What about a petition to forbid petitions on xda...
Why does it matter?
Somehow I doubt 100 people will be enough to convince Qualcomm.
Seeing that 100,000 isn't enough for HTC
I've signed the petition, but let's be honest: Even though this petition has been posted in many forums, it's as productive as a water drop on a hot stone. We can do whatever we want, but when it comes to updates, us, the xda community and other people who want Qualcomm to continue providing sources and the manufacturers to push out further updates, we will never be able to force them to do that.
My 2 cents being said, I also wanted to give kudos to the users who started the petition and shared it with us.

It is not gonna work..
I have been there during the MSM7227 days when Qualcomm dropped support for that chipset since ICS.. We did petitions, emailed qualcomm, spammed their social network pages for months, but they didn't change their decision..
Only hope for you is AOSP based ROMs, which might be slightly unstable but still good as daily drivers...
And, as for Broadcom responding to petition, Qualcomm /= Broadcom.

Dear All,
Are you as pissed off as I am by how HTC promised for open source and hasn't kept its promise?
I have asked their support line, on their ics blog and were in touch with HTC Officials personally. Never got an answer for that.
So here's an open letter to HTC that I am thinking.
What is the criteria to decide on which phones receive updates in what order, why some phones are given deadlines while others are "sometime later this year"
What happened to HTC's promise for open source? Why do you not release kernel and driver sources for ICS?
Why the unlocking is limited and will you provide a true unlock solution.
If there is enough attention, I would like to use social media to draw HTC's attention.
Who's with me?
Join the crew man! There are several people who are trying to contact HTC daily for these things. Also, a true unlock solution should be on your list!

Well for the most part the drivers are not theirs to offer as open source. They belong to another company that will never release the source for them. The kernel sources are posted normally with in a fair amount of time.
Alot of time the carriers (For US phones) have more control over the updates then the OEM. Take the Desire HD and the US version the Inspire. The Desire HD has gotten 2 updates, one for a sercurity issue and one for a Sense version update. While the Inspire got nothing.
Give this a read and feel free to post it or add to it and make HTC hear us!

I know that I am not the only one. But to draw a big attention we need to get together and today the answer for that is social media. AFAIK, there is no social media group currently to address the issue.
On the other hand, yep you are right, adding the true unlock issue.

"Will never release the source code" is a bold statement. 25 years ago one wouldn't think an enterprise would ever release the source codes. But the times changed and the demand from the community got bigger so they were forced to and adopted a new way doing business.
This was a wave in Linux case, first the kernel was open source, now *almost* every driver is now open source, including companies like Intel.. An exception to that would be Nvidia. But with the nouveau project, sooner or later they will start to cooperate. As in Nvidia PC business most of the customers are non-Linux customers that is not yet an issue for them. On the other side, they are too under pressure on the mobile land with their tegra line.
Provided the above is correct, if there were an enough *united* community demand, first the OEMs / Carriers will be on the front line then they will turn to their hardware providers to opensource the drivers.
Correct me if I am wrong but a driver is merely a bridge between the kernel and the hardware, so I really do not get it the reason to keep it closed.
As for the kernel sources, I still do not see and 3.x.x source for devices other then Sensation and One line. ICS was released mid November. I am sure OEMs like HTC got their hands on it before that, so it is over 5 months they haven't released updates. I know that updates aren't produced overnight, yet 5+ months is quite disappointing. So I disagree with "fair amount of time" part.

I don't see the point here. I see the sources for "Carrier's devices" on htcdev.com. So it is not a "being open issue". On the other hand, releasing updated sources and pushing updates to devices I think are not the same things.

Great write up! But the main point I am trying to make a *united* move. So with all the respect, a blog shouldn't be the point to gather up. Having said that a text like your's would constitute the detail of the open letter I am envisioning...
Feel free to use it, the quote in the middle is from toastcfh, the rest is mine. I am fully behind what ever move there is to get HTC to really unlock their phones and give true open source codes. They are putting up a front to developers that they are friendly but the process is so hindered we have to rely on leaks and crazy s-off methods, and even with source you can no longer flash a kernel or boot image with our a pain in the neck. There are plenty of people who want these things and we do need to approach HTC as a community!

Waste of time. LG cannot release an update without carrier permission on co-branded phones. Never going to happen on an EOL'd device.
Never hurts to try. A little bit of unity amongst people can go a long way.

honestly the best bet for anyone getting phones to get updates through the life of the contract you sign would be filing a lawsuit on the bases of security updates not being released and the manufactures and carriers not fixing security flaws. But for that to happen it would be rather costly to go after multiple companies.
It's been done. No, it doesn't hurt to try.

