CM 10.2 need to access Verizon Visual Voicemail - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just recently installed CM 10.2, finding it great, even like the google voice as the voicemail option.
The problem is I do not have access to saved voicemails that way and there are some I want to save.
What method will work for me getting Visual Voicemail on the phone, and if that is truly not an option
I want to "image/backup" the phone as it is, at which point I will put a stock rom on and then get my voicemails, but then flash back to how my phone is right now.
Is this possible?
Is there another method?
Thanks.

I've seen this question elsewhere and I am fairly certain that the answer was it's not possible. You can still access standard vmail by dialing *86. Should still have the option to save them, just no visual vmail.

Voicemail troubles

Hey everyone, i am looking for some help with setting up my voicemail.
I have the inspire 4g with att, its rooted and running cm7 as of right now. on this rom and the stock with root i cannot set up my voicemail to use google voice. i cant even set it up in general, actually. when i go into settings and tell it to use google voice, it tries to load for a second, then says something about forwarding settings or something then kicks me out. (does this on stock rom and CM7)
does anyone have a solution? id like for my phone to not just ring and ring and ring and ring... you get it
thanks in advance for the help!
Did you set up google voice on your computer? It has the full instructions there. That's how I got it to work on my inspire.

yeah, its all set up. i had it working on my hero when i was with sprint. Its being really annoying. it wont let me set it up with the regular att voicemail, nor will it let me change to GV. it says it has forwarding problems. ill see if i can get screen shots later after work.
am i the only one who has this problem?
Bump, cause i still cant get the darn thing to work. I have tried everything i know how, but nothing is helping....

[Q] Possible to replace stock dialer with Hangouts Dialer?

With the recent release of the Hangouts Dialer, I finally decided to go all in with Google Voice for all my calls/texts.
I was successfully able to update my phone's settings so that any calls/texts coming in to my Google Voice number go into the new Hangouts Dialer app. However, if someone calls my regular T-Mobile number, the stock dialer is still used to receive the call. My question is, has anyone figured out how to use the Hangouts Dialer with their carrier phone number? And if you have figured this out, is it as simple as disabling the stock dialer to ensure it never intercepts any calls?
Removing the stock dialler will prevent the phone booting. I'm not sure at what point in the boot process package manager "freezes" apps but I would suggest disabling the dialer is a really bad idea.
As for the rest of your question, not sure.

Thanks for the heads up. After digging around, it looks like my best current solution is just to make sure everyone I stay in contact with uses my GV number instead. Any calls/texts coming in through my T-Mobile number will just continue to go through the stock dialer.

when I 1st installed the hangouts dialer I wanted the same, & wonder why the hangouts dialer code simply couldn't be baked into the native one (maybe in L?)
*BUT* I found in the mean time -
Its the stock phone dialer app.

[Q]Permanently removing ongoing voicemail notification from rooted lollipop.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give as much information as I could.
This has been driving me crazy. I'm on Net10 using a Galaxy S5 though I don't think this is device specific. I use google voice for a work number which I access through Hangouts to make phone calls and the Google Voice app for sms and voicemail. My issue is that I have an ongoing voicemail notification that I cannot seem to get rid of.
After much searching this is what I've learned:
My belief is that I have a voicemail on my Net10 account. However I have been unable to access this voicemail box from either my phone or another phone.. Both are directed to google voice even after changing my voicemail number to my cell phone number (Is there another number to access Net10 Voicemails?).
It seems to be something to do with Google Voice being configured as many threads I've found concerning this involve that as a symptom, however no solutions were found that helped me.
There are two solutions that have worked, but with issues:
1- Force close "Phone"
This does clear the notification, but not only is it very annoying to do, it also seems to only work for a half hour or so (I'm guessing until the app is restarted?)
2- "Clear Voicemail Notification" App found on google play (sorry I don't have enough posts to post links yet).
This app works by clearing data for the com.android.phone or com.android.server.telecom process which makes the notification.
This also works, but again only for about a half hour or so.
I tried to make a Tasker profile that would clear the notification by force closing "phone", but ran into an issue when trying to select the app. I clicked the "All" at the bottom Tasker when viewing my apps, and tried every app named "phone" there were about 10 of them, but none of them cleared the notification. I did check "Use Root".
If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. I have a locked bootloader so no custom recovery, but I am rooted. I can recover through Odin, however it is a giant pain since I can only restore to stock each time and re-root. I am also familiar with ADB and Shell commands.
I do not want my voicemail notification to ever show up, as the Google Voice app has it's own notification for this.
On thing I was thinking was trying to modify the Phone.apk app and remove the voicemail notification all together, but I'm not very good with java, and also the computer I currently have access too is a Dell that still has a floppy disk drive.... so development is quite slow. If anyone had any pointers on how to modify the app I would be willing to commit the time to trying it though (it's my parents computer).
Also calling Net10 pretty much not an option. If any of you use Net10 you know how dreadful their customer service is. I would only do this as a very last resort.

