Ontrion LifeCHARGE Battery Case - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

http://www.androidguys.com/2013/10/08/ontrion-lifecharge-battery-case-samsung-galaxy-s4-review/
I just saw this last night. Has anyone tried this case out yet? It looks intriguing. After adding the case, you're looking at about 4800 while keeping the slim design of the phone. Definitely an interesting concept.

Pelvic bump.
Surprised there's not more interest in this.

Yes.
The battery is being charged 24 hours a day. These cases kill the battery very fast by putting them under that kind of duress.

thats why you just turn off charging on the battery case. duh. But having a battery you can swap out anytime sorta kills this idea. So................... but for some reason i like the idea. weird.

This. You wouldn't switch on the charging when it's close to 95%. I turn it on when it's at 5% or less.
My Charging Case.
I don't have the exact same model but I do have a charging case and I love it. My battery would deplete quickly since I play music while working and emulators when I'm not. It can easily go 2 full days and a bit without touching a wall charger and almost 4 days if I don't play games or music. Your mileage may vary depending on what ROM you have running.

That's why you don't leave the charging on...the idea of a charging case is to be able to have a backup when your phone is low on battery. Obviously for a phone like the S4, it's not as sensible because you can just buy an extra battery and swap it. But it's still a cool concept.

I too would love something like this - Something that would stop charging at 99% so that stupid damn popup box (Please unplug your phone to save energy) doesn't pop over my clock and stay on screen ALL NIGHT.
Unfortunately, i'm pretty sure that the charging is a hardware thing - so i don't think there's anything out there that can stop it short of unplugging.

if your trying to make your battery last a long time just plug it in before you hit 20% charging to 100% is not going to be a big deal. today's li-ion can take alot of abuse just dont drain them dead and expect them to live very long
Yeah I wouldn't worry about charging to 100%. I have over a dozen lithium batteries for my flashlights, and I keep them all near 100% most of the time.
Charging Li-ion battery above 4.2v is bad.
This app you asked about is very important. Charging a battery more than 4.2 volts dramatically shortens its recharge cycle numbers. I measured my battery volts, found that 4.2 volts is achieved around 85%.
An app that would prevent charging over 80% will be great.
Thanks.
Any news, any app which stops charging at 80% ?

You all make foolish observation based on you personal use of some batteries, of course this is not a reliable info.
You learn in basics of electronics that there is a quantity of energy that it is supposed to be put in a battery for storage, extending it's battery life, and also. Cientific studies show that maintaining your battery near this spot is healthier, so the app wold be pretty useful.
And no, comments like "I've had plenty of batteries, I make bad use of them and after a year they're just fine" doesn't disqualify cientific research.
This apps works awesome! Until this week, when the latest March security update came out, and broke it for Nexus's...Nexus'...Nexi...? lol. But it might work perfect for you if you are not on a Nexus, or if you are, and you're not on the new march update, you're probably fine!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-battery-charge-limit-t3557002
Oops, I spoke incorrectly. It was NOT the march update that caused it to stop working. It works fine, it was another app causing the conflict. I should have corrected this post sooner.

The best way I've seen, in my experience, to "train" a battery is to use it until it dies and then leave it charging overnight.
Yeah I would just let the battery do a couple charge and discharges

No need to do that with lithium batteries, they have no memory. This practice is from the old days of nickel cadmium batteries.

That may be true of the battery but is not for the phone.
Li battery's don't have a liner discharge and each battery has a different personalty lot to lot.
The phone learns the curve of the battery through discharge, so letting it discharge completely once or twice helps the phone more accurately display how much battery is left.
Oh okay guys, thanks fyi this battery is a huge improvement, I def recommend it, I actually used my phone quite a bit and from all day use only used 27 percent of battery and had data on, normally with barely any use id lose around 60 percent if not more with data off.. def like my thunderbolt again
edit: I'm on 3g only so I don't know how battery life would improve on 4g..
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
just to warn you.. i dont know what rom you are using, but keep an eye on the battery gauge while you are actually using the phone and make sure it's not 'sticking'.. i was running froyo bamfs on my extended and my percentage wouldn't properly update and i would have to restart it to update it or it would jsut randomly show up after a while... anywho i ended up going to GB and back to the stock battery, i hate how f***ing big that stupid thing is... its like holding a house phone.
You should probably clear battery stats and run a battery calibration app so it doesn't stick
Drive it like ya stole it!
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Yeah I always calibrate with every new rom install, but went ahead and did it on the new battery once I was at 100, the battery isn't so bad once you get used to it, the case can have a big difference on the feel of extended battery.
Mostly I love the fact I can use the phone to the fullest and not have to sacrifice anything and still have 70 percent at the end of the night

3500 mAh battery

So its been a full week of testing this battery on my infuse and no lie its amazing. It last about 2x the original battery with full usage. Use as in playing game for 1hour and 30 mins= average 13% drain. Use of Facebook,YouTube, and generally anything that uses the web for about a good 6 hours(not in use every min) average 27% drain. Then next day still have a good amount to last me through the day. First day around 55-65% and second 49-2 or dead. Its really nice, infuse not as heavy(pretty much same weight). Case fit perfect, durable and nice feel to it.

