I've had this phone for about 10 days now and I'm coming from a GSM Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 which I still love and adore. Having said that I've decided I'm keeping this phone because like with everything while not perfect, the benefits to it outweigh the downsides. Here's my take:
Things I love about One X:
- Screen is spectacular and best I've ever seen yet. Puts Nexus to shame. Hard going back to Nexus after using the One X
- Camera - best camera I've ever used on any mobile device yet. Not just optics but the software is fantastic. Love the burst mode/best shot, HDR actually does something, panaroma, etc. Especially coming from Nexus, it's a HUGE improvement
- LTE - yes it eats battery like nothing else but god damn it's fast and it's glorious. My first cell phone didn't have data and the first one with data had GPRS (not even EDGE) so the fact I can be standing somewhere and get 25mbps down is just mind boggling. Love it.
- CPU - the S4 is a beast, I have a PS Vita and an iPad3 so I don't need my phone to be a gaming powerhouse but this thing flies. Noticeably faster for me in many apps than the Nexus and web browsing is desktop class. I can even leave Flash to always on and I don't even notice! Definitely future proof for at least another year.
- Build quality - superb and feels very solid. NO creaking and it's light but does not feel cheap. Galaxy Nexus feels great too but still feels cheaper and flimsy compared to One X. I have the white one and it looks very very nice.
- Bluetooth 4.0 - had some problems on stock ROM (related to wifi I think) but with 1.82 it's very stable and works great. Future proofing for newer devices coming now with 4.0. I'm a big Bluetooth user so nice having the latest spec.
Things I really don't like about the One X:
- Sense 4.0 - yes it's better than previous ones (I had an Incredible and a Sensation) but it's still a piece of crap. Unnecessary UI animations and changes just for the fact they want to change things. YES there are nice little tweaks they've done but those are for me the ones under the hood and not really UI ones. The memory management/multitasking thing is a great example of one gone wrong but for me personally, I LOVE stock ICS and I can't wait for an unlocked bootloader so I can run a stock AOKP ROM on it.
- WiFi - although the 1.82 RUU seems to have fixed it somewhat, it's still flaky. I have to have "best wifi performance" checked otherwise notifications don't always come through when phone is asleep.
- Battery life - I guess I can't be too hard on it because of the screen, CPU and LTE but it still is quite unpredictable. It's NOT BAD but it's not great for me yet either. I'm sure I'll get it to a point where it'll be reliable but right now it seems all over the place.
- Power button - why in god's name do the morons at HTC stick the power/sleep button on the top of the phone when every other manufacturer has realized it's more logical to put it on the side. Especially on a 4.7" phone!! Idiots. This is annoying but I can live with it.
- Wide phone - the screen is only .5 " bigger than the Nexus but the phone is much wider in my hand and not as comfortable but not a deal breaker for me.
- AT&T Crapware - can be disabled but irritating they loaded it up with so much garbage.
- NO Google Wallet support - I MISS THIS the most from Nexus. I have a Citi card setup and used it a ton daily but now I can't
There is probably more but these are the highlights. So yes, the phone is far from perfect but I'm not getting rid of my Nexus so I will still have that. This phone has what I'm looking for which is the camera, screen, network and cpu that beats my current phone...so I'll look past the other stuff that bothers me - at least until I can flash stock ICS on it.

Just went back to my Nexus for a bit and I have to keep brightness at 50%. Anything less and the Nexus display hurts my eyes after spending time with the OneX. However software wise it feels so good.
Keeping the OneX but so so happy to have a Nexus I can take a break and go back to.

im actually starting to miss my gnex.
If i could get my boot loader unlocked and load a stock ics rom on it id change my mind.
Not a word about lack of multitasking? Really? IMO it's overweights every con you've listed all together...If just this not going to be fixed in next 20 days, I'm returning it.
And then only 10gb of space for all the apps to install and 8mp camera with 1080p video compatibility? And 600mb of user accessible RAM?
I think you got to get your priorities straight
Regarding the power button, I've owned 7 phones so far, different manufactures and all of them had power button on top. Doesn't bother me a single bit.
However the volume buttons placed on the opposite side of 3.5 jack is a bad design, because with this configuration you can't access them when the phone in the belt pouch. The 3.5 jack kind of forcing the pouch being on left side, making the buttons be at the bottom.

Its annoying but not a huge issue for me yet. I also plan on rooting soon and customizing. I believe part of the issue is the minfree setting which you should be able to edit with root. Also it can't be far off before custom ROMs based on AOSP will be out. Just waiting for the boot loader to be unlocked.

Have not experienced LTE yet, but I am on "4G" here in Utah. We will get LTE by the end of the year I guess.
The screen on this thing is down right beastly. Just amazing. Compared to my iPhone 4s, damn.
I don't mind the multitasking to be honest coming from an iPhone where I never used it. It suites me fine.
Camera isn't great, I don't believe as good as the iPhone 4s, but still one of the best I have seen so far.
So far battery life I get around 16 hours, not bad, but not great.
Phone quality is there as well. No complaints from me.
I guess the only downside so far for me is the google wallet. I was really wanting to use that when switching over to android. Hopefully it will happen via att or root at some point.

I can't see any trouble with the One X in anyway. Multitasking if your asking me.... I switch between 2 or 3 apps at the most. I don't do gaming with it. Mostly use it for processing capacity and some programing, emails, sms, whatsapp, im+, documents to go etc... I don't use any of the stock application and most of the stock/htc apps are disabled. I've installed what I needed to operate the phone and software. Space wise... geez I have plenty of space left 6GB left after loading nearly 120 mp3's on. As if anyone is going to go through that amount in just a few days... I swap my music every month or so and never seem to be a problem. I have e nearly 3000 pictures on top of that....
I'm really wondering if it's most just because people are whining then actually having issues... just because it doesn't fit their tiny little needs... Almost also seems like you want your hand held phone to replace your desktop/laptop PC... well unless they have better batteries in the future.
LTE is great don't get me wrong but unless I'm going to transfer a large file... it's disabled just because it kills the battery. With just 4G on I can get roughly 27hrs worth of juice. I'm quite happy with that.

