Got my Droid Maxx last night as I ordered it from VZW a few days ago.
I was shocked to see the left side of the phone has a pretty significant gap. So much that when I squeeze the phone it comes together and makes a clicking/popping noise.
VZW is already sending a replacement as the local store doesn't have any in stock. The VZW salesperson at my local store also agreed that the phone should be gapless and not creak/crunch when touching the left side.
Unfortunately, I dont have a camera that is capable of taking a pic of it as the phone is black so its nearly impossible to see in a pic.
Anyone else seeing this issue ?
Not me. Glad are they fixing no questions asked.

Yep definitely sounds like you got a flawed unit. Mine is gapless, silent, and solid as a brick. Good luck with your replacement.

This is great news to me! Ha ha. No but really I have the exact same problem. And it does make the sound too. And the otterbox commuter case they gave me has a big gap on the rubber at the bottom by the back button. Guess I'll ask for a replacement?
FWIW I posted on the forums at Motorola and got a response from the forum manager so maybe they are going to investigate.
I certainly could not go two years (or even a month) with this issue. If replacement shows any sign of this problem then I will exchange for different phone.
I grow more attached to the Maxx every day but this creaking on a brand new device is killing the experience. With otterbox its even more pronounced and makes the phone feel hollow and cheap.
I will update as soon as replacement shows up tomorrow.
Surprised since this phone has a incredible build quality. The only thing I hate about this phone is the power button feels like crap that's it.

After calling verizon I was sent to a corporate store to exchange. The ppl were all hesitant to go ahead and do it. I'm like really? I rarely return anything.
The notifications were all messed up not just the volume unsynced with the ring volume but it would only beep not play the ring tones.
After looking at a new in box maxx, I was dissatisfied. The gaps on it were worse than what I have now. So hopefully a software patch is released for the volumes.

I had to return mine as the speakers came badly blown. I had the gap issue too I could see inside the phone. Not too impressed.

Got Replacement... Same Issues!!!
Received replacement from VZW last night...
Same exact issue which leads me to believe this is in deed a build quality issue.
Both phones have the same gap between the back of the screen and the phone back. If you slightly squeeze the left side, you can see it moving and separating.
Both phones have a click/creak about half way up the left side.
I use an otterbox which unfortunately, changes from rubber to plastic right at the point the click happens and results in a hollow feeling.
Is it livable ? Yes, but it's really annoying.
There is also a lot of flex on the back of the phone (both the same).
Terrible. The other ones I looked at were even worse than mine.
Played with a new LG g2 today. Quadrant score of 16000 vs galaxy s4 12000 vs droid maxx at 8000. Beautiful display. Battery is 3000 mah. Can't beat the 199 price tag.

Quite a few people are now complaining of the gap issue. Not to mention there is no way in hell this device is water resistant with the gaps.
Not to mention, the volume rocker is very loose and makes noise with the slightest touch. Probably due to the fact that it hides the SIM card holder and is very fragile.
People are complaining of light bleed at the bottom of the device.
And I have noticed that the capacitive buttons are very inconsistent in brightness compared to each other.
I was loving active notifications but at this point forget it. Time to exercise my Worry Free Guarantee.
I was lucky enough to get a tier 2 tech support at vzw to recommend return/exchange as well as noting it in my account.

I have a very slightly gap on the top of mine, between the screen and bezel. Front the front facing camera to the left corner.

No build quality issues with mine, it's a tank, and it's heavy "Heavy is sign of reliability, and if it doesn't work, at least you can hit him with it" (said in a thick Russian accent) bonus points if you know what movie that is from
My first Maxx (RIP due to physical damage, my fault) had a small space and creak where you described, though only very slight. I asked on the G+ Droid Maxx forum and nobody else had the issue. My second Maxx is flawless.

Hello,
Sorry, I accidentally posted this in the Desire HD forum first (not that it should really matter of course).
I've started to notice that the glass on my Inspire 4G is making a slight snapping noise and moving a bit sometimes when I press on the corners, almost as if the glass is lifting slightly over time. Once I press the corners, it is fine for a few minutes, then I can do it again, hearing the snapping noises.
I want to root my phone and install RCMix HD, but I don't want to void my warranty if the glass is going to lift off my screen in a few months. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Other than this and poor battery life, I absolutely love the phone. It's a HUGE improvement over the xdandroid experience on my Touch Pro 2.
Anyone else with this problem?

