[Q] Are these problems with cyanogen mod or the actual phone itself? - HTC Sensation

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem but I just want to make sure. I have an HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile (using Family Mobile) with Cyanogen Mod 10 installed. The problems I'm having are related to the touch screen. First of all, moving icons is really hard because it's like it doesn't detect that I'm still holding the icon. Thus, if I have an icon on the homescreen that I don't want, I usually have to first drag it up one row, then again and again until I get to the top to remove it. It also sometimes launches the app instead of moving it which is really annoying. The next problem is very similar to this one: whenever I'm scrolling through something (like contacts or a webpage, for example) the scrolling is kinda choppy and it sometimes takes a few swipes for it to actually scroll. It also sometimes opens links or the contact or whatever when I just want to scroll. Finally, long pressing is not reliable at all, it usually just considers it to be a tap. I literally spent like 1 minute yesterday just trying to open a link in a new tab before just giving up.
Oh yeah, I'm also experiencing trouble with the keyboard. Certain keys like "t" "c" and "f" are really hard to press. Whenever I try to type those keys in particular, it chooses the two keys on the sides instead (so if I type "f" it inserts "dg" or "gd" instead). I've installed a different keyboard which has kinda helped but it's still a problem because it slows down my typing to very slow speeds.
So basically, it looks like my screen is messed up, or I though maybe the processor is running too slowly to process the input or something like that. Looks like the screen though because I can sometimes identify "trouble spots" on the screen that cause the aforementioned behavior. Anyone else had problems like this before? I've heard that flashing the right radio can fix things like battery life and performance but I've never heard of something like this before. I bought the phone used on the internet so there's no way to get it repaired (besides paying for it of course, but that's not an option for me right now). The vibration also isn't working so I think it must have been dropped and that's why the vibration and screen are now messed up.

Hi,
I found CM ROMS gave poor screen sensitivity .
Not as bad as you are describing, though.
Have you tried a Sense ROM?

I've never used this rom so I'm not sure weather or not this is a rom issue or not. You can find out by posting this question on their rom site. I have however had similar issues with other roms and the problem was solved once I flashed a different rom. What you can do for testing purposes is download another rom and see if there problem still persists. If it does than you know it's your device. If the issue is gone then the problem would be with the rom itself. Just because no one else is experiencing the issue it does not necessarily mean it's the device. I was using a rom once And had a lot of crazy issues going on. On the rom website they said it must be my device however after I installed a new rom all my issues we're gone never to appear again. So everyone's device is different. Do some testing and that will answer your question. Try out a couple of other roms, if the issue is gone than it was the rom. If it's still present with the other roms then it's your device. Good luck and I wish you the best. Hope this is helpful.

I'll try one today. I've held back from trying different ROMS because I don't want to screw everything up and be left without a phone for a few days. But now it's the weekend so I'll back everything up and try a sense rom.

I tried installing a sense rom but it didn't install correctly. I started the install and one second later it said it was done. When I rebooted it threw me back into Cyanogen Mod 10. Any ideas?

I have elegancia installed now, same problems. i'll be re-installing CM10 since it had some really nice features. I guess I'll just deal with it then.

The only possible solution i can think of is the ground pin.
Check this thread... and i hope it will help you..