I guess your the only one on here that doesn't have a multitasking issue. Congratulations on talking down on everyone who isn't satisfied with their device. I guess my "tiny little needs" don't matter.

If the way they do multitasking on this phone has any influence on the very strong battery life, then I can deal with it just fine.

Hey that's fine but they should give us the option under the development menu. I don't need my battery to last forever. I have an office with a phone charger. I'm not worried about getting 22+ hours of battery life.

More options = more confusion. You must remember, we are all like experts with android phones here on xda. Usually people are still learning how to answer a phone call on day 3 of their first smart phone, let alone an android. The wonderful part about android, and this site, is that you'll get custom roms with that option sooner rather than later. If HTC decided this was the way they wanted multitasking to improve battery life, they are going to stick with it. Being able to say the phone lasts longer than an iphone to a potential buyer is much more beneficial to sales to the common person then "it multitasks better."

I appreciate OP for bringing up such a post, as i feel that the HTC One X is really a great phone (its actually perfect for me!)
Unlike others, i never see most of the commonly faced problems on the forum while using my One X.
Here are the reasons i like the One X
1. SCREEN : No doubt the best screen ever.
2. BUILD Quality is superb and the design is sleek which i like. I dont ming the unibody design or the non-expandable memory/battery.
3. BATTERY : My phone gets me through a day with heavy use easily and by the time i charge it for the night i usually have 30% charge remaining, thats almost 16 hrs with moderate - heavy usage ( temple run, reddit, voice calls etc etc). Also i am in an area with LTE. I hardly notice the drain in battery bcoz of LTE. (my wifi and data are on all the time)
4. CAMERA : has tonnes of options and better than most cell phone cameras today.
MULTI-TASKING : i have never faced any issue with it. if i exit the game (using home button), then it resumes back at the same point. Likewise, for the other apps.
Wi-Fi : Again, i never faced any issues, i have always received the emails etc promptly (maybe not immediately, but the delay isnt significant enough for me to worry. Maybe 2-3 mins max)
SENSE : This is the only thing i dont like on my phone. would've loved a stock ICS experience.
In the end, am extremely happy with my phone, as i feel its a beautiful premium hardware.
Hi.
I need your help. I'm confused about that device because I read about his problems (For example: THE Sensitive button).
And about his poor battery life which can't survive for one full day..
And that I can get only 10GB of RAM, so I can't put much apps/movies/music/photos.
And I hope that it doesn't get too hot in heavy / easy use.
But I still like this model.
I'm wondering if I should buy this model or to buy Galaxy s2 / something else.
(I don't want big screen - 4.3 is enough for me P: )
- Do you recommend me to buy it or to buy something else?
- Please tell me everything you know about this model - the good and the bad
It's really important for me.

Battery life - User dependant. Also other factors can impact this such as signal strength, type of data used, screen brightness. Looking at the battery stats thread it seems fine, better than my HOX and that's saying something.
10GB of user space available. 4GB for system & 2GB for apps. Plenty for apps. You have 10gb available to you for music, movies, photos etc. For some this is enough for others not so much. But with the ability to sync items to cloud storage for most it shouldn't be an issue.
Heat - Can't comment, but from various reading it seems cooler than other devices.
Not got the device but comparing to let's say the SGS2 this seems to have a higher resolution screen despite having a pentile screen.
Audio - Read it has one of the cleanest outputs on a mobile device, not heard it personally but it should be fine.
CPU - The S4 is one of the best dual cores around, so much there is a shortage and pretty soon they will switch to the S3. So grab the S4 version whilst you still can. It's plenty fast and outbenches some of the quads out there.
Sense - HTC's overlay, you'll love it or hate it. I love it. Has good contact management, lovely widgets, good for social networking, and such but can be a memory hog.
Camera - HTC has done a good job on the camera front. Like my HOX I like the pictures that it takes and the burst mode is a blessing. The software is also good and easy to use.
LED - This has a notification light, albeit 2 colours only compared to some other devices but at least it has one.
To sum it up it's a good mid range device. And should serve you well. Not having the device myself I'm only giving you my thoughts from reading reviews and taking some parts of my HOX.

By the way, If I will buy the HTC SENSATION XE and install on it the android 4, it could be better then the HTC ONE S ? Because it has better battery, and I can use memory card.

I'd say think about longer term, it's an older device. The One S is the newer device and I'd be thinking about Jelly Bean the next android version. One S being newer would more likely be quicker to get it than the XE. It'll have more support from HTC.
Looking at the specs of both phones:
HOS is faster,
HOS reportedly has better battery life,
HOS has better screen in regards to viewing angles and sunlight compared to the first generation SLCD, again this could be subjective,
HOS is thinner and ligther,
HOS has the better camera,
HOS has native Sense 4 support,
HOS has 1gb of RAM compared to XEs 768MB,
You'll enjoy either but if you can I'd opt for the HOS if storage space isn't that important to you.

I have both the Sensation and One S and there is really no comparison, the One S is much better. I still like my Sensation but the One S is better looking and feeling, has better battery life and a nicer screen, and is much faster.
I haven't had any of the problems that people have reported here (sensitive button, poor reception etc.). Battery life has been good for me so far, and while it does warm up when you're using it heavily it's not "hot" by any means.
The lack of SD slot is not really a problem for me, but whether you can live with it depends on your usage. I've never used more than 4GB of SD card on my Sensation, so the 10GB on board is more than enough.
The only problems I would be concerned about are:
1) Chipping on the black version. I honestly think it's overblown (like most issues with all phones, only people who have problems speak up), but if you are really worried about it get the silver one. It looks even better IMO and it won't chip as the finishing process is different.
2) Getting the 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 version instead of the 1.5GHz S4. The S3 is the previous generation chip, used in the Sensation, and is slower (despite the higher clock speed, the architecture is different) and uses more power. I don't know if there's a way to tell what you're going to get beforehand, though. Only thing I can think of is if you see "1.7GHz" anywhere on or near it, stay away.
Read my one S review (and all the other posts by me in that thread as well, as I have updated some stuff like wifi speeds and battery life, last update was today, so the last post will be useful for you) in sig and also read my post here addressing your issues/questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27056580&postcount=7
As for the heat, only gets hot when you're charging it, but this is the same for every device, in use for games etc. mine is pretty cold to touch
There is also a video in my last post in the neowin review thread showing a thermal output test comparison between the GS 2, Razr and the S.