Yes, others have complained about the screen lifting. If you are within the 30 day return policy, you can try to exchange it. I don't think it'll completely come off over a long period of time.
yea, i didn't notice till after my 30 days were up. Still trying to find time to call HTC about it, Bugs the crap out of me! I'm sure it will lift to the point of dirt and moisture getting under there though. Damn tape!

If you bought the phone from at&t, they can do a warranty exchange or like you said, call HTC and see what they can do. If you rooted your phone, you need to bring it back to factory original state prior to returning it to either HTC or at&t.

LOL. HTC will do a warranty exchange. Not sure if rat shack will care.
If I do bring it in for a warranty exchange, will the next one just do the same thing? Is this common to all Inspires, or are most alright?
I know others have complained about the screen lifting or moving near the search key. Others have also complained about the lcd making funny colors while pressing on the search key. I guess its a hit or miss.

Mine is also doing it
Sometimes it gets really bad and so annoying knowing that later through normal use eventually the glass will come off and or get all kinds of dust/lint under the glass.
I got mine @ Costco on launch day and they mentioned 90 days to replace if defective and after 90 days that I would have to deal with HTC for warranty? Is this true has anyone else dealt with Costcos wireless, will they replace it?
Funny thing is on launch day my brand new Inspire had white specks of lint under the glass and within the week I got it replaced and they agreed its defective.
So this could be an uprising defect.

I bought mine directly from AT&T, and am still in my buyer's remorse period. So my biggest decision is whether to get another Inspire 4G or to switch to another phone. I love this phone, but don't want to get another if it is going to have the same problem. However, I don't know what other phone I would get in its place.
My corner by the search button is now visibly elevated. Either I just now noticed this, or it is rapidly getting worse. At this rate, I feel the glass would be off completely by next month.

There is no lifting or moving on mine, though I can get a tiny bit of distortion if I hold down the search key firmly, however, you really have to press hard to get that, in normal use it is fine.
Edit-I guess some of this is like the patient who tells his doctor "it hurts when I move my arm this weird way", to which the doctor responds "Don't move it that way"
Damn... Mine is doing the same thing. This is bothersome...
It's not noticeable for me, unless I concentrate on it while I'm pressing on it. Also, if I hit the search button like others here, it discolors the screen.
Are there people out there who this doesn't happen to?
I'm considering "upgrading" to the Atrix. I really love the Inspire, but if it's just going to fall apart or get dust under the screen, I won't be able to handle it. The battery life of the Atrix entices me too, but there's just something special about the Inspire...
How long is the warranty on our phones? I suppose I could just replace it a few times before the warranty is up, but if my last replacement has the same issue later... I just don't know.
I sure wish that AT&T would have nabbed the Sensation. Then I would be switching right now, no question.
It's a "feature"
Mine does it, but it doesn't effect the phone. It's in a case so I don't even notice it now.

I wouldn't consider that an "upgrade". The manufactures warranty lasts a year.
Seems the only solution to fix this problem is to hit the search button with a hammer xD.
All jokes a side as long as there is no dust and the glass isn't seriously falling out of the phone, I would just chalk it up as normal. Every phone has its quirks.

Hence the quotes around "upgrade"
Anyway, I agree that every phone has its quirks, and that's fine. For me, the relatively short battery life of the Inspire is a quirk. But a lifting screen isn't a quirk, but a straight-up defect. A defect should never be considered "normal", even if it happens to all phones of a certain model.
I'm going to go and exchange the phone this afternoon. If the display model at the store is okay, with no lifted screen, I will go with the Inspire again. If the display model is lifted as well, I may go with the Atrix. Hopefully the bootloader protection will be broken someday, and development will flourish.
It really is a bummer for me though, as I really do love my inspire.
By the way, just got off the phone with HTC to see if this was a known issue that was being fixed in manufacturing. Apparently, my representative had never heard of the problem. Must be so slight that most people aren't noticing the problem.
Anyway, It sounds like it isn't being actively worked on to fix the issue.
If i push the glass in the corner of the search key, i can feel the glass mive and it creeks too.