Something like this?
http://www.amazon.com/Green-Externa...347898124&sr=8-9&keywords=3000+mah+power+bank
Looks pretty good, only $17.25
Assuming you want to carry something extra around, I guess there are two possibilities:
Option 1 - carry spare battery (charged to something like 80%... avoid 100% to extend battery life)
Disadvantage: Have to open up phone (always possibility to contaminate) to replace battery, possibly daily if that's your pattern. Might confuse your battery monitoring widget program and possibly the built-in battery %-remaining feature.
Advantages: In the time it takes to swap battery and boot back up, you're done.
Option 2 - carry a power bank which can charge your battery in a few hours.
Disadvantage - takes a few hours plugged in to get back. Doesn't really have much way to know how much juice is left other than LED when fully charged
Advantage - don't have to open up phone or reboot.
Thanks for the info. Since I did spend some money (a whole $8 on my 3500 mAh), I will try to get use to it rather than switching. Hopefully, someone comes up with a case.
However, that is an excellent idea with the battery power back up for when we lose power (happens more than I would like). Keeping one of them around would have some advanatages.
Edit: cheap ebay 3500 mAh is now draining faster than my regular battery. Might not need to worry about the case...

Hows the battery doing 5 days later?
I experienced a drain on the 3500 and the 1750 stock battery for several days. I had to switch ROM builds but didn't put the other battery back until last night. Right now it is plugged in so I will report back in a day or two.
Edit. Using it two days now and it drains as fast as the 1750. Will give it one more day then back to OEM and Bodyglove case.

Battery lasted one day running really well and the next day (after recharge) drained twice as fast. Went back to standard battery and am using this as a back up now. Very disappointed in the quality.
I tried one of these when I had a captivate and had the same issue. First charge was great but it got to where it lasted the same as the original battery. You have to go Anker or Mugen for descent quality batteries.
I might check it out. Thanks.

I just got in my 3500mAh battery from the ebay seller known as battery gallery, and at 1213; I still have 80% of my battery left, and I unplugged it from the charger at 0800 I consider this pretty impressive, but it's only day 1 of using the battery.
I wish you better luck then I had. First day was good, second day okay, third day someone pulled the plug on the drain. Drop very fast. Of course I could have just gotten a bad battery.

Laza 3800mAh Battery + Cover

Since I couldn't find any detailed information or pictures of the Laza 3800mAh Battery + Cover and the Laza Smooth Case so I decided to purchase them both for $40.47 on Amazon. Even though my phone is white and the back cover is black, it's unnoticeable once the case is on.

Re: Zala 3800mAh Battery + Cover
I'm still in the process of testing it and documenting it. So far I get over 16 hours with more than 30% still remaining. You can easily get 24 with about 4 hours of screen time. You can even push it to 5 if you watch a movie. But I think spending that much time on your phone is unnecessary.

Re: Zala 3800mAh Battery + Cover
The first 2 pictures show the device always on WiFi. I easily got a day and a half with way over 7 hours of screen time. The next 2 pictures show the device with about 8 hours on 3g and a 2 hour phone call. This made the battery last only 18 hours but I still consider this a full day. Great battery, buy it if you don't think the stock one is good enough for you!

No, I use nothing at all. Just best use practices and common sense. One more thing I might mention. After doing the overnight charge routine I always shut my phone completely down and let it sit for a minute or two before starting it back up. If you use CPU Spy to check deep sleep cycles you will see why. If I do not shut down as mentioned my phone will still go into deep sleep but not as consistently, nor for as long, as it does when I do the shut down and restart after charging. Also, when powering on, if you have to wait for more than 3 or 4 seconds holding the power button before feeling the device vibrate, pull the battery for 30 seconds, put it back in a try again. Deep sleep is never consistent for me when I have to hold the button down for 8-10 seconds before I feel the vibration signaling the startup sequence.

NFC laza
It was not commented on so I figure I would add my two cents in:
The Laza battery has a NFC coil in the back of the battery, just like the stock one. Some of the cheap extended batteries leave this feature out.
After testing the Stock Battery NFC coil vs the Laza Battery NFC coil I can confidently say:
There is no difference in pick up distance or read/write speed on a Type A (ISO/IEC 14443 type A) Mifare 1k chip ( same thing as a Samsung Tec-tile)
Yes and No
When I ordered my battery they were out of stock of the NFC batteries. So instead of waiting a month for them to ship the NFC battery I asked them to ship me a non-NFC battery. So sadly I don't have NFC capabilities =(.

I wouldn't worry about that so much as total battery life.
Lithium Ion batteries are constantly degrading, and they have those smart circuits that may need a full discharge/full charge cycle to reset the low and high markers. That could be the cause of your observations (the high marker on your battery is no longer where it used to be, therefore the first 10% reading might be off).... but I doubt it because the phones are so new.
Yeah I'm going to do a full drain. Other than that, I love my s5 I always gotta get the extended battery
