Major Recovery Issues!! Anyone Else? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I put twelve on my note 10.1 a couple months back I've had major touch screen issues. If I want to scroll up or down. About 90% of the time it registors it as a click, not scroll. Also, I can't create a custom name for my backups. If I try, after 2 or 3rd letter it kicks me out to the very start. And have to click on backup all over again
Every update, I hope it will get better. And never does. Anyone else experiancing this?

Touch screen problems with the Fuze

As of late, my new Fuze (the 3rd one, I exchanged the other ones out because they got kinda scratched up) has been showing poor performance. And then today, the touch screen just stopped working. It still registers the touch, but it's like no matter where I touch it can only go to one of the two soft keys. Has anyone else been having this problem?
I'm going in to switch it out again, but I'm really not sure if I want to keep using the Fuze...overall, it's slow, buggy, and the GPS is trash. I love the phone, but it's just not working.
Are you using the stock ROM or did you use one of the cooked ROMs? I have a Fuze (upgraded from a Tilt) and everything works fine on mine. I read that a lot of people are having issues with the GPS. I did initially --- I could not get any GPS connectivity. I ran HTP GPS Tool and everything worked fine after that. Even after I flash another ROM it works fine. I use TomTom and GoogleMaps regularly and even GoogleMaps can get a GPS lock within 1 minute.
You may want to check the settings for the TouchFlo. Download DiamondTweak and Advanced Config 3.3. They have settings to improve the sensitivity of the touch screen... maybe you need this or at least give it a try.
As for slow, I think this has to do more with the ROM. Since I got my Fuze, the first thing I did was flash one of the cooked ROMs (of course, after HardSPL ).
Good luck.
I'm using the stock ROM, I'm kind of scared to flash a new one. I did all the performance tweaks and it made a pretty big difference, but it's still kind of slow. I can live with it though. The GPS works occasionally, but it isn't nearly as strong as other phones I've used/seen. And the touchscreen problem has nothing to do with the sensitivity, I'm fairly positive it's broken. Like, when I touch somewhere on the screen, it registers the touch as far to the left as possible (ie. I'm trying to close a program or open the task manager and it registers the touch as pressing the Start button). It may have something to do with the fact that I cleaned the screen with a monitor wipe, although I would assume that that shouldn't affect anything. It's just such a coincidence though; I literally used the monitor wipe like 2-3 minutes before it broke or screwed up or whatever. And it's not a software issue. I hard-reset it and it took a good 20 minutes to get past the screen alignment (I think it just gave up on me and went to the next screen). I'm just going to exchange it out for a new one I guess, although I'd really prefer an Xperia X1 at this point (or any point I guess...I just don't want to spend 700 dollars on it)

Dude, I hear ya..... I'm getting the same issue, it registers touch etc, you press your home key it vibrates you softrest with button on back and it starts up and I know its booted WM as I can hear the windows startup sound, It's not the first time this has happened to me, one other time after flashing a cooked rom, It did the same thing then I managed to blindly navigate the device into the bootloader then reflash the device, the screen suddenly decided to come back on at the "tap to setup device" stage, you know with the screen alignment...., then I did like 2 hard resets, cause at the time I thought that this was something to do with it, then everything has been working good as gold up untill last night when I flashed the cooks latest version, it worked for a lil bit but in my messing around with the device, the screen switched off then stayed off, I've been trying the same process that I tryed before, but it's not working, maybe I should of did the 2 hard resets straight away rather then fart arsing around loading cabs etc...?, not sure, as I'm at a loss with this one... maybe it was just on it's way out, upto HTC heaven and there's nothing I can do about it ?, God, I hope not !!, MY next thing I'm going to try is load a stock HTC ROM onto the storage card, and maybe that will work...hmmm??, anyway...do you know anymore or are you at a loss as well ?... Oh BTW, I'm using a Touch HD, with a manilla 2.5, 6.5 ROM, from one of the popular chefs, (I'm not gonna publish the chefs name) as I think it's not really his fault....everyone else seems to be OK, so must be something else, I've wondered sometimes about the amount of writes available on some types of memorys having something to do with it, but it can't be that..?, something with the screen, I've noticed it happens when the battery is running real hot as well !!, anyway if ya find out something, I'm keen to hear as well, as no one seems to be answering my post about it.....