As for the heat, only gets hot when you're charging it, but this is the same for every device, in use for games etc. mine is pretty cold to touch

Speaker for the HOX is fine, not as loud as say the SGS3 but it's consistent where as the SGS3 can be distorted on higher volumes. I prefer the ringtone sounds out of the HOX than SGS3.

Speaker is great, better than the GS 2 all round.
Here is what GSMarena had to say about the audio:
The cleanest audio output we have seen
The HTC One S performance in our audio quality test came as a really pleasant surprise to us. It appears that the Beats influence hasn't been limited to a single equalizer preset this time as the smartphone delivers the cleanest output we have seen from any device so far.
When connected to an active external amplifier, the HTC One S audio is simply flawless - volume levels are a little above average and it got excellent scores on every part of our test.
What's most impressive though is the One S retains virtually the same performance when you plug in a pair of headphones. The stereo crosstalk takes the tiniest dip of any smartphone we've seen so far, while the rest of the readings are either totally unaffected or worsen by an undetectable amount. Volume levels remain the same too, so it's arguably the most impressive overall performance to date.

Very good! Call quality is great for me.
Loud (can adjust the volume) and clean.
You have dual mics, so any background noise is blocked out Obviously extreme noise like cars racing right beside you and loud music might not be completely blocked out and besides you won't be able to make the other person out anyway

That's nice, and now I really want it XDDDDD
I've just upgraded to this phone from the Desire S. I was thinking about getting the One X or the S3 too but I want a high end mobile phone not a mini tablet. This phone is amazing coming from a rooted desire S, its so fast and smooth I don't plan on rooting it.
My advise is to simply get this phone.

Are you asking me or someone else?
1) The battery life on this phone sucks. Expect to be getting no more than 4 hours of usage on average. The iphone 4/4s gets a solid 6 hours of usage. Thats 150% more battery life and I don't need to fiddle with the settings at all to achieve this.
2) The hardware has major design flaws. First of all the black one has that chipping problem with the paint. Well I have used my phone for less than 2 months and it looks butchered as hell. People complain about the iphone 4/4s, well I dropped a gazillion times and it still looked almost brand new when I sold it. I dropped the 1S one time! and the paint already came off. The front camera is recessed and gathers dust like crazy. It's impossible to clean it because its recessed and the dust has no where to go. Crap and dust also builds up near the top plastic cap. The speakers are also located exactly on the back of the phone. So if you put your phone on your table, you can't hear it ringing. Not only that the volume is so low. I missed tons of calls.
3) The community for this phone sucks. There is barely any activity on the fora and development for custom roms is stagnating. I mean sense is crap and there is only like 1 guy working on cm9? And correct me if I am wrong but the last version of AOKP is like from 3 weeks ago with tons of bugs. Now look at the Galaxy Nexus or the 1X fora. Or look at the SGS3 fora and that phone has not even been completely released yet. Its crazy. And this is worrying cause even sense has tons of bugs. There is for example this 3g/H switching that still hasn't been fixed as far as I know.
4) Then there is this low resolution pentile screen. Well its definitely ok and you shouldn't worry about it. But you WILL notice a huge difference if you put it next to the nexus, 1X or the iphone 4/4s and you will run in to all kinds of trouble with apps. For example while my own 720p videos looks good on this phone, youtube videos will look crap no matter how high you put the settings. There are tons of these annoying things. The screen is the reason why its not quite yet a flagship device while it could have been.
That being said I think its the best android phone on the market. Its the fastest android phone on the market. It doesn't have a cheap flimsy plastic body and it has a thin and light design. Aluminum feels really good on the hand especially when its cold. Its like 100 dollars/euro cheaper than the 1X and SGS3. I'd wait for the iphone 5 though. And if that turns out to be nothing or if the wait is too long then go ahead and purchase the 1S cause thats what I recommend out of the top3 android phones.

