Hehe, that did happen to some of us. In my case, I first flashed the 4820 TS firmware. If that doesn't stop the mad behaviour, then carefully remove the TS ribbons from the board, and tape them on top of the connectors, making sure they don't touch any conducting metal parts.

Nothing is broken apart from the TS. But when you have it connected, it acts crazy. Replace it and it should be fine.

You do know you can use a G01 which is much much cheaper right? Mine was a 5158N originally and I got my replacement G01 for 42 USD.

I get the phantom touches constantly, so it's just bad ribbons and taping them will definitely stop it?

Not sure what the question is, but taping the ribbons to the connectors is just a stopgap measure when you for some reason must keep the broken digitizer on (as in waiting for the replacement to come in the mail). It might work or not (does in my case, where if ghost touches hit, all I need do is reboot). So I wouldn't say "definitely." What's your situation?

sometimes the screen goes crazy and starts zooming in and touching areas when I'm not touching the screen, when I put it back in to sleep and then unlock it again its fine, and then also somewhere in the upper right portion of the screen it's send like out didn't react to the touch so well especially when I'm scrolling and hit that part of the screen it'll stop then either act as if I did a long press or act as if I clicked on the browser url.

If you have an undamaged digitizer that acts on its own, you're not alone. Most of the time, the remedy is in reflashing the TS frmware. You need to know what type it is so you can select the correct firmware though. Pop the back cover open and look. Check this thread for troubleshooting tips.

Would be nice if someone has any NEW light to this matter "Crazy screen"
Me too have this problem and been reading everything in here to remedy that problem.
that 50 page long thread has gone to more questions than answers.
it seems that replacing the TS and the board and the 4820 firmware still gives the "Crazy screen"
I've seen even a brand new TF300T without any visible defect that has the same fault.
has anybody found other firmware to TF300T than 4820.. maybe it isnt 100% compatible with all cheep china TS?

I ordered a cheap g01 for 43 bucks. I then flashed 4820 firmware. No problem at all and its more responsive than the original 5158n.
The boards do also go bad apparently. You can pick one up for 15 usd on ebay. Regardless what version the board came from, you will have to flash.
I recommend every one with issues go with the g01 as its firmware is readily available and actually has a proven track record of working. Its also the cheapest version available ( mine was also an original Asus part for that price )
Just make sure you have root access first.

Glad to hear happy stories.. too little of them here
i replaced mine TS g01 without changing firmware (i had 4822).
i ran it about 9-10 hours straight and no glitch at all before it began to ghosting.
and then flashed the TS firmware to 4820 with no difference (still ghosting)
i think people have triggered the same problem when replace their TS. (it wasn´t "the cap" problem) and will not necessarily engage immediately after the replacement.
it's really a ghost story.

In that case its either a bad board, or a bad digitizer. There were reports of new screens that looked intact actually having micro fractures that dont act up until the unit had been on and running ( heating up ). I'd try the TS / Micro SD daughterboard first though as its cheaper and easy to access. Worst case scenario is you get a spare or see if someone here wants to pick it up from you. For $15 its worth a shot.
Heres the exact OEM G01 I ordered ( It does have the Asus Logo )
http://www.ebay.com/itm/360697697608?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I cant find any cheap boards on ebay right now but they are frequently listed in the 15-20$ range. You will just have to keep your eyes peeled I guess.

How do I root my TF300T without touch screen?

i did it with cheap "OTG Host Kit Adapter tf300t" from ebay and usb mouse.. easy as with working TS.

here is the report.
Now i have replaced the new TS. and the Ghost Story is still there?
But it is not random anymore. Now it is only one dot ghosting all the time? (top right corner). I assembled it twice but no avail.
by the way, they sent me "White label" version instead of G01 and i think it worked better (less ghosting).
interesting to hear opinions?

Common Problems with tf300

I'm planning on buying this tablet soon and I just wanted to know what I should test out on the tablet first to still be eligible for returns if ever something is wrong. So what are some problems that usually occur with the tf300 so that I can test it out as soon as possible? And what are the usual things I should look out for? By the way, I'll be getting the one bundled the keyboard.
Another question, with the white tf300, does dirt get stuck easily on the back of the tab because of the circular texture? Thanks
Edit: In simpler terms, can you write down the common problems with the tf300 for us to look after for?
Mine had a slightly loose back-cover and made a sound when pressed firmly on the sides. Although most people probably won't be bother by it.
I haven't had any other "problems" with it, but i would suggest checking the screen for dead pixels and if the touchscreen functions properly.
Also search through the forum here for people reporting problems and check for those.
Not sure if anyone else has this issue but the screen appears to register touch before you actually touch the screen, it's only when your finger is extremely close to touching thescreen that this occurs ( maybe mine has a fault or I am too electrically charged :cyclops: ) .. Also I put on a wet type screen protector and thought my screen was faulty but found out later it can take a day or so for the screen protector to settle in ?
Works fine now though...