LCD Ghosting/Burn In when using Custom Roms

I recently had a problem with my 1st Touch Pro with image ghosting/ burn in and ive just had it replaced. Now the same problem is happening with the new device. The problem only seams to happen with custom roms being used on the device. If i re-flash my phone back to the default/stock rom i get no screen problems at all.
Any idea why this only happens on custom roms and not the default/stock rom??
edit: ive attached an example of what i mean in image ghosting/burn in. Just in case some people wasn't sure what i meant by it.
More info?
Heya! What was the last ROM you had this problem with? Version info would be extremely helpful as I have heard that specific builds have some graphics bugs.
I've had that same issue as well on 2 different fuze's. Using various builds of EnergyROMs... However, after reflashing to stock and using it awhile, I'd get the ghosting on that too.
Anyone have any ideas?
Ehh my 2nd Fuze is doing this so I'm getting a replacement, and I'll just do the HTC ROM upgrade and keep WM6.1. I'm tired of it, and the landscape view also distorts the start menu icons 90% of the time.
Having flashed back to a stock rom, doing a hard reset... Playing with it for awhile... The ghosting is evident on it as well... I've also had where the bottom section of the screen will flicker quickly...
Anyone else?
I think it's a hardware defect. My first phone did that, and then after a few weeks, I had to get a warranty replacement because the screen eventually went completely black after doing it intermittently).
I've had both ghosting effects & occasional rapid flickering since I first bought the Fuze back in November. It's intermittent but happens most when the device is hot (either from use or simply being in a hot location). So far it always clears up after a while. This happened on the stock rom and every custom rom I've used so far.
I'm fairly certain it's a hardware issue with the Fuze/TP because the ghost will tend to remain there for a while even after a soft reset.
Hopefully my good fortune continues and it doesn't end up breaking permanently some day.
it is definitely a hardware issue.
I just received a "repaired" phone back from HTC today only to turn it on and find the same problem. I had to call again today and complain...and the only thing they could do for me was ask me to send it in again....so pissed.
I literally got 5x FUZE replacements and each had this until this last one I've gotten...!

were they replaced through HTC or ATT?
I am on my third Fuze.
First day when I upgraded to Fuze the screen started doing this. So I took it back to AT&T for replacement. On the drive back home screen on second device started doing exact same thing. Took it back and got yet another replacement. This one works, but I have seen it happen once or twice in the 3 or 4 months I've had it.
AT&T also told me when I got this phone that it was the last exchange I could make for the 90-day exchange. If I had another problem I'd have to send this back to the company. WTF is that all about? You're going to inconvenience me because you keep giving me bad eggs? At least this one works right.
Is anyone with a Touch Pro having the same issues? Or is it all just us AT&T customers?
I have an O2 Xda Touch Pro. The only symptom I have that remotely resembles the ones listed here is the flickering at the bottom. But, in my case at least, the flickering is caused by a particular shade of gray displayed in Opera...and that's the only time it happens. So, again for me, it seems to be a software issue.
Drew
Flickering is another side affect that mine occasionally has... just in the bottom 1/5th or so of the screen... Most easily seen when in landscape mode in messaging.
those are all hardware issues too, its just only being displayed because that certain shade of grey is whats making it visibly noticeable.
Well, we'll see if replacement number 4 has the same issues soon...
They actually offered me a BlackBerry Bold/9000 as a replacement phone like it is even in the same universe.
Hardware differences?
Anyone with a buggy Fuze want to post the part number / sku number etc...? Maybe we are looking at a bad batch or a bad but unannounced hardware version?
I had this too on energyrom, I allways passed it off as a touch flow 3d opengl issue which would draw to the screen.
But thinking about it, it does occour when the device is hot, and the screen flickers also.
But It allways goes away after a soft reset for me.
Vodaphone UK TP
I have this problem too :/
Well, I just got my replacement, and it is doing it as well. I'll post some screen shots of it later on today.
Anyone want to tell me what numbers we want/need?

[Q] Are these problems with cyanogen mod or the actual phone itself?

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem but I just want to make sure. I have an HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile (using Family Mobile) with Cyanogen Mod 10 installed. The problems I'm having are related to the touch screen. First of all, moving icons is really hard because it's like it doesn't detect that I'm still holding the icon. Thus, if I have an icon on the homescreen that I don't want, I usually have to first drag it up one row, then again and again until I get to the top to remove it. It also sometimes launches the app instead of moving it which is really annoying. The next problem is very similar to this one: whenever I'm scrolling through something (like contacts or a webpage, for example) the scrolling is kinda choppy and it sometimes takes a few swipes for it to actually scroll. It also sometimes opens links or the contact or whatever when I just want to scroll. Finally, long pressing is not reliable at all, it usually just considers it to be a tap. I literally spent like 1 minute yesterday just trying to open a link in a new tab before just giving up.
Oh yeah, I'm also experiencing trouble with the keyboard. Certain keys like "t" "c" and "f" are really hard to press. Whenever I try to type those keys in particular, it chooses the two keys on the sides instead (so if I type "f" it inserts "dg" or "gd" instead). I've installed a different keyboard which has kinda helped but it's still a problem because it slows down my typing to very slow speeds.
So basically, it looks like my screen is messed up, or I though maybe the processor is running too slowly to process the input or something like that. Looks like the screen though because I can sometimes identify "trouble spots" on the screen that cause the aforementioned behavior. Anyone else had problems like this before? I've heard that flashing the right radio can fix things like battery life and performance but I've never heard of something like this before. I bought the phone used on the internet so there's no way to get it repaired (besides paying for it of course, but that's not an option for me right now). The vibration also isn't working so I think it must have been dropped and that's why the vibration and screen are now messed up.