Once again, all of that is in YOUR opinion and from your usage only as well, plenty of people including me have had the exact opposite to you. Just because you experience problems doesn't mean that every one else will....
1. Is that on screen time your talking about? If so that is very good! (depending on usage and screen brightness) No other android phone gets anywhere near that unless the screens are set to like 0% and airplane mode enabled for a bit. Just look at my review and you will see the usage that I am getting from a single charge, now go and find me an android phone on stock ROM with a stock battery that can beat that (apart from the motorola razzr for obvious reasons). The iphone 4/4s also seem to have a problem with battery life for quite a few people, heck apple have even released a number of updates iirc to try and fix the battery drain
Plus don't forget that the iphone 4/4s doesn't have the same amount to do as an android phone.
2. The MAO issue is not a "hardware" problem, but a design fault.... Also I have had my phone since release day and still have no signs of chipping anywhere apart from inside the USB port plus HTC have addressed this now as they have got a design, which has a bevelled USB and less sharper edges. Well you were extremely lucky with your 4s then as due to the build of it and being mostly glass, the screen is almost always guaranteed to shatter when dropped......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elKxgsrJFhw
It all depends on where abouts the ground impacts the mobile, you could be lucky or not so lucky with any device. If you want to be safe than sorry then a case is a necessary item for all mobiles, even the GS 2. Some devices are just more durable than others.
I have had no problems with dust getting under my screen, had my mobile since April, yes dust does gather in the front camera part, however, a quick blow and wipe with a pencil in a cloth sorts that problem out.
Emmmm what? The volume is amplified a wee bit when it is placed on the desk due to that reason, you can raise the volume as well you know or use a louder ring tone, you must be pretty deaf if you can't hear your mobile ringing......
3. The community isn't great, but it is starting to pick up now especially since the kernel source was posted, there are a few good ROMs from what I have read such as trickdroid and leedroid. Sense is crap in your opinion, many people including me love it and I for one won't be changing to a stock ICS ROM as I don't want to loose the features of sense, which IMO are better than the alternatives. The gallery, dialer, calendar, clock app are superb and not to mention the sense camera along with all the features, which you won't find on any other mobile or stock ICS ROM. Of course the galaxy nexus is going to have a damn good developing community, it's only the official/stock android phone that all the developers use to develop apps for and was the first phone to have a 720P display. The developing community here will never be as good as the the 1X or GS 3 community as they are the "flagship" devices and the phones that everyone will go for just for because of that "term"
Also the tegra chipset is apparently proving to be hard to work with for the developers with the 1X due to nvidia lack of support.
What are these bugs you speak off? I haven't had any problems with mine, super stable, super quick and smooth, multi-tasking is fine as I have disabled a lot of sense stuff and apps that I don't need and am using apex etc. instead.
If you look at my other post addressing issues you will see that I don't have the 3G/H bug, along with many other people.
The iphone is well known to have signal issues as well, not remember the 4 or 4s release where people were complaining about terrible signal, and apple said essentially "you're holding the phone the wrong way" and had to give out free bumper cases to solve the issue as it was a problem with the new antenna that they were using......
4. There is no problem with the screen, sure it ain't 720P and doesn't use RGB matrix, but it is perfectly good and better than most other mobiles screens apart from the ones you mentioned along with a couple of SE mobiles. The screen is nice and sharp still, the only areas I notice the pentile matrix is with white text on black backgrounds and some icons and even still I have to put my eyes right up to the screen. Plus the reason HTC went with with the pentile version is because the battery life is better with it than the RGB version (same reason Samsung went with pentile on the GS 3 instead of RGB). What kind of trouble have you run into with all these apps that you speak of because of the screen? What on earth are you talking about again??? Youtube videos will look crap no matter what settings you put them on??? The youtube videos look great.
Seriously, it sounds to me like you have a faulty one s if that is truly what you are experiencing.......
And after all that you still think the 1S is the best android device there is