Touch screen problems with the Fuze

As of late, my new Fuze (the 3rd one, I exchanged the other ones out because they got kinda scratched up) has been showing poor performance. And then today, the touch screen just stopped working. It still registers the touch, but it's like no matter where I touch it can only go to one of the two soft keys. Has anyone else been having this problem?
I'm going in to switch it out again, but I'm really not sure if I want to keep using the Fuze...overall, it's slow, buggy, and the GPS is trash. I love the phone, but it's just not working.
Are you using the stock ROM or did you use one of the cooked ROMs? I have a Fuze (upgraded from a Tilt) and everything works fine on mine. I read that a lot of people are having issues with the GPS. I did initially --- I could not get any GPS connectivity. I ran HTP GPS Tool and everything worked fine after that. Even after I flash another ROM it works fine. I use TomTom and GoogleMaps regularly and even GoogleMaps can get a GPS lock within 1 minute.
You may want to check the settings for the TouchFlo. Download DiamondTweak and Advanced Config 3.3. They have settings to improve the sensitivity of the touch screen... maybe you need this or at least give it a try.
As for slow, I think this has to do more with the ROM. Since I got my Fuze, the first thing I did was flash one of the cooked ROMs (of course, after HardSPL ).
Good luck.
I'm using the stock ROM, I'm kind of scared to flash a new one. I did all the performance tweaks and it made a pretty big difference, but it's still kind of slow. I can live with it though. The GPS works occasionally, but it isn't nearly as strong as other phones I've used/seen. And the touchscreen problem has nothing to do with the sensitivity, I'm fairly positive it's broken. Like, when I touch somewhere on the screen, it registers the touch as far to the left as possible (ie. I'm trying to close a program or open the task manager and it registers the touch as pressing the Start button). It may have something to do with the fact that I cleaned the screen with a monitor wipe, although I would assume that that shouldn't affect anything. It's just such a coincidence though; I literally used the monitor wipe like 2-3 minutes before it broke or screwed up or whatever. And it's not a software issue. I hard-reset it and it took a good 20 minutes to get past the screen alignment (I think it just gave up on me and went to the next screen). I'm just going to exchange it out for a new one I guess, although I'd really prefer an Xperia X1 at this point (or any point I guess...I just don't want to spend 700 dollars on it)

Dude, I hear ya..... I'm getting the same issue, it registers touch etc, you press your home key it vibrates you softrest with button on back and it starts up and I know its booted WM as I can hear the windows startup sound, It's not the first time this has happened to me, one other time after flashing a cooked rom, It did the same thing then I managed to blindly navigate the device into the bootloader then reflash the device, the screen suddenly decided to come back on at the "tap to setup device" stage, you know with the screen alignment...., then I did like 2 hard resets, cause at the time I thought that this was something to do with it, then everything has been working good as gold up untill last night when I flashed the cooks latest version, it worked for a lil bit but in my messing around with the device, the screen switched off then stayed off, I've been trying the same process that I tryed before, but it's not working, maybe I should of did the 2 hard resets straight away rather then fart arsing around loading cabs etc...?, not sure, as I'm at a loss with this one... maybe it was just on it's way out, upto HTC heaven and there's nothing I can do about it ?, God, I hope not !!, MY next thing I'm going to try is load a stock HTC ROM onto the storage card, and maybe that will work...hmmm??, anyway...do you know anymore or are you at a loss as well ?... Oh BTW, I'm using a Touch HD, with a manilla 2.5, 6.5 ROM, from one of the popular chefs, (I'm not gonna publish the chefs name) as I think it's not really his fault....everyone else seems to be OK, so must be something else, I've wondered sometimes about the amount of writes available on some types of memorys having something to do with it, but it can't be that..?, something with the screen, I've noticed it happens when the battery is running real hot as well !!, anyway if ya find out something, I'm keen to hear as well, as no one seems to be answering my post about it.....

Keyboard registering multiple taps

Not totally sure how to describe this, but my Optimus 3D seems to be registering a single tap on the on-screen keyboard as multiple presses, usually 2-3. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is it more of an android issue rather than with the phone? Or could it possibly be resolved through the installation of an alternative keyboard from the market?
The issue seems to occur both when charging and when running on battery power, and occurs in all applications I've tried it in so far. (Browser, Market, YouTube, Messaging)
I'm just concerned there could be an issue with the screen, so I'd like to try and get it sorted sooner rather than later, since once you go past a week or two getting a faulty phone handset sorted becomes a nightmare with retailers.

The screen of the phone is very very sensitive. What happens is that you touch the letter and then before you have the time to remove it the phone registers a continuing press. This happens because even if you dont tap with the same presure, the phone still picks up a presure and registers more taps. It isn't really something you should worry about.
Ahhh I see. Is there a way to reduce the sensitivity at all? It's a rather annoying bug and makes it next to impossible to type anything longer than just a few words using the on-screen keyboard.

I would recommend you to compare your phone with another O3D if you can. If some other O3D's work nice for you, then probably it is a harware defect.
I have never experienced such a problem on mine.
Hm, I don't know anybody else with one, however the store I bought it from did have a demonstration unit so I can pop in and try out theirs to see if it also has the same issue. If not at least I can demonstrate the problem to them.