I think the touch screen problem is normal from time to time since that happens to my phone as well at times.
Are wet screen protectors too thick to be able to dock the tablet? I read a couple of users had trouble docking. I was thinking of getting the acase screen protector just to be safe since it's dry.
Another thing to watch out for is software related. Many of the TF300s, mine included, have invalid serial numbers. They can't get automatic updates, use the Asus device locator, or validate registration on the Asus webpage.
Hope this helps,
Dave

How did you get an invalid serial?
I just returned my TF300 16 GB to Best Buy because after 2 months the touchscreen went haywire...It registered all sorts of touches I never made. I'm hoping its just a manufacturing issue and not a design issue. I normally keep it docked and hope that's not the cause.
Props to Best Buy who made the exchange very painless...for $20 more they gave me the 32 GB despite being past the return date.:good:

It comes that way. It would appear Asus' factories failed to register quite a large percentage of the tablets with the update server.
One way to check is to use the Asus device locator. If it refuses to let you use your serial number, then yours is one of the invalid ones.

[Q] P920 with cracked glass

Guys;
I cracked my touchscreen while drunk by dropping it on the floor then stepping on it.
It's not bad , just a crack on top of it the touch screen works pretty much but it bothers me.
I found replacements on ebay , there are also originals and there are also ways to repair the cracked glass...
I don't wanna get the chinese counterparts , touchscreen is an important equipment , i don't know but it can delay my writing or something.
The originals are too expensive.
Haven't really tried repairing a cracked glass...
What would you suggest i do and why ?

Yes i can send it back but it takes time because i live in Turkey... plus the return shipment is a lot.
So have you had any trouble writing , was it any different from the original touchscreen , was there any latency ?
Was the screen spotless and slippery like original ?
I think with just a little more information i may buy the replacement ones...
Thanks...
i have also cracked screen. i want to change it with cheape one from ebay but also with frame ( front housing) so it is glued together it is little bit easier to change =) for price 32 dollars =)

[Q] Replace LCD Digitizer Screen Display Skyrocket

Hi All,
I am new to the forums. I recently dropped my Skyrocket and the LCD screen is cracked badly and wont even display anything. I believe the phone still works because I can hear it power up and down, I hear text messages come in and phone calls. I am going to try to follow the instructions on this page ( and I have seen some youtube videos) but are there any tips you guys can give me before I go through with this? I order the new screen and hopefuly it will be in by Jan 1 2013.

How to get to the data from a dead display
Also, Is there some way to get to the data if the display isn't working? I have my phone set to prompt me when I connected a usb cable to a pc on what I want it to do so it doesnt automatically connect to a pc. I thought maybe through recovery mode but the videos I found online don't seem to help me and they seem to focus on custom ROMs, which I guess have a different interface.
I have the stock version from ATnT version 4.##.

Yeah, never thought to contact Samsung to have the phone repaired, probably for the same reason going to the dealership is usually more then doing the work yourself. I am in too deep to back down now since I already ordered the LCD / Digitizer. Hopefully this will be the last thing I have to get. I am paying about 25 bucks more then if I had gotten the part from http://www.cellphone-repair-shop.com which was mentioned in the WALK THROUGH LINK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540425&highlight=lcd+digitizer .

DONT BUY THE BELOW DIGITIZER / FRONT HOUSING. BUY THE ENTIRE THING ASSEMBLED FROM THE WALK THROUGH LINK.

Okay, so I think I am screwed. I swapped the housing and the screen. I turned on the device and I see the word samsung flash on my screen for a second, then nothing. The phone feels like it still works because I hear the bootup noise and I hear the message dings but just nothing on the screen. Any suggestions? I am ready to give up but wanted to see if you guys had any other tips.

When they repaired it, did they leave your data intact, or did they factory restore it?
I tried to go this route, and when I was setting up the repair claim I was told they factory restore it no matter if it's needed or not. I want to keep my messages, and other data intact.

Factory reset. The phone comes back to you just as a new one would. They flash the stock firmware to the phone. I sent mine in with AOKP still on it and they didn't seem to care but ymmv. Like xcraxydx said just back them up. I made a nand before I sent it out and saved it to the sdcard. Copied any media I wanted to keep to sdcard. Took out sdcard. Got phone back. Odined sk8ts recovery. Flashed nand. Took less then ten minutes.
You might be done with everything but...
Always check around for prices if you're strapped for cash. Generally you can find a cheaper price off a 10 minute Google search. Not just with this but with most everything that you can find online you can find good competition for it. I think the only exceptions to this is in Medicine and Automotive-relate parts (but the latter not so much)