Integrating Google Voice voicemail into Google phone app

I used to be able to choose Google voice within my phone app instead of "your carrier", and I could access my voicemail through the phone. This is no longer working. I'm running 7.1.2, on a fresh install with all newly installed apps. Any ideas?

I was wondering if anyone else would ever notice. It's been this way ever since they updated to Google Voice to v5.x, and has been the same on any of the devices I've used. A workaround I use every time which works is to:
1. Uninstall the newer Google Voice (temporarily). Prior to uninstalling, I wipe the app's Cache and Data too as a precaution, so I can't report on the results of following these steps without doing that.
2. Go to the APKMirror website and download the latest Google Voice v4.x APK, something like v4.7.10.
3. With Unknown Sources checked in the Security Settings on your phone, install and fully setup the old Google Voice version, including setting your Phone app to use Google Voice for voicemails.
4. Once it's all setup, you can update Google Voice to your heart's content. Note that if you go into the Phone Voicemail settings you'll see that it still doesn't give you an option to select Google Voice, but you'll also notice that it appears as if the only setting it now shows (Carrier) is not selected either, so the setting is retained even though you can't select it with the newer Google Voice installed.
5. Re-disable "Unknown Sources" if you wish.

I've made calls to and from my wife's phone with this same workaround set up on both of our phones and it has never failed, yet. Hopefully Google doesn't do something to make at least this stop working, and how in the world is there not more complaints about this behavior?

I don't know if it makes a difference if people are calling your Google Voice # or your actual carrier number. i.e. Maybe if they are calling your Google Voice number in the first place, it would send them to GV voicemail, versus those who call the actual carrier #. Have you tested both yourself, if you have a way?
Also I don't know if it makes any difference if you've set up the carrier voicemail. I haven't set up a carrier voicemail since my first cell phone, which was only in 2008. I've switched carriers three times since then and I no longer even set up the carrier voicemail. No idea why that would affect it, just putting it out there.
On both my wife's and my HTC 10, and on my Google Pixel through multiple re-flashing stock and various ROMs, by default people get sent to my carrier voicemail that's not set up, so they can't leave a voicemail. I've tested both directions from our phones. Same thing if I directly install and set up Google Voice v5.x without going through the above steps.
Maybe it mysteriously works for some others as well, just as it does for you, which would explain why this issue hasn't been broadcast loudly.
Questions for you to fill in some blanks: Do you keep mobile data on all the time? Do you have Google Voice set to handle all your outgoing calls as well? I assume you're still on Verizon and have you set up your carrier voicemail?

I don't have people call my Google Voice number. I use my cell phone number on Verizon. The only thing I use Google Voice for is the visual voice mail. I don't use Verizons voice mail, and have never set it up. Yes mobile data is on all the time.

Thanks for the info! I encourage everyone to call/text my Google Voice #, and I keep mobile data/wifi and all other radios off when not in use. Of course occasionally someone might call my real cell # and I'd have to re-test all scenarios for incoming calls again to determine if the people not able to leave a voicemail occurs under all circumstances for me, or only under the most common circumstance in how I use my phone.
Off topic, it's too bad Sprint is the only carrier that has the option to fully integrate with a user's Google Voice #. That was one of the carriers I had switched to at one point, and that was a nice feature. It made it so that even on outgoing calls without mobile data/wifi and/or using GV to make calls, it showed my GV # for my caller ID.
Hey guys-- thanks for the above info- I found this thread because my Pixel (unlocked and rooted) has started acting all wonky and the phone isn't even working properly at all (it seems). I've been a long term user of GV and that's the number I typically give out for my cell. I did notice some good and some not so good changes with this new version of GV overall, but didn't notice exactly when the phone app went to 5.x - I'm currently running (if you can call it that!) GV 5.014xx and it's not playing nice with my phone app at all.
Accordingly, I'd like to try this work around, but I have a few questions:
- how do you wipe cache & data upon uninstalling an app like GV? I can't even find GV in my phone's Settings>Apps listing...?
-how do I find the apk mirror website?
-can you give me more instructions on how to "including setting your Phone app to use Google Voice for voicemails." ? I'm not familiar with how to get to my phone app's settings to do this...? Also, along this line- you mention that you will see the Phone Voicemail settings still doesn't give you an option to select GV... but I don't even really know where the phone voicemail settings are located?
I bought my Pixel from Google direct, but I run it on VZW.
Thanks for any assistance / further instructions you can provide me here- I greatly appreciate it because I've just backed my phone up (using Titanium Bkup) to prepare it for being re-flashed to the latest & greatest build.
Thanks!

