TAP TO WAKE ????
Hello Devs and Modders
I have a question for you all.
Yesterday i installed to TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.0 posted by @icoolguy1995 downloaded for this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2410495
I wanted to install dark magic 4.2 on my phone using the new recovery, and during the installation and other process i noticed that the recovery got locked and a few seconds later the led blacked out as normal locking does.
Then to wake the phone i just need to tap the screen and the phone wakes up (i.e. screen get on):silly::silly::silly::silly:
No hard key is required to wake the phone during the twrp recovery, just a tap on the screen.
NOW my QUE is
Can we use this feature of TWRP 2.6.3.0 (TAP TO WAKE) to wake phone during the normal working.
I am completely a newbie.
But just a Query.
The Recovery is loaded before the phone boots (Plz correct me if i am wrong).
If recovery is not used then the phone first boots the kernel and then the phone (Plz correct me if i am wrong)
So if the recovery can wake the phone with a tap on the screen, may be the kernal can load some command to activate the feature on the phone normal usage. Just a hunch.
Please Dev reply
Whether its possible or not????????

phone can't be locked in recovery mod, in your case the screen was off due to minimal timeout ,
hence when u tap the device sense touch and backlight come again,
" i noticed that the recovery got locked and a few seconds later the led blacked out as normal locking does."
are u saying that u got lock screen on recovery mod . it isn't possible.
correct me DEVS if wrong

You are very much true. It was just slept due to minimum time setup (timeout). I have tries sweep2wake on my kernel but it doesn't work. Later I come to know that it's not possible to use sweep2wake on MTK SoC. I'm searching for some other solution. Hope to get the answer soon.

thanks sir ,
one more thing , any news for your upcoming projects :highfive:
I said locked as the screen gets lock after the time out set by me and after that I get a screen saying swap to unlock. All the features of recovery are in accessible when the screen is locked.
And you all for your replies.

That is default behaviour of twrp and there is no feature like awake on screen swap in twrp because screen never sleeps in recovery.

I think "tap to wakeup" is possible but it will consume too much power as the touch sensor of screen requires to be turned on.
I'm a newbie. Correct me if I am wrong.

How about the basics:
Pull the battery, charge it for an hour or so... boot in either recovery or boot loader screen instead of just powering up.
If u get one of the above screens then ur fine.
If none of that works, then follow the link from previous post
Good luck

Hello XDA-community,
I got a nexus s, i rooted the phone and got a custum rom up and running.
then i decieded to flash a new kernel.
Once done, i rebooted my phone.
The screen turns on, but stays all black,
I cant boot into recovery (volume up + power)
If let the phone on for 10 mins to see if it boots up, but nothing, i tried to dial my number on a other phone but got me straight to voicemail.
If i put the phone on the charger the screen turns on, But stays all black too.
I searched xda and other sites but could not find a solution, help appreciated.
What is your ROM and kernel combo? Do you have any other kernels you can flash? Did you make a nandroid backup before you flashed that kernel?

I cant flash anything thats the problem,
i had cm9.1 on it : downloaded from cyanomod website.
Android started up, everything was working, but i wanted to flash a other kernel: TNS132-JB-ALPHA12 found on ( i cant post links becouse i am a new user)
got a new problem: screen wont turn on at all only when i put the phone on the charger it turns on, but all i see is a black screen.
I have not made a backup whatsoever, i even didnt clear cache when installing new kernel.
I know i am a totally noob, its becouse i have owned a hd2 and i could do anything with that device wich was unbrickable.
the first mistake was not reading here for 4 or 5 days
prior to jacking your phone up
since you probably need your phone befor that...
pull the battery
put it back
hold vol. up and hit the power button
boot to recovery
reflash the rom you had working
now
rectify the first mistake...
By the looks of it you've flashed a Jellybean kernel on an ICS ROM.

You need to use adb to push an ICS compatible kernel on to your phone, then flash it. Like someone said earlier, your kernel is meant for jellybean (android 4.1), and your ROM is based off of ice cream sandwich (android 4.0). If you've never used adb, look up a guide here in the nexus s forums on xda, I'd link you but I'm on the mobile app so I cant.

