hi as the title says i was just wondering if someone is or plans to work on a crack for the verizon version of the razr hd... i plan on getting one tomorrow but it would seem the developer version is only available without a plan and i just started one. if theres any alternative let me know please and thank you
If you can afford it just buy the Dev. You can just switch it over to your current plan.

yea thats exactly it i can't afford it =( o well thanks though
Other than that then Verizon has no plans to let their normal HD be unlocked. Maybe the devs can come up with something?

can it be cracked? Definitely, just look at the Galaxy S3. But will enough developers get on the Razr HD to make it happen? That idk. I don't remember the first Razr getting cracked but rather kexec releases which still brings custom roms. I think that is a great possibility

Samsung bootloaders vs Motorola's big difference... kexec still doesn't fully work on the old RAZR
And they are coming out with more and more snooping software
Its not looking good for a unlocked boot loader on Verizon... sucks cause I'm in that boat...and I hated that with the RAZR
We need some killer devs bottom line
This phone is sick I'm surprised more people are not here yet

The phone just came to market about a week and a half ago, and isn't cheap. Patience is a virtue I'm sure it will happen, this phone is mad ridiculous. Haven't even rooted it yet and loving everything about it.
I'm sorry if this has been posted somewhere else on this forum, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
djrbliss has supposedly found an exploit to unlock the bootloader on most current Motorola phones, including possibly the XT926 as some people in the thread have claimed. Here's the link to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32888705#post32888705
Can anyone else back up this information? I'd have thought this would have made a bigger deal here, since the biggest downside of my RAZR MAXX HD, in my opinion, is the locked bootloader.
Does the motofail2go unlock the bootloader, or just root the phone? I was under the impression that the two were completely different beasts...
Yea I was under the impression that is the root exploit. He mentioned unlocked bootloader because you don't need an exploit to root those.

Ah, I see. I saw it linked from another article somewhere saying that it was a bootloader unlock. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the thread itself after i saw the words unlocked bootloader in the OP. Sorry about that.
bootloader unlock
Recently went out and picked up a moto razr maxx hd only to find that moto is no allowing US models to be unlocked through their site. I went through all of the steps to get the device id: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b only to find out I cant unlock because my phone was purchased in the US:
HOW DO I TELL IF MY DEVICE HAS AN UNLOCKABLE/RE-LOCKABLE BOOTLOADER?
This depends on a few factors. First is whether the device ships with a bootloader that is capable of being unlocked or re-locked. Second is whether the wireless carrier that sells the device allows the bootloader to be unlocked, as each of our operator partners has their own policy. As new devices are released, please check the bootloader introduction page. You will be able to check whether your device shipped with an unlockable bootloader. We will be adding devices to this list regularly.
As of August 2012, the only Motorola devices which can be unlocked are:
Photon Q 4G LTE (Sprint)
RAZR Developer Edition (Europe Only)
XOOM
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...ICE_HAS_AN_UNLOCKABLE/RE-LOCKABLE_BOOTLOADER?
Heres to hoping things get sorted, I'll gladly donate to whomever can do it effectively...

Not at this moment. GPe Moto G doesn't even have factory images.
I hope we can achieve that soon, anyway, I guess I'm gonna buy it. It's a great device for being that cheap price.

I think Motorola 4.4.2 version is better anyways, the additons they made are non intrusive and actually, kinda useful.
Good to know, man, I'm buying the device in this week.

Hey guys! I was thinking of buying the awesome moto g, and hence I was wondering if moto g is capable of supporting Ubuntu mobile right now? Or perhaps in the near future? I really love Ubuntu hence would love to have it on my phone:laugh:
Ubuntu is typically only ported to Nexus phones, but maybe somebody will try to port it to the Moto G on XDA. I doubt it though.
Wow! That would be awesome!

ubuntu would be cool phone for moto g...
Not going to happen unless some dev wants to spend a **** ton of time porting and making it work for our device. Even the ubuntu team sort of gave up in their own project lol.

I know that Ubuntu mobile is just for nexus but since Google had bought moto and also moto x and moto g gets updates as fast as nexus phones, I was wondering if that was possible....

Well, first Google sold Motorola to Lenovo, so forget about Googlerola. Second, the speed of the updates has nothing to do with the aftermarket development, that's community dependant.