Hi! Go to the Android settings / Apps / select the Google Voice app from the list, choose Storage, then click the buttons to Wipe Cache and Data. FYI, I think when you click Wipe Data it automatically wipes Cache and becomes grayed out, but I try to wipe them in the opposite order just to be paranoid.
This is from memory but this should be really close.

You're welcome! Yep, just don't bother restoring your backup of Google Voice - start from scratch with the old Google Voice v4.7, and if you back up system settings including for Phone, don't restore that either. For what it's worth, when GV v5.x first came out several months ago, I was on Verizon, but I'm on AT&T now. The same workaround was necessary for my wife and I on both carriers.
Thanks again... but as I mentioned earlier and possibly part of why I'm having so much trouble... when I click on the phone's Settings and Apps, GV is not listed !? I know that it's installed because I can click on the GV app icon on my home page and I can go into settings etc and see how I currently have it setup... I guess I could long click on it and drag it up to 'uninstall' at the top of the screen, but that's not going to allow me to wipe the cache/data....

Off topic again, it irks me that Google and others publish apps that are called one thing in the Play Store, but called something else in the app drawer. It also irks me that Google isn't consistent with this naming of their apps.
OK- yep- I was looking for it under 'G' not 'V'. humph!
Oh well, I've deleted the 5.xx GV, wiped data (cache was already grayed out), downloaded and installed the 4.7x version and set it up to handle all calls.
I got a warning message upon selecting voicemail integration saying that my carrier (VZW) doesn't play nice with it, but I selected Google Voice anyway. Then, going into the phone app settings Calls->Voicemail it is indicating GV as the voicemail system, so that's great.
Made a test call and the phone app is still acting wonky- it will actually place the call, but it won't hang up- it's getting hung right upon trying to end the call. Still thinking that I'm going to need to reset the phone in a more major way than what I've done so far....
Separately though, two other questions:
1) Seeing the old app interface makes me wonder- the new version of GV is capable of handling MMS messages, which is really great to have (obviously), so I'm wondering if this 4.7x version does too?
2) For future reference, how do I stop 'auto app updates' on this phone? That has caused me a lot of heart ache over the years!
Thanks

Yeah, I always got that notification when I was on Verizon about not playing nice with GV. 98% of the time it worked anyway. Sounds like you need to restore to 100% stock and start fresh.
I doubt if the old version of the app handles MMS. It used to be that you would get an email with MMS whenever anyone sent one to your GV #. Since you can freely update to GV 5.x and it'll keep the voicemail setting after setting up 4.7, there's no reason to stick to 4.7 IMHO.
Go into the Play Store's settings and turn off auto-update apps.
Let's try to keep the this thread on topic, though.
Thanks. Yes- I upgraded GV and subsequently noticed that, in my phone's app's settings, Calls-->Voicemail has "my carrier" as the only option, *but* it is not selected... hopefully that means that it is still set to use GV ?
Thanks again- good to know that this method is out there. Hopefully Google will continue improving GV and it can integrate perfectly with all phones in the future...

I've never used that feature so I know nothing about it.
I'm not sure that the ''voicemail integration' in the old GV does anything more than just setting up the call forward feature. Just find the call forward busy and call forward no answer codes for your carrier and forward your mobile # to your gvoice #
I could be wrong the old way may do more, but that is all I have done to use gvoice for voicemail...

No Voicemail App and I Can't Find an APK (Sprint)

