Dropped S4 Screen Cracked & No Display - Galaxy S 4 General

Dropped my S4 :crying: Its slightly physically damaged at the top, screen has a hairline crack (beneath the glass top) & not displaying anything apart from some few greenish lines just at the top left corner. Phone is powering up in fact my post was to going to be a question because when I plug it into the PC it appears as normal but Kies wouldn't let me access because its locked BUT managed to (remote) unlock using Cerberus. So now I'll shamelessly plug-it & say its worth the 2.99€ asking price. Managed to backup all my stuff now to take it to a Samsung Customer Care/Repair Centre.
Which brings me to my other question. Can this be repaired under warranty? The phone fell from a fairly short distance & has a S-View Case.

Unfortunately No unless your with Asurion your going to have to pay full price for a new phone. Even if your insured with Asurion you still have to pay a deductible. Check with your carrier if your paying for insurance. If not you can always buy a Digitizer on eBay or Amazon and replace it yourself its a little cheaper. Sorry you broke your phone that always sucks

Thats not part of the warranty not unless you have extended/accidental warranty which you bought seperately..

Can you please go into more detail on what you did to get into your phone to back the files up?
My screen isnt displaying anything. USB debugging is off. Screen has a pattern lock on it.
I tried ADB but its not detecting my device at all.
Thank you.

What does samsung's warranty actually cover on the s4. Be interesting to know.

hp7909 bought Cerberus. Its an anti theft app that does a few things more... Worth the few $$ to buy as it is good. Not sure if will help once you have a locked phone as it does require some setup from the handset itself....

As mentioned, I have Cerberus anti-theft app installed & the device is fully rooted. I use a pattern lock on my S4 therefore when I plugged into the PC, Windows would not display the files nor Kies saying that I need to unlock the device first. With Cerberus, through their web interface & with the S4 powered ON & with net (3G or WiFi) access I was able to send an Unlock command. Subsequently the device popped up/open in Windows & Kies allowing me to backup & copy files off it.
Just an update: Took the device to the Samsung Customer Centre here & they do offer Accidental Damage Cover for the S4 but only for phones bought in the region & not an 'import' like mine... So much for being an early adopter :crying: Replacement of the screen will cost close to (approx.) US $300 including labour, etc but they only have the white ones at the moment

My phone is going home. :(

The power button decided it doesn't want to work anymore. Since its been rooted, and I don't trust the shops in town, it's going back to HTC for repairs. They told me it will get wiped during the service (and I will do a factory reset before it leaves), what are the chances of it coming back locked with the factory ROM installed?
Any other things, besides the S3, I should watch for when it comes back? I'm not worried about losing LeeDroid, it's all backed up, and can be restored as soon as it comes home.
Well the power button is a part of the removable SIM cover so unless it's the button in turn being pressed by that that's causing your problem then it's a very easy repair... All bets are of as to whether they'll also RUU your phone for you.

The switch itself is on the phone. Only the physically pressable part is on the SIM cover.
I don't think you will get a s3 version back given the fact that you sent out s4 version and this repair should not be so difficult that they have to give you a replacement.
But, they will very likely factory reset your phone and put everything back to "out of box status". So you will have stock Rom, locked bootloader. I learned this from other threads where people saying it is part of HTC's repair process to flash everything to factory state no matter it's hardware or software repair.

Got the quote back on the repair today.
In order to properly repair your device, the following action(s) will need to be taken which will require payment due to the out of warranty diagnosis:
• Replace Device Main Board

So, when it comes back, it will probably be locked and untampered. It's bad that the guys at T-mobile were telling me to lose it, but I wanted to take the high road and do it right. A main board is $240, btw.

So not worth it...It will be $240 + tax.
You can buy a new one locally for ~$350...Probably could sell the other sucker to some idiot desperate for a deal for $200 as well...
Did they give you any reason why exchanging the mobo is out of warranty? You should ask so if not.
I mean, you sent it in because of a defective power-on button...
They'll just say the reason why is because the HBOOT displays "unlocked".
Honestly if you want to get warranty coverage on an unlocked phone in Europe your best bet is to brick it to QHUSB_DLOAD mode and then send it in.

That was exactly the reason I got. Oh well, it's on it's way back, I can finally put the Nokia 7510 I have been using out of its misery (and mine), and have my One back. There is at least a thread now, in case someone else runs into this problem, they will know what to expect.
I took my tmobile one s back with me to taiwan and got the screen fixed there (HTC has repair/service centers there, it's kinda like an apple store without the products, all they do is help you with your phone)
Anyways, they called me and said, literally, "the mainboad is unstable and needs to be changed" (i sent it in for a cracked lcd) I declined and said just fix the screen....they ended up sending me a brand new/refurb device..

[Q] Nexus Screen gets colored pixel snow

I have a nexus 5 rooted with stock rom and kernel and stock recovery+ xposed+GravityBox and some other xposed modules.
this happened sunday and again today.
I unlocked the screen and then the screen looked like that:
even on reboot the screen still was with the pixel snow
and after a few minutes of locking and unlocking repeatedly the screen turned OK again.
couldn't find a lot of information online.
does anyone knows why has this happened?
has someone experienced this kind of failure?
any advice?
thanks.
It's a hardware failure. Most probably the screen or the Flex cable went bad. It can only be solved by replacing it.
Definitely a hardware fault.... Had exactly the same screen on my n86 when the repair guyz told me that flex cable was damaged...
thanks..
the problem is I bought the phone on ebay and had it sent to my uncle who was in the states for a business trip and then he brought it to me when he finished his trip.
I'm not from the US so I don't know who should I complain to :\
sending it back to the US and **** will take a lot of time and probably money

Totally depends on the device's IMEI. If the IMEI if not of the country you're residing in, warranty goes out of the window. In any case, you need to send it in to get it fixed whether it's under warranty or not.
Good Luck :good:

[Q] Nexus 5 - no signal after water damage!

