Always Roaming - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just rooted, unlocked bootloader, and flashed some custom roms yesterday on my second S3, and for some reason I am now always "roaming" so I don't have any cell service or data. Can anyone help?

Check to see if you've lost your imei and eri. Go to Settings>About Phone>Status. Your imei should read the number under your battery and your eri should say 5. If they say zero and none respectively you've lost them. Let me know if that's what's wrong and I'll point you in the right direction. I'm currently at work right now. Should be home in just over an hour.
Sent from the S3 of The Afro Samurai

check your mobile network settings and make sure to uncheck the two roaming setting then make sure your mode is on CDMA+LTE/EVDO and system select to home only and cdma subscription to NV then turn on airplane mode then turn it off and change the NV to RUIM/SIM

I had a similar issue when I flashed to a Carbon Rom nightly (I think 9/10). Anyway try sending an MMS message to someone. If it can get through, 4G LTE works. You are having an issue with 3G and/or CDMA. Now I tried these steps that SlimSnoopOS suggested. None of them worked for me, but hopefully they work for you.
If they don't I'd flash back to complete stock. If data is STILL not working something that oddly worked for me was TriangleAway. My binary flash counter had been tripped and after running TriangleAway my mobile data came back. Not too sure on that one...

3G data problem? And Gmail sync issue..

Hey guys sorry of i missed the answer in another post. But has any one had data problems. nMy thunderbolt wil say I have a full signal of 3g but i still cant use data.... browser will time out on any page i use.
Also i use the HTC email app with Gmail PUSH with exchange and i will get non stop erros syncing gmail.......or will continue to sync over and over and over... Itll work at first then like an hour later ill get errors.
Anyone else??
Same data issues here. Rooted thunderbolt but no data except wifi. Restored from virus rom back to stock but no help.
So far the only thing that's worked is 3g kicked on when I did a check for software update but it didnt work for anything else and it was gone after reboot.
Checking to see if factory reset will mess up root.
i haven't had any 3g connectivity issues, but i have seen this tip tossed around for those that are experiencing the problem:
http://nokiafanboy.com/2011/04/04/h...nd-tricks-how-to-solve-3g-connectivity-issue/
as for a factory reset, it won't remove ROOT. it simply wipes all data from your phone (SDCARD is left untouched)
Sherwood1 ,
The method linked by shock2sys worked for me. Rebooted and data came right up. Emails, market updates, etc.
With any luck 4g is being tested in my area.
Thanks shock2sys
I had no 3G either
So
1. I dial ##778#
2.tap edit mode
3.password. is 000000
4.tap on modem settings
5.tap Rev.A
6.Tap on enable
7.Tap on the menu on your phone
8.Tap on Commit modifications
And after you do that your phone should reboot and you should have 3g
-Monky_1
thanks guys
Has anyone who have tried the ##778 method have the issue w/ losing data, (3G disappearing then coming back to 1x, then to 3G)? I'm still having that problem.
Do all this steps.
1. I dial ##778#
2.tap edit mode
3.password. is 000000
4.tap on modem settings
5.tap Rev.A
6.Tap on enable
7.Tap on the menu on your phone
8.Tap on Commit modifications
And after you do that your phone should reboot and you should have 3g
THEN AFTER THE REBOOT
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Okay now scroll to the bottom. the box should say "LTE MODE" I have no 4G service in my area. So I only got. 1x. I changed my radio settings to auto PRL. Its 3G only saves battery.

Gave that a whirl w/ no luck. My problem is I'm losing all data sporadically and frequently. I'll call Verizon about it.
Edit:
Just unrooted and am completely stock and the problem w/ losing my data seems to have gone away. A bit of a head scratcher.

