SM-G920W8 | No Option To Connect to LTE - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an Unlocked Canadian S6 recently, and it just won't let me connect to the LTE network.
Model Numer : SM-G920W8
Android Version : 5.0.2
Baseband : G920W8VLU1AOCG
Connecting to the LTE is not even an option. When I go in the Network Options, I get the choice between :
-WDCMA/GSM (auto connect)
- WDCMA only
- GSM only
I know for a fact that I am in the coverage zone, so no need to ask that silly question
I've tried different SIM cards, played in the options a bit, and factory reset the phone about 5 times now, yet nothing seems to work.
Also, when I try to do the update, it just reboots and gives me an Android logo and a failed Icon
I've only seen one other post like this from a carrier's support website, but no solutions were found.
**Update : For a reason, after a recovery, it will connect to the LTE for a bit or until next boot, then go back to what it is now.

First question, who did you buy the phone from? Second, Is it second hand? By default, Wind mobile does not allow the LTE option to be displayed in system settings as they as a carrier don't have LTE. It is blocked by the CSC setting for the carrier. As for other carriers It should leave you the option to connect in settings where you say it is not. If it is a Wind phone, You would need to change the CSC to enable the LTE selection. There is a method to force LTE even without option in settings, but I think it is removed in the latest firmware. Try dialing *#2263# in the dialer. It may bring you to menu that will allow you to select LTE. This is not a permanent method though as it will need to be done every boot. The other way, (If you are in fact a Wind/Mobilicity phone) is to enter dialer and enter *#272*IMEI# with IMEI being your devices unique code. If at all possible, take a full nand and Titanium Backup before doing this and be sure to transfer everything off the phone to a PC. This method wipes everything and I mean everything off the phone buy is a surefire way to enable LTE.

Yes, it was second hand. I didn't ask who was his carrier simply because it was unlocked.
I'll try it tomorrow, thanks for the information

Here is the menu you will see when you type the *#272*imei# code into your dialer. The codes are the carrier names. Mine which is GLW is Wind, BMC is Bell, RWC is Rogers, etc.

Maybe there is no LTE in your area...

It would still be visible in the Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode menu which it is not. His problem is more than that.

Sweet! It works :good: Thanks man
Now, would you have any ideas on why the update won't work? I didn't get much into it yet, but I will soon.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't update, but now that you have changed the CSC you can download the update and flash with Odin. Pick your carrier and go to town. The guy running the following thread runs his own firmware host. He's got amazing DL speeds. Usually takes me 6 or so minutes to do the 1.6gb file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3086387

I'm having the same issue.

Connected with someone selling a G920W8 version. LTE is disabled and the codes aren't working. Can you reaffirm which unlock code worked for you? I'm on Fido, what LTE network are you using?

hi BCSC
Thanks for the details. I searched complete net and read all articles but nothing set me up with the proper thing. i read your solution i dialled *#2263# and all i got is service mode and in that i went to band selection , LTE and the all ....... Yes and its showing LTE in mobile data. THanks so much.
But now another issue, network is showing perfect but no outgoing and incoming calls.
in incoming its showing busy and on outgoing its not connecting to another phone.
And, Lte is not showing in mobile networks, There only 3 options still are showing.
Mine is same Wind S6 but i had to use in India.
Let Me know
Thanks once again

Picking LTE from the service mode will note make it visible from the settings menu. Its more of a workarpund instead of a way of permanently enabling it. As for the issue of no out/in calls, my best guess is that it could be due to which LTE bands are being used or are available in India. Unfortunatly I have no way to test that option. I only was successful in getting the Wind LTE option on Canadian carriers.

G920R7 GSM Unlock..... Feel like I'm close....