After numerous attempts of doing numerous things, I finally got my phone back to the following condition:
Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP
NO root
Oreo 8.0 stock ROM (from backup created by TWRP)
Everything works but I have no voicemail capabilities. If I call my voicemail, I get a busy signal. If someone else calls me and I don't answer the phone, it just rings and never goes to voicemail. I have been looking for the Sprint Voicemail APK to no avail. All threads either lead me to Visual Voicemail APK, which no longer works or doing a ##BRAND# dial to Sprint which should reload all native Sprint apps that are not on your phone. After call and reboot, still no voicemail app. I tried to sideload a RUU with ADB but that failed with numerous errors. Using my TWRP backup was the only way I got back to where I am. I don't know why the backup didn't have the voicemail app.
Soooooo... Is there anywhere I can get the Sprint Voicemail APK? I don't want to do anything major to get this working for fear of not being able to get it back to its present state. Worse comes to worse, I'll just do without voicemail.
Thanks in advance,
LJ
Don't quote me but there should be a way to extract it from the ruu but if you copy it to the os it might not work if anything else is missing.
Your other option is to flash back to stock and start over with the ruu in zip format, flashed from external sd.
It seems to me that the app is there but something else isn't right or missing.
I like Google Voice for regular and visual voicemail and everything follows from one phone to another.
Ok. I couldn't sideload a RUU without getting error msgs. I found the correct RUU.EXE and installed it successfully. But I still have no voicemail. How can this be? I thought this would bring my phone completely back to stock.

Soooooo... Is there anywhere I can get the Sprint Voicemail APK? I don't want to do anything major to get this working for fear of not being able to get it back to its present state. Worse comes to worse, I'll just do without voicemail.
Thanks in advance,
LJ

I don't know where you might have gotten Sprint VM in the past, but it wasn't included in the stock firmware. Hopefully you have it fixed now, but I would do an profile update first. If that doesn't work try dialing ##72786# and reset your carrier information. That will wipe out the carrier information and reboot where your phone should do the hands free activation.
Well the saga continues. I spent over an hour in the Sprint store with one of their techs. I have to admit I was impressed with his efforts because I don't have the Sprint warranty and the fact the phone has an unlocked bootloader. He tried for over an hour, everything he could think possible, reprovisioning the phone, resetting voicemail, he even swapped out my sim card, to no avail. He said it definitely was a phone problem and everything on Sprint's end was setup correctly and to call HTC. Just got off the phone with HTC a few minutes ago. She asked for my IMEI number, put me on hold, came back and said "Voicemail is a paid service provided by Sprint and they have to set it up it is definitely a Sprint problem". It is beyond me that NOBODY (Sprint or HTC) can tell me where the voicemail app is stored on the phone, how it gets there and who puts it there!!!

Again, VM wasn't included on the Sprint HTC U11 from the factory, so it won't be there. You will get an icon that will let you call your VM (your number) that will allow you to retrieve it from Sprint. That was a change from the HTC 10, where the 10 and older had the Sprint VM app installed.
Also consider using: https://www.youmail.com/home/carriers/sprint/voicemail-android
Have you considered the nuke option of using the RUU to reset your phone back to factory standards?

I already flashed a RUU. I found it odd that some of my apps were still on the phone after the flash. The guy at the Sprint store tried the Youmail route. It has to be able to access my Sprint voicemail account and at this time nothing can access my voicemail. Even after the guy at the Spring store double checked my voicemail account. Think I'll find another RUU and try to flash again. And so the mystery continues......
Think it's time to throw in the towel. I've sideloaded, flashed with TWRP and tried an .exe RUU file no no avail. I even downloaded a different RUU file thinking the one I was using might be corrupt. Still no voicemail. I just don't understand when you take a phone back to stock how voicemail can be missing.

I hate to break it to you, but the Sprint HTC U11 never had a voicemail app. So you can flash RUU's until you are blue in the face and you won't get a voicemail app, because their never was one. You dial 1 in your dialer to access voicemail now. Additionally, their is nothing you could have done to mess up your voicemail, because your voicemail is never on your phone, it is only on Sprints servers. I do not know what app you think you had before, but it was never a voicemail app from HTC or Sprint, because this phone has never had one. Hope this helps

Well I could have sworn there was a "Voicemail" in my app drawer and when I selected it, it would list all my voicemails. If I selected one, it would play it without calling into my voicemail.
It must have something to do with Sprint recognizing and authorizing my phone to access voicemail. I don't understand how I am able to make and receive calls, access data, etc. but yet not voicemail. If I ever get it fixed, I'll update the thread.
VOICEMAIL ISSUE RESOLVED!!!!!!!!
After the insistence of wfrandy that the U11 has never had a voicemail app, I thought I would call Sprint technical support one more time. She reset my voicemail and it WORKED!! I'm not sure why the first time I called Sprint or after spending more than an hour at a Sprint store with their tech guy they could not do what she did.
YEP, wfrandy, you are correct. The U11 has no voicemail app. And YES, your post helped. Many thanks!!!!

Glad to hear you got it worked out. I know your frustration, I have had Sprint HTC phones since the OG Evo 4g, and every one of them had the voice mail app, until the U11. I pre-ordered it and got it on release day and spent way to many hours looking for the VM app, among others, that are mysteriously absent in this phone.