Unable to get out of roaming

Before people say there are other threads, I have not been able to have any luck with those.
First I tried the Odin Proper Rooted Stock image and proceeding to type in *2767*3855#. That didn't do anything. It would flash the hollow triangle above my signal but then just solid R after using the code.
I also tried the VRALG1 version and still no luck.
I tried going back to a backup from a month ago with titanium back up on CM10. Still no help.
I looked at taking the sim card out and telling the CDMA not to be on NV, however my phone was already selected on the other choice.
I installed CM 10.1 and registered without sim card, and then then rebooted with sim card in. Nope
Now I didn't see anyone with quite the same deal where if I was on wifi I can make phone calls and text. The moment I go off though it reverts to roaming.
Any ideas?
Yea I am on Verizon. I'm using the 10.1.0 stable release of cyanogenmod. Running Clockwork 6.0.3.1. But I had tried stock with root and stock with no root 4.0.4 and 4.1.1. Baseband I535VRLF2. I used Ez-unlock for bootloader. How do I find my PRL and ERI?
PRL = 15233
MEID all 0's
IMEI = 0
DIdn't see the ERI
So I updated my towers to the MB1 and now on the settings of mobile network settings -> system select -> home only, I can text and have 4g at the same time. Still not able to make phone calls unless I set the system select to automatic then I can make roaming calls. However, after about 30 minutes it goes back to roaming and sometimes it goes back, or I have to switch into airplane mode to reset it.
On MD3 it was like MF1 where on home only I could use 4g but no texting or calling. Then vice versa on automatic I could text and make roaming calls without 4g.
When I looked at section D repair, I clicked the link and it said it was an invalid location.
if you can, get your hands on the xda samsung repair utility...it will fix it
struggling to find and answer
For a few days I've been trying to figure out how to fix my roaming issue. I had an imei number, then ran a program that set it to zero. I used QPST to write it back to the phone. my phone shows no ERI version. I am currently not able to call out but I do have internet access and can receive texts. I've bee searching the internet for the "xda Samsung repair utility" program, but I've been unable to find it. If you've found it and it works, please let me know where I can get it. Thanks
The only thing I see for repairing the ERI involves that XDA Samsung Repair Utility which I cannot find.

Help request: LTE Data works,"no service" otherwise. IMEI/number, but no texts/calls.

Software: Android 5.0.1 Skydragon M8 v2.0 Sense 7
Many people have posted issues with LTE where their cellular signal was fine for "2G" functions like calls and texts.
I'm having the opposite problem. After leaving airplane mode (landing at an airport today), I have a "No Service" message in the status bar drop down (notification tray), and the Settings>Network information page shows "Not Registered." However, I do have an IMEI (see details below). However, LTE data works perfectly fine.
I've obviously tried changing the settings in Settings>Mobile Data (preferred network to Global / LTE / LTE/legacy 3GPP mode) connection type global/auto/LTE/etc), to no avail. If LTE is connected it works flawlessly, but I cannot make calls or texts, and show not registered on the network. Data roaming is set to deny, but even allowing roaming does not change the situation.
Before this happened, I HAD gone through all the XTended Settings, and even 'looked' at (but did NOT change) some advanced settings pages, including the 'hidden' HTC network info page ( *#*#4636#*#* ). Again, however, I didn't change anything -- unless by accident?!
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone know if I may have inadvertently changed something and can change it back (a setting that would persist in the hardware through NANDROID restores and factory resets...). Or, any other advice to restore the cellular service connection to normal?
I've tried a full NANDROID restore (multiple times) to a working copy, and a factory reset. I have limited access to a PC since I'm traveling, so re-flashing the VZW firmware or stock recovery or lollipop/verizon RUU would be challenging.
I did spend a good 45 minutes (at a library, my only PC access!) searching the forums and web, but to no avail.
Settings information:
OPperator Name: Verizon
Signal Strength -114 (I've had better but still have the same issues)
Mobile Network type: LTE
Service state: In service
IMS service state: Not Registered
Roaming: Not Roaming
Phone Identity page:
IMEI shows up (15-digit number...how can I verify I didn't mess this up?)
Phone Number is correct
IP Address: 100.66..... (looks good)
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Same here
I'm having the same issue. When i try to make a call my LTE bars drop to nothing and it says call failed no network available. Any ideas or help would be nice. I was using venom rom as well. I'm currently trying to flash the newest RRU to see if that resets things. I'm wondering if it somehow my sim card. I took it from my droid turbo. I've made sure to turn off advanced calling on my VZW account though.

I had this same issue, running from ruu then rooted. I didn't noticed until I started seeing voice mail notifications but never heard the phone ring. When I tried to dial out I got the immediate call lost message. I couldn't figure what was causing it so I just did a reset. I made sure not to restore any systems data from prior to the Lollipop upgrade. At this point everything is working, the only thing I haven't installed yet is the xposed framework and sense 6 toolbox.

What kind of reset did you do? I know my issue is slightly different, but I did a full RUU-flash yesterday (latest lollipop version) and still no luck. Unfortunately I'm out of the country now and access to a computer is limited, and I don't even have a SIM card yet to check if cellular service would work anyway.
I do intend to do a flash of the stock recovery and radios once I have the time and access, but that may be a while...
Still, I'll keep checking this thread to see if anyone posts any other options

Just go into settings and to Backup & Reset , this will return your phone to a fresh install and remove all non bundled apps.
Before doing the reset try going into Settings then Call then change Preferred Network to Global, or toggle from LTE then back to Global.

