Hello,
i just bought up this -
HTC One S this week.. its nice phone..
well, have some issues like: battery and admin access..
so can anyone first clear me if i root or change ROM of this phone will i be able to restore them all so i can avail its warranty in need ?
2nd) How to root this phone , perfectly without any issue.? what will be access + profit i will have if i root this device ?
3rd) How to increase its battery life ?
4) how are ROMs helpful to this phone ? and how to use custom ROM on this phone ???
Waiting for some help..
this is the guide i recommend for rooting your one s http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
a custom rom (i recommend either trickdroid or AOKP Jelly Bean) will increase your battery life (most of the time, depends on the rom and the ones i recommended will do just that) and give you more customization options and give you more control of your device.
and if a warranty use is required, you can always flash back to the stock rom and re lock your bootloader
it's as simple as that

hmmm thanks
i will go through it
also, can you just tell me what all other roms are for ? like the one you gave me is for battery life what else options are there ?
and how i can take backup of original rom and bootloader in case i face issue ?
well, i was installing SuperSU but it says-
"There is no SU binary installed, and superSU cannot install it. This is a problem !"
what next ? i am jammed at step 1.
which supersu file are you trying to install? cause you need to grab the proper one. and as for what each rom does. you'll just have to browse the development section of the forums and see what's out there. or you could just flash carelessly and see which one fits you best. that's kind of what i did

hey man !
u said that it can be fixed as original.. ?
but here on HTC page it says after unlocking bootlocker-
"
Step 14
To re-lock your bootloader, in the command prompt, type: fastboot oem lock.
Note: This will not restore the factory default lock, but will simply re-lock the bootloader so no further changes can be made. Furthermore, if you want to unlock your bootloader again, simply repeat step 12 with your original unlock key file to unlock your phone again.
"
That means it will not be available for warranty ???
as i broked its seal ? am i right ?
please explain.. that how i can make my phone back to available for warranty ?
help me please ! stucked at bad point !!!
i am stuck badly now !!!
i tried recovery of various roms available on all threads but nothing worked for me !!!
Then i tried to restore back to stock ROM so i don't see HTC warning while using recovery mode but no help ! no ROM is now fitting in it..
Please help me anyone !!
i am badly stuck !!!
either let me know how to get my original ROM and Bootlocker back so i stay in warranty or just let me know were should i process now..

and how to check hardware for s3 or s4 version ?
I would say the twrp recover

Pretty sure you're right. When I ran 1.84 stock, even rooted, debloated with CWR, no message. Once I installed a ROM with modified kernel, it appeared.
This has been covered many times, just search. If everything is stock (ROM, recovery, etc) then you will not get it. Stock kernel + TWRP recovery means when you boot into recovery you will get it because it is not stock. Get it?
Sorry I forgot to mention it's not just happening when boot into recovery, it happens everytime I turn the phone on normally

Are you sure?
I think it's only due to the kernel because i had trickdroid with stock kernel and it didn't show the message, when i changed the kernel (not the rom) the message appeared.
I may be wrong of course

No, you're right. torxx is using the stock kernel on TrickDroid 7.0 and 7.1. As long as htc won't publish the sources for its Android 4.04 kernel, there will be no alternative kernels. So besides booting into recovery there won't be any messages using the stock kernel.

@others who posted - correct. Torxx uses the stock kernel. Stock kernel means no message TWRP recovery means message because it isn't stock.