I'm on PD1 6.0.1 with a G920R7 nTelos. I rooted using CF-Auto root, flashed TWRP for the g920p, and installed the zip file from this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689
After that I installed Phone INFO ★Samsung★ and used it to access the hidden menus. Went to the 2263 menu and set all band preferences to all and selected the LTE/GSM mode only, then went to the 4636 menu and set the radio to GSM/LTE (prl) auto. I've tried GSM only and it switches back to GSM/LTE (prl) auto on its own.
I now have access to a mess of options in the network mode selection screen in settings, and setting it to GSM only and 3g only still does not allow me to catch signal. In network operators it shows AT&T, yet if you try to manually select the network it never goes through. *#0011# still shows it switching through LTE bands and not staying on one or registering on the network. In the device info screen (4636 menu) it shows the correct phone number and AT&T for current network, but under cellinfo still shows it switching between LTE bands and under GSM disconnects it shows ======DATA======.
At this point I'm not quite sure what to try next. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas to try. Thank you.
EDIT: I've also tried the G920P domestic unlock and G920R4 unlock with a box, but no luck with either as expected.

I have a box but the device isn't supported, it's not locked I must just be missing something. Anyway you could private message me what I'm missing? I've been through all the settings messing with it and all, even flashed the CDMA to GSM zip floating around here. I know I'm missing something silly. Any help would be appreciated and I don't mind sending you a donation provided I can do this myself next time.

I just messaged him on Hangouts. I don't know if its something he can help with or not because I believe we have the same box and the g900r7 isn't supported. This isn't even answered on that Voldemort website.
Did you figure this one out? I'm also interested in GSM unlocking this phone.
Messing around with it I was able to get an ATT Sim card to pull 3g data but no call/text or lte.

[Completed] Help! Tmobile Samsung S7 locked only on 1800 mhz band. Already rooted

Hi everyone.
Last time i was in xda forums was when i try to mod my windows mobile CE 5.0 lol
This is my sad story:
I bought in the US a samsung s7 with T-Mobile SM-G930T, i paid a guy who 'unlocked' it in there. After that i brought it to Colombia, in here i run the T-mobile unlock app which succeded and erased itself after that. Then the cellphone started working with all the mobile companies in my country except for one that operates over 1800 mhz, other companies do work fine. When i insert a simcard of this company it just says that 'Not registered in network' and wont do nothing. I already tried to put the APN settings correctly (Actually it automatically loaded every company settings detected).
After that i tried to root with a modded Odin with a custom ROM and it succeeded and i got the SuperSU application, tho the cellphone its a little laggy now, but neither that way it worked. Anyone knows how where should i start looking?
I went to this company support and they sent me to Samsung support, which redirected me back to this company, lol
Thanks in advance guys

Hi,
It seems your phone is region locked due to which you are locked onto a particular mhz network frequency...
yes the first step would be to try to a custom rom to see if this over rides this situation or you could try below situation below... this is ideally for s6.... or atlast google search...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6/general/enabling-using-servicemode-t3109579
Ok, since now we have root, many users wanted to know if they can lock onto certain LTE frequency bands using Samsung's ServiceMode. So here is a quick guide.
ServiceMode is Samsung's proprietary Engineering Mode, built within the TouchWiz framework, readily available on International variants, and some domestic like T-Mobile. It allows us to observe the RF connection, change certain RF related settings, and lock our phones onto specific technologies and frequencies. Sadly, Verizon has been blocking user access to Engineering Mode for years now.
So in order to enable access to ServiceMode on Verizon GS6/Edge you'll need to:
- Download Root Explorer
- Navigate to /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu
- Use TextEdit to open it (not text viewer)
- Change the value to ON (upper case), Save and Exit
- Restart the phone
Once restarted you can dial:
*#0011# to observe the connection
If you want to lock your device onto a specific LTE band (13, 4, 2):
*#27663368378#
- UE Settings & Info
- Settings
- Protocol
- NAS
- Network Control
- Band Selection
- LTE Band Selection
Here you can force your phone onto a specific Verizon LTE Band (13, 4, 2), or use LTE ALL if you have VoLTE (Advanced Calling) enabled as this will eliminate the need for CDMA radios.
To go back to default, go through the same process but at Band Selection make sure to chose AUTOMATIC.
There are a lot more settings here, you can enable AMR WB on UMTS if you use T-Mobile so you can get HD Voice on their UMTS layer, etc... Carrier Aggregation has already been enabled, so no need to tweak that.
If you aren't sure what certain settings and values correspond to, it's better to avoid tinkering. You're responsible for your own actions.
According to this thread, he posted via visitor.
Then he registered and posted his query here so he seems to have posted in correct section.
Just documenting this here.

