Hello guys,
I have a nexus 4 device and I'm very pleased with it.
currently I have a charged credit card with ~20-21$ on it.
looks like a great opprotunity to buy a nice wireless charger for my nexus.
I've seen the 23 dollars charger:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300964279534
which looks great but am missing like a dollar or two to complete the transaction.
I have the official LG nexus 4 bumper case and my deepest concern is
that when ill place the phone on the charging pad there will be a slight gap
between the two and therefore the phone will not be charged.
Two questions:
1) can someone with the LG nexus 4 bumper case can confirm he is charging with a wireless charger,
if so, which one?
2) what is the best wirless charger I can buy for my nexus 4
in the sum of 20$?
Thanks alot you guys and have a pleasent day!

1. I have the bumper and the Ringke Fusion cases and they both work with both my wireless charges.
2. I bought a generic white QI charger on Amazon and a 2.1A transformer. The QI charger will work with the factory nexus transformer, but it reall needs 2.0A to fast charge.

Thanks for the quick response,
good to know I can charge wirelessly with the bumper case.
ummmm, can you please elaborate on the 2nd section in which you wrote about
the electrical connectivity?
what do you mean the factory nexus transformer?
and what is this 2.0A ... ? is it an adapter?
thanks mate :cyclops:

you mean the charger cord of the nexus is 1.1 amps?
if so, why using 2.1 amp transformer?
wont it harm the device or should there be some kind of a bottle neck?

Not the cord, the USB/AC Adapter is 1.1 amps. You can use with the wireless charger, but the charger should be used with a 2.0 amp USB/AC Adapter to work it's best.

You dont have to have a modded cable if your car charger already has the data pins shorted. Im using the motorola rapid charger too and it works fine, it will charge your phone as AC and give enough power to recharge the battery with navigation on. if you want something a bit better you can try this one , they ship to canada. My rapid charger broke so i bought it a few days ago. Reviews says the trident will give around 8-900mA, the moto charger outputs around 6-700mA.
I would only buy a premium brand here. If you see how no name mains adaptors are made... the risk of blowing up something expensive is just too big.
I wnent with the Sony AN-400 / 401, because it is rated at 1.2 amps exactly, is small, and was reported to work fine.
For some regulator disasters:
http://hackaday.com/2012/08/15/buying-cheaper-electronics-and-not-saving-money/ <- a USB car charger without components, putting 12 volts straight on USB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-b9k-0KfE <- teardown of imitation apple mains adapter, showing no output protection and very little gap between mains voltage and output circuit. Good info, but style of presentation is not my cup of tea.
So that is why I went with a premium brand.
that's one charger from one factory that some guy that didnt know what he was doing and ordered thousands, without testing them. He probably went for the 25 cent super deluxe model...
Well reviewed chargers from xda members here and not to mention the hundreds of people on amazon are a safe bet. Here's a 8+page thread on the charger i linked. Your premium brand name sony charger is made in china too.

1. Get a bullet-type 2.1 amp USB charger:

2. Add a "charge only" USB cable:

This combo charges a Nexus 7 (which requires even more current) with navigation on!

That looks ok,but I cant find a good quality usb charge only cable that ships to canada :
I have a el cheapo usb charger from ebay and I used my usb cable that came with the phone...and when i pluged it in it switches from AC charge to USB ever couple of seconds back and forth...so I want to try something different.
If you're into rooting and custom kernels, most of them have a fastcharge option where you don't need to have a special usb cable, or, attempt to short the D- and D+ lines.
Monoprice has a 2.1A bullet charger for a bit cheaper:

i cant say for sure until i get it sometime next week but i think so. im in canada too and couldnt find the powergen anywhere that would ship here.
There are some other brands that are good too but i like this one cause it's dual usb like my old moto rapid charger. If you dont need that you can get some smaller ones that will work just make sure they are well review and can output around 1A. The one that bfspider spider recommends is a good bet too since monoprice is pretty reputable store and will ship to canada.

You can try to mod this one in the mean time, just take it apart and attach the two data pins(they are the two middle ones). Solder is best but if you cant you can just use pilers and bend the pins until they touch. i did this with a few of my chargers too and it works to make them AC but it wont increase the output if its low to begin with.

FYI, this adapter should allow most existing "iPad" chargers (1.2A or higher) + any USB cable to work well with the Nexus 4.
The problem is that Apple products deviate from USB charging standards. As a result, most chargers try to be compatible with iDevices and also deviate from the standards. So when standard-compliant devices try to follow the standards, the chargers refuse to follow the standards, and the devices get upset with each other. Fortunately, they fall back and settle on a lower-power charging rate.
If you want to buy chargers that are very clear on what they support, check out MediaBridge (also available on Amazon).