Check your kernel version. If it's the same, there is possibly not much you can do about.
Most recent update of my issue
I have flashed the newest ruu (3 uk) downloaded from the ruu collection post and got rid of the message. I also rooted and installed custom recovery on my phone and the message still did not appear
I attached a screen shot of my software info
Btw I tried to flash trick droid 7.1 (without flashing the boot.img)after done this, the message did not appear however my phone is stuck with a boot loop just after the boot sound (and no boot animation). The last time I installed trickdroid I flashed boot.img and everything went fine however I got the development only message, so I suppose the issue is with the the kernel in the boot.IMG I flashed last te when I installed trickdroid
If trick droid is based on stock kernel how come I can't get it to work on my stock phone? (rooted and custom recovery installed)

It's based off the 2.21 Euro release. If you installed any other RUU, you need to flash the boot.img either via fastboot or TWRP. This may result in the development message again (not sure what ROM gave me the message, but it was still there on TD 7.1)
I have the same kernel version as in the image rootrider posted in post #13, but I always have the red text on every boot.
What may make the difference, is whether the boot image is signed. The boot image from a RUU is signed. I bet the boot image from torxx is not.

I would post this under development, but I need 10 posts to do that. So I hope someone will look here to help me out.
So I got the new update yesterday. I have nothing against the stock rom, But it broke my tethering app. I found a way to root my S3. [GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean OTA ***UPDATED*** - xda-developers
No problem there. I was looking to install a version of Paranoid Android, But using Goomanager this was not an available rom. (Is there one for the S3) I tried a few other roms and they all looked kind of chunky to me. A few had a flicker effect when you went to the home screen (aokp milestone 1 and bean)
Well now i went the route of http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...-back-clean-factory-stock-update-10-23-a.html And I am back to Factory fresh rom with an unlocked boot loader. If I were to root the factory rom and leave it what would be the effects in the long run, and is there a costume factory rom (Jelly bean) that would solve my problem...
Thanks
Well first, this shouldn't be posted in development because you're nitty releasing anything. So this Is the right spot.
Second, I'm not sure what you're looking for under original development you'll find the AOKP for us. If you want stock jelly bean that logs like AOSP check out beans build 6

Well I guess I would have liked to post in the thread that had the information in the first place. The thread is where he explained the rooting procedure that was not working for me. All steps worked except the last one. So I have to try to ask my questions over here.
Second, Now that I am back to stock rom I just wanted to see if anyone could answer my question about rooting and leaving it...
Third... Is there a paranoid android available for S3
Gotcha! Guess I misunderstood where you wanted to post, my bad. Then rooting and leaving it is fine, no long term effect. I run stock rooted all the time...until I get bored. Also, here us the official AOKP

Thanks for the reply's So what you are saying is I can run stock root until there is another update and the worst that will happen is it will break my root?????
Like I said I like how stock functions, but it broke my tethering app. I am still on the unlimited data plan and spent 700.00 for the S3 so i could stay there. kind of a waste of cash now that Foxfi wont work. If I can root then I can use open garden.
If your into the programing part. When using oden to root what does this do..VRALEC.bootchain.tar and then they have you do this one at the end.VRBLK3_Bootchain.tar
If I get answers for these I do have one more that I will post later....
Thanks again

Yes you can stay stock rooted and if you use voodoo ota keeper you may even keep root after updates.
The reason you have to flash the old insecure boot chain is so you can unlock your boot loader and install recovery, so that you can then root. The only reason you flash the new one at the end is so that to your boot chain matches your ROM. The last party is optional, but it just makes since to have as much matching as possible.

That is great..now to my last question..(a few more like this and I can post directly to the guys thread)
When doing this step I am using TWRP.
Step 4 - Rooting Your Device and Unlocking Your Bootloader
Quote:
Using your custom recovery flash the download you chose above from Step 1 (#3)
Upon exiting your custom recovery to reboot first time, you will be asked if you want to "Disable recovery flash", you MUST select Yes
After reboot, your ROM will now be fully rooted, have a custom recovery, and/or your bootloader unlocked as well
after flashing SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader I go to reboot but it does not ask about the Disabling of the recovery flash. Should I be worried or should I maybe flash back the Factory bootloader with ODEN after I am rooted??
Sadly, this seems to be the most active thread for Paranoid Android. Currently that thread's original Dev is MIA and the last build he made was based on 2.54 (current PA is 2.99). Another Dev ported 2.99 but people are reporting issues with it. I ran the 2.54 one for a couple of weeks and it wasn't terrible.