Sounds like a plan to me
I had the same problem as the OP.
It was not from the beginning and started totally unexpected and there was a very noticeable difference before/after. Typing became almost impossible, had to do it veeery carefully.
However, a simple reboot solved my problem. Didn't happen to me again since...
Hi, totally new to Android after being with Apple a long time but loving my O3D except battery life but i'll live with that.
Does have a few niggles but it makes my iphone look sooo out dated!
Right, i have similar issue with letters duplicating but it only happens every now and then and is cured by restarting the phone.
Looks like a software glitch because typing on this phone is as good as when i use my iphone. I'm more than happy with the sensitivity.
I never thought of restarting the phone, but I've done it now and it seems to have fixed the problem. Now I just need to get used to the bigger screen then my crappy old iphone.
I love the screen size in general, though I downloaded a pinball game that only works in portrait which is not really playable because the phone is too heavy to hold only with the bottom.
Its certainly a lot easier to type than I expected coming from the N900. I really REALLY wanted something like the Optimus 3D but with a real keyboard, but sadly I can't see it happening. This "thinner is better" fad really winds me up, I prefer function over form any day of the week.
Speaking of typing, I certainly have had the key repeat problem - I thought it was a build up of grease on the touch screen confusing it. It was quite annoying as my first impression was that typing on this thing is almost as good as a hardware keyboard, then the key repeat issue surfaced. Lets see if firmware 10d fixes it.
update to HTC_IME and u wont have such problem anymore. I had same issue with standart LG keyboard
I'm having the same problem with my keyboard.
It started recently and it's very annoying to try to write a txt with a such sensitive response from the keyboard.
Restating the phone seems to have sorted the problem but, it's weird...
i had this same problem after using the phone perfectly for 2 weeks it suddenly started this annoying habit,i took it back to the carphone warehouse and they exchanged it,so far the replacement is fine.

[Q] Touchscreen problem when typing on keyboard?

I'm on stock 4.0.4 and I have an i9020a. Ever so often, when I'm typing on the keyboard (sending a text message or whatever) one key will stop responding to light touches... you need to press it hard. Sometimes it will be the a key, the s, key or the f key etc. It happens once or twice every two days i would say. I'm just a bit scared that it could develop into something worse? Should I be worried? Is it a software or hardware problem?
Thanks a lot!
Try to download other keyboard app, like go keyboard...
If downloading a keyboard app doesnt work.
You would have to probably to a reset.
Wipe dalvik cache and cache. Make sure you back up EVERYTHING onto. eg gmail.
Apps can be redownloaded from your saved list in google play store.
Back up using titanium back up or any other back up program that works for you.
When I unlock my screen and the keyboard is still there because I left it when I locked my phone... I got the same problem too.. I need to re-lock and unlock it..
Yeah.. clearing cache and dalvik cache doesn't work. I've also done many factory resets and I still have this problem.
Have you tried clearing data for Android keyboard under settings | apps | all?

Developer options has a touchscreen "test" feature. Can you verify that the phone registers touches in that region with and without the keyboard?

The phone doesn't register touches in that region (I tried with the touchscreen test feature) It happens really rarely, but should I be concerned? It seems like I had more problems with ICS then Gingerbread. I still have my year warranty, but don't wanna use it up yet.. I don't know what to do?
You don't "use it up", you'll still have 12 months warranty from the day you bought the phone, you will however be without your Nexus for a 2-3 weeks.
If there is no screen protector or similar in the way and you have the same problem with different ROMs (particularly stock ROMs), i would straight up classify it as hardware and get samsung to sort it out for you. It's not so much that it could get worse or something like that, but that is a problem which you don't need to be going through.
Just be sure to fully test some stock ROMs, after full wipes, to make sure it is hardware related - if the problem persists, definitely make it samsungs problem.

I don't want to risk losing my Nexus S for 2-3 weeks, for now at least. It's been happening very rarely recently. Maybe once in the past month. For now, I'll continue using my Nexus S but I probably will send it in for repair in September or so
I have a similar problem - only my Nexus S almost NEVER respond to light touches
I ALWAYS have to type slowly and firmly to make it each touch register.
Another broken behaviour about Nexus S' touchscreen (or the driver) is that swipes aren't registered until 3-4 millimeters into the swipe
This means short swipes are often interpreted as taps stopping the motion
Get this: I even had mine sent to repairs but they said Samsung tested it and claimed there were no faults whatsoever!
I'm gessing it's a badly badly designed driver - Google's way of avoiding "accidential taps".
Not sure I'd ever buy another Samsung or google branded phone. Only after THOROUGH testing of that touchscreen.