My right lower corner bleeds out a little if I push on it real hard and so does the left side but screen is not elevated at all. it's as flat as it can be. There is no dust trapped. This phone is like 1 month old. I also went to the at&t store and checked out to the display model and all are the same but none had the screen elevated.
This may be an individual issue. But I also tried to push the atrix and captivate on the right lower corner and they dont bleed.

Talk about a pita, I have been transferred to everyone under the sun at htc and at&t with no one telling me anything but send it in. I don't know about you, but I can't live without my phone for that long due to work.
Should've bought it at Best Buy. Geek squad protection plan is expensive but very well worth it for oh crap moments or times like these.
So I was dying to get one of these on launch day and when I finally received mine, it had a squeaky left bezel, bad light bleed on the left and right, and minor light bleed on the other sides. The squeaking and light bleed was so bad that there was no way I was keeping it.
Luckily, I received another one the next day. The bezel on this one was good, no squeaks and the light bleed was very tolerable. It also has a couple of specs of dust under the screen but they haven't really bother me. So I returned my first one and have been using this one for two weeks now and have been loving it.
I then received the 32GB version today. The bezel has no squeaks but there are multiple specs of dust under the screen and there are also a couple of tiny chips in the glass. WTF!!
I really wanted the 32GB version but after my experience with the three tablets I am just sticking with the one I've been using and returning it. I think $400 is the max I want to spend on a product with horrible quality control. I'm even worried that the one I've been using is gonna start developing problems over the next few months! I'm also afraid of exchanging because there is a good chance the replacement will be the same or worse than the original.
It's just very frustrating. I can't remember any other product I've purchased that had so many quality control issues right out of the box. Anyone else feel the same way I do?

At least your touch screen is working! (link)
Anyway, the best way to have ASUS improve their quality control is probably returning all the bad ones (so that they are financially concerned), as well as calling their customer service number to complain.
Sorry to hear you have had problems but I must say my experience (thus far) has been excellent my unit feels solid, no dead pixels, no dust and minimal light-bleed, just a touch at the bottom and the right side that is only even slightly noticeable on rare occasions.
Only thing I'm not 100% happy about is the battery life, the dock seems to drain like a tap! Maybe it will settle down after a few cycles and I think a firmware fix is in the pipeline for this.
mine is fine. No issues with build quality here. First batch model by the way.
If u wanna see some serious light bleed try a ipad2 under full brightness. Its extremly worse than my transformer

Xreflection, got mine from Walmart last Wednesday when they had that brief selling period (after 6 previous cancellations I received from various places)...arrived 'next day' on Friday. It's great! No screen bleeding, pixels are fine, case is fine - I'm well pleased!
And Yelp I was a little worried, too. But, it's great...so snappy on the wifi where I know having iPad1 had a lot of wifi problems that I returned it- I don't with this-happy customer! Have fun!
I returned my second TF due to a speaker failure issue. I returned my first due to the speaker volume out of sync issue. Im not sure if its a problem with pieces from same batch. Im scouting again online hopefully to get a peice from subsequent batches maybe which wont have the issue. I like the experience on the device though

Mine is fine and I am loving it. The toshiba folio 100 was a pig and deserved all the bad press.
This is a million times better user experience for me and lots of the apple fans are complaining too, if they can't get it right with ips, who can?
If asus keep developing and get a decent quad core with ips to market, then i will defiantly upgrade.

Another apple light bleed story
I can see why you might be disappointed, Its not perfect, but it is the best one i have used.
I bought two TF's and one dock. The first TF went sleep and never woke up. I sent it to ASUS, they still have it. My second is running great. No issues with it whatsoever. The dock works great also. I'm very happy with the build quality of all three items.
Just got my AT&T One X a couple days ago, and I noticed that the bottom two corners of the display are very slightly raised, and pressing down on them pushes them in, and presses against the display as if the entire display assembly is raised. In dark areas, there is noticeable light leak from the capacitive buttons where the display is raised.
In addition, the circular housing around the camera creaks when pressed in, as if it's ill-fitting. Definitely annoying and concerning.
I took my phone into the at&t store and they told me "oh, all phones are like that to a certain extent, if we exchanged it the new phone would have that too". Should I go back and try harder to exchange?