Hey guys,
first of all, my powerbutton stopped working some weeks ago. I thought that not much of a problem, so I remapped this thing and perfect.
I noticed, if I turn off my phone, take battery out and back in, it restarts instantly. Seems to be stucked at "ON" or something.
Well I also noticed without touchrecovery, it's quite a problem to navigate through cwm recovery.
But there's still fastboot... naaah I couldn't find the phone in Windows to install drivers, thought that's a problem of Win8, but after that I tried same thing in ubuntu with manually installed drivers... still nothing.
Okay next thing, is, there are so many apps in the market, which install some recovery, autoflash stuff... Did that, (yeah I gave root access and so on) and still nothing happened, I'm still stuck with this cwm recovery and can't install new roms.
Now my Question(s):
Is there an Option to install some new recovery?
Is there a way to get Fastboot working?
Is there a way to get the Powerbutton in this state back to work?
Or kinda best worst case, is there an option to get my Nexus back to Stock and unroot to send it in, I still got warranty but this would require stock phone...!
Thanks!

Can you boot all the way up into your android os?.. If so, you can use NEXUS ROOT TOOL KIT to flash to stock and relock it so it's "stock" for waranty..

Hmmm.... Ebay..
have you tried flash touch recovery with ROM Manager app?
---------- Post added at 03:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:30 PM ----------
Edit:
Try capacitive buttons on your current recovery. On my current recovery the search button makes the same that the power button, so if in your recovery the button have the same behaviour then you can easily flash a stock rom
Okay, i just got told: "If the power button is always pressed, fast boot does not react on input from keys or over adb.."
Hope that's not the "notsolution" for my problem... ^^

okay guys, just flashed touch recovery via Flash_image

hope it helps you, if you cant access fastboot, too.. It's a bit tricky, but totally worth it
So, for about a week now my power button hasn't been working and since I can't afford to fix it I've just installed an app that lets me lock and unlock my phone with the sensitivity sensor. All was fine until just a couple of minutes ago when the touch screen suddenly stopped working. And I really do mean suddenly, I was in the middle of writing a text. I've tried restarting the phone several times but to not avail. I also can't reinstall my rom asI can't boot into recovery since the power button is not working. The time also changed randomly after the screen stopped working, it's ahead by 2 hours now. So, I'd like to know if this could be a software or hardware problem. Any help will be appreciated.
U need to provide more info. Let's start with the name of the ROM you have.
U can always boot into recovery using adb, the command would be 'adb reboot recovery'. My power button is still working but non the less I still use the command always.

when you put the battery the phone auto turns on?
when it reboots it vibrates everytime?
Connect your phone to charger once it vibrates for the first time when you boot into recovery mode.
And do you have root access?

2 years passed... this brings some memories
yeah basically your power button is broken, just think about it. Think that your power button is always being pressed, that explains why it keeps rebooting and it autoboots. Just go to a service to request button change, shouldn't be expensive. Or you could try inspecting it yourself, maybe just some dust got in (usually its dirty there)

Dear shadowsDie
Thank you
I did all you mentioned above about power key and found it perfectly working.
After checking it the phone doesn't start itself.
But when i start it stuck in the first screen with yellow triangle for some time then it power Off and start automatically repeating the same steps.
I went to recovery mode and made factory rest and wiped every thing
and when trying to flash CWM.md5.trebon it say
Installation aborted
Then i tried another version of CWM using Odin it passed successfully
But when it reboot it stuck again
What can i do

buddy, you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426426
you should to whatever you can so you flash stock using odin, by stock i mean EVERYTHING including bootloader, recovery etc.
if odin gives you error, try to find out if its because of your phone or your pc, as odin tends to give a lot of errors based on drivers and usb ports.
in the case neither a full wipe on the system and all partition works, its totally a hardware issue.
honestly im pretty sure now that its a hardware thing, but the least i can do is to make you try the full wipe
edit: forgot to tell you about the power button.
if you say it didnt autobooted after checking it still could be the button, as when you powered the device up you still used the button which probably got stuck again and continued his buggy purpose.
to fix that , you should follow something like this www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=3Glllc7bEJs but specifically for the ace plus. I dont know if its connected or soldiered because i no longer have the device so cant help you here
