of what you can. I am loyal. I am supportive. I apologize some people are selfish, irresponsible, and ignorant. Dev on and open source forever!

Hey I'm a noob technically... lol I agree. Do you're reading and you're research. But I also will admit that the ROMs I've seen aren't my exact flavor. HOWEVER!!! I will still say the ROMs are great work. The devs behind them are awesome. I in no way will ridicule the devs or theyre work. I compiled something I wanted instead. I learned how. By god I almost lost all my hair but I succeeded. And no I probably won't post it or any rom. Not until I get a lot more experience. So devs and mods I appreciate your hard work. I appreciate even more the info you all have left in various threads for us to learn from so we can CONTRIBUTE ourselves instead of flaming others for our own irresponsible ignorant a$$3$. Dev on boys and open source forever

Our phone has much better dev support than most other phones. You should be happy with it.

I've been contemplating this for some time now and as I become more committed to doing this I decided to come to the XDA community for input. Love it or hate it MIUI has done some things right when it comes to custom ROMs. The one big thing that I feel they offered that others have fallen short on is it's theming ability. Other parts of MIUI come with their pros and cons but the one thing that has stifled it's growth in the community is the lack of open sourced code. I've been porting MIUI on several devices for miui.us for a while now and the one thing that has really been a pain is the countless smali hacks needed to get a good port released.
So with that said, here's what this post is really about. I'd like to begin work on a completely open source clone of MIUI. I'm not looking to make this a 100% clone, but I would like to implement as many of the features that makes it a good and unique ROM. First and foremost would be getting the framework and SystemUI modified to work with MIUI's themes. From that point the project could be broken down into all the various sub-projects like the customized apps. I understand the magnitude of this project and it's not one that a single person can take on. Part of what makes the open source community so great is the fact that people from all over the world can contribute to make a product better and I believe that with others that are committed to seeing a project such as the one I propose come to fruition as I am, this could easily become a reality.
I've worked on large projects and I've done my fair share of android development both on the application side and on the ROM side of things, so I understand the breadth of this project. What I'd like to know is if this sounds like something others would be interested in both from a user's perspective and from a developer's perspective. With it being AOSP based and open sourced, we could see better support for devices which MIUI does not officially support.
tl;dr - I'd like to start an AOSP based project that offers an alternative to MIUI's closed source ROM. MIUI theme support is a must and if stock MIUI apps could work with it out of the box, even better. I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas about such a project.
note: I have the experience and know how to make this a reality with the right team and contributors. I'm merely looking for feedback and those that may be interested in contributing to the project.
Thanks for your time.
you know i love the idea happy to see this might finally be a reality, and count on me to help wherever i can. now hurry up so i can port it to the One S buddy
Count on me on whatever you need You are an awesome dev after all, this will be easy for you.
completly agree, its one of the big deciding factors to me using miui. its especially a big problem when it comes to updaing base versions like ics to jellybean.
i would absolutly love to have paranoidandroid(tablet/n7 interface options) with themes(and icon generation) and lbe integration.

Thanks superkid. It won't be easy though but that's why I think a lot of us do this stuff, for the challenge. And who knows, as the project matures we may see some of it's features end up in other ROMs, which would be cool by me. That's part of what is motivating me to take the initiative on getting this project off the ground.
+1 for this
This is the reason I love XDA so much! Great idea and I hope it becomes the best alternative to MIUI
Can't contribute code but will support it for Xperia Neo & Arc when the code is released lithium

Until there's something to release, this doesn't belong in the Development forum.
Moved to General.
It would be a great project. I'd love to see what comes of it.
LeWa OS
I know LeWa did something similar to this. It looks good, but could really use some improvement. I'm pretty handy with adobe illustrator if you need any design let me know.
I'm currently porting MIUI for Samsung GT-i9300 on AOSP base and really want to support this cause. It's a brilliant ideea, like the man who wants to implement it.
You can count on me.
Sounds awesome. Hope it happens.
A move like this is big and can only happen at xda. I'm not a dev but would donate to this project.

I stopped support for CM10, AOKP and so on because of a lack of support for devices. Also their code is unstable, sloppy, ...
I always have skipped MIUI because of the Chinese stuff included. If we can start a open source MIUI project with better translations I will support you and help programming.
I will only support the project if the focus is on user experience, and not crazy modifications like Cyanogenmod. We have enough of those. By this I mean color multipliers, gamma multipliers, vibration multipliers, ...
I also would like to support tablets if this is a go. I can also translate to dutch.
I'd be interested in supporting this project.. I'm a dev, Java primarily but I'm half decent with C/C++ so would definitely like to help out.. Always like MIUI but find it very laggy in general compared to other offerings
A nice idea, will be interesting to see how it goes!
super great idea good luck to all devs and contributors.
Q: is the miui promise to open source is off? is their github updating or dead?
Sounds good. I'm in.

Just finished compiling Carbon ROM for LG-G2 phone. I have a Tmobile version of G2 phone which is D801. If you want to check the ROM for Tmobile version then it's here This ROM is for AT&T version which is D800. So I was unable to test this ROM on my phone. Please make a backup and check if it works for you.
I rooted my phone and installed TWRP by following the guides on LG-G2 forum.
Download (still uploading) : CARBON-JB-UNOFFICIAL-20131208-0306-d800.zip - 164.35 MB [Please use the zip for D800-AT&T ]
I will update this thread with more details if needed.
About Carbon
Seriously.

Both nightly and release builds are available. Please note that nightlies are for development purposes. This means that they may not work properly, may not flash, may not build for days at a time, and will probably eat your cat.

Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

What do you mean finally, Houston built carbon a while back for the d800 and posted it in the original development thread, along with a few other varieties. You can find them in the PA thread in the 3rd post. Either way though, you've found a carbon rom to flash enjoy!
@diamond jinx, thanks for thinking of us!

I didn't know Carbon ROM was already out. I couldn't find one for D802 (Tmobile) so I built it and later built for other variants as well. Anyway hopefully this is still helpful.

Hey, I think that any development work is helpful. I wasn't trying to say you shouldn't have built and shared it, it's appreciated, Houston's build is no longer being maintained because he's shifted his efforts towards 4.4.

Build is running well for me. The only thing I seem to have a problem with is the lockscreen. When I have the "minimize lockscreen challenge" setting checked, the Nav Bar at the bottom is always activated. I can't seem to get it off.

I built it from the latest sources. The build I uploaded is working very stable on my phone. So won't worry whether they call it stable or nightly. Officially the team has moved on to 4.4 and they are still figuring out when to make a last stable release for 4.3

Battery is performance is great for me. Yesterday in 12 hours my phone's screen on time was around 2 hours and if I remember correctly my phone was at 66%. I spent most of my time connected to wifi though and during the screen on time I was mostly texting.
Yes it does have knock on and the remote app works as well.
I have the g2 from Rogers (Canadian) would this work on D803? Love Carbon

Great. Currently, I'm at 14h 15m on battery with 2h 25m on screen, and I'm at 73%. I was running CM 10.2 for a while, and the battery life seems pretty comparable.