Yes you should go back. You are paying good money for that phone and the service! Also, there is an old saying that I think that AT&T is forgetting or has forgotten. "The customer is always right."
I am shocked a little that she would just pooh pooh it off like it was all cool and that you would believe that they are all that way? Such a shame that these new shiny expensive phones are having these cosmetic flaws. There was an issue of a discolouration on one of the newer Sony phones.. *shakes head* Hate to say it but this phone was ruined for me when I found out it was gonna be only 16gig..
Good luck there, friend

Wow, that kind of pisses me off for some reason. Don't let retarded ATT personnel tell you what is expected build quality. Most of those floor clerks don't know their ass from their elbow when it comes to technology. Like the other dudes said, take it back and ask for an exchange, make them bring out two or three other units and pick the most solid one of the bunch. You're paying multi-hundred dollars for it and signing a two year contract, don't let those same retards that told me the one x has "a amoled screen" and that I should get it because "it works even with a lumia 900 sim card" lecture you about build quality.

I had similar issues with the creaking and the top right of the screen being "mushy". I had bought mine outright at BestBuy and I took it back and told them it was a defect confirmed online, which for the most part is. When I got the next one not a single creak and screen is solid.
Just take it back and tell them you did your research on the issue and found that it is indeed a defect, because it is.
Common with HTC out seems. My inspire was exactly the same.

Awesome! Went to the AT&T store again, got a manager, they basically said "oh yeah well that's just how displays work, if you touch a TV screen with enough pressure it does that too". I told them I only have to lightly tap on the screen for it to warp, and they said because the phone just came out last week they haven't gotten enough feedback from people to know of any potential issues, and if my problem was impairing my use of the phone then they'd replace it, but because I can still use it they "can't replace it". He said he was going to email his HTC rep and see if my problem is a common issue, and let me know later today.
That is such bull****, they can't replace it because it hasn't been out long enough and it's only a cosmetic problem? I clearly showed them how it was different from the display models, and they still said oh its just too new to tell. Great.

Great.

Go to a different store, post on their forum, "tweet" at them, hit them on facebook.
Honestly, it seems like the social media people at AT&T do a lot better.
Worst case scenario? return the damn thing and take your money elsewhere.

Is it possible to do an exchange at a different store than the one I bought it from?

AT&T told me if I wanted to exchange it I would have to go down town to one of their offices. Apparently they wouldn't let me exchange it at that store. Which is kinda bull, since it's an official AT&T store.

I noticed that the lower part of the screen was not as flush as the top. I just went around the whole phone applying slight pressure and it appears to be flush now. Even before, the difference was negligible.
I saw your pictures too. To be honest, mine does the same but you have to apply some pressure. Same when pressure is applied to the screen.
The screens are VERY close and often adhered to the glass, so yes, pressing down will cause that.
I can replicate the very same thing you show in your pictures, but I do have to apply pressure. This amount of pressure I would NEVER apply in a day to day use.
Looking at your fingers, I can also tell you're applying similar pressure. (the tip of your nail has been pressed so far that the blood flow has been restricted, thus the faded, white hue under the tip of your nail)
I can only conclude that you're being anal about this issue.
If there is light leakage to the extent you have shown WITHOUT applying pressure, I can see why you'd want to exchange.
I just think you're nitpicking at an issue that doesn't exist.
I'm not saying that all phones are flawless or that this phone is flawless. But my hardware resembles what you have described, but I consider them as non issues because they're not really issues at all.
However, when it comes to software of this phone. There is a LOT of be desired, and I've only had the device a few hours.
HORRRRRRIBLE!!!! keyboard, just atrocious.
Weak wi-fi signal, I'm 20 ft from the router with no walls, WTF.
Random network disconnects
flawed multi-tasking
These are the issues you should be MORE worried about.

That's what I thought at first, too. I felt silly for going in there yesterday. But today, its gotten worse; I'm typing this on my phone right now and I can see the lower screen warping as I type. I agree with you, when I took those pictures last night I had to apply slight pressure in the corners to get that effect. However, now all it takes is a regular tap on the lower right quadrant of the screen to see the screen warp. For example, if I press and hold on my home screen (with a gray background) to pull up the wallpaper menu, the screen looks like it does in the third picture I posted. That's definitely not normal behavior.

Sorry I didn't mean to come off as an ass, but your issue MAY be legit, I'm not saying you're lying or anything . Just lots of people on the forums tend to make a mountain out of a mole.
here is my advice. You have 14 days to return the device. I say use it and see what happens. OFTEN times, because of rush to deliver, these phones go from the line into the box, then into the box and then a box....
Basically, let it air out, any glue used to adhere the screen to glass may still be curing.
I've read multiple cases where after a week, similar issues have disappeared.
14 satisfaction policy (30 in CA).... return it and go from there if you can't get anywhere with an exchange.