If you could write down this petition in English than I am sure that more people would sign it. English is not my mother language, neither Russian, but I know both (a bit). I assume that most of the people clicking on your link would think: "I do not understand a $h1t ... meh". Google Translate is an option, cause it wont allow you to sign petition using some browsers (just like using 4PDA thru Google Translate)
Regarding performance with U8500 at 1 Ghz... my wife have i9070 and I must say that it is not faster device at all. It does not feel more snappy and games are running the same as on Ace2. Of course there is +400 points in Antutu for i9070, but thats all. I9070 drains more battery at normal tasks with its 1GHz. In fact Ace2 and S Advanved are underpowered due low speed EMMC and RAM used and it is a fact. i8190 is much more fluid because it has better RAM/EMMC and I am not talking about size of it.
Instead of asking about raising clock ... we should ask for releasing complete JB sources for Ace 2.
dream guys, dream.. This make no sense.. It's impossible, there are many reason (Declaration of conformity in primis) that can make this request impossible..
Its better if you write it in formal English so that more people will support and samsung will be able to read it too. Trust me, samsung wont have time to translate it to English.

Signed, but to be completely honest, WH.gov is a total joke (just like our commander in chief, but that's getting too political for this thread)
My point about it being a joke is that there are tons of great petitions on there, lots revolving around specific things I feel very strongly about, like this one in particular.... the issue is that about a month or two after you sign it, you'll get an "official response" from some WH official, and it will be in this exact format:
We disagree and agree on a lot of points...... You said X, we agree with X, we've always stood by X and here's a worthless link proving it (link), but we want to make sure that X doesn't ever lead to Y, which is why we believe in Y, Y is vastly different from X, although they are one in the same...... Thank you for your signature on this petition, it's reasons like this why we created this because we're always trying to worth together, even though there's no such thing as bipartisanship in politics anymore......
and I'm done with my rant for the night, but yes, great petition, unfortunately won't go anywhere because the site is a joke

I concur completely. But if we were to somehow achieve 250k signatures, it'd be a lot more known to people about this technology and monarchy that our carriers are. If it were to become a hot topic, the next step would be to get a senator to propose a bill/law or something. I know it's a long excursion, but it'd truly be awesome....

Well I don’t agree that we cannot make a change. If you read a book like The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference , you will come to see that even though Samsung spend around 4 billion $ for marketing , the final say is in the hand of the consumers . Currently if you look around the s4 forum, the note 3 forum, and other forums around of the web you will see that people are unsatisfied with what Samsung is doing, and they are advising people away from Samsung.
For one, I know that I can directly influence 50 of my friends and I made sure to contact each and every one of them about Samsung new policies and advised them against any future purchase of a Samsung device. I also contacted some blogs explaining the issues that we have with Samsung - I have yet to hear a word from them - so even though Samsung can pay its way around the web to silence some critiques , it cannot affect the social binding , and the negative social vibe generated around its products . So let’s wait and see if Samsung will stay arrogant and fall like blackberry, nokia , palm … and any other too big for consumer company did , or whether they are going to start making some changes .

I buy a samsung galaxy from the first that came out! always done with what I please! ROM metia you were pre-beta just to try!
with this, we put a barrier samsung and limits us to do what they want!
where it stayed that have Android to be free?
you say you buy a Nexus if I do not go through what we are subjected samsung .. do not you think you're thinking the wrong way? you are undergoing something you limited without any claim?
rings at David vs. Goliath, but at least you will know that there are a handful of unhappy with this new security policy, which on one hand is very good, but on the other, baaaaaaad!
we know that many end users do not even know it's a ROM, let alone answer if you have rooteado or not .. but we are the damned geeks what we like tinkering with what we buy ..
that's the point. perhaps not even make this request out of the desk, but at least we did not stay silent.
For one, the English version of the petition is rather unreadable due to poor punctuation and grammatical errors.
But the real problem is that KNOX itself isn't the problem but how Samsung has decided to inform the companies that handle the warranty repairs. Their line is simply "if there are any 0x1 flags then no warranty". The KNOX flag itself should only mean one thing: that the device was tampered with and its security compromised (important information for corporate IT departments) but it should have no bearing to hardware repairs as these are two separate things.

I think this "petition" threads should be closed and deleted on XDA ... it obviously never changed anything. I signed so many and it never helped (last one was "HTC One X S-Off petition"). I dont think Samsung nor HTC gives a **** about flasher and custom ROM users like us. They need us just for beta testing when they throw us some "leaks" (like a bone to a dog).
