If that's correct you're in the right forum!
Check out the link that warren sent to you so that you can get the phone onto Gingerbread bootloaders, which you'll need to flash any Gingerbread and more recent ROM (GB, ICS, JB). Make sure you also check out the wiki for a lot of our guides.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V
Thanks guys, upgrade to GB 2.3.6 and rooted. Quick question Rom manager don't have cmw recovery for this phone, which recovery does this phone use and how do you boot into bootloader/recovery manually on Galaxy S 4G?
Sorry this is my first using Samsung phone.

I think you should keep away from Rom manager as it is not compatible on our phone, here check this out.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Flashing_a_kernel .flash the gingerbread kernel and you are good.. and this also it may help you with some trouble ahead... http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V .once you have custom kernel you can check some custom GB roms and ICS. head over to development section and you
can choose what you think it's best..

Depending on the kernel the recovery will either be CWM or TWRP. The easiest way to reboot recovery, if your on a ROM that doesn't support it from the power menu, is to download Quickboot from market. The other way is to power phone down then hold both volume rockers then press and holder power. Once the splash screen changes or gets brighter let go of power only. Either way works. For your own good delete the ROM manager app now.

Great for those who stock, want to install a cwm packaged rom, and don't want to have to flash a completely different rom solely to get cwm.

hi
a while back , i read a guide in how to mod H+ to roms , i did it work . i was happy
then i decide to think and change another images that look pale in sense and add some color to the rom . i put all the imgs from other roms that i like in there . they worked too, everything was fine.
then i put the images in the rctweaks.zip i had to flash and kept them . ever since then , the soft keys dont turn on . when they dont turn , the proximity/ auto brightness dont work .
after trying attemps and changing the settings in rc tweaks . i changed roms the keys don't light up anymore
that i rememeber i haven't let the phone drop
if anybody can help thanks . is there anything i can do short of returning the phone to stock , and re- running the ace hack kit again to gain s-off and root
First off what rom are you running?
Have you tried a complete wipe of phone when flashing a rom. Or even get the pd98 zip and flash back to rooted stock rom and see if that changes all your experimenting back to default. Always create a back up before you make any changes it would save you this headache.

This is the stock rooted gingerbread rom. If you want to flash it it will bring your phone back to factory setting without losing root. Just place in root of sd then power up into hboot holding power button and volume down at same time and let it do its thing. When ask volume up for yes then reboot when told to. Then flash whichever rom you want. Try using uot kitchen if you want to alter the look of a rom its usually safer. Hope it helps

Ultimately what I am trying to accomplish is to install SlimBean ICS on my friends Froyo Galaxy. (I am a Motorola Guy)
From my understanding you need to go to Ginger first. Easy enough, use Kies.
Next I need to install CM, this is where I am getting lost. Do I need to install 7 (GB) before I can install 9 (ICS)?
How do I install CM on this device? Totally lost because there are so many extra steps.
Lastly there is install SlimBean once CM is installed which is easy enough via CWM.
First question is, are you using a Galaxy or Galaxy S 4G? They're different.
Second, skip KIES, use a one-click. Flash once, reboot, Linda, Flash with bootloaders.
Then you can move on to the fun of ICS.
Please remove the battery from the phone and verify that the model for the phone is either
SGH-T959V
or
SGH-T959W
Those are the only phones the files on this forum are meant for! Reply with the model here so we can direct you to the right forum if your friend's phone is different than the Galaxy S 4G

HI Gurus,
I own the samsung galaxy sgh t959v running on official tmobile stock gigerbread 2.3.6. Recently, I've tried to update it to run on JellyBean(4.1.1) trying to follow the below tutorial.
First you need the ODIN files(to go back to stock) : goo.gl/An7S (scroll down for where it says download and download the 4 files in there )
put this file in your sd card with the other one . if you dont have this file then you wont be able to use recovery mod :goo.gl/FuHFJ
Then you need to root your phone : goo.gl/oW4WO
USE THIS LINK (FOR ROOT)IF NOT FIRST ONE WORKING : dl.dropbox.com/u/13517705/SGH-
Then you gotta update your phone to CM-7 (gingerbread)(2.3.7) : goo.gl/rjFRj
then , you need chimera 2.2 ( ICS )(4.0.4) : d-h.st/uwi
and finally , you need to install panaroid android(JB)(4.1.1): goo.gl/Frl3z
gapps : goo.gl/jN55d

tried installing chimera 2.2 ( ICS )(4.0.4) : d-h.st/uwi as well but no luck.
I've tried everything from trying to wipe out the data/factory reset.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

You flashed vibrant (SGH-T959) ROM and recovery and not SGS 4G (SGH-T959V).

I hope you haven't bricked your phone.

and if it works, flash only ROMs appearing in this forum development section.

You can flash any of the ROMs listed in these SGS4G forums. However, make sure you read the instructions carefully for each ROM, as some require you to have already been on an ICS ROM due to file system changes. Do not flash anything for the Vibrant or any other phone or you will have serious problems. Good luck!

Hi. I thank you in advance for pointers and direction. I have searched around, but want to make sure I am doing the right thing.
I have an Infuse and it is unlocked. It is running with a T-Mobile SIM card.
I downloaded Odin 3 v1.7. I successfully flashed from 2.2.1 (Froyo) to 2.3.6 Gingerbread by using this ROM/Root that I found on another thread here:
************ OPTION C *************
I997UCLB3-CWM-root-deodex-extras.rar
Features in this version
- Entropy's Daily Driver kernel
- Red CWM recovery
- Rooted
- Deodexed
- Zipaligned
- Busybox
- AT&T and other bloatware removed
- Scrolling wallpaper fix
- CRT off animation
- 8 lock screens
- Extended power menu
- Accurate battery mod
The phone is working properly on the new firmware.
I would like to jump up one more firmware to Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. Every method I can find seems to include root, and I am already rooted. That happened when I ran "option C" from above.
What is my next step? Can I simply flash a Gingerbread ROM through Odin (after, of course, putting the Infuse in "download" mode)?
You need to flash a (ics) rom from the CWM RECOVERY of the phone not using odin and then you can flash a jellybean 4.xx rom.

one last check ...
Let me check one last time before I do something stupid:
I have a rooted and unlocked (T-mobile service) Infuse. I had stock Froyo 2.2.1. I used Option C from a thread here that rooted it and gave me RED recovery. I used Odin and flashed the "extras" package.
I currently have build #: Gingerbread.UCLB3, kernal version: 2.6.25.7-I997ruxkg3-cl366622, firmware 2.3.6.
I would like to experiment with flashing up to ICS, maybe Jelly Bean.
My understanding is that I can simply drop a ICS rom onto my SD card and flash it from red recovery. Then I do do the same process to move to Jelly Bean.
Am I correct? Am I missing anything? Thank you ALL soooo much for guidance. I am learning and will pass it on!

Yeah.....its typed on Note 3.
Ok, I followed the directions provided and flashed Infinitum ICS. All works well with the rom. Recovery is distorted. I see directions which include Heimdall to correct the recovery.

My next step will them be to move to jelly bean and be happily ever after.

Hey! It looks like I corrected the issue before you messaged back. I ran Heimdall again. Thought I had blown it. Screen went all speckled red yellow and blue on me. It was kinda pretty. I booted in download mode and it was speckled, too. I followed the steps to download mode even thought I could not see the screen. I flashed through Heimdall again, it ran properly, and then booted into download mode and ran with "bootloaders" checked. It seems all is well. Recovery mode is working (no distortion) and is blue (Android system recovery 3e).
Can I follow the steps I took to go to ICS and then JB (if I decide to go to JB) now with no other issues?