No, you're fine, I felt like I was just being anal about it as well.
30 here in Arizona as well. So, if they won't exchange it, at least I can return it and buy another one right there.

So I am just wondering if I'm just have a run of bad luck. Bought my one x the release day. Few days later started seeing dead pixels all over the screen. Took it to att and they swap it out no problem.
Second one seem fine the first day but then I notice tons of light leakage like the screen wasnt in all the way around the bottom and right side. The screen would also wiggle and make a popping sound if I pressed on it on the bottem left corner, right corner, and top right corner. The plastic on the bottom would also move if I pressed it.
I happen to luck out and found an att close by that had one in (damn you apple). Now this one the screen is clicking even worse than the second one. If I wipe the screen off I can hear it clicking and popping with even the lightest pressure. Also have light leakage across the bottom again and what looks like single dots almost like a dead pixel even though there is no pixel by the buttons where light is shining through the black. I expect to have att replace this one also.
So I was just wondering am I have terrible luck or should I expect this from all hox? I love the device but really wont keep it if I keep getting shotty devices.
That's some pretty bad luck... Still on my first. No problems except for the tiniest bit of bleed on one side, and I cannot over emphasize tiny. Hope it stays that way too.
Still on first as well

You must have been on a streak of bad luck for your HOX...
I am currently on my second. The first one had a defect in the upper-right side (near the volume rocker and front-facing camera) where it would very loudly "creak" whenever I picked it up and/or was using it. And the screen/display in that area was "mushy" as I was able to be push the internal casing into the polycarbonate shell a few millimeters without hardly any force at all.
I bought it at Best Buy and when I brought it in I just asked IF it would be considered a defect and they suggested replacing it without me even asking. The second one I got is very solid in comparison to the issues from the first one but the volume rocker does "wiggle" a bit and the bottom (near the microphone) "creaks" but only if I apply direct pressure on it. I understand the nature of how the internal "frame" is placed into the "shell" so I don't think those are issues at all so I am very pleased with the build quality. Also, I keep it in a Otterbox Defender now so I don't even notice either issue at all.
This sucks that I'm having this luck but thanks for the feed back.

Some of these small creeks or wiggles are somethings that might just need to be accepted. We are too often perfectionists. Not realists.

I agree that we can sometimes expect too much.
The One X is unique in it's design in that the "internal frame" that holds the display, screen, motherboard, battery, etc. actually "snaps" into the outer polycarbonate shell, not with screws like almost all other smartphones.
The "creak" that was coming from my first HOX was an undeniable defect, it was so loud the BB employees could hear it over all the crowd noise and it would do that just by handling it normally, not to mention the screen had way too much "give". The "creak" in my second HOX is probably just a "normal" side-effect of the design, as it is very faint and only happens when I try, and I have totally accepted that (as I have already mentioned I see it as a non-issue).
But to be honest, I don't think the consumer should just "accept" flaws and poor build quality, things should not "creak" or "wiggle" (that were never meant to) within a few days of use. Some people can deal with it but we should not have to, so if someone is unhappy with their product then they have every right to exchange it or return it.
I'm on my second, first one swapped for connection issues (had to toggle airplane mode for it to work any time I lost service or was in an area with poor reception)... Only to find out that my second does the exact same thing.. considering swapping again because 1.85 screwed it up even more.

I agree that often perfectionist and it's my downfall. I'm ok with the very small light leak I have on this one . But just touching my screen near top and hearing it "pop" just shouldn't happen and afraid it will get worse as time goes on. And seeing as I bought this phone out right I don't feel as if I'm being to unreasonable. I mean I must of traded in 20-35 iPhones in my time for even smaller defects. Going back to the iPhone 3g.

Uuuummmm..... My HTC does not have any of the problems that people have mentioned in the thread. No bleeding light, creeking noises or pixel issues. Not one single issue. I have even dropped it about 5 times and it skidded about 10 feet each time. Still good as new. Actually the builded quality for me compared to the Sony phone is night and day. Sorry to hear about everyone bad luck. So far its been the best phone that I have owned.

