Just browse the Android development section, there are both ROMs and kernels. Pick a ROM you like, and flash it. Most come with their own kernel, but some (Sense ICS ROMs) have a couple of different alternatives.

[Q] Flashing a custom ROM the official way?

Is it not possible to code a custom ROM so as to then flash it the same way an official ROM is flashed?
Greetings, fellow Oklahoman.
What do you mean "the official way"? RUU? PD98IMG.zip?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. What I mean is how an official ROM is flashed when an upgrade is issued. A notice is given that there is an upgrade and you download and install the upgrade. Can a custom ROM not be installed this way? Rather than having to go through the process of rooting the phone and then flashing one of the available custom ROMs. I would think it would be possible to issue a rooted ROM as an upgrade flash.
Wow. U must be truly a noob. The only way u can flash a custom rom is that u have to be rooted and have s off achieved first. And once u achieve that, you are talking about an over the air update. Which that only can happen from an unrooted totally stock phone. The only thing that comes close to that is an update from rom manager, in which u have to be rooted first before rom manager will work properly, which will download and install a custom rom of your choosing.
In other words, you have to be rooted and s off in order for u to do anything outside of stock

I think the OP was asking if its in anyway possible to flash a custom rom via RUU not OTA. In the same way that ROMS for Samsung devices can be cooked to flash via ODIN as opposed to CWM...

[Q]softkeys not working/auto brightness not working/ proximity sensor not working

hi
a while back , i read a guide in how to mod H+ to roms , i did it work . i was happy
then i decide to think and change another images that look pale in sense and add some color to the rom . i put all the imgs from other roms that i like in there . they worked too, everything was fine.
then i put the images in the rctweaks.zip i had to flash and kept them . ever since then , the soft keys dont turn on . when they dont turn , the proximity/ auto brightness dont work .
after trying attemps and changing the settings in rc tweaks . i changed roms the keys don't light up anymore
that i rememeber i haven't let the phone drop
if anybody can help thanks . is there anything i can do short of returning the phone to stock , and re- running the ace hack kit again to gain s-off and root
First off what rom are you running?
Have you tried a complete wipe of phone when flashing a rom. Or even get the pd98 zip and flash back to rooted stock rom and see if that changes all your experimenting back to default. Always create a back up before you make any changes it would save you this headache.

This is the stock rooted gingerbread rom. If you want to flash it it will bring your phone back to factory setting without losing root. Just place in root of sd then power up into hboot holding power button and volume down at same time and let it do its thing. When ask volume up for yes then reboot when told to. Then flash whichever rom you want. Try using uot kitchen if you want to alter the look of a rom its usually safer. Hope it helps

[Q] New to HTC family, Help me please..

Hello,
i just bought up this -
HTC One S this week.. its nice phone..
well, have some issues like: battery and admin access..
so can anyone first clear me if i root or change ROM of this phone will i be able to restore them all so i can avail its warranty in need ?
2nd) How to root this phone , perfectly without any issue.? what will be access + profit i will have if i root this device ?
3rd) How to increase its battery life ?
4) how are ROMs helpful to this phone ? and how to use custom ROM on this phone ???
Waiting for some help..
this is the guide i recommend for rooting your one s http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
a custom rom (i recommend either trickdroid or AOKP Jelly Bean) will increase your battery life (most of the time, depends on the rom and the ones i recommended will do just that) and give you more customization options and give you more control of your device.
and if a warranty use is required, you can always flash back to the stock rom and re lock your bootloader
it's as simple as that

hmmm thanks
i will go through it
also, can you just tell me what all other roms are for ? like the one you gave me is for battery life what else options are there ?
and how i can take backup of original rom and bootloader in case i face issue ?
well, i was installing SuperSU but it says-
"There is no SU binary installed, and superSU cannot install it. This is a problem !"
what next ? i am jammed at step 1.
which supersu file are you trying to install? cause you need to grab the proper one. and as for what each rom does. you'll just have to browse the development section of the forums and see what's out there. or you could just flash carelessly and see which one fits you best. that's kind of what i did

hey man !
u said that it can be fixed as original.. ?
but here on HTC page it says after unlocking bootlocker-
"
Step 14
To re-lock your bootloader, in the command prompt, type: fastboot oem lock.
Note: This will not restore the factory default lock, but will simply re-lock the bootloader so no further changes can be made. Furthermore, if you want to unlock your bootloader again, simply repeat step 12 with your original unlock key file to unlock your phone again.
"
That means it will not be available for warranty ???
as i broked its seal ? am i right ?
please explain.. that how i can make my phone back to available for warranty ?
help me please ! stucked at bad point !!!
i am stuck badly now !!!
i tried recovery of various roms available on all threads but nothing worked for me !!!

If that's correct you're in the right forum!
Check out the link that warren sent to you so that you can get the phone onto Gingerbread bootloaders, which you'll need to flash any Gingerbread and more recent ROM (GB, ICS, JB). Make sure you also check out the wiki for a lot of our guides.

Thanks guys, upgrade to GB 2.3.6 and rooted. Quick question Rom manager don't have cmw recovery for this phone, which recovery does this phone use and how do you boot into bootloader/recovery manually on Galaxy S 4G?
Sorry this is my first using Samsung phone.

I think you should keep away from Rom manager as it is not compatible on our phone, here check this out.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Flashing_a_kernel .flash the gingerbread kernel and you are good.. and this also it may help you with some trouble ahead... http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V .once you have custom kernel you can check some custom GB roms and ICS. head over to development section and you
can choose what you think it's best..

Depending on the kernel the recovery will either be CWM or TWRP. The easiest way to reboot recovery, if your on a ROM that doesn't support it from the power menu, is to download Quickboot from market. The other way is to power phone down then hold both volume rockers then press and holder power. Once the splash screen changes or gets brighter let go of power only. Either way works. For your own good delete the ROM manager app now.

[Q] Few question about flashing rom

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694142(the URL address for the rom I want to flash in)
Here I want to flash this rom which call insertcoin m7 rom maybe, I have never flash any rom before, but I know how to fix the brick phone.(because of the system update make my phone brick, also I know how to flash rom.)
Ok here is the questions
1.is there any possibility to brick the phone when flashing this rom, and is there any problem that happen and cannot fix by ourself and must sent to repair?
2what kind of important function does not work(such as vibrate, notification, signal etc)(in that articles just said the htc blablabla special function won't work... and the something i don't know)
3. Is this rom stability as good as original rom or CyanogenMod or other rom.
is there any rom interface like sence 6?
You're trying to flash this rom on the nexus 5? If so there is a good chance you'll brick the device. Only flash roms for your specific device

thats a HTC One rom. it is not for the nexus 5 and will brick your device if you flash it.
please stick to nexus 5 roms only. (assuming you have a nexus 5 and not a HTC one)