Good day to members of xda community. I've currently rooted my butterfly (x920d Taiwan) using some Chinese guy's guide which uses DNA's recovery. So I'm stuck at the point where I want to upgrade the recovery to a working one. I'm not sure if it is possible to just switch to another recovery as I do not want to brick the phone. Neither am I asking people to brick their phones testing. I'd be glad if anyone has any advice or knowledge to guide me. Can't seem to remember if my recovery is removed or clockwork. Thanks in advance

To be honest, I'm not so sure myself. Lol. For now, I just want a working recovery instead of an unstable one. Secondly, I'd probably want to get super su working if it's possible.
Thanks for your reply =)

First, make sure you have the correct Model. Is your tab a P6200 or P6210? Then get a full ROM of Samsung OEM Firmware with the PIT file and flash with Odin and makes sure to check use PIT file. When going between major revisions like ICS to JB the partitions sometimes change . Also hopefully you didn;t do a system reset (clear) from stock ICS, because there was a potentially fatal brick bug in that version. It's ok to use other country ROMs assuming on the P6200 the radio section works for your cell provider.

If it will still charge and boot into download mode, it may not be bricked, it might be that the partitions are just messed up. Worth a try to re-partition with a .pit if so.

Solution....
Relax...if you've searched around....the same thing happened to me and my 6200L. Everything failed except HC....until a fellow member told me to try something and it works like a charm.
For some reason, my 6200L, and many out there, arent too friendly with ODIN, i had tried all sorts of firmwares, PIT and all, but the solution was simple and easy:
Mobile ODIN.
In a memory card, copy the firmware you want, in my case I put the latest 4.1.2 for the 6200L. I flashed HC using ODIN, and then downloaded Mobile ODIN. From there I selected the image for the 4.1.2, and voila. Problem solved.
Hope this helps,
Paul

Try Xposed Framwork
Hi, to modify only icons you can install another launcher (nova, google launcher...).
If you want to modify also some parts of rom (icons, status bar, dialer, sms interface etc.) you have many possibility: costum rom (cyano or other), xposed framework, modifications via recovery etc. For all of them (except the first) you need root and a costum recovery.
I try to install twrp recovery and my phone always bricks and i end up spending a whole night rebooting flashing the stock usb drivers and **** cause the phone just doesnt even stay on a screen just goes black. Ive wanted the cynageon mod but i heard its not compatible with the D803(canada version) so it leaves me using like G2 exposed app which needs xposed framework but even then it doesnt wanna install the framework. Have you heard of this issue ?

Running Lollipop?
No just 4.4.2 normal LG software. Its weird tho like i installed the usb drivers in the beginning and when i was finally able to recover my it was the updated software. Not sure what it was before i bricked it the once lol. I was and still am new and still studying up as much as i can on everything. Just have the trait of when i really want something i crave and thrive to work until i can get it. So i been searching everywhere for answers. You think xposed is the way to go ?

Probably you bricked the device because the TWRP was not compatible with your model (i.e. it was for international version or other).
Recovery, kernel etc. are .img files that are specific for your phone model, if you overwrite one of them with a different/non correct version during flash you brick your phone. For LG, if you can enter in download mode, you can easily restore everything using LG Flash tool 2014 (you need also LG drivers for windows).
To obtain TWRP recovery you can see here (for 4.4.2):
droidviews.com/install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-g2-running-android-4-4-2-kitkat/
you have to download the correct version for your model...
Ive tried to install from the link but it honestly keeps saying "loki cant find something, cant let you flash" do you know how to resolve this issue? Any help would be helpful pls and thanks

Just to understand and try to help you, now you are running a ROM or your phone is erased? Lollipop or KitKat? You can enter in download mode?

OK, are you rooted? If not first you have to root your phone (in that page you can find link to root), than you can install recovery...