I will comment that the camera lens is of a stupid design. That lens got scratched in about 5 minutes of ownership. Just lucky that the scratch is not showing up in photos.

Im wondering if other people's 8X's creak when squeezing the phone sideways or on the screen after a few minutes of use? Also I can see light leaking from the bottom where the screen meets the body of the phone. Want to know if I should get an exchange tomorrow at Microsoft Store since after that I'm pretty far from any Microsoft Stores until I'm past the return date.
My volume rocker squeaks a little and also moves back and fourth when I shake the phone. At the bottom of the phone on either side of the charging port there are light leaks, and on the left and right bottom sides too, which is annoying in the dark. Tempted to take mine back to Phones4u and ask for a new one..
Got a new phone and its much better. I didn't notice if light leaks through bottom anymore, but the screen is definitely more flush though not PERFECTLY flush.
Much more solid phone and power button also has a click and is easier to press now. No more creaks now.

I'll go and exchange mine then I think. Can you take a picture of it in the dark to show if you have any light leaks and post it up? I'd be very appreciative.
My power button feels a bit odd too, it doesn't have a click and feels squidgy, was thinking that earlier. Might have a go on the replacement in store and look at it in the dark to check for light leaks.
Edit: I've attached the best picture I could get of my light leaks/screen fitting. This is with brightness at max, taken with my DSLR. Was yours this bad? I'd be interested to see if this is an issue with other 8X's or just ours.
I haven't had any problems like that with mine yet. I started using a case after the first week though. Hopefully a replacement will fix the issue for you. That's a lot of light coming through.

It is, it's awful. I'm kind of regretting getting the 8X over the 920 to be honest, the blacks seem very light on the screen and the colour seem very washed out (maybe it's just coming from an AMOLED screen that is doing it), might see what they can do for me in store today. We'll see.
Took it back today, they didn't want to replace it but they did in the end. Tried out two brand new Yellow ones in store, both had the exact same issue. Tried a black one, and it's perfect, no light leakage at all. Maybe it's an issue with the Yellow one. Poor effort HTC.
Accepted the Black one as a replacement, but I'm trying to sell it and get a 920 like I should have in the beginning. Doh!

Meh. I have the black one and its an issue all right. Yesterday, my screen totally died. Went to HTC service center today, and the light leakage and inperfect screen flush were listed as "possible user damage". If they decide to classify it as user damage, i'll be pissed.

I went with the 920, had screen flickering issues and random rebooting on it, and all 3 of my replacements. Gave up and got a Note II. lol.
Yes, when I had mine it creaked and the camera lens moved around a little, and the screen was a tad squishy on the bottom right...HTC consistently has awesome designs but
There is always something wrong with their build quality that is maddening.

Crack over Speaker holes
Hi guys, just to add to the build quality problems... I've just had a replacement from Phones4U of my yellow 8X. After just under a month of gentle and careful ownership i noticed a crack appeared over (and through) the holes on the back for the speaker. The crack got bigger over about a week before i had chance to go ask about it in store. to be fair to P4U, the person i spoke to was great and they swapped it out in store, even though i'd originally bought it online.
Came back to this thread to mention it and now having read everything else i'm noticing a bit of creaking when i squeeze the sides and both phones had had the squishy screen edge picture thing which i first read about being a problem on the ONE X. Not sure if that's just normal anyway though really. Oh and neither of my power buttons have clicked and i find myself missing my easy to press home button on my old iPhone 3GS!
Same again!

Well after a month (again) my replacement 8X has developed the crack in the same place.
Phones 4U are gonna swap it for a black model this time, i'm wondering if it's the yellow plastic specifically that's bad. They were less cheery and helpful with the exchange this time stating that because it's a cosmetic fault they don't usually replace them and the first time was 'a goodwill gesture'.
I'm starting to wish i'd just gone for the extra price bump for the Lumia 920 instead now. Guess i'm lucky they've replaced them at all though but i still don't think a phone should crack of it's own free will after 4 weeks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/advanced/drive.png
They also said it's not a widespread fault that they've been made aware of, i was actually hoping someone else on here would have had the same experience to help me confirm it wasn't just bad luck or whatever. I guess everyone else just has the corners rubbing off instead!
I guess I got lucky, my blue 8X seems pretty solid and all the buttons are clicky.