I know that, I was still wondering if it was possible.....and btw are you saying moto g doesn't have a good Dev support, I'd not buy it then :/

Moto g has pretty decent dev support but its not a flagship phone so theres not as many developers as lets say HTC one, S4, etc. In a nutshell, ubuntu phone rom still has a long way to go. I ran it on my nexus 7 and it was not that good. No developer is probably going to take a crap ton of time to port a rom that is barebones. No one would use ubuntu over android....yet

I never said it has a bad Dev support, just said that its community dependant. Somebody (A Dev, or enough people wanting it) has to care enough for Ubuntu touch to port it to the Moto G.
I surely don't care, Ubuntu touch is laggy as hell is right now, not to mention full of bugs.
Jolla team claimed that Sailfish OS will be available for Android phones. I think it's more possible that Ubuntu for Moto G.
ETA
any ETA on ubuntu touch for MotoG
hey guys and gals, I have a friend that has a Droid Maxx (tx1080) that he wants to sell. I would like to buy it from him, as i currently have a galaxy nexus (verizon). his phone is on 4.2.2. Does this mean i can still root it? I dont really care about unlocking, but i do need wireless tether. Thanks for the info!

Yes you can root 4.2.2 and even take the 4.4 update and stay rooted (sounds easier then it is) but for 40 USD you never worry about root again with an unlocked boot loader
so would i be better to get a new one and get the chinese code?
If his is cheaper then buying new I would buy his if it is in good shape.

ive read that this service may be closed. if you check the thread for the moto x its the same thing. people are getting refunds.
Hey everybody i have a really tough decision here. I'm currently the owner of a verizon s5 (worst phone i have ever had). i still have the htc m7 unlocked and s-off. I love the phone but the screen is a tad to small for me now and the battery is horrible since it's pretty old. I'm in the market for a new phone and i don't want the m9 or the s6, My current choices that I'm thinking of is the Moto x (2014) or the m8 used. I like the thought that i can unlock the m8 and install custom rom but the moto x has near stock android. I can get the m8 in mint condition used for around the same price as the moto x brand new. Can anyone help me here? this is probably the hardest phone decision i have had to make.
I purchased an HTC M8 on swappa and I do love the phone. But, it had already been updated to lollipop so I very limited on rooting it as the sunshine app has not 'Yet' been updated to work with the Verizon M8 on lollipop so I have to wait for it to be updated. Or you can find someone with a java card so you don't have to wait for Sunshine to be updated to work on the Verizon M8.
I'm trying to wait for the sunshine app to be updated and until then, I am running the Nova launcher, Adblockplus which works on WiFi and the Adblockplus browser for when I'm not on WiFi, greenify has some limited functionality without root and there are a few other options to help for now.
The Moto X is a nice phone as well, but you would need to get a developer edition if you want to root it on Verizon.

I plan on doing the same thing you have done with the m8 (buy on swappa). but i have messaged a person about what android version is currently on it and he replied it has 4.4.4. so i can use the sunshine on that to unlock and s-off right?. as for the developer edition i don't think they have one for verizon. I am talking about the latest 2014 generation of the moto x.
Yeah the sunshine app should work on the Verizon M8 running 4.4.4, but double check the xda thread to be sure as it's been a while since I read through it.
On Verizon Moto devices sunshine only works through version 4.4.3 on most of them. On The Moto X, I know the 2013 first generation had a dev edition but they may have done away with it for the 2014 second generation.
The HTC One M8 I got in swappa was like new for less than most of the beat up ones so I couldn't pass it up even though it was running lollipop. The really good ones at great prices go fast, so if you find one don't wait too long.

Ok thank you for replying. So you think the m8 is a better choice? right know i'm leaning more towards the m8 there actually about the same price (moto x new and m8 used in mint condition). but the m8 will have custom rom capability so it will get android updates faster than the moto on a carrier network (i think). but on the build quality i think that m8 is superior on this one although not much different than the moto x. Are you liking your m8 so far even though you are dealing with htc sense, any regrets? Thanks!
I love Moto devices, most of my phones have been Moto, but with Verizon locking everything down I decided to move on to HTC, first the M7 which I really liked and now the M8. If I could afford a Nexus 6 or were on a different network I would probably try Moto again but for now since I am on Verizon I plan on sticking with the M8, it's a great device, the physical appearance and style, I love the build quality, the front facing speakers and the developer support.
I plan on trying the Google project ARA modular phone when it's finally released, but will be keeping my M8.