Hello! first of all I know there is tons of threads and articles about HOX vs GS3, I'm not here to debate which one is the best phone ever I know they are both awesome I just need help to know which one is the best for me and you can help me by giving me your personal opinion on what will follow.
I made this thread because while I think I'd be really happy with either GS3 or One X I'm not throwing 600-700$ away before I'm sure which to choose and I wont regret my purchase or be thinking "I should have bought the other one", I'll keep this phone for at least 2 years and I wanna know which fits the best for me (and my needs).
Please don't come here to comment: "Samsung suck" or "HTC suck" "look at benchmarks" or other stupid trolling comments like that, if you need to say the main concurrent of your phone sucks to convince yourself your phone is good, I think you have a problem.
Now I'll just tell how what kind of phone I'll need, I'll be using it mainly for web browsing over 3G, I'll also use it to watch animes (with subs), youtube videos and maybe streams, MP3 and games (probably more emulators than crappy gameloft games with a bluetooth gamepad because I just hate to play games with virtual buttons on screen...), I need decent battery life (ideally 5-6h on screen time for web browsing watching video and some gaming)
Now I need your opinion on the pros and cons list I made for both devices (some of them are personal I'm not saying sense is better than touchwiz I'm just saying I prefer it, as for the design it's my personal opinion):
(if you see "(?)" it means I'm not sure about that (like something I read on forums but with no source, could be true but not sure about it))
Please give your opinion about the phone you own not about what you heard or read somewhere (I'm talking about people *****ing about the other phone while they haven't even tested it), I want honest feedback, if you own or owned both phones I'd like to know why you kept one instead of the other
I'll post this on both forums (HTC and Samsung) to see feedback from both GS3 and One X users.
HTC one X:
Pros:
-Design
-Sense 4.0 (really love the UI of sense)
-Screen
-Perfs
-HTC updates frequently (?)
-Battery life idle
-Text adapting in web browser when zooming in
-Playstation mobile (?)
-Tegra games (?)
Cons:
-Not optimized (Tegra3 driver still running on gingerbread kernel not ICS, sense using a lot of ram and sometimes laggy (?) may change with updates)
-Multitasking (refresh everytime you switch from an app to another, really annoying when in the middle of a webpage or a youtube video but fixable with script and custom roms)
-Heats a lot when gaming
-1080p recording @ 20ish FPS (fixable with updates?)
-Hard to root (and voids warranty...)
-No USB OTG (yet, may come with updates)
-No S-OFF (yet)
Neutral:
-Battery life (may get better with updates can also get better with custom roms / kernels and tweaking)
-Sense laggy sometimes (?)
-Audio
-No SD card
-Cannot replace battery (in case the battery dies you just have to buy another one?...)
Hopes:
-Nvidia to release soon the ICS kernel update for Tegra3 that should boost perfs and also gives the One X better battery life
-OTG USB update cause since One X don't have micro SD support with this update the phone would support USB flashdrives etc... So a must in my opinion
-Update to fix sense glitch and general performance to use less ram etc...
-S-OFF
Fears:
-I'v read something about HTC not doing really well lately, I'm afraid this could affect updates for the One X
-I'm also afraid that as soon as they release a new phone they just drop the one X
-Also about the Tegra3 drivers for ICS kernel Nvidia could release it in a month as they could release it in a year... Also people are saying it will improve the perfs and the battery life but maybe it will change nothing...
Samsung GS3:
Pros:
-Perfs
-Multitasking
-Battery life
-Audio
-Already optimized
-Doesn't heat even when gaming (?)
-SD card
-OTG USB
-Will have a bigger community, more roms etc... (?)
-Easy to root
-1080p recording @ 30 FPS
-Better blacks (screen)
-You can replace the battery
Cons:
-Touchwiz
-Slow and rare Samsung updates (?)
-Battery life idle
Neutral:
-Design
-Screen
-Saturated colors (screen)
-S-voice and others "features" are nothing but gimmicks
Hopes:
-Sense 4.0 being ported to GS3 (without multitasking issues and optimised)
-I hope Samsung will do frequent updates for the device to fix bugs and keep the phone updated.
Fears:
-One of my bigest fear is HTC to fix the One X right after I buy the GS3...
-As for the One X I fear Samsung to not update the phone or drop it as soon as they release a new device...
Thanks for your time and sorry for my english.
In my personal opinion, based on your needs, the One X should be fine for the most part. The biggest concern will be the screen on time. I personally have only managed 4ish hours screen on time.
But the way I worked around it is with an external battery pack which I just use to top up when I'm not using the phone (or even when I am).
Sounds as if you have already made your mind up you just don't know it yet by the looks of your post, go with Samsung!
Sent from my HTC One X
Very nice opening of a thread but I think it's irrelevant.
People here have a HTC One X because it's HTC One X General section.
So how can you have a clear opinion from people with a HTC One X who don't have the other device you mention?
Maybe you better post this question in the general section of XDA?
As this is HTC One X section and has nothing todo with that other machine.
Besides that, soooooo... many tried to open a thread like this before you and all these threads end up in a fight.
So my advise is, if you like to know about opinions of both phones read about both phones in several forums but I think it's not very smart to open an anoying thread like this.
Btw, that's my opinion.
The only way you'll ever know is if you try both yourself. Buy sim-free devices from a reputable company with a good return policy and have fun making up your mind
From what i read, you need the s3 cuz you want many screen on time. You can bring extra battery and pop it in.
From what i think, you are right bout updates. Samsung tend to leave their prev flagships phone with late updates and when they do, half finished work that needs lots of updates to fix it. HTC updates them, but tries as perfectly as possible. N HTC has longer software update support too.
Sent from my HTC One X
My personal opinion is that I think the HTC One X is a better device overall than the SGS3, but obviously its very close and both have pros and cons. Obviously most people in this forum will prefer the One X. And I've been a Samsung owner for my last two phones (SGS, Infuse), and was anxiously awaiting the SGS3 announcement thinking I was going to get one. It was announced, I wasn't that impressed, I got the HTC One X instead (cheaper too, at least off contract) and I'm happy that I did.
One thing to note though, I see you put TouchWiz on the cons for SGS3, but I'd probably say TouchWiz on the SGS3 is better than Sense 4. Sense 4 is nice, and I have no problem with it, but I've been running SGS3 builds on my Infuse and I like it more.
The SGS3 is definitely more friendly for custom ROMs being that it's bootloader is already unlocked, however, I don't doubt the development community's ability to do just fine with the HOX. If it was a smaller phone, that would be one thing, but this is an international flagship. There are a lot of people working on it, just like the SGS3. I'm not too worried about customization abilities.
But hey, go find them both, hold them both, and try using them both. Just pick what you like more. Some things are more important to one person than another.
Not sure if firmware upgrades will make htc's one x battery to last longer, unless that somehow increases the number of cells or the capacity of the battery.
As for one x pros, people always forget one of the newest improvements it has camera-wise: you can take pictures while recording video. Not sure if the gs3 has the "selective burst mode" that the one x has.
For me, putting back touch wiz and buttons was a step back for the gs3. A step forward was putting a bigger battery.
If speed is what you want, why not go for the one s?

And about battery live, I think besides updates on the OS you can improve the performance with a radio for your area as well. About the other things, a bad choise of apps can drain your battery really fast as well so I'm sure if HTC updates the Core or improves applications it can improve battery. Not that battery is so bad with HTC One X, I'm pretty satisfied, but you can't compair the device with a single or dual core I think, that's not fair to my opinion. To my opinion HTC One X has a much better design as the Samsung Galaxy SIII, much more elegant and stylish. Not such a flat squared boring design as the SIII. And about the service of HTC, to my opinion it rocks as well, in all the 8 years I use HTC devices I had only once a issue with a device, they picked up and returned it fixed in 3 days.
I think this is all important to the Op to my opinion as he has to make a decission.

I must agree with Leo, one thing has made me in love with HTC is it´s superior design and build quality over any other existent brand, so even if GSIII had better specs I rather took One X
S3..!!!!!!!
Looking at the rapid growth of the android phones and the huge success of Samsung over their Galaxy series and also a large number of custom roms available and firmware updates too, I would tell samsung galaxy S3 is the one and the best till date..

Mhm, personally people have their own opinions depends what you would want to keep.
Sg3 battery life is great with a battery that it has already! As far as updates from Samsung, they seem to roll out updates about biweekly.
Haven't yet tried a game that it could not handle.

I was waiting to upgrade to Galaxy S3 on Tmobile from Vibrant. But they shocked me with the price ($280 after MIR, when One S is available at retailers for $180) and also I didnt like they removed FM tuner and Wolfenson dac from all US variants. I am looking towards One S now and would appreciate if you guys can answer some questions. I am familiar with flashing roms so if some of these are addressed by custom roms let me know guys
1) Does One S suffer from insuffcient ram issues like browser reloading pages when app swichting, launcher suspended from memory etc
2) Hows is the battery life for normal use (autosync on for gmail, FB etc and moderate use like browsing, few txts and calls).
3) Does GPS perform well for location based services and navigation
4) Are there signal strength issues, drpped calls etc when there is sufficint network
5) Is there FM tuner on Tmobile version and does it work with any headphones
6) Are there issues with MHL video out interms of resolution, refresh rate etc when hooking up with HDTVs and how is surround sound working
Thanks in advance!!
1. No
2. 2 days for me
3. Yes
4. No
5. Yes, never tried it
6. Never tried it
1. No, there is about 250MB free on stock from what I remember. The larger issue is HTC's changes to multitasking. I question whether the 1GB of RAM would be enough 2 years from now though.
2. Easily 1 full day of moderate usage.
3. Yes
4. No, not really. It seems to have better coverage than some of the other phones you can buy from TMO. I dropped a call while using WiFi calling (the whole network connection dropped out), but I don't think it is a phone issue. I think TMO needs to work on their WiFi calling software.
5. Yes, 2 or 3 of them... sigh
6. idk

