After the JB update (to 4.1.1.), wifi keeps dropping, in the sense that I can still see the wifi signal on the status bar, is not grey, but no data packages are sent/received. What is weird is that many times I can get the wifi to work again by locking and then unlocking the screen, even though I have the wifi sleep policy set to never. Having it dropping all the time was a big annoyance, so I tried the tips regarding wi-fi routers settings (on 2 different connections) and different wi-fi settings (like having auto IP support on and avoid weak connections off, with stamina mode also off). Nothing changed.
I have done countless factory resets and software reinstalls through PC Companion and SUS and nothing changed, so I took it to the repair center where they downgraded my phone to ICS. Even though before my JB update my wi-fi worked like magic, now with ICS the wifi keeps dropping. I have done other factory resets and software reinstalls before updating my phone to the latest JB (4.1.2.). Again, no improvements.
What else can I do, besides rooting? Can it be a hardware issue?
Same, but you can get 4.1.1,what firmware name?

Actually, I've checked and it seems I have tried the 11.0.A.7.5 firmware (ICS) and 11.2.A.0.21 and 11.2.A.0.31 (JB 4.1.2.).
sounds lika a hardware problem bro. If it was software problem then it would be a module problem which would be fixed by reflashing the kernel which is where the wifi modules are written. Do you have a ST26a or ST26i.

A ST26i (the global version of the phone). Thank you so much for your answer. So, the reflashing of the kernel is what happened when I reinstalled the software? The question sounds silly, but I'm a noob...
Also, I'm a girl...
Thank you again!

Yes thats why i think its a hardware problem flashing the firmware reflashes the kernel aswel so if it does not work after that then you will have to send it for repair.

Thanks for your explanation...now I hope the guys from the service will understand this issue...last time they only downgraded the software and overlooked the touchscreen issue for which I have sent them the phone (I had to send it again for repair afterwards).

It lagged really, really bad, making it unusable at times - so that was the second issue for which I have sent it at the service despite the wi-fi problem. After they have downgraded the software and the problem with the touchscreen persisted, I insisted to have them look to the phone a second time and they discovered they had to change the touchscreen. So that one is solved. The wi-fi issue I described remained Guess I'll pay them another visit....

If it is the wifi chip it can not be fixed as it is just a small chip on the motherboard i don't think it can be fixed. is it still under warranty.

Hello,
When in a call, sometimes the other end cannot listen to me, but I am able to listen to them.
Terminating the call and re-calling "fixes" this.
Is there something I can do?
Is that a known bug or sth?
Thank you for your time!
@pspuser007 What ROM are you on? What mods are you using?

yes....
note;- E will factory reset if you choose repair option
if there is a update, then do it
If on stock ROM, I suggest you go hit up a shop or something that helps people with phone problems. Something might be loose in your phone.. May be a SIM Card problem, who knows..

Similar problem over here
I have similar problem.
When I call someone or if someone calls me after random period of time that other side can't hear me, and I can hear then normally and sometimes voice sounds like digitalized signal and then I know they can't hear me. Only solution so far is that I blow in cell phone (where the mic would be) and after that they can hear me normally again until problem reapears after another random period of time.
Since it is under warranty I took it to the service and what they did is factory reset and that's it. I have to mention that I sent it 5 times so far to service and every single time they couldn't find the problem. 5th time I gave my cell phone to Telenor salesman to use it (because I bought it in Telenor shop) and even she experienced problem after 3-4 min of talking.
After few days they replaced entire motherboard of my cell phone hopping that this will solve the problem because they still couldn't find the exact problem and all worked well. Until two days ago when it all came back.
I don't have any other apps than Viber, all other apps are stock.
I have never messed with ROMs or any other part of cell phone hardware nor software. All is stock since phone is 6 months old.
It's hard to believe that SIM would be a problem since I got brand new SIM when I bought the phone.
My only suspect so far is my SD card. It's very old.
So for the guy in previous post... Try and take it to the service shop and see what they tell you.
As for me I'm asking all vise developers and members of this forum to help me fix my problem. Any advice would be helpful.
FixIng to be the 3rd time this has happened to my z3 which is otherwise an amazing phone
The software gets locked up
I've seen
Unfortunately android.process has stopped working
Unfortunately sound settings has stopped working
unfortunately camera... Etc etc
What's the deal, i gotta factory reset?
also unrelated sometimes when i call or get a call the mic straight doesn't work, that might be hardware cuz i take videos sometime that come back with no sound too
Kind of confused ?
Flash firmware with Flashtool
you can fix it also by draining the battery fully, used to fix a lot of problems on the Samsung like this but on the sony you cant remove the battery so just turn on all apps and let it drain itself out
once depleted and charged again it turns on and acts brand new