LTE+ How to enable!

LTE+ The Easy Way!
I've been pulling out my hair trying to get LTE+ and root at the same time. I was doing something differently two days ago and couldn't figure out what it was. And then BAM!
If you follow the BlueFox721 Carrier Switch Guide and go with unlocked firmware, let's say Att or Tmobile, you at a certain point "Echo" in the sales code for that company... like ATT or TMB. I changed mine to TMB for UNLOCKED Tmobile, but TMB is ALSO the code for LOCKED Tmobile. Basically when I would reset for SamFail, (Nearly identical to PwnFail but for Note 8) the system was seeing a US based phone, asking for a TMB setup, so I got LOCKED TMB 4GLTE
All I had to do after rooting to achieve LTE+ was:
Go through the phone setup process
Install Terminal Emulator, run TE, type SU for Super User (You have to grant it Su access, and if the SU command works the $ symbol in TE will become a #)
Then type the following:
echo "XAA" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat
Then press return!
And then type
Exit (followed by return)
And finally
Exit (you guessed it, return again!)
(The first Exit gets you out of SU, the second one closes Terminal Emulator)
That changes the sales code to US unlocked. Then reboot into recovery, do a factory reset, and when your phone boots it will probably show H for signal. After setup if it isn't LTE or LTE+ just toggle Airplane mode on and off and Voila! You should be now able to get LTE/LTE+ !!!
Hopefully this can save people some headaches and provide faster internet to the masses!
(I had max download speed on speed test 103mbps)
If you need the carrier apps like visual voicemail, Verizon or other carrier app, check PLAY STORE, or try the method below:

The "Carrier Aggregation" has to be enabled in your area by the phone carrier. If it is then I believe it will, but this just enables it on the phone, not in the towers

On my phone I only connect to band 2 on TMB. When I boot as XAA I get 2 and 12, and the LTE gets a Plus. You can use *#0011* to see your bands. It'll show the LTE you are on, and below that the CA line will either say 0 0, needs configuring, or show the 2nd band of your CA.
I never use Wificalling and Google Duo is at least as good as tmobile video calling so U1 firmware is best for me.

Can you flash ATT, VZW to XAA Branded in Download Mode

Forgive me if this has been covered but I havn't found the answer. I've flashed just about every phone I've ever had but my question here is can I / how do I flash to where the phone reads as XAA in download Mode?
The situation is my phone was originally on at&t. They unlocked it and I'm on Verizon. It all works great (it still says at&t on download Mode screen)
My problem is that if I log into the my Verizon app it disables my visual voicemail. I finally got a Verizon tech on the phone that explained that it is unsupported due to originally being on a different carrier and their system identifies that and disables the VVM. The only fix I can find is to put my sim in my backup S9+ that came from Samsung unlocked (or any Verizon phone) and I can then reactivate my VVM by resubscribing.
I currently have 3 Note 20 Ultras. One Each originally from Samsung, ATT and Verizon but the AT&T is the only one that is 512GB or I would just switch phones. I have flashed them all to U1 firmware but notice they all still reflect the original carrier in Download Mode so again my question is can I change this by flashing it / or is it just a matter of what sim card is in it when it's flashed? I need it to be seen as XAA by Verizon system so not to loose VVM... Pics attached.
Any advice here is greatly appreciated in advance.
Just a try... You can try the *#272*imei# method... But thats If it works. Not sure if the sims has to be in the phone for that to work.