I had it for all of 2 weeks, couldn't hack the super low storage space, non removable battery, pentile screen......and that god awful VGA. What a joke. Processor is top notch and the back is sexy, but over all it seems like Sensation 3.0 (2.0 was the Amaze fyi). After having 4.5" of samoled plus expandable storage and removable battery I immediately went back to Sammy. Got myself a Note and haven't regretted it. The GS3 is my next phone for sure when the price gouging goes down.

Good for you KillaHurtz, enjoy your note and your new GS 3 when you get it and have lots of fun with the superior front camera, most important feature right there!
Us HTC one S owners will enjoy our superior processor (for performance per core, better power efficiency and far less heat produced), superior build and perceived quality, not to mention looks and design.......... superior android skin, superior main camera for photos and features in the camera and gallery etc. and better battery life etc.
In anandtechs review of the USA version of the GS 3, which has the S4, the one S and the XL whips its ass in the majority of benchmarks!

1. I have disabled a ton of apps, which are not necessary and have no problems with multi-tasking, however, when switching from a game or some demanding app back to the browser, tabs do reload
2. There are plenty of threads on battery life here and plenty of screenshots of my usage for my review of the 1S (link in sig) and throughout that thread, to sum it up, amazing the best there is
3. Very well, GPS locks on very quick for me (UK, N.I.), never properly used navigation but it does seem to work fine when I have quickly tried it out, if you aren't satisfied you can get tom tom or some other navigation app
4. As shown in that post above of mine linked by big_den, none whatsoever
5. Can't comment on t-mobile version but the international version we have a FM radio and it only works when headphones are plugged in
6. You can see my mini review of a standard generic MHL adapter below. It appears though that the refresh rate is a bug, as it only has a 24Hz refresh rate, however, a guy here modded a kernel so that the resolution is dropped to 720P and 60Hz refresh rate iirc.
Basically you go for the GS 3 if you want this stuff:
- better and bigger screen
- more storage
- NFC
- better community for custom ROMs etc.
- much better 1080P recording
Go for the one S if you want this stuff:
- far better out of the box experience, sense is much nicer to use and has great apps e.g. the dialer, gallery, calendar, camera etc. which can't be matched by 3rd party apps
- better battery life
- far better looks/design and build/perceived quality
- better camera for photos and features overall
In the real world, performance is more or less the same really.
EDIT:
Just realised you were talking about the USA versions, in that case the GPU and CPU is the same as the S, adreno 225 and S4
However, as I mentioned above the S whips the GS 3 that has the S4 etc. in the majority of stuff, so sense appears to be far better optimized than touchwiz regarding that.

All US GS3 versions use the S4 MSM8960 which has the same GPU as the One S has (Adreno 225). In fact, graphics performance should be better on the One S as it's driving a smaller screen.
And to answer the OP:
1) Not really. Browser does reload from time to time but I've never had Sense reloads like I did on the Sensation.
2) Good in my experience - should be at least a day if not more.
3) Yes.
4) Not in my experience.
5) Yes. Worked with my usual headphones as well as old iPod ones.
6) Never tried it.
Yeah, I just noticed that he meant the USA versions and always keep forgetting about these mobiles having different hardware in different parts of the world
And yup, the one S (even the XL, which has the same res.) whips the GS 3 s4 version.......
http://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index...axy-s-iii-review-att-and-tmobile-usa-variants
So just shows that sense must be better optimized than touchwiz overall here.