[HELP] possessed touch screen

so this is a problem ive had on and off for a long time. Basically my phone has these moments where its like the touch screen gets really confused. i touch one place, it registers another place. i tap the screen and it decideds im long pressing. other times it just spazzes out completely and i couldnt even begin to list the different things it starts to do. in the past, the only time it happened was when i plug it into an aux port in a car, in which case it would usually just spaz out in the music app i was using, now it tends to call and end and call and end the call a lot too. it wouldnt do it when i plugged normal headphones in though. used to, i would simply reflash or change roms. and the problem seemed to subside for a time. lately though, its gotten really bad. even on android revolution (stock and stable, no mods or anything) it just does really crazy things. lol i cant ignore this issue anymore, and when ive searched for the problem, i cant find anything specific to the inspire 4g. could it be a rom thing? or possibly just a shotty screen and wiring or some other hardware problem?

I had this same issue with my mytouch 3G slide. Eventually it stopped working completely. There were times for awhile that the only way to get the phone to work was to beat it against my palm. Then one day I was texting and it suddenly stop. I tried replacing the digitizer but come to find out it was one of the ribbons.
Your best bet is to go back to pure stock. Unroot. Do whatever it takes to get your back to factory as you can. A fresh start. If the problem is still there (which I'm going to assume it is) us the phones warranty through HTC (not your carrier) and tell them your problem. They will either send you another inspire for free or send you the next best thing. The inspire is on the EOL list as of the 24th so u may get the next in line.

Touchscreen sensitivity issue

Hi there guys,
I've been researching on this problem i've got with my Oneplus. It seems that the touchscreen is'nt responsive enough.
Often when i'm scrolling trough (for example) facebook, the phone has a hard time recognizing my swipes, and picks up regular touches instead. Which is causing me to open or like posts when i'm just trying to scroll trough. If i'm scrolling trough my homescreens while just slightly touching the screen, it acts up really hard.
The screen just isn't responsive enough imo.
I'm wondering if other people got the same issue, and if it is hardware or software related.

Hmm, maybe you just got used to press a bit harder onto the screen (which helps). Would be great if it's really disapearing after a while
Got mine for 3 days now.

I have the exact same issue with my OnePlus after 3 weeks of use. At first it was the swype issue where the phone wasn't picking up swypes properly on the middle left side of my screen. I use a pattern unlock so it's annoying when the dots don't connect.
The next thing was not picking up my touches properly so when ever I use SwiftKey and they recommend words, I could never properly select it because the touchscreen wasn't registering properly.
I did a factory reset and it solved the problem at first but it's now back after 2 days. It's not as bad as before but still persistent. There are tons of people on Redit, Cyanogen and the OnePlus forums that are reporting the same problem.
The good news is it seems like a software and not hardware issue, hopefully the permanent fix can come soon.
Possible solution to the supposed OnePlus One touch sensitivity problem
Settings→Developer Options→ Scroll About Half Way and UNcheck "block gesture touch events"
Also try and see if unchecking "Adaptive backlight" in Settings→Display & lights→ Adaptive backlight, helps.
Of course none of these are permanent solutions. And this problem is real. But maybe the "solutions" above help.
ive not had these issues just yet. but i do get annoyed by gesture control
This still needs to be addressed. It's almost as bad as an old capacitive touch screen!
I got my phone maybe a month after it was released. After exactly 4 months the touchscreen input died and lost all sensitivity. Typing became impossible. After going back and fourth with support for 2 months they finally sent me another one. The new one was excellent for EXACTLY FOUR MONTHS!! Almost to the DAY! My damn touch is broken again and I can't type. I'm furious! I'm also 1wk outside warranty.
With the first phone I tried every hack, crack, rom, reformat, anything I could find. Nothing would restore the touch. I assume it's a hardware issue. I've been looking around for a solution but haven't found anything. If there is anything, I would appreciate some direction.
Sorry for everyone that ever wasted their money on OnePlus, I won't be getting any more products from them...