Hi! My Nexus 5 got water damaged during a hiking trip. When I came home I disassembled and reassembled it, and it started working. However, what I found out was that the phone got no signal to the cellular network. The carrier name shows up, and when I boot the phone, it ask me for PIN-code (which is accepted). When I go into settings where I can select which carrier I wan't to use, it shows all the carriers available, but I can not connect to any of them. Hope you understand my problem and thank you for all help
PS: Also, NFC does not work.

Or just buy a new cover for 25$ with NFC antenna ...
try reassembling the antennas or replacing them they are kinda fragile if you bent em'
MAYBE your in for a 100$ but it's worth tring it last time I check 16gb was still 350$ why not save one if everything else is working but two servicable glitches?
Edit: btw. warranty was void the moment it got soaked before the dissasembly/re part!
When it comes to water damage...and something doesn't work after....to me its not worth messing with. You may have other issues you've yet to discover as well.
Time for a new phone. Why spend a bunch of cash just to end up realizing its a lost cost.
Just me 2 cents. ?
Think I'll just buy a new phone. When I turn my phone off, it won't boot up again until I de and reassemble it again. Strange... Thanks for all help

Water Damaged Z3

So i never realized that z3 is only waterproof for 30 minutes, i took it into a pool party, and was surprised it wouldn't turn on, and tried turning it on outside water.
It's been 3 days, i have letting it dry itself. When i plug in the charging cable, it turns the charge light on (red) but nothing more, does not turn on. When i press and hold the power button, the red charging light behings to flicker.
When i plug it into pc, it comes up as unrecognized usb device. No disks, or files accessible.
Sony PC Companion fails to read it too, and fails to repair it. It doesn't go past the disconnect and connect usb with volume button down.
Flashtool also fails to recognize it.
I have charged it for long now.
Questions about what can I do with this -
1. Is there a chance that replacing battery will help?
2. Will it be possible to recover my photos from the device?
3. Does anyone have an estimated cost range from Sony center for repairing this? My insurance deductible is 175, i'm trying to figure out if i should call it in or send to sony.
4. Any other options/alternatives/ processes that i can try. Worst case, i call insurance, but i can see what we can do before i do that.

That's unlikely. I think the mainboard is damaged.
2nd
I don't think so. Except if you know a friend who can do SMD soldering. Ask him. If you have no such friend: unaffordable. If some photos are on the SD card, put it in a reader at your PC and see what happens.
3rd
175 in what currency and country?
Sony will see it's a water damage. How long have you had your device in water? If it were 35 or 45 minutes, send it in. If it were 6 hours... There are "sensors" that can show how long they have been under water. I don't know whether this kind of sensor is in your phone or not. But it's possible.
4th
I don't think your mainboard can be repaired at all. Maybe the LCD and Touch still work.
If you can geht a device with broken screen for under 175, you can put it's mainboard under your screen. Maybe it works, maybe not.
But remember your "new" phone will have the other phone's IMEI what makes your insurance worthless for the future. Mobile phone insurances are usually bound to the IMEI.

Sony Xperia SP - Cyanogenmod 12.1
I think he has T-Mobile USA, that is the deductible in $ as part of their Jump! program.
Since I assume the water damage indicator would be tripped/red, T-Mobile wont give you a warranty exchange.... you have to pay deductible unless you go through Sony.
I went through warranty exchanges earlier without insurance and they obviously made it clear to check the water indicators before sending it in.
So best case if you are sure you did everything right, is to send it to Sony and save yourself an unnecessary fee.
First of all,
I'm sorry to hear this has occured upon your Xperia device, Unfortunately some Xperia Z3 Devices have a build defect in which water is passed through by the lanyard port if this was the case, Sadly your device is probably water damaged, However replacing the battery will give you no luck what so ever furthermore To retrieve your photos you would need the Device to boot up and as your Z3 is unable to proceed, You will not be able to unless they're saved on your SD Card (In which case you have one).
Reparing your device - You won't be able to find a quote from XDA, however i think it's in your best interest taking it to your Insurance group as Sony would decline repair under warranty due to the fact it's accidental damage (Unless you say there's a defect through the lanyard my research as shown, and it wasn't under water for more than 5 minutes)
The only other step i can think of is leaving your device with the flap open and putting it in a tub of Rice as Rice absorbs water this usually worked for my previous devices which were not waterproof,
All the best with your Device!
I'm still waiting for my water damaged device to be replaced by Sony, and it's been over 3 weeks since I've sent it in. They said they would replace it, but don't have any stock of the phone. It's the d6603 model btw.

Resetting a Z3 without screen functionality?going

Hi all,
Hoping a kind tech wiz will be able to help me out here, having had a Z3 for a couple of weeks I dropped it- back down - from a couple of feet and the front glass completely shattered leaving the screen unresponsive.
Having received a quote in the region of £200 I figure I may as well sell it for spares and buy a new device. However, for peace of mind, I'd like to wipe the phone completely before selling it on. Is this possible to do without being able to use the screen?
Thanks
Dan
There are several ways you can factory reset your phone with broken screen. The first one that comes to mind is with PC Companion repair option. Make sure your battery level is above 80%.
Follow this tutorial and you're all set.

I've tried this but I can't get very far because my phone had a pin lock on before it broke and the companion app doesn't work if the screen is locked. I know what the pin is but obviously can't input it, any other ideas that could help?