Well I also pointed out the pentile display which is gross, and the signal issue which there is tons of threads about. The One S and GS3 are similar to how the Sensation & GS2 T989 were related. Same processor, but the Sensation suffered from signal issues, lag and a poor FFC. Sense, whether you like it or not takes a lot of resources. FACT. The GS2 with the same exact processor performed leaps and bounds better and I have no doubt the GS3 is the same way this time around. I have owned all said devices, so this is not speculation or some bloggers paid opinion. The fact that you said US HTC One S users will have a superior processor.......umm how if it's the exact same one within the GS3?, 2gb of RAM sounds superior to me. Multitasking is a pain on the One S (one again, I have owned it) it can't even switch back to a webpage without having to reload. The One S may perform marginally better on an outdated & pixelated screen with crippled expansion abilities. Take that to the bank fanboys. Fail harder next time please
It all comes down to preference.
HTC always makes gorgeous exteriors that usually cause signal issues & they take forever to release source (Has is been yet?) Better build quality sure, but at the cost of performance?
Sense is super intensive on RAM and CPU and runs super deep into the android framework.
Samsung makes lighter, usually polycarbonate bodies to reduce weight and make them easier to replace. Signal has never been an issue with me on a Galaxy phone because of this design. Samsung released source code for the GS3 before the phone was officially released. CYANOGEN himself works for Samsung into helping them make the most cutting edge, efficient, and powerful coding for software.
I also have used the face camera unlock and have had no problems with it whatsoever Doesn't work in pitch black obviously but every time I unlock the device, the screen is also unlocked straight away. Take the ugly mask off
In your opinion the display is gross, not my opinion and same for many others, have shown everyone of my friends and family the display and they have been very impressed with it, one of the first things that they comment on.
Again, just because there are ton of threads where people are stating an issue doesn't mean that it applies to everyone.......... Many people only voice there opinions when something goes wrong and never any positives. And we only make up a very small % of owners for the S on this forum.
Again, you seem to be ignoring the screenshots in my post that I addressed these issues again, no problems with resources regarding RAM etc. as I have shown with the task manager. And if it really was hogging resources then please explain why the battery life is so great (for the S and XL) and outmatches the GS 3 S4 version despite the GS 3 having the bigger battery?????? So it musn't be FACT
Again what a strange observation you make, because I have had the GS 2 on stock ICS right beside my stock S and the performance was far better in everything, everything was just more instant and even my friend who owns the GS 2 said the exact same and the majority of people who have upgraded from the GS 2 to the S.
go and try loading a page full of gifs and see what comes out on top between the S, GS 2 and note.
Wrong again, people who have the S and GS 3 have said that both are just the same overall, the GS 3 is slightly smoother but in terms of raw speed, more or less the same. I also have had the 2 side by side and they are the same pretty much, GS 3 smoother but not by much.
Likewise! (not owned but plenty of time with the top end devices) and also these opinions are coming from other forums and these guys have owned every device there is and to just show good the S is, this one guy usually upgrades his mobile to the latest and greatest and sells the old one to fund it, but guess what, he didn't, he kept both the S and GS 3 because he loves the S sooo much as well, he didn't want to get rid of it and the only reason he is sticking with the GS 3 is due to storage, shocker!
Hmm, you obviously didn't read the post properly? Either that or you are a bit dumb and can't read I was talking about your note as well.........
And once again, in the benchmarks according to anandtech the one S is far superior to the GS 3 S4 version. "Sense not as well optimized and hogs resources"...........lol
Tell me where 2GB of RAM will be useful?
Sir, I think everyone knows who has failed here particularly after this, "The One S is ****e m8" and it most certainly isn't me or anyone else in this thread, but YOU, so back to the note/GS 3 threads where you belong
And the only one who is a fanboy here, is you
I wonder why all the review sites particularly gsmarena who are quite harsh on everything apart from the flagship devices spoke so highly of the S
Again, signal issues........I have no problems, but you seem to have ignored my post with screenshots showing that as usual
Yes the kernel source has been released for quite a while now.
You obviously didn't look at the anandtechs review as usual
Again, you obviously haven't seen my battery life screenshots and anandtechs review, if something is so intrusive and resource hungry then why does it perform better, why does it get better battery life?
LOL you have failed once again, the one S is lighter by a fair bit compared to the GS 3 and thinner hahahaha
Also polycarbonate bodies............emmmm they use cheap ass glossy plastic which makes the phone look like a cheap fisher price toy, the X/XL uses polycarbonate body.
Again no issues with signal here for me.
What a surprise the community is better than the one S.........I couldn't give a rats ass about the kernel source or ROMs etc. as I have no intentions of rooting the one S or flashing a custom ROM because it is PERFECT for ME.
EDIT:
"toothless bloke" bahahahahaha, are you like 12 or something?
And it is quite clear that you are the noob!
Terminator19, you said what most people on this forum think, but in the most eloquent way. At the end of the day, this guy bought the S and had a bad experience. Even though thousands users and people in the industry disagree. Good that he likes his Note and all the best for his GS3.

You keep comparing the One S to phones that carry the S3 processor, why ?
And the only one who is a fanboy here, is you
I'm an Android Fanboy, you got me there. I had had all HTC devices until the GS2 T989 (so from 2008 to October 2011)
Again, signal issues........I have no problems, but you seem to have ignored my post with screenshots showing that as usual
I think it's great when people don't experience those issues that plague a device.
Yes the kernel source has been released for quite a while now.
Great the device has been out and devs were flatout pissed about HTCs GPL compliance
Again, you obviously haven't seen my battery life screenshots and anandtechs review, if something is so intrusive and resource hungry then why does it perform better, why does it get better battery life?
Once again this is relative and I never mentioned battery life as a factor. When I had my One S I wasn't impressed compared to my T989. Yes the One S should get better battery life as the processor is optimized for it
LOL you have failed once again, the one S is lighter by a fair bit compared to the GS 3 and thinner hahahaha
Never said the GS3 was lighter or thinner m8

You also mentioned the One S can load a pageful of .gifs faster than a Note or GS2, big surprise there bro. That's like comparing a Mustang to a Ferrari, of course the One S beats those at a totally useless test. You are comparing last years technology to one that is cutting edge. Of course the benchmarks are gonna be higher for the One S, it's running a smaller & lower rez screen. If were to run the same hardware on a 2" screen I would dust the One S by double. Kudos on the astonishing, non pertinent info which showcases your lack of how technology actually works. Kudos.

Yeah, I usually don't post too much "defending" the phone especially "attacking" other phones etc. but it is getting tiring and irritating seeing the same posts by the same couple of people (think we all know who the other one is ) who keep posting the same xxxx in every thread where someone asks about the one S vs xxx or the pros and cons etc. and thinking that it applies to every single S there is and therefore the mobile is **** etc. etc.
Indeed, I have no problems with him liking a different mobile etc. just don't see the point of trashing the phone in it's own sub-forum when he had a bad experience.