Hi,
I found CM ROMS gave poor screen sensitivity .
Not as bad as you are describing, though.
Have you tried a Sense ROM?
I've never used this rom so I'm not sure weather or not this is a rom issue or not. You can find out by posting this question on their rom site. I have however had similar issues with other roms and the problem was solved once I flashed a different rom. What you can do for testing purposes is download another rom and see if there problem still persists. If it does than you know it's your device. If the issue is gone then the problem would be with the rom itself. Just because no one else is experiencing the issue it does not necessarily mean it's the device. I was using a rom once And had a lot of crazy issues going on. On the rom website they said it must be my device however after I installed a new rom all my issues we're gone never to appear again. So everyone's device is different. Do some testing and that will answer your question. Try out a couple of other roms, if the issue is gone than it was the rom. If it's still present with the other roms then it's your device. Good luck and I wish you the best. Hope this is helpful.

I'll try one today. I've held back from trying different ROMS because I don't want to screw everything up and be left without a phone for a few days. But now it's the weekend so I'll back everything up and try a sense rom.

I tried installing a sense rom but it didn't install correctly. I started the install and one second later it said it was done. When I rebooted it threw me back into Cyanogen Mod 10. Any ideas?
I have elegancia installed now, same problems. i'll be re-installing CM10 since it had some really nice features. I guess I'll just deal with it then.
The only possible solution i can think of is the ground pin.
Check this thread... and i hope it will help you..

I have no lag on my Infinity

I just wanted to document my experience with my Infinity in case any other newcomers come along and read this.
I just bought a TF700T second hand on craigs list. I wasn't aware of the performance issues before I got it. I only remembered the marketing material when it came out. At first, I had a lot of lag. I did a factory reset and the issue persisted. I then put clockwork on it and tried various roms, performing a full wipe between each. The issue was better, but I still got a lot of lag, especially with Chrome.
I gave up and figured I would put it back to the stock rom, or close enough to it, and resell it. I flashed the plain old stock JB rom found in the development section, the one that was only deodexed with no other mods, did a full wipe (including the system partition), flashed it, and let it sit for a little while. I've set it back up and have been using it a couple of hours a day with no issues.
I wanted to make a quick note just in case someone else buys a TF700 and comes looking for help. I figured this might at least help someone out there a little bit.

Give it a week and your lag will be back though.
That's fair. I'll give it a few weeks and see how bad it gets and report back on this thread. It's expected for any Android device to start lagging a little with use and time. A tiny bit of lag isn't something I mind - that's par for the course. It was the 30 second wait time for an app to open, or the 15+ second wait time for keyboard presses to register. Unfortunately, I was seeing a lot of that on a various roms.

Have you tried data2sd. My lag was pretty annoying so I finally took the time to do the data2sd mod and I am hoping this will make a big difference. I will report back in a few weeks.
I have not. To be honest, if I have to go that route I would rather sell the tablet and get an Encore 2 or something. The little I read of that mod, I would need a good class 10 sd card. I would also want to buy a 32gig or 64 gig card for the storage space. That raises the cost of the tablet too much for me. With that said, I'm getting an occasional lag opening apps, but other than that everything is working fine still. The performance is about on par with my Droid Maxx as far as usability and responsiveness go for the most part. I use it mostly for reading things though. I'm not a heavy user.

After doing the full unlock process and wipe back to factory, I installed CM11 M10 Monday night. There is a little lag, but nowhere near what I had with stock for 2+ years.
I was getting random crashes and reboots with CM11 when using nightlies back in june. They were especially frequent when using chrome. Is M10 any more stable?

Aging or a software problem?

My Note 10.1 is extremely slow recently. I mean it can work normally for half an hour and then hang for a minute or not allow me to turn the screen on for 30 or more seconds. Is this because of age? Is the flash inside degraded to a point it slows everything down or maybe clear new ROM will fix this? I am asking because I am not exactly sure I will be able to load a new ROM on it (the recovery is a bit broken, but it will probably be possible through Odin). If it is happening to other old, heavily used Note 10.1's I will just leave it as it is, instead of risking of breaking it completely. So, how are your good old Note 10.1's behaving lately?
One replace battery if you think thats at fault .
Two wipe and install stock rom via Odin .
Nand / flash should not degrade in such a short time .
It took me a while, since I use the tablet very rarely and have gotten used to it's slow downs but I have solved the problem - it was caused by the kernel it had. Changing the kernel to a new, stable one solved the issue. The tablet is still a bit slow, but no longer hangs for 30 seconds like it used too. Thanks everyone for help.

I experienced the same problem until recently with my GT-n-8010, when it still was under the official 4.4.2 firmware. I also thought about an age problem, but it was definitely not. I've been trying for the last four days the CM13 BETA developped by senior member Lirokoa - everything is explained in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-1/development/rom-lollipop-t3269375 - and it's just as if I had gotten a brand new device, so it really was a software problem, not a hardware one. I advise you to try it too, you should not regret it