So i got that Trident charger that you recommended....the quality looks good...but when I tried it in the 1A and 2A port with the usb cable that comes with it,it shows USB charging but when I use the HTC usb cable that came with my HTC one S it shows AC charging....its so confusing and I just dont get it....that HTC cable is a sync and charge cable.
The generic T-Mobile car charger available at T-Mobile stores charges just fine. I believe it is at least 1 amp. Its black, has a purple white small led indicator when charging. The USB end looks like a little block and the cord is an accordion type and it also has a a female USB slot in it to plug something else in at the same time but I believe whatever USB cord you plug in there only charges at .5 amp. With this charger I can run navigation and Bluetooth and Pandora and message at the same time and it will charge.
Sent from my often RMA'd Nexus 4, So that I can use the one I'm using now when I get the 6th and hopefully final one.
I just dont get it why does it with one cable show USB charging and with the other HTC cable AC charging?:S

Since the N9 does not have Qi wireless charging, it would be super if a cover with qi enabled. This exists for other devices and I hope for this device too. Any ideas?
To answer myself: You could of course buy a QI reciever and a slim case: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ireless Charging Receiver film for micro-USB
If only something like that exists with a micro SD slot along with being able to mod the N9 to have Qi charging. Problem solved.
That doesn't work with most tablets given it's low output. I can test it when my tablet arrives this week to confirm.
I can confirm the microusb adapter pad does charge. I did a few %. Seems to work fine but cannot comment on overall speed. 650mah output listed on the back of my Qi pad adapter.

If you plan on continued use of the Qi adapter could you report on it's usefulness beyond your initial impression? It's nice to know it works but is it worth getting?
Any suggestion as to brand is also appreciated.

It does NOT natively support Qi charging. The Nexus 9 uses a nVidia SoC, not Qualcomm (or the Samsung Exynos CPU). None of the current nVidia SoC's support wireless charging. Attempting to use one of those jankety cases with Qi support would be a laughing matter. Call me in a month when that 6700mAh battery has finally finished charging.
There are Qi receiver available charging with 1000 mAh. And 6 hours of charging would be really ok for me.
Sorry for bringing this back from the dead but I need some help.
I looked at a few of the links posted above and it looks like you can ADD Qi wireless charging to the device with a sick on pad that inhabits the micro USB port permanently. Is that right? When this is plugged into the stock USB port can you still have things plugged in via OTG like flash drives, keyboards, etc?
I don't care if it charges slow just so long as it keeps up with demand from the tablet. This would be a fixed installation in a truck as the headunit so it would ALWAYS have power when the vehicle is on.
---------- Post added at 06:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:07 PM ----------
Specifically, I'm looking at this model listed below. The Nexus 9 is a "narrow side down" USB device and this one CLAIMS to output 1000mAh. Would that be enough to keep up with demand?

If you have a Nexus 6, Moto X, Galaxy Note 4, or any other Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 compliant phone or tablet, you need a high output “Super Charger” like this one to get the full charging speed that those devices are capable of. On my new Nexus 6, this charger took me from 30% to 92% in 30 minutes of charging!
Pros:
+ Fast and powerful.
+ It runs silently.
+ Good quality build, including a nice quality cable and plug.
+ Quick Charge 2.0 compatible.
Cons:
- Bulkier and heavier than most chargers.
- The LED light is much brighter than it needs to be.
- The prongs don’t collapse, so they are at risk of getting bent in your laptop case or bag.
This Onite 3.0A is well made and very powerful. I strongly recommend you get this or another 3A charger like this if you have a Quick Charge 2.0 compatible phone or tablet. I received mine for free, to review, but am very happy with it.

note 4 charger(quick charger) is 9v,1.67A instead of 5V
note 4 quick charger is 9v, 1.67A. Though 5V 2.0A is also OK, while no quick.
Considering 5V 3A, maybe it is faster than 2A. But the IC will prevent from higher current.
I actually ordered and tested this charger. It seems as fast as my other 2 Amp chargers. All of the reviews of this charger on Amazon are from other people who've been given samples from the seller. Don't waste your money on this charger.
I'd never buy anything from Onite. Spam threads from them, like this one, seem to pop up quite often.

It's not like the charger "pushes" current into your phone, but rather how much current the charger is able to provide if a device tries to "pull" that amount of energy from the charger. A charger rated at wrong(to high) voltage will on the other hand damage your device.

This type http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scosche-Dual-USB-Car-Charger/dp/B00E1UWA4O/ the dual USB charger.
I've tried various cables (Note 4, another Samsung, Mini USB with Micro adaptor cables), they charge all devices, when connected to mains power.
Additionally, I've got a cheap 750ma output car charger, that was free with some eBay tat and that chargers the Note 4, obviously too slowly to be of any real use.
Does anyone else have the Scosche charger?
Should a non QC2 charger work, I'm guess it should?
Should I just buy a QC2 car charger?
The only thing I've not tried, is switching off the QC feature in the phone. But, I wouldn't think I should have to do that.
Thank you for any feedback.
********** Edit **********
Just to help anyone else in internet land who might be reading this.
I contacted Scosche and they recommend using a charge only cable to fix the issue with the Note 4 (and possibly S5).
I can't confirm this, I don't have a such a cable at the time of writing. But I might have shortly.

I'm using Capdase 4 ports car charger (2 ports 2.1 Ah & 2 ports 1 Ah) and it charge my Note 4 quite fast even without Fast Charging capability.
Thank you all for the replies :good:
I'll try the Aukey charger.
look for a car charger that has 2.1A output rating.

Thank you for the reply.
I decided to get the Aukey QC2 model, which should arrive tomorrow.
I bought this 2.4 amp MiLi smart car charger... works very well. Even recognized the fast charging. Simultaneously charged my note 4 and my ipad air at good speed.
Sent from my SM-N910G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I use an Incipio QC2 certified 12v adapter in my car that worked fine on Kit Kat but on Lollipoop I've lost the fast charge capability, only regular charging.