Factory reset the device. If that doesn't help, your device is probably faulty and you should return it.

with wifi turned off same problem nothing happened, phone rebbots during searching the web, during talking, same sh*t,
after hard reset during changing language it reboots 2 times, so with my ugly phone there is no problem with wifi but its a problem with cpu or ram vs rom.

I don't think it's a Wi-Fi issues becuz I am facing the same exact problem, and I'm getting a replacement device too. Becuz it happens even when Wi-Fi is turned off. I think it has to do with the phone can't handle heavy loads when it's doing alot of multitasking the ram management is horrible real bad.

Yea it's just Samsung fault that's all. The only reason I am returning mines though is becuz I rooted it and tripped Knox and now they have came out with a method to root without tripping Knox lol so I am going to get a different one with Knox back to 0x0 but as for the random reboots only Samsung can fix that issue with a software update and don't hold your beath. Because only some devices are getting update which is so stupid.

same problem here
That sound strange .
I have got a little idea about it I don't know if its related to this issue.
It could be due to the network related different b/w c2105 and c2104.
So are you sure that you flashed the suitable ftf for your device.

Hello all, my old Nexus 5's wifi stopped working back in January for no apparent reason. Everytime I tried turning it on for some strange reason it just Grey's out. The MAC Address is also really weird. I tried looking for a solution but to no avail. I'm starting to think that it's a hardware issue. These are what I've done so far for the past 4 months or so:
- rebooted the phone
- wiped the cache
- wiped data using TWRP
- letting the battery drain and charging it again after a couple weeks
- smacking the back side on my hand (lightly of course)
Any help would be much appreciated. Also, it's not my primary phone anymore so I can't tell whether cellular connection would be working or not.
Just did a factory reset and wiped everything, still nothing. MAC Address is just a solid 2.00.000.00. Also, Bluetooth still works.
Try running a stock 4.4 or 5.01 rom. If the problem still exists, I'd say it's a hardware issue.

Hmm, I had a similar problem few months ago, tried flashing the latest stock firmware; didn't help and then moved back to a custom ROM. Strangely, it didn't work at that time too but kept the phone the same for an hour and out of nowhere it started working. Seems like the phone is really dying now.

Still doesn't work for me. I'm gonna try taking apart the phone to see if the wifi chip is ok, hopefully it's not a hardware issue.
Same problem here, even on custom ROMs and factory images,
Is there any hardware solution? Maybe an external WiFi antenna or something like that?

Not that I know of unfortunately. Guess we'll have to buy a new Mobo for the phone
Hi guys! Since today I hopped on the "activating wifi" train too!
I'm on Lineage 14.1 CAF, and did a full wipe and flash, no changes.
I followed a guide in a post here on XDA to recreate the MAC address file, after that wifi worked for a couple of minutes, then went down again.
I thought about flashing MM stock image, but after reading your posts I think i'll keep my phone this way until I buy an OP6.
Luckily I have 15Gb of cellular data
What I did was I opened the phone and took out the motherboard and disconnected the battery from everything, then took out the heatsink that's on top of the wifi chip. It worked for a bit then it stopped working for good. It definitely has to be a software issue because Bluetooth is working fine.
It could be a hardware problem. I have two Nexus 5 motherboards where the wifi tries to turn on and, eventually, the slider goes back to the off position.

It worked for me hope it can help you also