I have no way to back them up. My screen is shot. When it first happened, I could see just a corner of the screen, and was able to pull my photos, and zip files off of my internal sd card by hooking it up to my computer. I was just barely able to do that. I was not able to navigate my phone to pull files using Root Explorer, or I would have pulled my messages, and other data. I called AT&T, and they can't pull that kind of data without the screen working.
This last weekend, I was able to get the screen off, but I might have fudged it. I watched the how-to on Youtube on taking it down for a screen replacement. Followed it to a T. The only thing is, when I removed the screen I noticed that there was a section that didn't come off with the screen, but I already had gouged it prying the screen off. This black section is in the center of the back plate, and wasn't present on the phone in the how-to video. I figured it came off with the other adhesive on the video, and mine didn't come off as easily as I didn't have high enough heat. I scraped it off as good as I could, but it's like a metal based adhesive underneath the black section. Did I mess it up, or did this have to come off for the screen replacement too?
It's not too much of a problem if I borked it. I kinda want to get the complete white housing that's in the link on the first post, but was trying to go the cheapest route if I could. $40 more isn't too bad for the complete setup if I have to, and it will have the chrome bezel.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Hi. I bought what I thought was a digitizer for the SGH-I727 but its just the front glass. Anyone know how to replace that? or is it even a part that can be replaced? on my phone the screen is cracked but still works.. and why would they sell just the glass no flex cable at all???

I think you have to use a heat gun to separate the glass.

You can replace just the glass but it's a huge PITA. You have to be very careful.

[Q] Digitizer/Sensor or Flex Cable Problem?

It started out simple. At first, the screen would cut off when I closed the keyboard sometimes...and then all the time. Next, the touch screen stopped working. Afterwards, the screen would freeze occasionally. Now, I can't see the screen at all.
I'm not ready to give up on this phone yet. I'm just not sure if it's a digitizer and sensor, or the flex cable issue. Does anybody have a clue?
90% need a new flex, be sure to get one with the speaker soldered on to make life easier and take your time reading before disassembly, lots o sticky stuff there

If both the LCD and digitizer are having problems (with no signs of external or water damage), I'd suspect the flex cable as well.
Thanks!
I thought so, but I was in denial. I've only ever replaced digitizers, so I was hoping I just had to do something like that again.
By the way demkantor, what's the other 10%?
9% digitizer going bad and then soon after LCD, 1% software/firmware issue 90% get a new flex. So if it were me id buy the flex, or at least open it up and have a peek around

Changed my flex two times by now, first time lcd showed color noise, second time touch died.
First time there were rips on the flex, second time - nothing particular.

My MT4GS has just gone blank after 3 years of continuous use. Screen went random colour pattern, then totally black, though phone is still working fine behind it.
I've done a search, but places like http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-mytouch-4g-slide.html suggest there are two - a motherboard flex and a slide rail flex that look very similar but are two different prices. I'm a long way from USA, so spares take a long time to ship and are expensive. Can anyone recommend a supplier/specification so I get the right one? Help much appreciated. Thanks.
In the link you sent those are one in the same, can't say why the prices differ but one may have speaker and one not, I'm on mobile so its hard to zoom in and tell.
As for supplier I'm in the us and have just purchased from random eBay people before so I can't say what's best for you
Also note it is possible you're LCD is bad (but bless likely the cause) if you are to get one of these know which one you have first (there are a couple out there and aren't interchangeable)

Thanks - reading other posts on other threads (inlcuding one guy who posted a picture of exactly the last thing I saw on my screen before it went black (-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092608)) seems to point to the flex. That post also has a link to an ebay sale, but the picture has been taken down so I've only got the name to go on. And of course that doesn't match what I can but other places so I'm just guessing at the moment..
Is it the main motherboard flex? Perhaps I'll have to strip the phone at the weekend and see if I can work it out... Oh well, another thing to add to the To-Do list. No wait, that's on my phone and I can't get at it!

Need LCD part number!

Hi everyone
I broke the screen on my tablet over a year ago, had the screen replaced with a new one but when i got it back the touch didnt work. The guy seemed like he was sorry about it so he only ended up charging me 30 bucks and said something else is wrong. i was skeptical about it cause with the cracked screen the top corner still responded to touch and now nothing works
...long story short i did some research and saw that theres a few different types of screens for the 300 i figured they may have put the wrong one on so i removed the back to check the version number (it is written on the cable that goes from the glass to the tablet).
However. On my tablet there is no cable at all... i guess i got screwed by the place they put a defective screen or something... Either way of course the touch isnt working the cable isnt even there...
all i need to know is if theres another way to find the version number for the lcd they are pretty cheap online im just going to take a stab at fixing this myself..
ive asked asus that was a waste of time they advised me to send it in they would fix it for 250...ya right

Do you still need help with this? If you do, open the tab, take all necessary precautions with the battery, remove all boards and cables, and look where the digitizer's ribbons should be. If they're not there, it means they've been ripped when the "repairman" reassembled the thing. If the lcd still works, all you need is a new digitizer. A G01 would work across the board and is cheap. Go to this thread for more info. Good luck.
Thank you I had given up for a while but just wiped the dust off this thing yesterday...I'll give it a try