Roaming menu in OD3?

Currently scratching my head at this one... am domestic unlocked thanks to idoneapps but can't seem to get my data/mms working (voice, txt does). APN has been checked, re-checked, and entered several times with no success.
Phone info shows mobile network is "in service" but state is "disconnected". Coming out of airplane mode it will stick on "connecting" for a while before failing and dropping back to "disconnected".
On invesigation I recalled there used to be a roaming menu in NE5 that could be made visible with some CSC trickery.
I tried the same trick in OD3 with no success - so has anyone else seen a roaming menu in OD3?
Currently running with csc code/sales code XAS.
Any insight would be helpful - Thanks.
Update: Can confirm it's still there, Shortcut Master search found it. Dunno why it's not showing up the normal way though... and still no data by the looks of it.

SM-G920W8 | No Option To Connect to LTE

I bought an Unlocked Canadian S6 recently, and it just won't let me connect to the LTE network.
Model Numer : SM-G920W8
Android Version : 5.0.2
Baseband : G920W8VLU1AOCG
Connecting to the LTE is not even an option. When I go in the Network Options, I get the choice between :
-WDCMA/GSM (auto connect)
- WDCMA only
- GSM only
I know for a fact that I am in the coverage zone, so no need to ask that silly question
I've tried different SIM cards, played in the options a bit, and factory reset the phone about 5 times now, yet nothing seems to work.
Also, when I try to do the update, it just reboots and gives me an Android logo and a failed Icon
I've only seen one other post like this from a carrier's support website, but no solutions were found.
**Update : For a reason, after a recovery, it will connect to the LTE for a bit or until next boot, then go back to what it is now.
First question, who did you buy the phone from? Second, Is it second hand? By default, Wind mobile does not allow the LTE option to be displayed in system settings as they as a carrier don't have LTE. It is blocked by the CSC setting for the carrier. As for other carriers It should leave you the option to connect in settings where you say it is not. If it is a Wind phone, You would need to change the CSC to enable the LTE selection. There is a method to force LTE even without option in settings, but I think it is removed in the latest firmware. Try dialing *#2263# in the dialer. It may bring you to menu that will allow you to select LTE. This is not a permanent method though as it will need to be done every boot. The other way, (If you are in fact a Wind/Mobilicity phone) is to enter dialer and enter *#272*IMEI# with IMEI being your devices unique code. If at all possible, take a full nand and Titanium Backup before doing this and be sure to transfer everything off the phone to a PC. This method wipes everything and I mean everything off the phone buy is a surefire way to enable LTE.
Yes, it was second hand. I didn't ask who was his carrier simply because it was unlocked.
I'll try it tomorrow, thanks for the information
Here is the menu you will see when you type the *#272*imei# code into your dialer. The codes are the carrier names. Mine which is GLW is Wind, BMC is Bell, RWC is Rogers, etc.
Maybe there is no LTE in your area...

It would still be visible in the Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode menu which it is not. His problem is more than that.

Sweet! It works :good: Thanks man
Now, would you have any ideas on why the update won't work? I didn't get much into it yet, but I will soon.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't update, but now that you have changed the CSC you can download the update and flash with Odin. Pick your carrier and go to town. The guy running the following thread runs his own firmware host. He's got amazing DL speeds. Usually takes me 6 or so minutes to do the 1.6gb file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3086387
I'm having the same issue.

Connected with someone selling a G920W8 version. LTE is disabled and the codes aren't working. Can you reaffirm which unlock code worked for you? I'm on Fido, what LTE network are you using?
hi BCSC
Thanks for the details. I searched complete net and read all articles but nothing set me up with the proper thing. i read your solution i dialled *#2263# and all i got is service mode and in that i went to band selection , LTE and the all ....... Yes and its showing LTE in mobile data. THanks so much.
But now another issue, network is showing perfect but no outgoing and incoming calls.
in incoming its showing busy and on outgoing its not connecting to another phone.
And, Lte is not showing in mobile networks, There only 3 options still are showing.
Mine is same Wind S6 but i had to use in India.
Let Me know
Thanks once again

Picking LTE from the service mode will note make it visible from the settings menu. Its more of a workarpund instead of a way of permanently enabling it. As for the issue of no out/in calls, my best guess is that it could be due to which LTE bands are being used or are available in India. Unfortunatly I have no way to test that option. I only was successful in getting the Wind LTE option on Canadian carriers.