Yes it brings up this menu... So I just select the XAA and that's it? I've been reading forums and this method is reversible it seems ... I'm familiar with Odin and all that but these hidden menus are new to me...
Thanks for the reply btw
You may have to activate the bottom most option to stay.
Don't worry if you can't access the menu after the change. You can download samsung band selection and change to automatic or one of the lte options then back to automatic to get to the menu.
CSC Guide
CSC (which I think means Carrier Service Code) helps to set what options for settings show in the device for things like voicemail and wifi calling, as well as sets network code information for things like carrier aggregation combos.
When you go to your phone settings->about phone->software information and look in the Service Provider SW ver. section, you will see as the last line a combo like XXX/YYY/ZZZ. This indicates what carrier sales and network code is set and what brand the phone was manufactured as.
I think of the XXX/YYY/ZZZ configuration as follows
XXX=Sales Code-What kind of features are setup in the firmware like wifi calling, video calling and settings menus
YYY=Network Code-What kind of network features are set for things like carrier aggregation and LTE/5G bands
ZZZ=Manufactured as Code- What model the phone was originally manufactured as. Ot has no affect on the system settings or options. THIS CAN NOT CHANGE. IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE SAME. ONLY A ROOTED PHONE WOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE FILES NECESSARY TO CHANGE THIS.

Is there any way to make IMS settings permanent or stop Android from auto discovering IMS settings on boot?

So, I've got a Galaxy S10e, with a model number G970U1, and the entire reason I bought this thing was so that I could use voice over LTE on AT&Ts network - it was one of the model numbers listed that was supported by AT&T, however, the phone itself, while being brand new, was originally a Verizon phone, as the phones CSC states that it is XAA/XAA/VZW. Upon insertion of my ATT sim card, the phone did not adapt to being an ATT CSC, even though it has the OYM software that should have the ATT CSC in it. I have tried a ton of things to try to get it to switch CSCs, from flashing an ATT CSC in Odin, to just doing resets with and without the sim card in, to literally paying $35 for Samkey to try their CSC changer, but simply doesn't work. nothing I do will get this thing to switch to the ATT CSC.
Anyways, as a consequence of not running the ATT CSC, VoLTE does not work. ATT has already provisioned the phone for VoLTE but the phone simply doesn't automatically acquire an IMS registration upon boot. I've discovered after many hours of trial and error, a way to make VoLTE work, but I can't find a way to make the fix stick between boots. This is where I'm hoping somebody else can come in and help. I'm looking to try to get the phone to stop automatically discovering IMS settings since I think it's this very auto discovery that is causing my fix not to stick.
Here is what I have to do every time the phone reboots to get volte working:
Open Alliance Shield X, go to App Manager
Search for IMS settings, click it, go to activities, and then launch the IMS settings menu with the first activity in the list.
Go to the IMS service settings, upon clicking of the IMS service settings, ALL of the toggles for RCS and MMTEL will be off and the upper left corner says "ATT US" - I toggle all of the toggles on and wait about 10 seconds
Go to settings, about, sim card status, and at this point my IMS registration status should have gone from not registered, to registered, however, VoLTE still doesn't work at this point.
Switch back to the IMS settings menu, go back a page and then click "Reset to default" to reset all IMS settings to default. Here is where things get strange - at this point, the IMS settings menu will claim I am using the T-Mobile IMS settings - but at this point my IMS registration status will remain registered, and VoLTE will work properly until I restart the phone.
I want to try to keep these settings, but like I said, once I reboot the phone, it gets the ATT IMS settings and VoLTE will refuse to work, and my IMS will not be registered.
Any advice?

Not necessarily, but the issue is that I've got 6 lines on AT&T, with some of the phones not being paid for.
You might try this method. Download the Latest same firm tool. Hit this tool is basically used for removing the FRP lock on phones, and it actually does work for that, but one other feature the program has is the ability to change the CSC code on your firmware. Which it did successfully, until the phone was rebooted and then it locked back on to AT&t. So the trick I think would be that after you use the tool and before you reboot the phone do whatever you're going to do because it you can change it to xas or xaa in which case it's unlocked and you should be able to manipulate it. I have never actually done this but in theory I think it might work good luck brother keep fighting the good fight