I'm not trashing anything dude, these are simple facts that people may be overlooking. Someone asked a legitimate question and I am answering it with real world experience. I loved the One S to be honest, great camera, great form factory and benches that would make the android horsepower gurus drool.
Believe me I was sold, I actually bought it I liked it so much. I'm only providing a balanced view of things, and while my attitude may seem crude, the facts are not. This is a forum where people who sometimes have no insight of these products look to users/owners for advice. I am trying to provide that from an actual, non biased place. Sorry if it seems otherwise, sincerely.
I gave up my One S because it didn't seem like much of an upgrade. I am one of the dudes that has his phone filled with .FLACs, and full movies for my 3 year old daughter. I am what I would consider a power user and most times need an extra battery to get me thru the day. I hate being plugged in and hate streaming from a cloud because most of the time it reduces the quality of music, which defeats my extensive .FLAC library. That, and the fact that I travel to places in my state where coverage isn't so great. Was it a bad experience, no. I love HTC, this particular device I had to let go because it didn't fit my lifestyle, that's it.
I am not just comparing the phone to the phones that have the S3 chip.......I am comparing it to every other phone there is and the S4 is superior to every CPU even the quad in the GS 3 and X, not just for raw speed per core but also heat and power efficiency as well.
No you didn't but you keep saying about sense being a huge resource hog, however, how can it be if the one S and XL get great battery life if RAM and CPU is being hogged? Just like an app, which doesn't close when required and will hog resources and drain battery life. Granted the S4 helps a lot but even still if resources are being hogged then the battery life wouldn't be as good, also if sense was such a huge hog then the battery life would be nowhere as good and the one S is better than the GS 3 S4 version for battery life, and you said that touchwiz is far lighter and better optimized than sense, once again why would the battery life be worse on the GS 3 and better on the S etc.? (and yes I know the screen is bigger and higher res. on the GS 3 but the bigger battery makes up for that and the XL is still better anyway.
Also the hardware is crap/pointless if the software/drivers aren't optimized for it.
You said lighter
"Samsung makes lighter, usually polycarbonate bodies to reduce weight and make them easier to replace."
Yes it is polycarbonate, however, they ruin the true feel/look of it by having that hyperglaze/glossy finish to it.
This site isn't solely for discussion of ROM's, tweaks etc. but also discussion of apps, general stuff like accessories and useful info. on certain stuff.
Well, yes I used that comparison because you said this:
"The GS2 with the same exact processor performed leaps and bounds better"
Not really a useless test, well for me anyway, as I am a heavy web browser and a random gif thread is one of the many threads that I visit daily, so would like them to be smooth rather than a slideshow.
I didn't compare just the S and GS 3, but also the XL, which does have the same res. as the GS 3.
Again, I think you will find that everything is connected and thus all of my post has perfectly suited your points. It isn't just a simple oh processor better therefore that is better etc.
Right you go and say that in your last post and then you say this at the beginning of the thread:
"The One S is ****e m8, you get what you pay for. One S has a VGA front facing camera dude, that should say it all."
Also I am not bias to the S at all, I have stated that there are faults/weak areas many times and in my review of the S as well:
Cons:
No NFC
No SD card slot and limited internal storage
Non-removable battery
Uses a pentile matrix instead of RGB
Notification LED isn't great
However, most of those things don't bother me too much, if at all now, the only thing that really bothers me is the NLED.
EDIT:
Not only that but if you are wanting to give people advice on the S since you have owned it, then why didn't you answer the OP questions instead of just saying that one line, which isn't true as you just stated in your last post there pretty much and he didn't ask about the front camera at all.
EDIT 2:
Also considering you stated there that you put flacs and films etc. on your mobiles, surely you should have known that was going to be an issue with the S in the first place then???

1. Yes. It's a major issue with One X as well. I usually do a lot of browsing and have at least 3 tabs open and every time I switch to any other app (eg. Messaging) and go back to browser, it just reloads. This is ridiculous because sometimes I am typing something on the webpage before switching and I lose everything. Even xda app reloads after switching to messaging. I am thinking of getting GSIII because of this issue. I know I can root and get a custom Rom to make this work but again this is an expensive phone and such a trivial feature of android should work out of the box!
2. 1 day with gmail, 2 other personal emails, gvoice and a lot of browsing.
3. Yes

1. I suffer from Wifi error after a system upgrade and now auto-reset after replacing a new one from Costco. But other things work pretty fine
2.less than 1 day
3.Yes, work quite well. But it eats a lot of battery
4.Sometimes drop calls. Also there are some 4G signal issues while using it indoor. But not as worst as Sensation 4G
5. Yes, there are FM tuner.
6. MHL work quite fine. I tested it on a 24" no-speaker-moniter. So don't know how it sounds like.
I suggest that you should wait for a GSIII instead, it will be a lot more better than One S. Replacable battery, upgradable memory(support up to 64 GB micro-SD card) , large battery(that's 2100mAh Vs. 1650mAh HTC One S), and also 2GB of ram(that's HTC One S 's double!!). But it will use Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor instead of quad-core, which means same as HTC One S. The only good thing about HTC One S is good camera, the brilliant HTC Sense 4.0, beats audio, extremly thin and light weight.
PS: If my One S suffer from annoying auto-restarting, can I just return the phone to Costco and grab a GS III??
One S is the best bang for your buck right now in the US. Although i wonder if we are gonna get 4.1 quickly since it looks like a minor upgrade.
Hey guys,
I am about to upgrade my phone from an s3 and am having to choose between the m8, z2 and g3.
I want a phone that will give me a long lasting experience (won't start lagging in a 6 months), good battery life (6-7 hours screen time on one charge, if possible), decent camera, and good audio through headphones. I don't mind putting on a battery case in the future if I need to but would rather avoid it.
To me the m8 is the most attractive phone out of the bunch but its specs are a little behind, relatively. Also, I am not so sure about its battery life and, due to its shape, a battery case would make it less attractive than a z2 with battery case. The biggest plus for the m8 is the feeling that the phone will continue to perform optimally for a good while after the purchase date. Should I go with my gut feeling?
The z2 is a powerhouse of specs. However, the user reviews just don't seem to be on par with the m8. I have read issues with lag and heating. On paper, it seems like an easy pick. Is the reality different?
The g3 is blowing people away but I have read that the screen is a battery drainer. That is still bearable but the occurrence of heating issues is the scary part. I am afraid of getting a phone that is amazing for the first month or two but can't last. Is the praise simply hype that will die out soon or is it a sturdy phone?
What do you guys suggest?
Please no fanboy wars. Just your objective suggestions would be much appreciated. I plan to make the decision by tomorrow.

It seems like the z2 & g3 would be your go-to's here. If the only issue with the g3 for you is possible battery drain, it seems like the best bet. Besides, you can just adjust the brightness as you see fit.
There are already threads for this sort of question, I'm sure @Naddict can point you in the right direction.
